Which Kind of Report should be in BI system?

Dear Expert,
I faced the requirement to move R/3 reports onto the BI system. Most of them are customized reports which select data from a larget number of tables.
Determine First Date and Last Date of the selected period.
Read Material Master MARA and Material Plant MARC.
Read Sales Order Stock MSKA and Sales Order Stock History MSKAH.
Read Batch Stock MCHB and Batch Stock History MCHBH.
Read Consignment Stock MSKU and Consignment Stock History MSKUH.
Read material valuation from MBEW and material valuation history MBEWH.
Read Sales order stock valuation EBEW and Sales order stock history valuation EBEWH.
Read movement type classification (IN/OUT) from customer YZ table ZMM_MVT.
Read Stock Movement from Material Document Item MSEG and Material Document Header MKPF.
Read Incoming Invoice document Header RSEG and Incoming Invoice document Item RBKP of the corresponding material documents.
It's easy for the abaper to write this kind of report on the R/3 side, but I think (as a beginner) it's a nightmare for the BI consultant to develop a model to support this report (T_T). Is there any suggestion for this kind of report (apart from converting the report program in R/3 into the extractor program and mapping it to the infoset and datasource)?
Besides, I'm still not sure which kind of report should be moved onto the BI system and which kind of them should be still in the R/3 system. Can anyone provide the criteria to decide whether this report should be in BI or not?

Hi,
I think what ever you have been asked is related to stocks quantity movement and valuation.
You have already got standard SAP extractors which pull records for the material valuation and movements and stocks.It contains information related to bacth stock movement ...and what ever you are asked for...if you are not able to get things here then only you go for generic data source.
You can use them and ask tell the user that they can have a snapshot of the R/3 if they want or they can see the daily stock movement based on the movement type or stock for a plant or stock level on daily basis....
See this link for inventroy management in BW and one point guide to set up the inventory scenarions in BW....try to explore the help link in BW for the related cubes you find in this document and business content queries based on them and by the time you have finshed reading it...you will have fair amouint of idea.

Search the forum for the cubes mantioned in the document and there will thousands of thread with all kind of questions.
Would not suggest to go with the generic data sources on tables if already data sources areavaialable...will be too tough top manage the delta nad consolidate the values in BW after extraction.
The rule is you should try to use the standard extractors as much as possible and go for generic data source only if no other option is left.

What i want is that , every time in the schedulling period the report should run in current system date only with a variant.

Yes possible by 2 ways.
I) This way you can use the current date dynamically
Go to your variants in change mode,
1. Check the box 'Selection Variable' for date.
2. Click on selection variables
3. Choose 'D' for dynamic date calc
4. Choose current date and save.
II)Default it in code
Default sy-datum for the selection variable.

Which Reports should be done in BI & which Reports in ECC/ABAP

We are implementing SAP ECC & BI in Laggard manner or near simultaneously. Now I as a BI consultant need to suggest which reports should be created in BI & which ones in ECC itself?
I understand that more aggregated, summarised or analytical sorts of reports, also those which need slice & dice & drilldown during navigation should be in BI.
But also apart from these points is there any thumb rules or fundas to decide??

It's look like your client first time using BI system, He might be aware or not aware of ECC.
It's happen mostly that when ECC & BI Immplemention happen simultiounsly, That time Client's as well as Project Management team concentration on ECC not on BW.
1) You check on which Functional Modules reports client is expecting.
2) Then check and install Standard Data flow and reports in your SandBox.
3) Then show thease reports of respective module to your Functional team so they also be understand what is possible in BW or not possible.
4) If your Functional team satisfy with the report's output. Then take training programe for user (Not everybody but few people from Client side). Once they understand how system is working then they will come with their requirement. There your job as Techo-Functional consultant "Can it is possible in BW side with respect to business logic?" there you are have decide.

Parameter form which generates a report in delimited format

Hello , I have a parameter form which calls a report in delimited format.
In the RUN_REPORT* (Function Body) in program units , I have made the following modifications :
SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(v_report_id,REPORT_DESFORMAT,'DELIMITED');
I get a report in txt format . The problem is that when I convert my txt file to excel , I get the label of each row which repeats the number of records found ! I should have the label appearing once followed by the data . What can I do to make that possible please ?
or if I have a simple query e.g SELECT * FROM BANKS to generate in txt format . Can I write some code in PL/SQL to write the results of such a query in txt format?

I think I got the solution !
I simply need to add the following in my run_report procedure :
SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(v_report_id,REPORT_DESFORMAT,'*DelimitedData*');
I get the actual title of each field(as it is in the database) displayed once followed by all records . It's not a perfect solution but I think it will do for now.

Which version of iPhoto should I use?

When I picked up my repaired MacBook (Intel Core Duo) the person at the Apple Store showed me how to restore all of its data using my Time Machine backup. He told me that during the repair they had installed Snow Leopard. He had forgotten that I had told him when the MacBook first died we were told it was not worth repairing and we purchased a new MacBook Pro running Lion. The TM backup was from that machine. The intent was to have two machines with the same Apps & data so each of two users could take either machine and go forward from that point. Each machine would then have its own TM Backup.
After many discussions with tech support, almost everything except iPhoto (and incoming Apple Mail) on the MacBook works OK. That's probably because during the restore, iPhoto 9.1.5 was installed. It does not open because of a Frameworks conflict of some sort. Earlier versions of iPhoto say the Library was created with a newer version. (I temporarily moved the iPhoto Library out of my User>Pictures Folder, opened iPhoto 7.x and imported some photo's to create a new Library. That worked. My original Library is 35 GB so each attempt to fix anything in it has been time consuming. That's why I'm asking the real experts.
I've seen a suggestion from Terrance Devlin to "rebuild" the Library using the iPhoto Library Manager and others by Terrance, Neil, Old Toad, and Kappy to drag a different version of Frameworks into System>Library>? (Apparently, some OS X 10.7 support files were loaded onto the MacBook.) Which ones and which version?
Which version of iPhoto should I use on the MacBook? Which version does OS X 10.6.8 support? Eventually, we'd also like to merge some of the individual Libraries into a shared Library. Is iPhoto Library Manager the best way to do that? (Speaking of that, I understand Apple does not support backup of non-Lion Mac's via Wi-Fi, except if using Time Capsule. Seagate sells an external 2 TB Hard Drive that connects via ethernet to your Router, for that purpose. Does it work well?)

Below is a copy of the Problem Report I get after I double click the iPhoto (9.1.5) icon in my Applications folder. Both iPhoto 6 and iPhoto 7 open but cannot read my iPhoto Library that was restored from a Lion TM backup. I tried moving my iPhoto Library out of the Pictures folder and was able to create a new one using iPhoto 7.1.5.
Inside of System>Library, there are two copies of the following folders:
Frameworks
PodcastProducer
Keychains
Java
In each case, the name of the second folder includes "(from old Mac)" without the quotes after the folder name. I believe my issue is being caused by the System using Frameworks instead of Frameworks (from old Mac), but I have not been able to switch them easily and, as you said, do not want to do serious damage.
The only other thing that does not work properly is incoming IMAP mail via AOL and Google. Outgoing works on those two plus Incoming and Outgoing work on the Verizon POP account.

Apex IR how to know which default alternative report was selected

I'm using apex 4.1 and create a page with Interactive report with one default primary report and several default alternative report. when i selected one alternative report, how do i know which one is i picked up? it looks obvious to the user but my point is when the user switches to another page, or there are something should change based on the selected report, i want the user see the new page with-in the context of what have selected for that IR report. for example, i have a "summary" report based on year, so the alternative report will be year-2011, year-2012, etc, when user selected this year, 2012, on the same IR page, there is another report based on year 2012, when user selected 2011, that report should show 2011 report. is there anyway to do this? thanks in advance!

From your description, it seems that the message flow is as follows:
ECC -> Sender proxy -> PI -> <unknown> Receiver adapter -> Legacy
Run the scenario and use transaction sxmb_moni in ECC and PI to monitor the message. You will see the names of the Repository configuration objects here (Sender/Receiver Service, Name, Namespace etc).
You can use the monitoring tools of the Runtime Workbench to track the message and find out what adapter is being used. Here you can use the Message Monitoring to track the message ID, check the Audit Log where you should be able to see the name of the adapter that is being used.

Windows Vista Home Premium (64-bit) is slow. Which start-up services should run?

I recently had to use system restore and make a few changes to get my system running again. Ooops. I now have a very slow computer whereas it was working fine before. I haven't recently installed any new software or hardware and suspect that some essential start-up services may have been disabled, stopped or set to manual while some other unused services may have been set to start, automatic or automatic (delayed).
Can someone please direct me to another thread (if available) or list which start-up services should be in which state?

I don't have an IQ818 at the moment, all I have is an IQ506T - from last fall. I had just done a recovery of it.
Note: 1) I did choose to NOT perform automatic updates, 2) I haven't yet configured Norton, and 3) I haven't turned off TouchSmart from running in the background.
This isn't exactly your system, but it would be somewhat close. Your safest bet would be to recover and start over, but here goes with the services listings. Please note its comma delimited - you can look at it better with something like Excel, Works or Open Office.

Which kind of cache group is suitable for the intensive insertion operation

Hi Chris,sorry for call you directly. Because you give me many good answers about my many newbile questions these days:)
You told me that the dynamic cache group is not suitable for the intensive insertion operation
because each INSERT to a child table has to perform an existence check against Oracle even if load the cache group into RAM manually(Please correct me if wrong).
Here I have many log tables that they only have a primary key and no foreign references and they are basically used to reflect changes from the related main tables.
Every insert/update/delete on the main table will insert a log record in the related logging table(No direct foreign references).
In order to cache these log tables, I have to create a independent cache group for each one, right?
I do not want load these logs data into RAM because my application do not use them or these logs will waste my RAM clearly.
so here comes my question.Which kind of cache group should I use to gain the best performance with no loading them into RAM?
As my understand,the dynamic cache group load data on demand while the regular cache group need load all the data into RAM firstly and it won't load data from oracle anymore?

Let me be more specific. Consider this cache group:

INSERTS into TPARENT will not do any existence check in Oracle. An INSERT INTO TCHILD has to verify that the corresponding parent row exists. If the parent row exists in TimesTen then no check is doen in Oracle. If the parent row does not exist in TimesTen then we have to check if it exists in Oracle and if it does we will load it into TimesTen from Oracle (along with any other child rows) before completing the INSERT in TimesTen. So in the case where the parent always exists already in TimesTen there is no overhead but on the other case there is a lot of overhead.
If your log table is truly not related to the main table (not in TT and not in Oracle either) then they should go into separate cache groups. If each insert into the log table has a unique key and there is no possibility of duplicates then you do not need to load anything into RAM. You can start with an empty table and just insert into it (since each insert is unique). Of course, if you just keep inserting you will eventually fuill up the memory in TimesTen. So, you need a mechanism to 'purge' no longer needed rows from TimesTen (they will still exist in Oracle of course). There are really two options; investigate TimesTen auotmatic aging (see documentation) - thsi may be adeuate of the insert rate is not too high - or implement a custom purge mechanism using UNLOAD CACHE GROUP (see documentation).

Which kind of roles are visible

Hello together,
I have installed a BO 4.0 enterprise server. Now I want import the roles for the sap authentication.
I can see round about 100 roles, but that are not all roles which are available in the source system.
My question is which kind of roles are visible?

my crystal user has SAP_ALL rights (only for testing), if I understood you correctly now I should see all existing roles in the SAP also in the CMC for roleimport.
Is this correct? Because I see also only 100 roles, but in the SAP are more than 1000 roles.
