Which kind of DVI cable to use with a KVM switch?

Hi. I have a Power Macintosh G5 and three (3) Mac Minis. I also have a Apple Cinema Display (DVI). I recently purchased a Avocent 4 Port DVI/USB KVM switch. I just got it today. It looks like a nice switch. However, it did not come with any cables. So, I need to buy some USB cables and some DVI cables. Should I buy DVI-A, DVI-D, or "dual" DVI cables?
Thanks in advance for help.

Unless you have a 30" ACD, which requires dual-link DVI, you want to buy DVI-D cables.

  • Which kind of software should I use?

This morning, my Windows operating system suddenly crashed and can not boot normally. So, I tried to restart computer through
restoring Windows with Ghost. However, after restoring Windows operating system, I found all non-system partitions are lost because of mistaken operations. I want to recover lost partitions.
Which kind of software should I use?

generally, different methods should be adopted in different situations. If users have made backup, they can restore lost
partitions with the help of partition backup. Nevertheless, since many Windows users are not used to backing up common partitions,
they should select partition recovery software if they want to recover lost partitions easily and safely. However, there
is a large amount of partition recovery software which has serious defects in function. Once we use this kind of partition recovery software to recover lost partitions, we are very likely to suffer Windows partition recovery failure. More seriously, lost partition
may be damaged heavily, bringing great trouble. In order to help users avoid downloading partition recovery software which
has serious defects, we suggest usingMiniTool Partition Recovery.

  • Just bought AV cables to use with iPhone... question

I bought the Apple brand AV cables to use with my iPhone. It will only work when I plug the cables directly into the phone. Is it not possible to run it through the dock that came with the phone? Is there a way to remotely control the phone while it is plugged in?

No, to watch movies you take your iPhone out of the dock and hook the sold separately AV component cable dock connector to your iPhone.

  • What kind of DVI cable do I need?

Hi. I want to run video from my PB12 to my plasma TV (I know I need a separate audio cable).
I have the mini DVI to DVI adapter that came with the PB. My question is really, how many pins must the HDMI - DVI cable have? I see so many available with 18 (+1), but my adapter is 24 (+1).
Do I NEED a 24 pin, or can I use the much easier to find 18 pin?
    thanks!

I use the adaptor to transfer the signal to a VGA format and simply bought a VGA cable from monoprice.com. Very good deals on all kinds of cables.
I recently ordered a VGA cable for a friend and they sent me a DVI to HDMI cable by mistake. I bet that would work fine too. It would seem to me that DVI is DVI, and there aren't any optional connectors that will work without all the possible pins in place.....in other words, I don't know for sure about the pin thing...I'd just get a DVI to HDMI, at the length you need, and see if it works.

  • Dvi cable not compatable with elite 8000

Hello! First post. I just bought a refurb HP Elite 8000,windows 7 and new HP 20xi monitor. DVI cable is not compatable with port on computer. Adaptor available? Can I use just the VGA cable?
    Thanks.

    Hi:
If you want to have digital video, then you need a display port to dvi cable.
In addition to the analog VGA port, that is the other video out port that the 8000 Elite has.

  • Help decide which 2.5" portable HD to use with TM on MBP

I am trying to decide which HD(s) to purchase for use w/laptop when I upgrade to Leopard. When I go away for 2-4 weeks at a time I need a small 3x5" size. I don't want to be without the incremental backups for that long and just reconnect to a big drive when I get home. My problem is that the largest capacity firewire mini-drive is now the 320 GB triple interface Mercury-on-the-Go by OWC. I want this to be my only drive (i.e., not have a big desktop kind at home, too). My current usage is only 52 GB of my 111(120) GB internal drive. I would like to have: (1) a bootable clone of my old Tiger, just in case Leopard upgrade goes awry, (2) bootable clone of Leopard after the install (will use CCC for these), and then (3) Time Machine. Should I get TWO small hard drives instead of one? Reason being that I can use one dedicated just to TM, and the other to safeguard the two clones and any extra large stuff I want to outboard and not include in TM (photos, music, maybe movies). Just one 320 GB drive doesn't seem like enough to partition 4 ways--Trouble is, this gets expensive. OWC's 320 GB drive is $295 (for TM) and their 160 GB (for the other stuff) is $175. Does anyone know if a larger capacity 2.5" drive exists that could be put in a case? (500 GB would be great). If not, and I try to cut costs a bit, would a 200 or 250 GB drive for TM be enough? OR, any other recommendations on brands/sizes? I want quality, firewire 400+USB, and SMALL size. G-drives are even more expensive; WD's 320 passports are cheaper, but aren't firewire...alas. Can someone help me decide what to do? Thanks!

    hi, zenday.
I'm a frequent traveller for work, and having a lot of data with me is key.
I develop software for the nokia stores worldwide, and the projects are quite big.
I only trust Lacie Drives as I've been using them for almost 7 years now.
    never had a problem.
I just bought a Lacie mobile drive 250GB, my MBP has a 160GB drive.
I also use a Little Big Disk of 160GB for work projects, which I backup (entirely) every time I leave on another Lacie 2TB drive, which stays on in my office and can be accessed via VPN.
now this is my traveling configuration:
    MBP 160GB
Lacie Mobile Disk 250 (time machine)
Lacie Little Big Disk 160 (work)
I also keep a whole system drive clone to another Lacie 160GB in case my internal drive dies on the way.
I know it might seem too drastic, but I never had a drive failure and I never want one.
I see all my friends losing data and work, and I can't afford that.
    hope this helps.
    ciao.ubi

  • Having trouble using my new touch with my tv. Have the lightening adapter, but only get sound, no video via the cable I used with my touch (4)

How do I use my new touch (5) on my tv. My touch (4) used a cable attached to my tv, so I got a lightening adapter, added to end of cable, and plugged in new touch. Sound came through on tv, but no video. Do I need a new cable that supports this video content??

    Hello krnsrts2013,
For more information on which Digital AV adapters are compatible with which iOS devices, you may find the information outlined in the following article helpful, in particular this portion:
Apple AV adapters cannot provide video output when used with Lightning to 30-pin Adapter or Lightning to 30-pin Adapter (0.2 m) adapter.
About Apple Digital AV Adapters for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
Per the article, for an iPod Touch 5th Gen, you would need either a Lightning Digital AV Adapter or a Lightning to VGA Adapter, depending on your connection type.
    Sincerely,
    - Brenden

  • What kind of DVI Cables does the Mini Take?

I want to get a DVI cable for my iLo 15in LCD but I'me confussed with the type get. I know that The Mini and my monitor are DVI male but at the mini's output after the grid of pin inlets theres a horizontal and vertical inlet that makes a plus sign look along with one inlet in each space. The DVI to VGA Adapter on the DVI ( female ) side has same plus sign pins but in the large grid of pins, there a gap in the middle. The mini doesn't have that gap on the output.
On the LCD's DVI input, it has that entire grid of pin inlets ( holes ) with no gap but next to the grid there is only one horizontal inlet. It does'nt have that plus sign look like the mini's output. Nor does it have those four inlets on each side of the cross. It's just has a horizontal inlet.
I'm not familiar with DVI so I'm confused. Some cables on the market hace that cross and the gap in the middle of the pins, some only have the horizontal pin and the grid of pins with no gap. ( Help )!!!!!!!!!

I'm not completely following you, mostly cause my math sklls bl0w.
But I think you're making a distinction, perhaps without knowing it, between a DVI and an ADC connnector.
Digital Video Input is the first connector you refer to, I believe.
Twenty four pins in a 3 x 8 config and the section for video color you refer to as the plus sign. This is technically 5 pin.
The other connector sounds like an Apple Disply Connector (or ADC). These are 30-pin in a 3 x 10 config plus the video color 5-pin.
You can get picture perfect clear on this here

    hope this helps you bro.

  • Which version of disk cleaner to use with OS X 10.4.11 ?

    Hi,
I need to clean up my mac with a ccleaner or oryx disk utility.
all the versions i download do not work with my version of OS X 10.4.11.
Which software and version should i use then?
    Thanks in advance

You should never, EVER let a computer hard drive get completely full, EVER!
With Macs and OS X, you shouldn't let the hard drive get below 15 GBs or less of free data space.
If it does, it's time for some hard drive housecleaning.
DO NOT USE ANY "CLEANING" STYLE APPS!!!!!!!
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your Mac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto or Aperture, both have its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you store images in other locations other than iPhoto, then you will have to weed through these to determine what to archive and what to delete.
If you are an iMovie/ Final Cut user, both apps have their own individual Trash location that needs to be emptied, too!
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Look through your other Mailboxes and other Mail categories to see If there is other mail you can archive and/or delete.
STAY AWAY FROM DELETING ANY FILES FROM OS X SYSTEM FOLDER!
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Look in your Applications folder, if you have applications you haven't used in a long time, if the app doesn't have a dedicated uninstaller, then you can simply drag it into the OS X Trash icon. IF the application has an uninstaller app, then use it to completely delete the app from your Mac.
    To find other files try...
    Also, FindAnyFile
    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
    http://www.titanium.free.fr/downloadonyx.php
When you install and launch it, let it do its initial automatic tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the maintenance tabs that let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.

  • AP recommendation for use with Nortel POE switch

Okay, so the 1130AG apparently won't work with a Nortel 460-24T-PWR switch using POE.
I can't necessarily replace the switches, so I have to write off the AP and try another one.
What model APs will work with a Nortel 460-24T-PWR switch.
    Thanks.
    Rick

This seems confusing to me. We use the HP 2650-PWR, which is also 802.11af and it works fine. Have you tried disabling CDP on the ports you want to use with the AP?
