Which mac operating systems am I allowed to virtualize?
which mac operating systems am I allowed to virtualize? I would like to create an exact replica of a client's setup. (Mac OS X Snow Leopard server) on my Mac for some tweaking.
I am aware this is the Lion forum. Lion appears to be easier to virtualize, which is why I'm asking it here.
Can I then deploy from a virtual machine to a production environment? Is VMWare or Parallels better for this?
Thanks.
--Sam
My understanding is the only thing you maybe allowed to virtualize is a Server OS.
With lion Server is more of an app so im not sure how that works into their licenseing.

Booting different Mac operating systems.
In the Windows world, the user can set up a computer to allow the selection of different operating system versions, such as Win98, WinXP, WinVista, to be chosen at startup.
Can this be done with Leopard, or possibly Snow Leopard? I'd like to upgrade, yet keep the existing system installed. I am not referring to using an emulator like Parallels Desktop, I'm already doing that.
One of the things that's the most frustrating to me is the different terminology used. Took me awhile to figure out that Airport is wireless networking, and today I discovered that Automator appears to be a macro recorder. Yet I've got a friend who could never figure out the other terms but the Mac terms make perfect sense to her!! Go figure!!! LOL
And before someone suggests it, I bought a Leopard book last spring when I bought this Mac, but a summer job I took involved 10-12 hour workdays and I just haven't had the time or energy to get it read.
KenSupported different Mac operating systems (and unix-like Linux for Mac) can be
booted in the same computer; in order for multiple Mac OS X systems to work,
they need to be in their own partition so as to not mix up their differences, and
applications that may work well in one may not do so well in another. So, each
OSX has its own Applications and other folders, in their own home partitions.
Snow Leopard 10.6.x is intended for Intel-based Macs; Leopard 10.5.x is the
last version supporting PPC-based Macs. Some PPC Macs did not like 10.5.
You could probably use a bootable externally enclosed hard disk drive to have
additional system(s) available for the computer, instead of reformatting the HD
& partitioning it for several systems. The OEM drive may be too small for more
than one OS installed, depending on the uses expected and storage demands.
Computers that can't support the latest OS X 10.6.x won't, and they can't use
an older OS X than the one they shipped with, the exact as-shipped version.
Some models can run several OSs including variants of Linux or unix for Mac,
and select supported OS X versions; plus older Macs running dualboot OS9/X.
The Support pages on the Apple site have helpful information on specific Macs
& other hardware, so that may be of help to read about each model in question.
Also, the free download offline database: http://mactracker.ca is fairly handy.
Good luck & happy computing! -

TestStand 2010 SP1 support Mac Operating System?
Hi,
The TestStand 2010 SP1 does not support Mac Operating System?
It only supports Windows Operating System
Please confirm
Thanks,
Prakash
Solved!
Go to Solution.I have been noticing alot of activity recently in the Test Engineering world for Non Windows Platforms for scripting which TestStand is good at. A lot of the industry is moving towards open source scripting languages such as Ruby and Python in which LabView applications and other programming languages can be called from. This means test applications can no longer can be platform dependent since Python, Ruby are not OS dependent. Those type of test applications can be run on Mac- OS, Linux and Windows, etc. with very minmal code modifications between them. For one example see:

I have an older I Mac operating system 10.6.8 and want to upgrade. I've been told that the only upgrade available for my machine is 10.7.5. On what website can I find this upgrade or how do I find this upgrade on the Apple website?
Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

CS6 Camera Raw - I can now only crop using aspect ratio in the custom crop setting rather than being able to set the dims in cm and inches? anyone know how to revert? ever since installing new mac operating system things have been strange!
Hi Kglad.
I have looked at all of my settings both in Bridge and CS6 Photoshop regarding Camera Raw. I am at a loss how to set the crop tool in cm or inches as I once did - now the only option is to crop using ratios of 1:1 etc etc - This is infuriating as lots of my square crops I could set at 10" x 10'' specifically to print one to one to fit frame and mount size -
Now if cropping using bloody aspect ratio of 1:1 (square) the actual dims of the crop are roughly 4.25 inches x 4.25 inches. this means I then have to open the whole image in photoshop in order to crop at the dims I have set! It was so much quicker in terms of batch cropping in camera raw being able to set dims in centimetres and inches but they have gone and mucked around with it, with the new bloody update! Unless you are an absolute genius and know how I can go back to having an option of CM, Inches and aspect ratio within the custom crop settings? (Please say you do)
here is the new tutorial for CC - my guess is they have scrapped the control we had over the custom crop settings

I have Adobe Photoshop CS4 and have just upgraded my Mac operating system to Yosemite with the newest version of Java 2014 running. When I try to access Photoshop from Bridge or directly open it asks for a Legacy Version of Java 6. As I am a pensioner I cannot afford an upgrade does anyone know of a work-around for this problem?
Hi Daddyfred,
CS4 Photoshop has not been tested on Yosemite. But still you can try the Java 6 update using the below link.

I need to work with the RAW files on a SONY RX100III camera. I use Photoshop CS5 and a Mac operating system OSX 10.6. Is there an Camera RAW upgrade or an alternative program that works here?
You don't. Since you have an Intel Mac, buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD from the online Apple Store.

Is the adobe flash virus affecting the mac operating systems?
Is the adobe flash update virus affecting mac operating systems?
The latest Flash 11 works fine for me on Mavericks, on every site that plays videos.
I have no idea what Xat Flash Chatrooms is (and really have no interest), but it sounds like the issue is with that site, as Flash in general works for literally tens of millions of people on most other sites. -
Windows 8.1 and MAC Operating Systems
Why doesn't the "Submit" button work for users using Windows 8.1 or Mac operating systems? Is there a work around?
Hi,
Assuming that you are referring to forms distributed as PDF, the most common cause of this issue is that users are completing the form using software other than Adobe Reader. Please refer to the following FAQ:

What Mac operating systems work with Indesign CS3?
What Mac operating system will work with Indesign CS3? I have 10.5.8 and need to upgrade to 10.7 so that my new laser printer will work with my Mac.
If one buys a new Mac 10.8 or 10.9 will ID CS3 work?Maybe…maybe not. It certainly won’t be supported and under no circumstance should you use migration assistant to move it to a new machine. With that I can almost assure you it won’t work.
