• Jdeveloper JSP-Struts (which is the right way to decalre a DataSource)

Hello to all..
I'am developing web application for a car assicuration.
I would like to know which is the right "connection" (jndi name) to use in my application..
I have made a JDBC connection to my production databse...
Then I have made a Data Source from menu (Jdeveloper -> Tools -> Embeded Oc4J -> Current workspace -> Datasources...
Here I have created a new DataSource from "Autocreate from IDE..."...
My Question is.. which Class name I must use?
Default class is: com.evermind.sql.DriverManagerDataSource
I see that there is also a: oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleConnectionPoolDataSource..
Which Class I must select? My application is used by many users online..
Is there any axample on oracle to see how to use JNDI connections (connection pool)..
I'am using Jdeveloper version: 10.1.2.1.0
best regards
Peter

AFAIK all connections, DataSource ones included are created by calling the DriverManager. A DataSource is a factory for Connection objects (from JavaDocs)
If you're talking about managing connections then it depends on the application. A DataSource is great for apps that can support many clients or are multi-threaded, but may require a JNDI implementation to get to it.
If however you have an single threaded app that hits the database in a serial fashion, then DataSource is probably an overkill.

I appended DRAW table with the above 2 input fields.. i am not sure about the table where the document details are saving upon SAVE is triggered.
In DRAW table document number getting generated is saved with all the other values except PERNR AND ENAME.

Hi,
Please download "ODAC 11.1.0.6.21 with Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio". When you install it, it will create an 11g Oracle home. Let it do that (don't try to install it into the Oracle XE home).
You will need to set up a connect alias to connect to the XE database (as if it were on another machine).
Thanks,

• Which is the right way?/place to post the suggestion to SAP

Hi Freinds,
if someone have to make a suggestion to SAP, for its product extension..or maybe a new feature to add to its existing product offering...which is the right place...shld it be in the form of a blog or a post in a forum...
and if indeed turns out to be a unique feasible feature and gets lots of positive response...why kind of recognition will it get....

lol. there's a world outside the US for those who don't know.
therefore ASUG might not be the right address for someone living elswhere. there are some SAP user groups in other areas of this world, eg in germany it's DSAG; unfortunately you have to be a member of those 'societies' (membership fee) and it's not easy to make yourself heard in the beginning.
SAP could provide better channels for that, e.g. special SDN areas for that purpose.

• Which is the right hardware address?

If I look at Prefs->Built-in Ethernet -> Ethernet, the panel quotes an 'ethernet ID'. System Profiler -> Network gives a MAC address. Both of these look like plausible hardware addresses(6 pairs of letters and digits with colons between), but they're different. Does anyone know which is the right one to quote to register on a (BootP) network? And, just out of interest (unless there's something weird about my Macbook) what the other one refers to?
I need to get this registered to our university network but (surprise surprise) the IT people don't support Apples so they're no use.....
Thanks

Ethernet is the category name for both the Airport and "Built-in Ethernet" devices under which the MAC addresses are listed. If you click on Network in the System Profiler left-hand panel, you should see a list of active services. This is a list of all possible network connections. One of these should be "Built-in Ethernet", and is also referred to as "en0" (Airport is "en1"). When you select "Built-in ethernet", its properties and settings appear in the pane below. This MAC address should, of course, be the same as the one in the Network preference pane.

• I had an old iPod classic 40 gb, now it doesn't work anymore; I have to add a new one (iPod classic 60 gb) to my iTunes: could you tell me which is the right procedure?

I had an old iPod classic 40 gb, now it doesn't work anymore; have to add another one (iPod classic 60 gb) to my iTunes (windows XP), which is the right procedure?

Plug it in and follow the onscreen directions. That you previously had an iPod doesn't matter.

• In Cisco IronPort WSA, what is the difference of an Access Policy, and an Identity?

Hi Everyone,
I am currently setting up a custom access for a particular subnet.
What I did is to create a new identity for them, then allowed only specific URL categories for them. Note that the subnet is already allowed to access the internet through Global access policy.
What will be the difference if I rather created a new Access Policy for the subnet?
And technically, what's the difference of an Access Policy and an Identity?

This was not my question. I asked if using the Marginal in Printing will you have a frame around the image?
I think you're confused about which thread you are posting to. "Wully bully" started this thread by asking about identify plates and watermarks, and I replied to Wully bully's post.
Nevertheless, your question too about printing is best asked in the main LR forum, not here.

• Which is the software needed for an installation on a production server

Hi,
which is the software needed for an installation on a production server (windows 2008) of Forms/Reports 11g ?
I mean the old 10g stand alone forms and report service but un 11g release ..
Regards

For application deployments (production), you will need the following software. The same is true for a design-time environment.
1. Weblogic Server 10.3.2
2. Fusion Middleware 11.1.1.2
See my update in the following:
Re: Some FORMS quesion...
All products are contained within the Fusion Middleware (Forms, Reports, Portal, Discoverer) distribution. This includes Builders, Runtime components, HTTP Server, Web Cache, etc. During the installation process, you choose which you want to install.

• Someone point me in the right direction, is Livecycle Policy server what I want?

I am looking into studying/mastering the best software solution to secure for example ebooks (or digital editions) giving the end user a temporary license to read documents. From countless hours searching I think what I need is Adobe LiveCycle Policy Server, I want to start selling this software if it's the right one and if I'm on the right track, is there a license I can acquire to this software (like maybe a NFR not for resale license) that I can use? Does Adobe offer partnerships associations for people that want to resell their products? If you can help please email me at [email protected] (I use Yahoo for junk mail). Thank you for your time.

Please don't ask for e-mail replies, it goes against the spirit of the
forums.
For sales questions, you should probably click the "Contact a sales
rep" link on http://www.adobe.com/products/server/policy/
It may be possible to become a VAR, since users will require
substantial customisation and support services from someone who knows
the server product well.
If you want to evaluate the software and LiveCycle family, joining the
"Enterprise Developer Program"
(http://partners.adobe.com/public/asn/developer/detail.html) will give
you copies of LiveCycle products for your development and evaluation
(not production use, and not resale), for around $1500 per year.

Hi Eros,
Just a confirmation, did you encounter any issue (get error message) when create the new form and save it?
à
But this new form isn't distributed automatically to all the printers.
Did you mean that click
Devices and Printers in Control Panel, click a printer and select “Print server properties” option, and then didn’t find the new created form in Forms tab in Print server properties panel?
Please open Print Management, navigate to the Print Server and click Forms tab. In the right panel, did you
find the new form which you created?
If anything I misunderstand or any update, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,

• Which is the right compressor?

I've been producing television for quite some time -- one of the problems I run into on a fairly regular basis is which setting to use when I'm ready to deliver. Since tape seems to have gone away, most of my clients request delivery on a DVD. I'm looking for the definitive answer to which setting is the right one? My products air on local stations via our cable provider. I've used a number of different settings -- sometimes I hear nothing (indicating satisfaction), others end up telling me that they can't open the files or run the DVD (everything seems to work fine for me).
Today I got a call from a client that said the files I gave them were "too small" to run on TV. I don't know what that means and don't really care -- I just want them to be satisfied. The settings (which are a major mystery to me) that I have used recently and have worked are:
MPEG-2 6.2Mbps 1-pass.m2v -- now this is apparently too small
I've tried a number of different settings and always get different results. They have asked for .mov files -- I've tried that, but DVD Studio says that is an incompatible format. If I just drag the files to a blank DVD, they say they can't open the files. I'm confused and looking for a standard I can go to every time. Please help?

If the client wants a copy, give it to them on a tape. For one, tape is certainly not dead. DV tape is going the way of the dodo, but other tape formats will be around as long as people still need tape for delivery.
If crazy Mike wants a DVD he can watch, get a cheap DVD recorder and go from a deck, or the timeline, directly to a DVD-R. Don't use DVD+R. For the broadcast station, ask them for a spec sheet. Every station has one, and they aren't all the same. It depends on how they deliver the content to the channel. Some need an mpeg2 program stream, some need a transport stream, a few might need uncompressed, most can work with a DVD, but you have to author it correctly.
If you don't know how to author a DVD, then you probably shouldn't deliver that way. You'll only spend more of your time learning how to do it. Unless you can bill them for learning, which, in my opinion, isn't ethical.
Most likely, you could deliver an mpeg2 program stream with mpeg 1 layer 2 audio. Depending on their sever, they can probably work with a file anywhere from 6 to 15 mb/s. Make sure you give them a full size file, meaning if it's 720x480, don't give them 320x240. You have to check every setting in the compressor preset. But you have to check with the station. They may have an old server, and I know ours won't play a 15mb/s file.

• Which is the right operating system for Apple PowerBook G4

Hi I want to buy a Apple PowerBook G4 but the person is telling me that it does not have a operating system and I want to know which one is the right one to buy and also that is not expensive.

If you are planning on watching video's on the internet, you may be disappointed with that Powerbook. I have a 1.67Ghz Powerbook and it struggles to play streaming video's keeping audio and visual in sync with each other. Anymore, I recommend people get an Intel-based mac if one of the planned uses is internet video.
Here's one source for new, unopened mac software, although you may not like the price: http://hardcoremac.stores.yahoo.net/ . If you look to buy thru an auction site, be aware that any gray-faced disk is a system disk that is locked to the system it shipped with. So, for example, an iMac OS X 10.4 disk won't work on a Powerbook. Best bet is to stay with black-faced retail disks.

• Catcdb.sql is missing, which is the right workaround?

After creating a CDB the instructions ask you to run catcdb.sql, the file was not shipped on GA, this is reported as a bug (Doc ID 17316776.8) but I don't think there is a fix nor couldn't find an official workaround, should I run:
catproc and catalog instead?
I have not run anything but I believe the CDB is not completed until this is not done.
I left my CDB as it is and createt a PDB based on a non-CDB, one of the last steps is to run: @$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/noncdb_to_pdb.sql which I did but at the end of the script is trying to execute:
alter session set container = CDB$ROOT;
So now I'm getting the error: ORA-06553: PLS-213: package STANDARD not accessible
Which I believe is the result of not running catcdb on the CDB.
Anyway, could anyone clarify what's the right workaround? I don't want to mess up my CDB by running catalog and catproc and then find out I shouldn't have.
thank you all.

To solve the: ORA-06553: PLS-213: package STANDARD not accessible after alter session set container = CDB$ROOT;
I ran catproc and catalog however when attempting to create a PDB from a seed I got this error:
SQL> CREATE PLUGGABLE DATABASE PLUG1 ADMIN USER plgadmin IDENTIFIED BY plgadmin
FILE_NAME_CONVERT = ('/data1/oradata/PDBSEED/CDB1/', '/data1/oradata/PLUG1/');  2
CREATE PLUGGABLE DATABASE PLUG1 ADMIN USER plgadmin IDENTIFIED BY plgadmin
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1 <--- fails once again a catalog problem
ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
This is because I only ran the catalog and catproc sql on the root but not on the seed, the right way to do it is to run them using catcon.pl supplied by Oracle and documented here:
Administering a CDB with SQL*Plus
But who really wants to read all this...copy and paste? go here:
oracle 12c: catcon.pl « Daniel Westermann's Blog
That solved my problem so far. If somebody knows what's the official way to fix the missing catcdb.sql script please let us know.

Hi. I'd like to delete the Snow Leopard Snapshots in my Time Machine backup drive because it won't work with Lion
I'm not sure what you mean . . . what won't work with Lion? It sounds like it did do some backups.
Is there a way or an app to know which are Lion snapshots?
There is a way, but it's rather cumbersome. You have to start selecting a full system restore; there's a window showing all of the backups and the version of OSX.
Is there an app I could use to manage the snapshots if manually deleting them will cause problems and side effects later.
It's best to use the Time Machine "Star Wars" display to delete backups, but you really shouldn't have to. Let's figure out what's wrong first.
