The students have had C++ and Visual Basic. Thanks! That depends upon what you mean. I'll assume that by "which Java", you really mean which Java IDE. Correct me if I am wrong.
I have found that JBuilder Foundation (free) is an excellent IDE and provides all the capabilities that new Java developers typically need. You can go beyond its limitations by purchasing the JBuilder Professional or JBuilder Enterprise editions, depending upon your needs.

  • Java platform for Creative Zen X-fi

Would it be possible for someone to create a java platform for the creative zen X-Fi?

%Re: Creative Zen or Creative Zen X-FIE hi
i have Zen X-FI 6gb only and bought it last September.
    i want to say that
Zen X-FI = Zen + speaker + EP 830 + wireless lan + more EQ( i think X-Fi crystalize is just another EQ )+ more buttons.
i love the player and the headphone.
    the sound is clear.
but i seldom use the wireless function.
and i think the battery isn't strong enough for me.
my fingers aren't to big to handle the buttons so it isn't a problem.
fortunately, the player works fine except the sortware.it is a little bit confused.
    this is my opinion.
    hope it hel

  • Which photoshop is for beginners and not the costly full version?

which photoshop is for beginners and not the costly full version?

Depending on what you want to achieve, there is also Lightroom 4.
When comparing CS6, Lightroom, and Elements, Adobe says:
Q:  How do Adobe Photoshop, Photoshop Extended, Photoshop Elements, and Photoshop Lightroom software differ?
A:  Photoshop Elements 11 (US$99) is designed for people who are just getting started with digital photo editing, and delivers powerful yet easy-to-use options that help you organize, edit, create, share, and help protect your personal photos.
Photoshop CS6 (US$699) is the professional standard for creating and manipulating powerful images, and Photoshop CS6 Extended (US$999) delivers everything in Photoshop plus tools for creating and editing 3D images and objects.
Photoshop Lightroom 4 (US$149) addresses the workflow needs of professional and serious amateur photographers, enabling them to import, process, organize, and showcase large volumes of digital photographs quickly, or develop a single image.
And they also have a page that neatly summarizes the best uses for each product. This article gets even deeper into the comparison. I hope this is helpful!

    For what purpose?  Usage?
Elements will be OK for editing photographs.  Just making them look their best, sort of thing.  Photoshop is better if you want make composites, or radical changes, or build an image from scratch, or if you think you are really serious, and want the best tool for the job.

  • What is your opinion on short course Java training for beginners?

A 4-day Java training class is being offered to some here that have (0) Java experience. I don't remember who is offering the course, but it's ostensibly designed for beginners and the list of items to learn in these four days runs about like this:
    1) Download, setup and learn how to use the Java free SDK;
    2) Build robust Java applications;
    3) Learn about java Servlet containers ...
... Oh, heck, I don't know, but you get the picture, right?
I have my own opinions about such classes, but I'd like to hear what you all have to say, especially since I know a number of you are technical managers.
BTW - the programmers are smart and competent, but so far as I know have never worked with ANY OO language before.

~BillOuch! IMO, it would be more worth while to spend 4 days teaching about good OO design, independent of language, then to spend time teaching technically inclined people how to download an SDK or IDE, read docs, etc. Any good engineer should be able to pick up the basics of working with the technology well enough without much instruction. It's thinking about programming in a whole new paradigm that's going to be the struggle. That's where the effort should be spent.
    - AdamThat's exactly what I say.
Can I assume the term engineer is used loosely? Because none of us, to my knowledge can qualify as engineers ... either the Casey Jones type, or any other ;o). We're all simply application programmers here.Yeah, slip of the tongue. I tend to say engineer because I dislike the term "programmer". "Programmer" doesn't do a good job of expressing everything that is involved in what most of us do.

  • Which management platform for 8.1 devices (non RT)

I am getting more and more questions on this: we are going to buy tablets with the regular 8.1 SKU on it, which platform should we choose to manage them: native SCCM client? internet-based sccm client? or intune client?
I think the answer depends on whether those tablets will be domain joined or not, because with intune client you can do a lot of things that you would natively do via GPO for domain joined machines
I would like to create a simple table that anyone can understand to answer the question, all ideas are welcome!

Torsten is right that it depends.  Currently, there isn't a one-size-fits-all solution.
For your particular scenario, the questions that need answered are:
    1. Do you already leverage SCCM?
    2. Do you need as much management functionality as possible of the 8.1 tablets or just a subset such as inventory, patching, etc?  Or do you need inventory, DCM, app deployment?
    3. How many tablets?
    4. Any plans to purchase other tablets such as iPad or Android, or manage smart phones in the future?
    5. And most important, what's your available capex amount to implement a solution?
Depending on the answer to these example questions, such will dictate the best technology or combination of technologies to achieve your device management goals.

  • A good Java book for beginners?

    Hello
I am new to Java language. This year I will go in university (computer science major) so I thought I could study a bit during the summer. So I have choosen to learn the basics (or more) of the Java language. I dont know any other programming languages (So I am completely new to programming too).
I would like to know which is the best online-downloadable book with which I could start to learn the basics of Java (using the Sun's SDK or Borland's JBuilder Personal)? Any suggestion would be appreciated.
P.S. Is it good to learn programming using Java as the first language? A friend of mine told me that is better to start with C, then continue with Java.

Everyone will say that the language they first learnt is the language you should start off with. Java is a good as any language to start with. Whether to by a book or use an online tutorial depends on you.
Online tutorial are up-to-date, but require a good internet connection and plenty of access to a computer.
Books can be carried around (read in bed etc.) but learning about computers away from a computer is weird.
A good book (to download in PDF or buy in a shop) is "Thinking in Java" by Bruce Eckel. It takes you from beginner to expert, in only 1,125 pages!!
If that's not your thing, try the sun tutorials, links on your left.
    good luck

  • Java leaning for flash

hello I have benn offered TeachPro JAVA Programming For
Beginners And Professionals for a couple of £s is this any
good to help my scripting in Flash CS4

    sharpasDOH,
    > hello I have benn offered TeachPro JAVA Programming For

    > good to help my scripting in Flash CS4
Flash Player basically supports three flavors of
    ActionScript: a) the
current ActionScript 3.0, which requires Flash Player 9 or
    higher; b)
ActionScript 2.0 and 1.0, which require Flash Player 6 or
    higher and are
ultimately the same language; and c) Flash 4-era
    ActionScript, which could
    jokingly be called ActionScript 0.0.
Note that none of these is Java. But ... the more recent you
    get, the
more *like* Java ActionScript becomes. They're similar
    languages in many
ways. But if you're just starting out, I wouldn't recommend
    that you teach
yourself ActionScript by reading a Java book. While many of
    the principles
are the same, Java doesn't have the same API as ActionScript.
    Better to
shell out for a couple ActionScript books.

  • Online book/tutorial for beginners.

Does anyone know a good online book/tutorial for java programming for beginners. and im looking for something about OOP structure or something. so for the absolute beginner. i dont know any other languages.
but i don't mean learning the language itself (i dont know what to call it, but i mean the keywords and how to declerate a class and stuff like that.)
    I hope i'm being clear.

Here's the download page, if you prefer to work off-line, like I do. You can download all the tutorials, and all the sample code that they use.

  • Need Information About Java Platform Overview For Manager (WJTB-310)

Hi, My name is Jeffry. I need information about Java Platform Overview For Manager (WJTB-310).
I need Information about table of contents, how long it takes to study that training (approximately), how many chapters are in that training, minimum Internet connection speed to access that training, and everything you know about WJTB-310.
Is there a synchronized audio in WJTB-310 ?
Is there a video streaming in WJTB-310 ?
    Can I receive a certificate for any web-based training ? especially in WJTB-310 ?
Is there a programming language material in WJTB-310 or just an overview ?
Sorry for asking to many question
    Thanks
    Jeffry Kristianto Yanuar

I thought I'd give you a response even if I can't answer your question completely. (I think we ought to start a separate thread entitled "How do you get any replies on this forum???") Here is what I have been forced to do. I introduced some JavaScript on the web page that contains the applet I want to be run. The sole purpose of the JavaScript is to detect which platform the client is on. If it's not MacIntosh, then I have JavaScript write the <object><embed> tag used by the Java plug-in. It it is MachIntosh, then I have JavaScript write the regular <applet> tag and let the Mac browsers do as best they can. With mixed and disappointing results. Netscape 6.2 crashes with a lot of applets. IE 5 brings up the applet okay but certain Swing components aren't displaying properly. The MacIntosh I've been testing on is version 9.1. I'm trying OS X tomorrow.
Why don't you send a reply to my query under the Java Plug-in Forum--from aronsz, dated 06/11/02--if you have some more info by now. I sure would appreciate it.
