Which is the best 15 Inch Macbook Pro choice for me?

So I am a currently attending college and studying at the moment CIM (Computer Information Management). I work a lot on my computer either on school work, personal projects, and some minor freelance work. I use a lot of Adobe CS4 software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, Flash and Dreamweaver. But I am going to want to get into studying more 3D software products as well. Such as Z-Brush, Maya and what ever 3D software is the best and easiest to use. I can look into that later. But here is the deal. I know what ever choice I make, regarding any MacBook product. It's an upgrade from the laptop I am currently using. I am not dying for the need of a new computer. But with the study and field I want to get into. I definitely need it pretty soon. So my help/question in request is:
Which Macbook Pro (15in/ if 13in will hit it right on the mark of requirements) I should get.
Alright so I am currently running this:
Windows 7
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU T2390 @ 1.86GHz 1.87GHz
Installed memory (RAM): 3.00GB
System Type: 32-bit Operating System
I do have some what of a total budget. Which is: 2,450. That is the Online cost for the Macbook Pro 15in - 2.66GHz Intel Core i7 w/ the Apple are protection plan. (Student discount applied)
That leaves a huge hit on my wallet for a bit. So 2,000 would work best. But I don't mind taking the risk since Macbook Pros were recently updated and MacBook Pro products are a lot more longer lasting.
I would love to hear from as many people as possible. The more lamest terms the better. Any information would help. I know the battery life info and such. I have a few External Hard drives. So I don't have an issue with space. But if you have any more question that might be able to help you give me more information to help me make the right choice by all means.
I'd prefer less answers saying. i7 cause its better and will last you for a while anyways. More in depth reason would help. If not just your input on which works best.

Personally, I would say go for the 2.4 GHz 15-inch model to drop the price so you can then upgrade the RAM to 8 gb or/and to an SSD. Apple's processing speed differences of 2.4/2.53/2.66 are insignificant, and the only reason I see of going to the i7 model is because of a small boost in the graphics cache (512mb) for gaming.
It all really depends on 2 things:
1) how many and how huge of programs you like to run at once
2) how much space you need on your computer for data
If you run a lot of programs at once or use larger programs like Final Cut, an upgrade to 8gb of RAM will make your computer much faster. A .13 GHz increase in speed won't do anything except cause the program you're using at the moment to possibly work more quickly. RAM is crucial for an abundance of work. It is also more expensive to add 4 gb though...
On the data note, I prefer using an external hard drive to not only backup my files but to also use it as a hard drive. For example, I keep what I need to use at the moment (like current videos i'm editing) on the computer and keep the stuff I won't use for weeks or stuff I'll probably never use again on the external drive. It keeps my computer from having 100s of gigabytes of info on it...easier to manage the computer and its contents. Even being someone who does a lot of video editing, a 128 gb SSD is the perfect size for me if not more than enough. Bonuses of the SSD: faster read/write, no mechanical parts such as spinning dics, silent. The HD that comes standard is really the only thing that makes noise on a computer aside from the cooling. Once again though, SSD is a more expensive upgrade.
As always, it's personal opinion and up to you man!
If you'd like to keep it at 2000, go for the 2.4 GHz model (1699 with student discount I think), and use the 300 for whatever you'd like to add on, whether it be the care plan or what I've mentioned. This might sound complicated, but if you do decide to buy the SSD, then consider the 2.53 GHz model because it only costs 60 more than the SSD on the 2.4 model. You get an extra 50 off with the student discount AND the SSD upgrade is cheaper because your base memory is different.
Good luck!

I own a 13-inch MacBook Pro and for the past day, my wifi on my laptop says I only have two bars of connection and is running very slow, but all of my other devices such as my iPhone and iPad are connecting perfectly to the wifi. How can I fix this? I have tried to shut my laptop off and let it rest and I have also re-started my wifi router three different times. Someone please help me with this problem so I can begin to use my laptop again as I take it to school and use it for class.
    Thanks so much!

FCP, and all software on OSX, has a few different "preference" files (the extension is .plist), which store all your user settings. Each time you resize a window, change a setting, anything, this file is re-written. Kinda easy to see how they would become corrupt every now and then.
    -Close FCP
-Navigate to User>Library>Preferences and delete com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
-Navigate to User>Library>Preferences>Final Cut Pro User Data and delete Final Cut Pro 5.0 Prefs
    -Empty your trash
Relaunch FCP and see if that worked.
Download FCP Rescue to make this process easier in the future. When you have FCP running really smooth, open FCP Rescue and create a backup of your preference files. If it starts acting wanky, just run FCP Rescue and Restore your backup preferences. Works really slick, and it's free.
EDIT: Or use the really simple explaination that X posted as I was typing.

  • Does the standard Intel HD Graphics 4000 in the 13 inch Macbook pro stand up to other graphics cards with dedicated memory ( 1GB of memory for instance)?

Does the standard Intel HD Graphics 4000 in the 13 inch Macbook pro stand up to other graphics cards with dedicated memory ( 1GB of memory for instance)? I need a laptop for college and the Engineering program suggests a dedicated video card with minimum 1GB of video memory.

I have a Intel HD 4000 in my Mac Mini (late 2012), and it's okay for what I need it.
    However:
    - there were a few issues with flickering on the video output to external monitors. These were solved through a firmware update that came with OSX 10.8.3 - for the majority of the users. There is apparently still a small group of users that still has issues. You can read long threads about this here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4472316?start=0&tstart=0
    and here
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4490924?start=0&tstart=0
So for most of us (me included) this issue is solved, but it seems that certain displays / monitors don't work well with the intel HD4000, don't know if there is a pattern or a list of monitor models...
    - there was an issue with the color calibration on the HDMI output. No matter how much you tried to calibrate, the results remained unsatisfying. All light colors were crushed to white, wrong contrast, ...
You can read about this here:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1482487
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4480354?start=0&tstart=0
The same firmware update improved this a little, good enough for me, but I can imagine it's not good enough if you do graphic work and need reliable colors from your monitor. On HDMI output, the thunderbolt/MDP output is fine. So it's mainly a dual monitor setup issue.
If it's for graphic work, I'd go for a Mac Book Pro with dedicated GPU !

  • Can you use the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display straight out of the box, or do you have to charge it first?

Can you use the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display straight out of the box, or do you have to charge it up fully before you can use it. I do not want to damage the laptop by misusing the battery.

Attach the charger and start charging the battery to 100%.  The good news is that after you have connected the charger, you may start using the MBP as well.
    Ciao.

  • Which is the most recent MacBook Pro with a hard disk?

I am looking to upgrade from my present MacBook Pro (early 2011). However, I found out that all new MacBook Pro's come with solid state memory instead of hard disks (which would be nice if it werent for the exorbitant price tag to get anywhere close to the 1 TB I require). In addition, they don't have optical drives anymore nor ethernet connectors. In other words, there really seems to be no "all-in-one, portable workhorse" solution left in Apple's line-up. Therefore I would be very grateful for any information on which was the latest model year for MBPs that had all of these features, or at least the hard disk?
(I realize there are workarounds to all of the shortcomings of present generation MBPs, but they require schlepping around additional hardware, dongles, connectors etc., thereby defying the purpose of a truly portable computer. I also understand that MacBook Pros have become lighter and sleeker - but for people who put a premium on light weight, there are already MacBook Airs.).

This model was released in June 2012 and is still available:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/FD103LL/A/refurbished-154-inch-macBook-Pro-23g hz-Quad-core-Intel-i7
Monitor the refurbished section daily.  Changes can and do occur frequently.  My prediction is that the non retina MBP's will not be around very long, so if one comes close to your 'ideal', grab it while you can.
    Ciao.

  • Best 17" Macbook Pro Configuration for Video Editing?

I'm just about to buy a new 17" Macbook Pro.
Should I select 500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200rpm or the 500GB...? I have no clue what the difference is.
I will occasionally be mobile, traveling, eight days in November, weekends now and then, but not every week. Video editing with FCE4.
Any recommendations, CONFIDENT recommendations? I can only afford the 4GB. Other than that, I'm game.

    Should I select 500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200rpm or the 500GB...?
    Hi,
If you are purchasing the mid-2009 MacBook Pro I would stay with the stock 500GB. The 7200 RPM model seems to have issues according to user reports.

As far as external storage, I use the FirmTek SeriTek/2EN2.
    http://www.amug.org/amug-web/html/amug/reviews/articles/firmtek/2en2/
It is available as a bundle here: http://firmtek.stores.yahoo.net/sata2ensm2e.html
The reason I like the SeriTek/2EN2 is that it has hot swap bays and uses a pure native SATA interface. This provides the fastest performance available and the best compatibility with eSATA ExpressCards.
If you are looking for even faster ExpressCard performance with the SeriTek/2EN2 check out the Sonnet Tempo Pro: http://www.amug.org/amug-web/html/amug/reviews/articles/sonnet/pro-expresscard/

  • Should I get the 15 inch MacBook Pro with HD screen or regular screen?

    Hi,
I'm going to buy a new MacBook Pro 15 inch (I think the highest configuration), but I'm debating whether I should get the HD screen or not (most likely the glossy screen - I know the anti-glare is probably more functional but I think the glossy just looks a lot better.....). I've read that there can be problems with the screen (text too small or things like that). I just want to know, is the HD screen worth it or should I just stick with the regular screen?
    Thanks for your input!

I was in the USA last month and decided to get the 15" with the best spec available, so I wouldn't kick myself later. It came with the HD display - I specifically wanted the anti-glare. My previous 15" MBP also had the anti-glare option. Maybe it's a personal choice, but I prefer the anti-glare display - I hate looking into a display, and seeing a reflection of what is behind me on my display.
Anyway, I'm really happy with my purchase, and would make the same purchase if I had to do it again. I'm not too sure I can notice much difference in the HD display compared to my older 15 " though, pictures look pretty much the same (great), but maybe it's only noticeable working with very high quality graphics and images. Good luck, I'm sure you will be happy with the purchase

  • I have the 13 inch macbook pro bought in august 2011,the battery life instead of 7 hours lasts only for 3-4 hours why is this so

i was very impressed when i saw the 7 hour battery life of the macbook 13 in the store . but after using the system it only lasted 3-4 hours completely , same was the case for windows 7 pro. all the other functions of my mac are working fine.I buyed the system pin packed in front of me.I questioned the retailer about this but he had no clue what was happenig which caused this.I think this has something to do with china as my mac has been assembled in china and designed by apple californiahttp://computershopper.com/laptops/reviews/apple-macbook-pro-13-inch-2011-versio n these are the specs and the review of the system.but remove the phenominal battery life from the pros.I'm new to apple so please also provide me a location where i can get apple support in Pakistan

The 7 hour battery life is maximum that can be expected with minimal drain, but 3-4 hours either means you are using it very, very hard or the battery is bad. OR the gauge needs calibration, see below.
Turn off WiFi if you are not using it, and dim the display to also save battery power. It also depends on the applications that you are using.
One months is  awfully fast for you to lose that much battery time. If the laptop was new, then I would talk to the seller about an exchange, at least exchanging the battery.
Have you tried calibrating the battery? See
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/9036.html
for how. Please note, this only calibrates when the MBP charges the battery and resets the calibration of time or percentage of battery charge left. The lithium battery does not have a memory.

  • Should I get the 17 inch MacBook Pro, Dell Precision M6600, Lenovo Thinkpad W520, or the HP EliteBook 8760 W

I already own an old MacBook Pro running Core 2 Duo processor and have no problems with it. I was told by my friends not to go with the new Snow Leopard Operating system as they crash often and produce very slow performance. I am not sure if they will resolve all these issues in Lion. I do intensive work on Adobe and Autodesk products and I require an extremely fast processor, best display, and graphics card. If I choose MBP, I will take the anti-glare screen as I also do desktop publishing. I also don't understand why Apple doesn't ship their MacBook Pro's with Nvidia Quadro or ATI FireGL pro graphics cards. I was told that they are better cards for working with Pro apps. Are there any benefits of choosing Quadro or FireGL instead of GeForce or Radeon. I also saw the comments at Apple store and almost all have given the least possible rating to Quadro cards for Mac Pro. I don't wanna spend money unnecessarily if there will be problems with compatibility and I am also considering if I should switch to a PC as Snow Leopard is very slow. I also wonder how the gaming performance is in the Pro GPU's.

Your friends don't know what they're talking about.  SL is quite good...  far better than Leopard in my experience.  The issue is that many people have systems that get screwed up a little bit, and then they install some major update, and suddenly a slightly screwed up system becomes badly screwed up.  (Imagine building a second floor on a house with undiscovered structural defects.)  This is often unfairly blamed on system updates...  if you rely on word of mouth, every version of the Mac OS ever has been the worst ever.
Of course, I've got no experience with Autodesk.  Perhaps Autodesk has issues with SL, if your friends are all using it and having problems.  SL did change a lot under the hood, so older software may be incompatible with it.

  • What are the best external backup battery choices for the iPod Touch 4G?

    Hello,
I am so disappointed with the battery life on my iPod Touch 4G, even when I turn off location services and notifications and put it in airplane mode.
As such, I realize that I am going to have to get an external backup battery, even though I don't like the idea of carrying around yet another item.
What are the best choices out there, especially any ultra-portable (aka small and non-bulky) ones?  I came across this Juice Pack Air - iPod Touch 4G Case, which seems like the perfect solution, but it is on back order and seems to have been so for a good amount of time.  Who knows when it will be in stock again.
TIA for any and all help!

On the schedule choose courses with +100% Student Satisfaction+
It is hard, (though obviosly not impossible), for other institutions to better this standard of such courses.
If you are aspiring to Oracle DBA OCP be very sure the institute you are choosing satisifies the requirements for the Hands on Course, and do not take the institutes word for it but check.
It may well be that you are looking for institutions offering the WDP programme. This is a maximm of 6 hours/week over several weeks so IMHO is impractical if you do not live nearby. There appear to be comments that sometimes the training from these institutes doing the WDP course can be of very variable quality. Probably the only option here is to seek out the opinions of recent psat students you can trust.
