Assuming the layout is identical, which keyboard would you choose for feel and ease of typing

I am rocking the keyboard on my T500 which has been my favorite ThinkPad I've spent more than a week with. I think T500 was the last one IBM really had influence on. On to the answer to your question the answer is hands down the standard keyboard.

I'd chose an OS that:
a). Is officially supported
b). You and/or your company has experience with and is comfortable supporting and tuning
As much as Windows tends to be maligned, if you and your company are well experienced in running Windows servers, then by all means, use Windows. Myself, I'd prefer Linux, but that's because I have more experience in running Linux servers in production.

it depends on your requirement.i personally believe in BADI as it include less coding with promising results
there is no such answer which is better it depends on your way of coding or in which you feel comfortable.
For difference beteen BADi/Exit you may search in SCN i'm sure you will get many many examples.i found one for you.

Easy Answer. Google. Hands down Google is better. BC has had issues in the past and while I think the issue is a little bit better I would choose Google. Do remember that Google Apps is $50 (USD) per year per user.
I have used Google Apps since they were still offering 50 free users and has worked great ever since. If there have been downtimes I have not noticed or has been so slight that is hasn't effected me in anyway. This is not the case with BC.
I am not trying to knock BC mail but it isn't the best.

I can read your question a number of ways.
If you mean a disk plugged into your computer you wish to include in Time Machine backup.. just make sure it is HFS+ formatted and remove it from the exclusion list in the TM preferences.
If you mean a disk plugged into your TC for backup,
You can plug a USB disk into a Time Capsule as long as it is compatible.. and the disk is formatted HFS+, ie Mac OS extended Journaled.
You need a USB powered hub if you want to use multiple hard disks and even one might still need a hub.
Not all external drives are recogised but for example the Touro Deskpro works fine.
You can buy them up to 4TB.. how much added space do you want.
Also notice that USB 2 on a TC or AE is slow.. I mean half the speed of the same disk plugged into your computer so consider if speed is relevant to you.
You cannot use TM to backup network disks.. again I am not 100% sure what the question means.

I can't seem to decide on which one to get!! So, I'd like to ask all of you, especially those who have either one of the casings, which one would you get for me?
Also, the store is in the States but I stay in Singapore, would I still be able to purchase it, and what is the price for the casings in Singapore dollars? The Apple online Singapore store doesn't seem to have the leather folio.

Hey, hopefully I can offer a suggestion...
Those two cases are quite different from each other. One is a leather folio with a clasp and the other is a clear case. You first have to decide which type of case you want.
I purchased the exact same Belkin folio for my wife, but in the white+orange colour. She loves it. She likes to put her iPod on shuffle and just let it play while she's on the bus and exercising.
If you are the type of person who changes songs a lot, looks at photos, and watches video, the folio might not be the best, because you are constantly having the clasp open.
Another thing about the Belkin folio is that the pictures are deceiving: the plastic shield doesn't actually cover the clickwheel, only the screen. It's a bit misleading and I was disappointed when my wife opened it and we found that out. Also, the top and bottom the iPod aren't completely covered, so in time it could get scratched.
I still like the case though, as it offers nice protection for the most part, and looks really nice.
The other case is basically a plastic skin. If you like that look and feel, then maybe it'd be for you!

Which of these macs would you choose for video editing?

The main difference is the MBP has an Serial ATA drive, and the Air has a Flash drive. Also the MPB has 2.9Ghz, and the Air has only 2.0Ghz. Which one would you pick for editing with Final Cut Pro X? (Also curious which one you would pick even if video editing wasn't a concern for you, thanks!)

Apple fools a lot of people with that. The 13" is really a MacBook and not a "Pro" machine.
The best machine for video editing depends upon what your going to do, full on production or casual home stuff.
A 15" MacBook Pro and a iMac for the casual lightweight stuff and iMove can do the job.
The new MacPro coming out for the heavy duty stuff.
The industry seems to be moving away from Final Cut Pro X as it's been consumerized or something, lacking needed features and moving towards Avid on powerful Mac's or Windows 7 towers.

Which combination of graphics cards would you choose?

I have a minor dilemma. Due to some strange circumstances I ended up with 2 GeForce 8800 GT's and 1 Radeon X1900 XT.
I use a 30" monitor and 2 additional 20" monitors, thus the need for 2 cards. I certainly don't need 3, and frankly, I don't think the mac pro would handle a 3rd high power card very well in the 3rd or 4th slot anyway.
So now the decision is:
1) Dual GeForce 8800 GT's or
2) 1 GeForce 8800 GT and 1 Radeon X1900 XT
It seems that for gaming there is no question the 8800 GT is better, but the X1900 XT is better for core image performance. What I need to figure out is if core image performance matters at all for any of the programs I use. These programs are used on a daily basis and are usually all open at the same time:
Adobe PhotoShop CS3
Adobe Illustrator CS3
Adobe LightRoom 2 or Bridge CS3 depending
Adobe Dreamweaver CS3
Microsoft Entourage
Microsoft Remote Desktop
Safari
iTunes
Cyberduck
About a million finder windows (OK, 5-10)
(and occasionally) Fusion with Windows XP to test things in Internet Explorer 7
Now, as far as I know, the only real programs that take advantage of core image (or would be slowed down by an 8800 GT) are Apple's Pro Apps like Final Cut Pro, Aperture, etc. I use a different machine for Final Cut Pro and I ditched Aperture for LightRoom so I basically don't use any "Pro Apps" on this machine now.
Do you think I would even notice a difference while working using the 8800 vs the 1900? If not, would it just make sense to go with the Dual 8800's? They're smaller than the 1900, use less power, and run cooler. If someone knows for sure if Adobe CS3 apps run poorly on the 8800 that would probably make the decision for me.

Why, after reading that, would you post benchmarks that tell me the 8800 is better for gaming and the 1900 is better for core image. I don't really understand...
Then you went on to talk about ATI 2600's and 3870's so I'm starting to think that maybe you just didn't read my post... I'm not considering a 2600 or a 3870. I tried to explain in my post very clearly that I am in possession of:
2 x 8800 GT's
1 x X1900 XT
Of those 3 cards, which 2 would you put in your computer if you ran the programs I listed above.
Am I really that unclear?
As for your choice of going with a 2600 and a 3870 -- even though that wasn't one of the options and I don't have either of those cards in my possession -- I wouldn't put the 2600 in my computer just because of the noise. The 3870 seems like a great card (almost as good for gaming as the 8800 and amazing core image performance) but I'm not going to go spend $200+ when I have 3 cards sitting on my desk right now that I can use for free. The X1900 was too loud for me and I ended up modifying it with an Arctic Cooling silent kit, and from what I've read the 2600 is even louder than the X1900.

What would you choose?

If for some reason that I can't be bothered to think of, you were only allowed to keep one device or gadget, what would it be? For the purposes of this I'm not including wi-fi routers or hubs, you get to keep them, so the internet is still available. For me, I think it would be my Kindle. Yes, I would miss my Chromebook, but there was a long time in my life where I lived without the 'net. Besides, I can still access it on my Kindle but I wouldn't want to do our monthly grocery shop on it as it's one of the original Kindles with the keyboard, so not the best for the 'net. I would definitely miss the TV of course, but if I was given a choice between books & TV I would always choose books. I would also miss our breadmaker as it makes awesome bread & jam. Would you choose neoOffice over openOffice?

Hello all,
I'm very new to Apple. I've purchase my first iMac last September and this is my first post.
I'm interested in installing either of these products. Office 2011 for Mac is out of the question as I don't do enough work at home to warrant purchasing it.
The last post I've read regarding the same question was circa 2006.
Anyways what are the pros & cons between the two? At the moment I'm inclined to install openOffice.
Your thoughts and guidance are appreciated.

Neooffice, when it first came out, was a vast improvement of the user interface over Openoffice, which had not been fully ported over to OSX at that time. The current version of Openoffice is fully ported to OSX so that is no longer an issue. Others may have other thoughts about Neooffice, but that was the reason I first started using it.
There is another fork of Openoffice called Libreoffice. This version was created after a falling out by some of the programers of Openoffice from Oracle when Oracle took over Sun. I went from Neooffice, to Openoffice to Libreoffice. Other than the user interface issue above (which is no longer an issue anyway,) I don't see any significant reason to choose one over the other, as far as features go. However, my needs for an Office suite are quite simple so YMMV of course.
BTW, I use Office 2011 because of my need for Outlook. Most of the time, I'm using Libreoffice for word processing and spreadsheets and only open Word and Excel when I get one of those dreaded DOCX or XLSX files. Openoffice and Libreoffice still have issues with some formatting of text and tables in DOCX. So if you have to deal with the current MSOffice files a lot, then you might not have a choice except to buy MSOffice.

Which migration path would you pick?

You have 2 instances of DBMS with multiple applications attached to them: one is Oracle and the other is SQL Server. They evolved over the years from different organizations serving the same types of clientele but the clientele are disjoint. What would you do when asked to consolidate DBMSs?
[1] Maintain separate schemas: Use the Oracle Migration Workbench method to migrate everything in SQL Server to Oracle under a different schema?
[2] Deep integration:
- Shoe-horn the schema of SQL Server into the schema in Oracle
- convert all t-sql sprocs to PL/SQL by hand
I am darn sure the [2] is going to cost a whole lot more but how many times more are we talking here --- 2X, 3X, ???? Would anyone in their right mind do [2]?

We have a great many customers doing both. Today you can use SQL Developer Migrations to migrate the SQL Server to Oracle and that includes the T-SQL. Which type of TV would you choose.

I am on the hunt for a TV or Projector for my Home Theater room project. With the options I have there is just too much avail to decide and I have been reading AVS Forums but there is just so much info that it would take years to read. I have atleast narrowed down my choices for the most part.
1. Panasonice Projector AE3000 or 4000 (I really wish Best Buy would carry this model).
2. Mistubishi 73837 or 82837 DLP (if I can find one although they have color wheel problems)
3. Samsung LED/LCD 3D but its not big enough
4. Samsung LED/LCD non-3d also not big enough
5.Samsung Plasma 58B560,63b590,58b860
6.Panasonic Plasma 58V10,65S1
Still waiting for LG models to come out as they were the best looking and the best PQ out of all the TV's at CES especially the 3D.

Projectors are awesome if you have the space to make full use of it.
There are still some cases where, given sufficient room, I would use my 640x480 Sharp XG-E660U over my 46" 1080p AQUOS - although none in the past few years as my apartment doesn't have any places that allow the projector to reach its full potential.
That said projectors that would obliterate the old Sharp are so cheap nowadays I'd probably just buy a new one rather than use the old Sharp.

Which would you choose MBP for FCP7

Ok here is my question.
I am looking to invest in a refurbished 15in MBP. I cannot afford a new one at thist time. Below is what I am planning to use it for and I will give you the two models I am looking at, I would really be thankful if any of you experts out there can give me a had in the selection. Ok here it goes.

FCP7 (I will be shooting in AVCCAM(Both 1080 and 720p) and transfering it to Pro-Res 422(LT)
Photoshop CS5 or CS6 (Using smaller images taken with an 8MP Camera, not looking to edit images over 12MP at this time.)
Adobe Lightroom
Some small use of After Effects.
Surf The Web
Watch a movie or two.
Here are the two machines I am looking at.
the October 2011 15inch MBP with 2.2Ghz Quar Core...I am planning to upgrade the memory to 8GB

the April 2010 15inch MBP with 2.8 Intel Core i7....This model will have the matte Hi-Res screen not the glossy one I will get on the one above. I am also planning to upgrade the memory to 8GB.
I know these are not the AWSOME new machines that Apple is making, I cant afford them and cannot see ever being able to drop more then 1400 on a machine at this time. I am not a real power user either. I guess I am curious with these two processors and the two different displays what you all think is more important.

Have you actually seen this "graininess" issue for yourself? I only ask because I was very hesitant about buying a MBP for that reason. I went into the Apple Store, compared screens between MacBook, MacBook Pro and iMac. The MacBook screen was clearly inferior. The MacBook Pro (15") and the iMac screen looked comparable in quality. I saw no graininess.
I went to CompUSA the following week. I brought my wife with me. She's a graphic designer, works on very good quality monitors all day--in fact she makes the purchasing decisions for the graphics department of a Fortune 500 company. We compared the same three sets of monitors. She came to the same conclusion as me: the MacBook monitor is inferior. The MacBook Pro and iMac monitors are not noticeably different in quality. In fact, she even thought the MacBook Pro was every bit as good as the Apple Cinema Display they had. I bought a MacBook Pro right there.
I've been using it for about 6 weeks now. Its the best laptop screen I've ever used-better than my daughter's PowerBook G4 (last generation), better than my wife's high-end PC laptop (I think its a Toshiba), better than my son's PowerBook G4 (second to last generation). I also compare it to my higher end 22" external monitor (more expensive Gateway version). Sure, the external is better, but it isn't designed for a laptop.
So, maybe I got lucky, and all the MacBook Pros at the Apple Store, and the ones at CompUSA and the one I purchased all happened to be the few that don't have this problem (mine was manufactured during the last week of November or the first week of December). Or, this is a relatively rare problem with one of the earlier batches. Or it is exaggerated to begin with. Take a look for yourself.

Which one of these 12volt/car charger for MacBook Pro would you choose..???

Hi everyone.
I am looking for a suitable 12volt/car charger, so i can charge my brand new MacBook Pro directly from our caravan batteries via a car/12 volt socket. I dont want to use a inverter, as it draws unnecessary power from the vans batteries.
I am being cautious as I don't want to use a product that is not 100% compatible here in Australia and might void the warranty in any way.
I can not find anything suitable manufactured by Apple but I have found many 3rd party alternatives, ranging from approx $50 up to a couple of hundred.
Has anyone had any experience with any of these products.
