Which MAB 1.6GHz or 1.8GHz?

Hi all,
I would like some advice on the difference between the 1.6GHz and 1.8GHz MAB. I'm not very techie...but hope you can help. I will be using my MAB for emails, internet, basic photo uploading, not much editing, if any,not any movie editing or DTP...basically I'm buying it to replace my PBG4 (1GHz, 768MB DDR SDRAM) just to have a new funkie, sexier model...I know it sounds terrible (I'm sure there are more of you like me out there...(((-; ... no other reason really...i just love the look of the MAB...but if I'm gonna replace then I want to know if it's worth me investing in the 1.8GHZ...what it is the difference? Basically, do I NEED the 1.8GHz...I haver an external HD that I have all my data on anyway, like pics, music...backup.
Many thanks for any advice
Magz

I think the 1.8ghz, although with its clock more than 10% higher, isn't necessary.
The Macbook Air is a very snappier machine, but it won't be good for any cpu intensive jobs like video or audio editing. It's a machine mean for internet, office tasks and general entertainment (activities which occupies more than 90% of my time spent on a computer). So, to be honest, it won't make any difference.
Then again, you have a huge benefit for choosing a lower clocked cpu: less power consumption. It will lead you to more battery life, less heat, less noise from cpu fan, faster charging.
Even if the $ wouldn't be a problem, I would prefer a 1.6ghz with a SSD, for the best mobile experience so far on Apple machine.
You got to feel the joys of forgetting your power adapter at home and don't be afraid of doing so.

  • Query about Tech specs for purchasing new Macbook Pro

    HI,
    I have an 13-inch, Late 2011 Macbook Pro and all the details are as follows:
    Processor  2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory  4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
    Serial Number  C02HLMQRDV13
    Software  OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)
    I wanted to purchase 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display with the following specifications:
    2.6GHz Dual-core Intel Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz
    16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
    256GB PCIe-based Flash Storage
    Intel Iris Graphics
    But, I have following some very simple(and silly?) queries:
    1. Does my current Macbook Pro have only one core and the new one is dual-core i.e. two cores? Right?
    2. Memory in my current Macbook is 4 GB DDR3, but the new one says '16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM'. I believe SDRAM is pretty old. Is it that this SDRAM is based on DDR3 technology?
    3. Should I go for 8 GB or 16 GB? I usually have iTunes, 20-25 tabs on Safari, Terminal, Xcode/ Matlab, Microsoft Word/Powerpoint running in parallel on my Macbook. Would 8 GB RAM be enough for coming 3 years?
    4. How much useful is the jump in processor, say 2.6GHz to 2.8GHz?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for your quick response. I had a few follow up questions and it'd be great if you could answer them too:
    Your 2011 model has dual cores.
    So, essentially the only difference in processor from my current Macbook to new would be 2.4GHz to 2.6GHz, as both models have dual-cores.
    The only real difference in RAM between the two is that the Retina model comes with the RAM soldered onto the logic board, making it unable to be upgraded - oh and the new model ships with 1600MHz RAM rather than the 1333MHz shipped in the 2011 model.
    So, both the models - my current and the new one that I plan to buy - have RAM based on DDR3 technology. The difference is in the jump from 4GB to 16GB and 1333MHz to 1600MHz.
    8GB would probably be sufficient in the next couple of years; however, were I you, I would go ahead and order 16GB since you can never go back and put more RAM in as you could on the 2011 model.
    Yes, if the RAM comes soldered, I'd rather buy the 16GB version. Thanks for sharing that.
    Pretty significant - the actual speed doesn't tell the whole story. The new model also ships with a newer, faster, ore energy efficient processor.
    When you say that the new model ships with a newer, faster, energy efficient processor, which new model are your referring to?
    Also, Apple has Flash drives and not SSDs. How much is there a difference between the two? Is one better than the other?

  • Power Mac G5 Dual 1.8 Problems / Failed Logic Board?

    Okay, it seems that many other people are having problems with the Power Mac G5. All I can really say to Apple is that I love Macintosh and the Power Mac G5 has been the greatest computer I have ever owned. It seems that the logic board is the main issue for most people. Maybe Apple still needs to work out some bugs, but one thing for sure is that it would really be nice if there were no more produced like this and that everyone gets their problems solved without going through it again.
    Well, my G5 stopped working about a month ago. I've been really lonely and sad too... It started that the computer would randomly start, meaning that I would have to power it up and down several times until it randomly start. Other people have had these issues too. And after about 2 days of doing this it froze and now it refuses to start. I've done everything I possibly can without being a technician. I have two video cards and switching them dosen't help, my monitor works, and when I take out the ram there's no beeping. No power to keyboard or mouse, can't reset firmware, or reinstall OS or run hardware test. I reset PMU, but still no luck. I've tested both my Superdrive and Hard Drive. They both work. I have a friend with a G5 and I put my Hard Drive in and it booted up perfectly.
    Fans are functional, they speed up after about five minutes with no chime at start up. Which the chime is supposed to indicate a hardware failure. My only clues are the logic board and the processors, possibly the power board. Though it seems to be the logic board most of the time. The big thing is, does Apple know what's causing this to happen to Apple fans and costumers?
    I saw an earlier post with a guy who bought the same G5 a year and a half ago with three year warranty and had the logic board replaced-three times already!!!
    Unfortunately my G5 is out of warranty. I bought it from CompUSA and someone had boughten it and decided to return, unused still. They gave me a the 3-year warranty extension program, but I could never activate it. I've had the computer about a year and a half myself. I bought it early June last year June 2004. But this was right before the new line-up came out. So it's the November 2003 model. It's ecspecially depressing that a week or two later I could of gotten it for $500 dollars cheaper and a newer model. Not to also mention the beautiful new Apple Cinema Displays that match the G5. Though I doubt that Apple with have any sympathy for me for not waiting a little longer. I love my G5 and I just want to hear the chime and watch my 20" Apple ADC Display turn on. I don't live anywhere close the any Apple Stores to take it in for diagnostics.
    So I'm really in a tunnel of doom. I'm thinking of buying the logic board from mac-pro.com for $700. I heard Apple wants a $1000, but I don't know. Though driving it in to the Apple store isn't gonna be easy for me. Even so, I'm afraid of how costly it will be. I need to know what's defective and needs replacement more than anything. I only wish there was some way I could activate my 3-year warranty extension program. Well, I suppose that's really enough of my pitiful crying.
    Does Apple or anyone care to help me? I would be forever so happy if I could get my G5 working again. Thanks to anyone who'll attempt to help. You too Apple.

    Hey Everyone -
    Have you looked into the iMac G5 repair exstension Program for video and power issues? Posted on Apples website....The iMac G5 repair extension program for video and power issues applies to the first generation G5 computers that have video or power-related issues as a result of specific component failure. If your iMac G5 is exhibiting any of following symptoms: scrambled or discorted video, no video, no power, your computer may be leigible for repair, free of charge. This article was posted on October 21, 2005.
    My computer was freezing up, not booting up, locking on the blue page, static looking when trying to boot up, etc. I took it in to the Apple Store yesterday, and they will be replacing the board within the next 2 weeks. Although my have an extended warrenty, the replacement program is avaliable for certain first generation iMac G5 models that were sold between approximatrely September 2004 and June 2005 freaturing 17- and 20-inch displays with 1.6GHz and 1.8Ghz processors.
    If Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider determines that your iMac G5 computer is eligible as part of the program, the repair will be covered by Apple for up to two years from the original date of purchase even if your iMac G5 is out of warrenty. This is a worldwide Apple program.
    It's worth looking up the article, it list the serial number ranges that apply. Worth a look!

  • IMac without Airport/WiFi Card?

    Hi,
    I want to get an used iMac that *doesn't have* any Airport or WiFi card/possibilities and that could run the latest version of Mac OS 10.5 (I'd need it for music and photos storing purpose).
    So, what would be the most recent version of this iMac?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
    To get an iMac that doesn't have the possibility (i.e. option) of having an Airport card you have to look at a 350MHz or lower model. If you just want an iMac without an Airport (Extreme) card which will run Leopard (which, with respect, isn't necessary for playing music or storing photos) the look at these models:
    +iMac (Flat Panel) 17" 1GHz+ (these are G4 and USB1.1)
    +iMac (Flat Panel) (USB2.0)+ (these are 1.25GHz 17" and 20" or 1GHz 15" G4s)
    +iMac G5 17"+ (1.6GHz or 1.8GHz) or,
    +iMac G5 20"+ (1.8GHz)
    There are also eMacs that would meet your requirements. You do know that you don't have to use Airport!(?)
    kind regards

  • Powing down suddenly!

    Hi Guys,
    This is a bit of a strange one!
    Im running a G5 iMac, flat screen, with the latest updates for 10.4.
    Twice since this week my iMac suddenly powered down, almost as if you'd pulled the plug!
    Once this happened while I was actually working on it and again this morning, though this morning I had left it for about 30 mins and when I came back it was off!
    On both occasions it would power-up no problem!!!
    There are no scheduled shut downs in the prefs & I have not installed any new software recently barring the usual Apple updates- any Ideas?????

  • After shutdown iMac won't restart until you unplug & wait 10 minutes

    So I have an iMac G5 20" iSight, works perfectly, just one small problem. When you shut it down, you cant turn it back on until you unplug (the power cord) and wait 10 or so minutes, once you do that and plug it back in, it works great. as you probably can guess, when I have to restart for update its annoying. Any ideas? I have tried to reset the SMU by unplugging it plugging it back in and hold the power button, release and press the power button once. This doesn't seem to help. I have also checked my serial number for bad capacitor problem, but my model isn't affected. Thanks in advance.

    Dear Miriam,
    I just had a look at jimwarholic and it seems that my serial number is one of these;

    Is this really bad news? my friend Dave bought the computer (2004 I think) and then sold it to me because it was driving him mad, (he took it to apple and they told him "it was the video card on the motherboard -and to fix it would cost £500)
    I was hoping either they were lying or that they hadn't looked/diagnosed properly, but now I'm really not sure
    I would be most grateful of any advice/help
    thanks

  • Xserve G5 power supply ? problem

    Well I bought a dead G5 Xserve on eBay (yeah, I know). followed the "system completely dead…" check in the Xserve repair PDF. Battery was dead, replaced that and reset PMU, nothing. Checked for voltage across the power supply pins. The only reasonable way I could find to do this with the power supply installed was to remove the bracket that holds the retaining thumbscrew, this exposes the solder joints for the pins on top of the connector. Checked for voltage across pins 1 and 8 and came up with zero. Bought a used "working" power supply on eBay and installed that along with a new battery, reset the PMU, checked for voltage at my power cord, plugged it in and pushed the start button. Fans came on lights blinking away as there was no RAM installed. Shut it down. Boughtt a couple of gigs of RAM and installed that along with a video card from a B & W G3 yosemite tower that was confirmed by a couple of sources as a cheap way to get video out. All of this installing and removing following ESD precautions. Pushed the start button…nothing. Removed both the RAM and the card…nothing. Checked for voltage at those pins—nothing. Bought a new in box Apple repair kit with a power supply, fan array and PCI fan. Installed all three of those with a fresh battery, reset PMU, pushed the start button…wait for it…nothing. Checked the power supply pins, zip for voltage. These parts looked to be brand new, free of any dust or signs of human meddling. Now even if every other part of this machine was trash, I should still get some trickle power out of a good power supply—yes? Am I really missing the boat here? I have checked the front panel connections and that the button actually presses the switch. Checked the connectoion from the MLB to the interconnect board and they are all clean, sound connections. This thing is in imaculate condition, no corrosion of any kind on the logic board or anywhere else. It is the revised MLB with the 2Gig RAM printed on it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ted

  • When renaming an address book through properties, I can no longer see the new address book in my list. Where did it go?

    I have about 30 different address books. Some of them where old but i didn't want to delete them. I no longer wanted them at the top of my list so I went to properties and added "z-" to the folder name to have them at the bottom of the list. Now I can't see the address books that I renamed. What happened to them and how do I get them back?

    Make hidden files and folders visible:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Show_hidden_files_and_folders
    '''First locate all address book filenames in thunderbird.'''
    * In Thunderbird:
    * Help > Troubleshooting Information
    * click on 'show folder' button
    a new window opens.
    If you were going to alter anything you would need to close Thunderbird, but on this occasion you are just looking for information.
    * organise the list by 'Type'
    * look for all files that have MAB File type
    each file will have a .mab extension and these are the address books.
    Two address books are default address books called:
    abook.mab = Personal Address Book
    history.mab = Collected Addresses.
    Other addressbooks maybe called eg: abook-1.mab
    * Make a list of all the address book.mab filenames. Careful.. as spelling is important.
    '''Now to check what filename = what desciption in config editor'''
    * In thunderbird:
    * Tools > Options > Advanced > General tab
    * click on 'config Editor' button
    it will tell you to be careful :)
    now to locate info for each address book.
    '''How to search for each address book using info gained from checking the Profile folder.'''
    In top search type: abook.mab
    you should see this line:
    ldap_2.servers.pab.filename; abook.mab
    notice the 'pab' in ldap_2.servers.'''pab'''.filename
    In top search type: pab
    you will now be able to locate:
    * ldap_2.servers.pab.description; Value = Personal Address Book
    * ldap_2.servers.pab.dirType; Value = 2
    * ldap_2.servers.pab.filename; Value = abook.mab
    * ldap_2.servers.pab.position; Value = 2
    Using the above method will identify which .mab file in profile uses what info in config Editor.
    '''You can do this same method to check to see if the 'Z addressbook name' is in the list and which .mab file is assigned to that description.'''
    In top search type the name you assigned: Z addressbook name
    it should return a line:
    * ldap_2.servers.XXXX.description; Value = Z addressbook name
    make a note of the XXXX part in description
    In top search type: XXXX - whatever the actual description XXXX said to get the 'description', 'dirType', 'filename' and 'position'
    '''Please report back on results.'''
    Did you locate:
    eg: ldap_2.servers.XXXX.description; Value = Z addressbook name
    or was this still listed as old name without the Z part?
    Did you locate all of these 'description', 'dirType', 'filename' and 'position' for each of the missing address books?
    or were only some of these shown? Tell us what you found.
    Did you find that there were .mab files in Profile folder but they were missing in Config Editor or in Config Editor but not in Profile folder?
    Please state what was found. You can copy paste from the config editor.

  • IMac seems to randomly shut down

    This is very strange...my 2.0GHz iMac G5 (May 2005) appears to be randomly shutting down. I don't know much about the problem because it usually happens during the day when I am at school. I checked the Power Saver settings and I have it to never sleep, never shut down, etc.
    Any other possible causes for this problem? It's minor but frustrating. Thanks!

    Actually....I read the article a little more thoroughly....
    "The program is available for certain first generation iMac G5 models that were sold between approximately September 2004 and June 2005 featuring 17- and 20-inch displays with 1.6GHz and 1.8GHz G5 processors.

    QP435xxxxxx - QP522xxxxxx
    CK435xxxxxx - CK522xxxxxx
    YD435xxxxxx - YD522xxxxxx
    Some second generation iMac G5 computers have serial numbers that fall within the upper band of the ranges listed below. Only first generation iMac G5 computers are affected by this program."
    It seems my iMac is a second generation. Luckily, it's still under the one-year warranty. I'll have to look into this.

    Hello. Im currently trying to run hd flash content on my new pc in fullscreen but it stutters something terrible. It seems to run fine when not in fullscreen Mode. Why does my laptop which is only a shady 1.8ghz celeron M run hd content in fullscreen smoothly (albeit eating most of the cpu) and my new pc cant? Anyone got any suggestions?

  • Ultra Slow

    At first, my macbook speed was fast, it is my best notebook ever, but recently, I upgrade to leopard and install FCE4 and my macbook is only left with 50 gbs. What happen, do anyone suggest me to upgrade to macbook pro (trade in) as I am a big gamer and video editing guy. Actually I wanted to buy a macbook pro which is 2.6ghz, 4 gb ram, and has at least 512 VRAM and I want the cheapest one to have these spec, but apple only offer 17 inches one, which is quite expensive. <Edited by Moderator> (HKD plz)
    thanks

    Hi!
    If you are editing videos and gaming a lot then a macbook pro would be a much wiser choice. But as for speculating on apple's future endeavors in hardware, that would be violating the terms and conditions of the forum seen here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa
    Especially if you are using FCE and any video editing applications would greatly benefit from the dedicated graphics card and vram. Since the macbook shares ram to power graphics its performance drags when it comes to video and graphics work.
    Hope that helps!

  • HD Import Problems

    I recently purchased a Canon HV 20 HD Camcorder. Picture quality and playback from the camera is excellent. However I have had a few problems following import of HD footage to my computer with IMovie 06 HD. Most of the footage is fine, however a few scenes get very choppy and do not run smoothly (compared to direct playback from the camera). Also some scenes have distorted sound, it sounds like the speech is lowed down. I have all the latest updates installed for IMovie.
    Anyone else had similar problems?

    Hi Tim and others on this thread.
    Having raised a few hares, I felt duty bound to take another look at this problem.
    I dug out a master tape of my last 1080i HD project and which contained two clips with distorted sound. They were the last two clips of a 60 minute recording on a 63 minute tape and were, respectively, 13.5" and 47" long. They played fine in the camcorder and I have now discounted the camcorder and tape as a possible cause of the problem, following further testing in iMovie 6.
    I connected the camcorder to main power, then connected it via Firewire to the iMac, switched the camcorder to Play/Edit, and then opened a new imovie project(1080i PAL). I imported the last 4 minutes of the tape including the problem clips. The clips imported at half speed which is normal for my 1.8GHz CPU and shortly after I was able to preview in real time.
    The two problem clips still had distorted sound and the preceding two clips had no problem when reviewed in the Clips pane preview.
    I then highlighted the problem clips and dragged them simultaneously into the Timeline. The sound problem disappeared-they both played fine. I dragged them back to the clips pane and the problem reappeared.
    I then tried dragging them back to the Timeline and that seemed too much for iMovie 6. Sometimes a clip would work, then only one clip, then I lost sound altogether on the second clip,etc. Once you go beyond a certain point iMovie 6 will just become impossible.
    Quitting iMovie and then reopening the project got one clip to work temporarily but clearly is not a solution.
    Apple`s suggestions to conserve power when in HD by turning off Show Audio Waveform in View did nothing and neither did their other suggestion of deselecting Keep Playhead Centred in Playback Preferences. Neither did their suggestion to Repair Permissions. I had already tried their other suggestions of defragmenting my drive and there is now little more I can do to improve the performance of my computer.
    What did get me back on track was to close iMovie>ditch the iMovie preferences plist(Home>Library>Preferences)>re-open iMovie. The other thing that worked was your idea Tim of extracting the audio of both clips, and in fact this seemed to be the most lasting solution. However, starting with dragging both clips from Clips Pane to Timeline might prove better than either-I still do not know whether dragging them together was what what did the trick. Of course, it might be necessary to do all three if problems persist.
    Because I had confused iMovie with all this messing around, I ran DiskWarrior to tidy things up. No major problems were reported but this application does not report all the corrections it makes. Thus it sorted out a previous problem I experienced with iMovie 6 when trying to use purchased music but I have no idea what changes it made.
    My revised conclusion is that we may all need a lot more power in the CPU when editing high definition in iMovie 6. For example, the new 24" iMac G5 has the equivalent of double the power of my current iMac.
    David Babsy, a frequent contributor to these forums often mentions that most of his problems disappeared with a more powerful computer. You only have to see how things dramatically slow down in iMovie 6 when reaching the end of a big high definition movie edit to appreciate the need for more power.
    Obviously we still need extra RAM and also a big hard drive to cope with the vastly bigger files that HD needs.
    But power, memory and storage are, I now think, not the full answer. There is a bug or a series of bugs still to be resolved in iMovie 6 if it is to be truly stable. I include importing problems with HD in that list.
    I still think iMovie 6 is fantastic, even on my underpowered iMac.
    Apologies for previously confusing the issue with camcorder/tape issues.
    The problem clips are still working in iMovie as I post this.

  • W520 low WEI score, & poor performance

    Recently I bought a used Thinkpad W520 model:4284cv4 from Ebay.
    What the problem I am encountering is about the low performance this W520 laptop performs. I have also the X200 on hands, it looks like the performance is even better with SSD for both laptops.
    I am disappointed because I suppose this is the best laptop in the world with the best keyboard.
    You can see that the WEI score for processor is very very low, 4.9 only.
    It's unbelievable anyway. It should be above 7 or more!!!
    I also check the ways to optimize the WEI score on this forum but it doesn't give a help for my laptop.
    I found that the CPU loading is very easy to raise up to almost 100%.
    Can anymore one here to do a favour for me in the last day of 2014????

    I had the same experience with my W510. Please refer to the follow threads:
    Lenovo Community
    Microsoft Answers
    There is somethign particular to the WEI analysis that it does not enable TurboBoost or SpeedStep technologies available to the processor; at least not in my case. I monitored the processor during the WEI analysis and the processor clock was supressed to it's minimum 930MHz core speed (native 1.6GHz, and 2.8GHz TurboBoost) on all four cores for all tests.
    My solution was to clear all the prior analysis (see the Microsoft link), and to then install and run Throttlestop before starting a fresh WEI analysis. This prevents WEI from throttleing back the processor. I went from a processor index score of 4.8 to 6.9.
    Once I was done the analysis, I uninstalled Throttlestop -- or simply quit using it. I had run other analysis to demonstrate in day to day use, the system and applications were accessing the processor technologies, and everything was working as it was supposed too.

    I am upgrading this year to get retina and SSD. I currently have a late 2011 Macbook Pro with a 2.4GHz i7 processor, 16GB ram, 1TB hard drive, and a AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1024 MB graphics card. I am considering portability issues of the 13" vs the 15". I work in the court system and have been using my iPad in court but I will be loosing that option when the state switches us to VPN at the end of the year. In shopping I noticed that the 13" Macbook Pro maxes out with a 2.8 GHz i7 processor whereas the 15" is offered with either 2.3 GHz or 2.6GHz. I definitely want an i7. In my experience it just works better for me because I usually have Parallels with Windows 7, Word, Excel, Safari with multiple tabs, mail, and calendar open all at once, bare minimum. I do some photo editing but I do like to play some higher memory games every now and then. Portability aside, will the 2.8GHz processor in the 13" make a big difference over the 2.3GHz or 2.6GHz in the 15"? In anyone's opinion, will it help make up the difference for the single graphics card in the 13" Macbook Pro? For reference I play WoW occasionally, STO, and various console ports. Thanks for any advice.

    Hi
    I got a Macbook pro i7 so its a similar spec. I would advise against gaming on the Macbook.
    The CPU temperatures goes through the roof. For example RealTemp measured the CPU cores at 87 and 91 C and GPU at 69 C after playing CM 2010 in Bootcamp for 30 mins. That's with placing the macbook at an angle on a desk so there was a gap for air to circulate under the laptop.
    The maximum temperature envelop for the i7 is 105 C according to Intel website, the i5 might run a bit cooler, still I don't like to push the CPU for a long period of time so close to their max temperature.
    The i5, i7 macbook is very powerful, I run it with Windows 7 using VM ware all the time. Its not the lightest laptop on the market, but its still very portable in a backpack. You can also buy a 26" monitor very cheap now days so you can hook the macbook to a bigger screen at home.
    Hope this helps

  • Windows 8 making thinkpad X61s C2Duo L7500 (default 1.6GHz) runs at 1.8GHz

    Hi!
    My laptop is a thinkpad X61s C2Duo L7500, wich current CPU frequency is 1.6GHz.
    I installed Windows 8 and noticed something strange:
    The CPU is running at the maximum of 1.8GHz.
    Screens:
    Running on balanced performance energy plan:
    Image 1
    Running on high performance energy plan:
    Image 2
    Energy plans are the defaults of Win8, not customized.
    BIOS is at default values.
    The CPU frequency goes up 1.8GHz both on balanced performance and high performance energy plans. as obvious, on high performance it happens regularly, while on balanced performance it goes up to 1.8GHz just sometimes.
    Although that problem, my X61s is running windows Windows 8 well. It just had 3 BSODs, but I'm pretty sure should be caused by the higher CPU frequency.
    Have anyone noticed the same problem?
    There is any fix or workaround to solve it?
    I'm afraid that my CPU could be damaged if I use it for a very long time.
    Thanks!

    Thanks CharlyAR!
    So, i finally found out I was completely wrong :-(
    Here are Intel L7500 Specs:
    http://www.cpu-world.com/sspec/SL/SLA3R.html
    It says it runs at 1.8GHz on IDA mode.
    There is a feature called IDA:
    Intel Dynamic Acceleration technology (IDA) is a feature that boosts CPU performance when the CPU is running single-threaded applications. This is achieved by temporary increasing frequency of one CPU core when another CPU core is idle, i.e. when the second CPU core is in Deep Sleep or lower power state. How much the frequency is increased depends on front-side bus speed of the CPU:
    533 MHz FSB - by 133 MHz
    800 MHz FSB - by 200 MHz
    1066 MHz FSB - by 133 or 266 MHz
    This feature was introduced in Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile microprocessor family and is applicable only to dual-core CPUs. Quad-core processors incorporate Dual Dynamic Acceleration feature, which works similar to IDA. Newer Intel microprocessors based on Nehalem core utilize improved version of IDA called Turbo Boost Technology.

    So, I reverted all my energy plans to the default states and now I'm running it without being afraid ;-)
