Which Logic Express Preference File to delete?

In my user/library/preferences there are 2 instances of logic preferences.
One resides in the u/l/p folder, and the other lives in its own Logic folder within the u/l/p folder.
Which one contains useful info like keyboard shortcuts, and which contains info about Logics internal workings?
If Logic were to start acting strangely, which preferences should I trash?
Cheers
A

The file in preferences (com.apple.logic.pro or express.plist) contains all the resources/library/loops/instrument etc. locations. You can read this file in a text editor.
The file in ~/Library/preferences/Logic (com.apple.logic.pro or express) is the one containing your key commands. You can move this out of its folder, to your desktop for example, and rebuild your preferences. From this file, you can import your key commands.
You could trash both of them, but you'll lose all your settings. In extreme cases of corruption, this might be a good idea, but if you have an extensive KC setup, you probably want to try importing them into a newly created prefs file within the Logic folder, by using the import command in key commands window (which I assume is also available in Express).

  • Logic express & pro file diffrences

im sure that its possible to open LE files into LP but is it also possible backwards? (open logic pro files in logic express)?

    Yes, it should be possible.
But be warned that Logic might not find all the plugins needed, so you'll have to replace them with substitutes of lower quality. Example Space Designer -> Platinum Verb. Or EVB3 -> EVB.

  • Garageband and Logic Express duplicate files

    Hey,
I've been using Garageband 3 and am interested in upgrading to logic express 7 series. Are any of the loops, sounds, amps, software instruments, etc that are in garageband also in logic express. I guess what i'm saying is it worth the money to upgrade or will I be getting the same sounds and amps and things in I already have in garageband with some extra features and the ability to record in 24 bit. Does logic express have many more sounds, filters, software instruments, samplers than does garageband.thanks

Hi when you upgrade to LE7 you have 4 gigs of sounds that are not in GB
plus you have the option of installing GB sounds but if you already have them on your computer then Logic will recognize them

  • "Date and Time" freezes System Preferences - file to delete?

Well, I've had her up and running for about eight hours now and only one problem... just checking all the settings in System Preferences and when I select "Date & Time" System Preferences stops responding.
I migrated my 12" PB so there may have been a hinky file there - repairing permissions does nothing. Any .plist I might delete? The date and time are correct, by the way although, during set-up, the time & date pane just whizzed by, not giving me a chance to select.
    Any thoughts, system wizards?

I have experienced the same problem. You can try deleting the /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist, but that may not help. Be sure you have no menubar items running such as MenuMeters, iClock, etc. You might also try booting from the Installer Disc and running Disk Utility to repair the hard drive and permissions. Then do a shutdown for about five minutes before restarting. Upon restart clear PRAM by pressing and holding down the OPTION-COMMAND-P-R keys immediately after the chime and continue to hold them until you hear the restart chime another four times, then release and allow normal startup.
Migrating from a PowerPC Mac can be problematic because of the possibility of getting third-party plug-ins, preference panes, menubar modifiers, etc. that can potentially cause problems.

  • How do you change your song made on Logic Express(Iso. file) into MP3 file?

I've been meaning to put a song on a c.d or just to transfer it to other people, and it is required to be an MP3 file. Does anybody know how to change the original file of the song (Iso.) into an MP3 file?

Ahhh, an easy one even I can handle. This is what is refered to in Logic-speak as a bounce (I would think export would be a better term). In the old days bouncing meant rerecording and premixing several tracks into another to free up more of a limited total number of tracks. How quaint! I remember those days, during the Lincoln administration if I recall correctly. Enough levity. Assuming that your mix is to your liking, go to the file menu and select bounce. You have a couple of choices in the dialog window, select mp3 for the destination choice. Also make sure your start and end postions are appropriate and select a save as title for your mp3 such as RTFM (just kidding). The realtime bounce mode allows you to listen to the mix as it's being exported to mp3 format. Once this is done you can find your new mp3 by selecting music in any finder window, and then logic>bounces. Another way to bounce is easily available from the mixer or arrange window on your output channel strip. There's a little "button" marked Bnce which opens up the bounce dialog box as well. I initially thought it was the Beyonce button but the manual cleared that up. Good luck with your mixdowns!

  • Deleting plug ins + Logic Express

Hi I have recently bought Logic 8 studio and dont need logic express 7. i cant seem to delete the entire program. does anyone know how to completely wipe Logic express 7 from the system drive?
also im using Toontrack's DFH Superior drum sample plug in. i dont need this anymore and would like to uninstall this too. how do you unistall audio plug ins on a mac?
    cheers

Josh since I've never used Logic I really can't say. I did however find this:
Another approach you might consider is reinstalling Logic Express. To do this effectively, you need to remove the application and its receipts, then install Logic Express and use Software Update to install additional updates. You don't have to remove everything that was installed with Logic Express. Follow the steps below to completely reinstall a fresh copy of Logic Express. Note: Make sure that you have your installation discs and serial number handy before starting this.
    Open the Applications folder.
Drag the Logic Express application to the Trash.
    Go to /Library/Receipts.
In the Receipts folder, select the "Logic Express.pkg" file.
Choose View > as List to view the contents in a list.
Click the Date Modified column header so you can easily see all of the receipts that were installed at the same time as Logic Express.
Drag the Logic Express.pkg receipt to the Trash, as well as any other items that have the same modification date within 3 minutes of the Logic Express.pkg's modification date.
Click the Name column header to sort the list alphabetically.
Drag any other receipts whose names begin with "Logic Express" to the Trash.
Insert your Logic Express installation disc and install Logic Express.
When finished, use Software Update (under the Apple menu) to update your software to the latest version.
It concerns removing Logic Express and reinstalling as a troubleshooting measure. However I would assume you could use it as a guide in just plain uninstalling.

  • PLease help me with the best product to buy, Logic Express, which one?

    Hi,
I have a macbook pro snow leopard 10.6.4 with garageband 09. I need a very simple to use editing and mastering program and wondered if the logic express would be best suited to my needs. If so, Then WHICH logic express is the easiest to learn that is compatible with my computer an with garageband 09?
I am not an engineer, so I need something user friendly, and self help along the way. Any suggestions on what to purchase would be great, and money IS a factor. If the logic express program would be best, does it have to be an '09 program?
So, What would be the best program for a beginner who needs good results? It seems with some of what i have read that some of these programs replace the garageband? I like garageband.
    Help?!
    Heidi995

I upgraded from GB to LE8 a few months ago and whilst there is a steeper learning curve it is much better, you won't regret it. If you're wanting to just do simple editing then LE 8 & 9 are pretty similar (i picked up LE8 very cheaply on ebay then decided to upgrade to 9 once I'd got my head around it to take advantage of flextime editing & the drum replacer). You'll find all the things you do in GB much easier, quicker, & more effective in Logic once you've learned how to use it. Both 8 or 9 are great for the relative lack of outlay, just depends how much money you want to spend is my advice.

  • Can't start Photoshop without deleting preferences file

    Hi gang,
I have a Macbook Pro running Lion, OS X 10.7 that I purchased two months ago so it's relatively new. Just bought Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended and installed it on the computer a day ago. Software will not operate unless I hold option+command+shift when starting so that the preferences file is deleted. I'm hoping someone knows how to help me reset things.
I suspect that the problem stems from a plugin that I deposited into the plugins folder, because the software was working at first. I didn't piece this together until after the fact, but once I fired up the software a couple times after installing it, it worked fine each time. I noodled around and checked some things out to see what's new in CS5, then I went ahead and deposited a favorite plugin into the plugins folder. Things stopped working after this. Not positive the plugin is related, but thought I should mention it.
I removed the plugin of course, to no avail. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the software three times. No difference. When I open the software without deleting the prefs file, it's just buggy and non-responsive. Can't start a new project, and thing just end up crashing every time. The software is useless without deleting the prefs file when firing it up.
Is there any hope of restoring things to normal? Thanks very much!

    Boilerplate-text:
Are Photoshop and OS fully updated?
As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems you might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed) by keeping command-alt-shift pressed on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.
System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, cleaning caches, etc.) might also be beneficial, Onyx has been recommended for such tasks.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/onyx.html
Weeding out bad fonts never seems to be a bad idea, either. (Validate your fonts in Font Book and remove the bad ones.)
If 3rd party plug-ins are installed try disabling them to verify if one of those may be responsible for the problem.

  • Logic Express does not show the waveform of the audio after recording

This week, Logic stopped showing the waveform in track.
At the time of recording the wave is usually draws but as soon as I stop is theonly track in a straight line as if no audio recorded, the audio is usually recorded, you can apply effects and plug-ins but it is impossible to edit.
Sorry for any errors in the text, I am Brazilian and I'm using google translator.
    Thank you!

after hours of searching I think I found the solution in a post 2010. I do not know for how long, but now it's all working
    credits for Foxboy71
you won't find the .plist files via spotlight - they are excluded from search,
    go to (user)/library/preferences/
there you'll find the files named com.apple.Logic Express (xyz whatever).plist
delete them. Logic will rebuild them from scratch.

  • Error message when I open Logic Express 7

    Hi!
When I opened Logic Express 7 today, I got an error message, telling me that Logic had problem with the file com.apple.logic.express.cs.
I then searced the net and found out that the problem could be solved if I deleted that file, so I tried that (I didn´t deleted it, but just removed it to the trash, so I could replace it back if Logic wasn´t fixed with the file removed). And Logic was still not working. No sound when I tried to play back my songs or when I tried to play with the audio instruments. So now I have just replaced back the com.apple.logic.express.cs file, since that did not seemed to be the problem.
I also tried to remove the com.apple.logic.SetUpAssistant.standard.plst file, but that did not seem to help either.
Have anyone here experienced the same problem?
PS. Why is the solution to remove those files to get it work, when they are ment to be there in the first place?

  • $5 Starbucks card to first successful answer: how to import midi timecode into Logic Express 9 from Roland VS-880 or Ensoniq ASR-10

I will literally mail a $5 Starbucks card or gift $5 via paypal to the first person whose response gets me success.  Then after all responses are provided and I'm successful with my issue, I'll also raffle off $5 to one of ALL respondents by random pick.
    Problem/question:
I can't figure out how to import midi timecode data from either an Ensoniq ASR-10 or Roland VS-880 Vxpanded into Logic Express 9, so I can then use Logic Express 9 as the master.  No manuals seem to explain that; I just can't find it.
    Background/basics:
    1.  My ultimate goal will be to move all midi data from the Ensoniq ASR-10 floppies and all digital audio files from the VS-880 into Logic Express 9.  Once the midi timing is imported into a Logic Express 9 file, I'll import the data from the Ensoniq & Roland via steps 2a & 2b below.
1a.  Ten years ago I somehow (am in the process of re-learning what I did 10 years ago) imported the midi timing into the Roland VS-880 Vxpanded from the ASR-10, and then used the VS-880 as the Master to control the ASR-10.   So my current status is that I use the Roland VS-880 as the master, and the Ensoniq ASR-10 as the slave.
    2.  FYI for anyone who might be in the same boat, wanting to transfer stuff from an Ensoniq ASR-10 and Roland VS-880 to the computer:
2a.  I will import all midi sequence data from my ASR-10 floppy disks via a utility purchased here, which will all a PC to read Ensoniq-formatted disks, and then just hopefully cut/paste midi files into Logic Express 9 (FYI only):  www.chickensys.com
2b.  Then will import all the individual WAV files from my Roland VS-880 to Logic Express 9 using a method learned here (FYI only): http://www.vsplanet.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=985974&PHP SESSID=b1d2f57be4a1d37d49787400213b22df
2c.  I'll then combine them all into Logic Express 9.
So - how the heck do I capture/import the midi timecode into Logic from either the roland or ensoniq using midi?
I'm don't think that cutting/pasting the midi data into a Logic Express 9 sequence file (step 2a above) will do that, because there are all kinds of tempo & time signature changes in the midi files unfortunately.
    THANK YOU and Merry Christmas!!
    Andy

OK doesn't look possible.  Closing discussion.

  • Chopping In Logic Express 9?

Is this possible? I saw a tutorial on "chopping" in Logic on Youtube, not sure which version the person had but when I tried the procedure, it didn't work for me!
He explained that the backslash \ is whats used but like i said, when I when I tried it, it was a no go. All I got was the apple error sound "blomp, blomp" lol!

You need to check your Key Commands window to see if that function is assigned to the \ key (it may not be by default).
Logic Express > Preferences > Key Commands - search for 'Split regions/events at playhead'. If you need to assign it yourself, select the key command entry and hit the 'Learn by Key Label' button, press the \ key and then hit the 'Learn by Key Label' button again to de-activate it.

  • Opening logic pro songs in logic express

    both versions running 7.2
logic express said "file either damaged or not logic express song"
is there a way around this, like saving in a different format or something?
    Thanks!

I'll take a crack at it.
I'm not 100% certain, but I don't think that LE can open LP song files. If I'm right, then the only thing to do would be to bounce each track and import them into an LE project....but why would you want to drive a VW Beetle when you have a Porsche 911?
