Which Linux is prefered by Oracle (Express)? Is there any?

Hi,
I own a small business and want to use Oracle Express as my database on Lunix (probably on a Pentium Machine).
After we grow, we may go on for a server like machine with Oracle standard edition.
Main question is, is there any Linux which is recommended or prefered by Oracle?
When I look in the space, there are plenty of flavours like Red-Hat, Suse, Fedora, Debian, Mandrak etc etc. I am pretty confused with this and currently trying to understand the differences in them.
But as far as Oracle Express or Oracle in general, is there any flavour which should be prefered over the others?

Best depends on which ever one works for 'you'. In other words, is the organization prepared to spend money ensuring that the Database administrators and System administrators are truly and properly trained and prepared on the chosen operating system[s]?
If not, the people and the organization are simply blowing hot air.
If you want to see from Oracle perspective, then they
are brining everything first on Linux right from new
Version to any new Patchset. Solaris and HP
Release/Patches are coming next in the line and then
comes the AIX and finally windows.
Actually, I note there are a number of different definitions for 'first'. It seems to me that Oracle releases as follows
- Linux ... first platform to be released (and only in 32 bit)
- Solaris ... first 64-bit platform to be released
- Windows ... first Microsoft platform to be released>
In reality, does it matter that patches come out first on Linux? Most of my customers will wait at least 2 weeks before applying ANY patch (OS, Oracle, whatever) simply to let other people test the patch in production. <g>

I have recently switched from a PC to a MacBook Pro.
I have a large number of documents and photographs on a multiterrabite external drive, backed up on a second multiterrabite external drive.
Both external drives are formatted for MacIntosh. This has been verified by agents at an Apple store and also at Best Buy in two different cities.
This is the problem:
The MacBook Pro will not allow me to cut-and-paste to and from or to click-and-drag to the external drive. I can copy-and-paste, but then I must send the original to the trash, which doubles the time and effort. Is there any way to cut-and-paste?
Also, the MacBook Pro will not allow me to rename multiple documents or photographs. I can click-and-rename a single one, but this is impossibly time consuming. I can batch-rename in iPhoto, but when I transfer the photographs to the external drive, the rename does not transfer.
I’m reduced to using my wife’s Toshiba to cut-and-past, rename, and transfer documents. It works perfectly. Is there any way to do this on the MacBook Pro?

No, this is a philosophical difference between Apple and Microsoft. Apple believes that it's dangerous to cut a file in case the user never pastes it; in that case the file is lost. Microsoft seems to not have this problem (if I remember Windows correctly) because they don't delete the originating file if it's cut but never pasted.
Even though Macs have a lot of keyboard shortcuts, philosophically Macs have traditionally been mouse-first. This applies to file copy operations. In your case, what a Mac user would do is open the source window, open the destination window (on your second drive), and then Command-drag the selected files from the source to destination window. This is because a normal drag would leave the originals behind, while adding the Command modifier key tells OS X that this is a Move, not a Copy, so don't leave the originals behind.
(In addition there are different rules for drag-copying within the same volume or between different volumes. If you drag between two folders on the same volume, the files are moved. If you drag between different volumes, the files are copied unless you hold down Command to delete the copies on the source volume.)

Two problems in this case. First, batch file renaming is not built into OS X unless you build something with Automator. However, there are many utilities that can do batch file renaming which you can find at macupdate.com or on the App Store. Since I work with media I often batch rename using one of the media managers I have lying around like Media Pro or Adobe Bridge (comes with Photoshop).
iPhoto is a database front end designed to shield the file system from the consumer and let them concentrate on creativity and sharing. As such it is often a poor choice for managing files directly. When you "transferred the photographs" chances are you moved the originals, not the ones iPhoto edited which are stored in a hidden folder.

There will not be a way to do it exactly like Windows. As described above, there are ways to do it "the Mac way." If it is possible to remove judgment on which way is "better" you might find the Mac way to be acceptable, but of course sometimes we simply prefer what we're used to.

iWeb cannot import published files so you would need rebuild the site.
Yahoo hosting is notoriously poor and their tech support is awful. I would suggest you look for new hosting and start afresh. Some pointers for choosing hosting...

- Be aware that if you can/do update the iOS to the latest (4.2.1 for a 2G and 4.3.4 for a 3G) you may not be able to sync to the old computer since that computer will need the latest iTunes to see/sync with the update iPod. Yo need an Max with at least OSX 10.5.8.

sure pretty simple. make a backup of your current settings

then import pics to computer

I want to know as it possibly relates to other security issues I've had of late and it would help further my investigation. Would a subject access request possibly allow me to recieve this information? As far as I know there's no way to see a list of when and where I sign in using my Apple ID?

Sorry but no, Apple cannot give you that information. The only way they could give anyone such an IP address would be if they received a court order to do so, if even then; I don't know what sort of tracking and logs they do.
However, if this email claimed that someone had tried to reset your password and in any way gave you a link to click to confirm your account information, the email was almost certainly a phish. Such phishing messages have been quite common over the last two or three weeks and should be deleted without responding. You may wish to manually type in the URL for Apple's page for managing an Apple ID and change your password, just as a precaution, and make sure you've set good security questions using responses that can't just be looked up for you (they don't have to be real information; you can use any response you wish as long as you can remember what you entered).

The Read from Clipboard method is, unfortunately, limited to text. If the clipboard contains an image then you need to use OS-specific functions calls. This is an example program for Windows. It's old, but it should still work.

I have a 2nd gen airport extreme (no time capsule) and 2nd gen airport expresses: is there any new additons I can make to my existing network to improve reach and integrity of signal?

I have the older airport extreme and 2 2nd gen airport expresses in a large house. Lately I have been getting complaints about internet "drop out" and weak signal (orange signal - weak network) in one (oddly enough the nearest one to my extreme). What can I do to insure network and internet integrity going forward. Do I buy a new a. extreme and convert the old one (how is also a question)? Do I buy new expresses? (and why) Do I move the original express out of room and get longer internet cable? Extreme is upstairs in a split level and must remain there because of proximity to modem and its connection to security. The "working" express is all the way on the other side of the house through 2 concrete walls and does ok - though signal is understandable week. The nearer one with the "problems" is at the foot of the stairs less than 50 feet away, behind an always closed door (not tested-belongs to teenager voicing complaints). Incidentally the other bedroom directly across from the closed door one, houses a temporary adult child at home who has no problems with their lap top (2nd gen macbook) and signal.

There is no easy answer to your question, but here are some things to think about.
The newest generation of airport extremes and expresses are dual-band devices. they transmit on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies. the 2.4 GHz frequency penetrates walls better than the 5 GHz frequency which is faster in terms of data throughput. they also have improved antennas which may help your signal problems. unfortunately the only way to be sure would be trial and error you can also walk around with a laptop and monitor the signal strength to see where you have dropouts and consider repositioning your express devices to compensate .

Oracle 9i - Is there any way to trace the amount of rollback statements ?

we're running Oracle 9.2.0.5.0 and we would need to monitor the amount of rollback statements executed on a specific table.
Turning on traces for "set events '10046 trace name context forever, level 1'" would be too much invasive given the current load of the system so that was wondering if there was any quicker way to do that.

We have a few huge tables which we need to monitor in terms of activities so that we're using triggers to update some oracle sequences keeping track of the action performed on them.
basically the trigger only increase the sequence value.

So that each time the xxx_Status is updated we have an updated sequence (nocache) which allows us to get the overall distribution without a long scan on the table (hosting more than 200M records).
I know triggers are not the best way to approach, not to mention they fire before a commit, so that in case of a rollback the resulting sequence would be showing a wrong value.
But this was only a quick and dirt approach, which works fine for the time being. I just wanted to confirm the inconsistencies we are encountering are due to some rollbacks which mislead the trigger, that's why I was interested in getting a stat on the rollback statement execution.
We get discrepancies every now and then, so that leaving traces on for a long time may be disruptive.

Screen sharing setup in 10.5, 10.6 are described by the links by operating system. 10.7 is fairly similar to 10.6.
And if both Macs have Firewire, you can setup a Firewire over IP network for fast communication between machines. Note if you have two different Firewire ports a 6 pin to 9 pin Firewire cable does exist. There are no Firewire to USB cables.

i have to club cost and Qty of two tables(four measures) as two measures in the UI report. There are more columns in these tables that restrict the UNION of the tables.(for the sake
of understanding , i have not mentioned the othr columns). In the UI report(Execl 2013-power pivot) iam plotting these measures against the
Table C.Typeid. Hence the measures drill down against each
Table C. Typeid as shown below:

My requirement is to club these measures so that the report will be as below

Since i cannot club these in model,as a work around, i created a calculated measure in excel(Analyze tab->Calculations->olap tools->calculated measure) with the condition as below:
new cost = IIF (ISEMPTY(TableA.cost)="TRUE",TableB.cost,TableA.cost)
new Qty = IIF(ISEMPTY(TableA.Qty)="TRUE",TableB.Qty,TableA.Qty) and dragged these new measures into the report. It was working fine as expected.
But this functionality of Creating calculatedmeasure in excel report is possible only in 2013 excel version.
Now the requirement is to get the same result in 2010 excel. Can you please help me in implementing the same in 2010 excel? or any other alternative method to bring the columns in model itself. I tried to create a measure in table A with DAX expression as
: new cost :=CALCULATE(SUM(Table B.cost),ISBLANK(TableA.cost)) -> but this will return only 1 result .i need Sum(Table A.cost) also if it is not blank.

You can use SUMX ( 'Table A', 'Table A'[Cost] + 'Table B'[cost] )
However, if you install the latest version of Power Pivot in Excel 2010, it supports the ISEMPTY function, too.
