Which is the earliest generation iPod touch that will sucessfully stream BBC iPlayer listen again programmes wirelessly to a dock?

My second generation touch runs IOS 4.2.1 and will no longer update. What is the earliest generation that will run the necessary software to stream radio programmes wirelessly via the BBC iPlayer "listen again" facility?

According to this wikipedia article, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IOS_version_history, you need an iPod Touch 3rd generation or iPad 1st generation as minimum to run iOS 5.1. However, if you are going to get a new (or newish) device, I would recommend getting a more recent model for a bit of future proofing - the next time the BBC updates the app it will probably raise the minimum version of iOS too.

  • 3rd generation ipod touch that will no longer sync but charges

I have a 3rd generation ipod touch.  It was syncing to my itunes just fine and then one day it stopped syncing.  It shows that its charging but never syncs anything.  When i click to do a manual sync, it goes through the process but does not transfer any music.  Any suggestions.  I am running windows 7 64bit if that makes any difference with the newest version of itunes.

On your computer go to the control panel (hover in the lower right corner) then programs, add/remove programs
Uninstall iTunes, Apple Mobile Device Service, Apple Application Support then go to apple.com and redownload and reinstall iTunes and try again.
You won't lose any content, you're not deleting that, just the programs that access them.
What is thought to happen is that sometimes a new version of itunes doesn't update the drivers in those other two programs. The only way to update the drivers is to force it by uninstalling the programs which allows itunes to write the correct ones.
My iPad and iPod did exactly the same thing and this is how I fixed it.

  • I have a second generation ipod touch that will not update past version 3.1.3, when i check updates it says it is up to date but im quite sure i should be able to get at least a 4.2 ios update. If someone could please help id really appreciate it!!

I have made sure that my ipod is second generation, and i have tried to resotr it twice to fix the problem. I'm getting a little bit frustrated with it. I went to the apple store in metrotwn and the gentlemen didnt even look at the ipod, just told me that it was maybe to old of a generation to support updates. Funny thing is my boyfriend had it before me and he updated it past 3.1.3 no problem.

    - Are you sure you have a 2G iPod and not a 1G? Yucan can itell the difference here by the shape of the black antenna cover on the back of the iPOd.

Does it happen with the apps that came with the iPod?
Does it happen with all apps you have downloaded/installed?
Have you ried deleting the apps and redownload/install the apps?  You will not be charged again if you are signed into the same iTunes account that originally purchased the apps.
Next would be to restore from backup
Last would be to restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • We have some 3rd generations iPod touches that are note syncing with the computer we have. The original computer that the ipods was synced to is gone. We downloaded the itunes to the new computer and logged on as the same account and it won't sync.

An iPod can pn;y sync wiht one iTunes kibrary and the new computer is a new iTunes library:
    - Transfer iTunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a third-party probgram like one of those dicussed here:
Copy music from Ipod to new computer...: Apple Support Communities
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup

  • I have the 1st generation ipod touch is there anyway that apple will trade it for the new ipod touch even if i have to put in a little money myself like some trade in credit or somthing?

I have the 1st generation ipod touch looking to trade for the new ipod touch or someone to give me money for the new ipod touch

There is no trade in program.
You can sell to to someone.
Apple has a recycling program where they will give you 10% off of a new ipod if your bring in your old one.

  • Why isn't the new iOS4 update compatible with the 1st generation iPod touch

It makes me extremely angry that i have wanted what the new update contains ever since i got my ipod and now I can't have it because whoever made the update didn't make it compatible with the 1st generation iPod touch. Ig someone could give me a good reason as to why this happened that would be much appreciated.

Doesn't have the needed hardware in particular not enough RAM.

Why won't ios 3.1.1 download for the 1st generation ipod touch?  It will start and then a second later stop.

  • How do you get apps for the 1st generation iPod touch

How do I get apps for the 1st generation iPod touch?

By updating the iOS on the iPOd.  The 1G can go as high as 3.1.3.  That works with a lot of apps.  But some apps require a higher iOS and/or newer iPod.

  • The Genius playlist and the 1st Generation ipod touch

I am just wondering, is the genius playlist ability not available to the 1st Generation iPod touch or does it only work on certain songs?
Because it would be really annoying if they limited to the 2nd Generation iPod touch only.

Another post here said to just go ahead and resync your iPod and it should start working. And it did for me. If that does not work make sure that genius is enabled on your iTunes, otherwise it will not add the functionality to your iPod.
    Hope that helps

  • When is the release date for the 5th generation iPod touch

When is the release date for the 5th generation iPod touch?

Nobody knows (except for apple of course). All it says on the ipod touch page that it ships in October so it could be any date. I predict that it is in the first two weeks of October but when it says buy it now instead of pre-order you know its about to come out.

  • How do you update the 2nd generation ipod touch to get IOS 4.3?

My niece sold me her second generation ipod touch so I could give it to my five-year old for christmas. I was so excited to give it to him, until I tried to start loading apps.  It kept saying that I needed IOS 4.3.  How do I get that on this ipod?  This was going to be his BIG gift because obviously I don't want to buy a five-year old a brand new ipod touch.  I will be so upset and disappointed if I can't use this...

Sorry, the 2nd generation iPod Touch can not be upgraded beyond iOS 4.2.1.

  • Were the first generation ipod touches made using lead free solder?

Does anyone know if the first generation ipos touches were made using lead free solder? For that matter, did the first generation ipod touches contain any lead at all?
Also, did the first generation ipods use arsenic free glass, or was that only the second generation on? One last question, were the first generation ipods mercury and cadmium free?

The tech specs for the 1G iPod do not contain any staement oh material us. like later iPods.

  • When is the 6th generation iPod touch being unveiled?

Apple forgot to unveil the 6th generation iPod touch during their September 9 event. Because of that, what should we do about it?

Hey Brandon, Your guess is as good as anybody else's. Per Wikipedia, all iPod Touch models were released in September of  2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2012, but you already know that. The Keynote came and went, iPhone 6, Apple Watch, iPad, and U2 all got a nod... Curiously, not a word (or a picture) about the iPod. Some are saying wait till October, maybe November... "maybe". Or maybe the iPod is going the way of Captain Dunsel. Don't have answer for you, to say any more would be speculation, and we cannot do that here. I've been watching and waiting also-- But I'm not holding my breath. I guess if your looking to get the next big thing, now, I would look at the iPhone or iPad. The current iPod 5 is good, I have one, but it is 2 years old, and in personal electronics that's old and dated tech, (and the A5 chip is having enough issues with current apps). Don't get me wrong, I plan to use my iPod 5 until it's a total brick-- hopefully for many years. Hope this helps, Cheers.
