How would I know which Luma/Chroma mode to use with the Broadcast Safe filter? I'm creating a DVD of a dance concert that might make it onto television but there are no specific plans at this time.

As you read their tech specs, you'll see that broadcast standards cover a lot more than just luma levels.

Ultimately, use the power adapter that came with the iPad. But you should use any USB based power adapter that has a 10 watt/ 2 amp or higher power rating. Look close when buying a thrid party adapter, if it does not specify 10 watts/2 amps it is a lower 5 watt/1 amp charger that will not work.

Broadcast safe filter settings

Hello,
I applied the broadcast safe filter to a PNG file (logo) that has excessive whites. However, when I switch - what I believed were presets (130 / 120 / 115 / etc.) nothing changes and nothing happens at all actually!
The only thing that seems to do anything is when I dial the Max RGB Output level switch...

The values will not swith. The top button 'Luma Chroma Mode' swithes between
• 'CUSTOM - User Control Below' Which will let YOU control the sliders
• one of the presets (Conservative, Extremely conservative, etc) Then the plugin will use PRESET settings. It won't have a look at the sliders (iow, you cannot tweak a preset). Nor will it update the value of the sliders.
The language the plugin is written in (FxScript), just doesn't provide feedback to the sliders.
So it's either using one of the presets OR select CUSTOM and play with the sliders

Broadcast safe filter for DVD - or no need?

I'm getting a bit confused here and hoping someone can help here
I shoot with an EX camera and generally edit in 720 50p prores. My output is currently SD DVD and web.
Do I need to put a broadcast safe filter on or will the process of turning it into a dvd automatically clamp the levels for me.
I notice when using Colorista 2 the RGB levels are clamped at 100%.
If I were to use the FCP RGB limit filter would I achieve the same result
(I don't always like the broadcast safe filter as it gradually reduces the luma - Hard cut off is fine)
I think most people will watch my dvds on new HD LCDs or Plasmas. So I'm not too concerned about old CRTs.
Any thoughts or advice

The company I go to for mastering suggests the RGB limit filter for dodgy shots and not the "broadcast safe" one, and I listen to them. By the way, I've been going there for years here in LA and Greg, the boss, will always "work with you" on price if you are an independent. I can give you the phone number if you wish. They are very helpful but I think it's kind of against the rules to give the appearance of advertising on this site.

Broadcast safe filter problems... help

Hi so I have been up all night trying to work out how to keep my luma and chroma levels in CS6 within broadcast safe for a TVC.
At first all looks fine, apply a broadcast safe filter and presto waveform drops to within safe levels,...but once you render... back to square one.
See screenshot below, broadcast safe filter applied but waveform monitor still gives me above legal levels of 100 IRE???
Any idea's? This needs to be on air this week!

Right now I'm exporting footage using the broadcast filter applied to an adjustment layer. So, while all the tracks below have their own effects, I placed an adjustment layer over the top over everything (track 5 as it happens) and applied the broadcast safe filter to that.
I have no idea what order thiswill get applied, but it's probably worth trying and see if it helps....
It's one way of making the entire show broadcast safe without having to apply it to every clip individualy.

Yes, it is acceptable, AFTER you have done extensive work with the 3-way CC to adjust things, if there are still spots that are too hot to add teh Broadcast Safe filter. It clamps down the hot spots.
Just as long as you color correct first. We are sticklers for that here.

Should broadcast safe filter be applied before a video transition

A documentary filmmaker who is a client of mine said her video has a tendency to look ragged and not smooth when she applies the broadcast safe filter to a timeline clip that already contains a video transition. She asks whether she should apply the broadcast filter before she applies any transition.

Why not use the 3 way Color Corrector and the scopes first?

As a starting point, try doing a web search for iPad midi. You will get a better idea what is available, and can then ask more specific questions here.
I do not know if any can use the Camera Connection Kit, but there may be some that connect via Bluetooth.

It seems like each time I get a Firefox update (the latest being 5.0), it disables the virus protection software. I'm currently using McAfee SiteAdvisor and Rapport, which program would you suggest using with Firefox for virus protection?

I have just bought a new N95, and bought a memory sd card- transcend 2 GB, It works just fine to save music on it, but the camera doesn't work when the memorycard is in the slot..what is wrong? does it have to be a specific kind of memory card? How do I format it?

HT3131 can i turn my computer on and off in clamshell mode will useing with a thurderbolt display?

I have an early 2011 mackbook pro 17inch and love using it in clamshell mode with my thunderbolt display. Is there a way to turn power on and off with a thunderbolt display?

I have my Power Nap enabled but my sleep is still an option along with restart or shutdown when I click on the little Apple.
When I click sleep it puts everything to sleep as if turned off except it activates when I touch my keyboard and comes on again with everything up.
My external Lacie SSD does everything the same as the computer and monitors.
Except it shuts all the way off and on.
Not good I don't think.
If it's not good for internal SSD to be turned on and off, I expect it to be not good for external SSD either.

Which Mac to Buy for Use with Logic?

I'm currently looking to buy a new Mac and am torn between the iMac and Macbook Pro. iMac is definitely in my price range more than the Macbook.
I'm looking to do basic video editing and audio recording (15 tracks at most) most likely using an Apogee Duet as an audio in - mostly recording 1 or 2 tracks and adding more. I would be buying Logic.
Do you think the iMac would do the trick?

i would be you and if you can afford go for the macpro (2008 the 2009 seems to have some incompatilities cf. other thread). By experience allow yourself to have some margin, i mean more cpu power (one day you will maybe use heavy plugins or synth instruments from 3th party software) and this is killing the cpu. So more is always better. It takes me more than 6 months (start last year) to setup my macpro to a stable stage and now i am so happy it can runs without any big problem everything i want. (ex i use superior 2 as an internal synth instrument in Logic (not as standalone, to have the maximum control within logic, and i load it as multitrack instrument, it taxes 40 % of a single core - and because of synth instrument, only one core will function, and i can record without problem 2 guitarists (using GTR3.5), the drummer on a e-drum superior 2.0, a bassist with gtr3.5 and a vocal with buss reverb, in low latency mode - buffer 128- the cpu core reach about 80 %, without soft instrument than you have almost no limit cause all your core will be actifs, i mean recording just audio.).

Which mail client do I use with iCal server?

I will soon have os x server, and I want to use iCal server with mail. I want to schedule meetings, etc., like Exchange. However, many people have Outlook. Some have Entourage. Will these clients with with iCal for scheduling meetings and if not which client can I use? Thank you.

Which Platform are the clients?
Apple Mail does not work directly with iCal server. The Leopard version of iCal is what is used for scheduling. Mail is not like Outlook on PC or Entourage on the Mac where email, calendering and contacts are in one application. Leopard uses Mail, iCal, Address Book to provide similar functions.
