Which Mac OS to upgrade to?
I have an iMac with 10.2.8, 256 MB memory, 1 GHz PowerPC G4 processor. Plenty of disk space. The technical specifications for Leopard says it requires 512 MB of memory. Am I able to add more memory, or am I limited to upgrading to Tiger? If Tiger, what are best bets for finding a copy?
You can always add more memory. I got my iMac G4 800MHz up to 768 MB RAM but I don't have the minimum power (867 MHz or faster) for Leopard. I went to a place in town here called The Mac Cafe (a lot of things Mac) and the sales person recommended Tiger for me. He told me Leopard needs about 1 GB Ram to run smoothly. He had Tiger on hand and I bought it (archive and install) and zero problems. I'll probably wait until Apple upgrades the new Intel iMac (traditionally around January) before I splurge for a new computer. I saw Tiger on Amazon for sale.

I am also starting to do some very ametuer video prep (like iMovie) etc. With just Photoshop and Indesign alone, what is the minimum Mac I should upgrade to, if I am still concerned about performance, but budget and mobility could come into play too? For instance would the 13.3" Mac Book Pro with Intel Graphics be sufficient for doing my usual print design, with a little iMovie thrown in? At that price, I could afford a big display to plug into when I am at my office desk.
I like the idea of mobility (which I haven't had before with the big iMac), but don't want to notice a horrible lag in performance if I get a weaker machine. The guy at PeachMac said that when it came to display the Retina (in the Macbook Pro, 13.3 in edition) made a high difference despite the lack of a dedicated graphics processor. I don't do heavy-duty, memory-intensive graphics work but about once every two years anyway, and my iMac only has 2GB of RAM to begin with. I just want to make sure that true designers who have switched from older iMac machines to Macbook Pro's (not the most expensive models) didn't regret it when trying to run Photoshop, et al.
(My absolute budget is "no more than $2,000" which is why I am considering the new iMac vs. the MacBook Pro 13.3" and getting a nice external display.)
Thanks!To run the new Studio you need Leopard and it will not spec'd to run on Tiger (Leopard 10.5.6 [specs here|http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs>) I have run it in Leopard and Snow Leopard, and both seem fairly similar, though I generally like my Leopard machines a bit more. Still breaking in the Snow Leopard and getting various kinks out of it. It seems I have some more little things go wrong in Snow Leopard.
Overall I like the upgrades in the Studio and you may just want to make another boot drive with clean Snow Leopard and the new Studio to work with until you feel you are happy with how it is performing. Bascially that is what I do until I am fully comfortable with the system and always have my rollback plan in place in case something goes awry and I need to get things done.... -
Hi i upgraded from lion to mountain lion to day on my mini mac,Since the upgrade i am no longer getting sound through my HDMI cable which was working fine on lion Checked the midi audio settings and system preferences to out on HDMi nothing no sound whats so ever.Any one any ideas?
I use a samsung TV for my monitor via HDMI.Tried all the system Audi setting nothing .Head phone and internal speakers are fine.Similar issue; Audio was working fine on Lion, now not on Mountain Lion. Have a Macbook Pro early 2011 with AMD Radeon HD 6750M, connected by thunderbolt through a Lacie LBD to a mini-displayport to HDMI adapter (n.b. same problem when not going through the LBD) to a Pioneer VSX 521 AV receiver. For me when I go into audio Midi settings all the volume sliders for the displayport device are greyed out and at zero. But when I click 'configure speakers', it's able to send out the test signals to each speaker. Part of the problem could be that I'm not getting the option to put out 6channel sound, only 2 or 8 channel. Since my system is Dolby 5.1, and I only have 6 speakers, I would have expected the 6ch option to be available. But I imagine there's more to it than that. Elsewhere someone has suggested playing with Remote Interactive over HD on an Onkyo device; I'll see if there's something similar on the Pioneer that can be changed. Any other suggestions welcome.

I am using a Palm Pilot still for several purposes, and the desktop version can run om my Mac OS X 10.6.8, but I cannot find a version thjat runs on OS X Mavericks, which prevents me from upgrading as my PalmPilot is storage for vital info. Any solution?
Thank for for your suggestions. Unfortunately they are of little help. I am running on Snow Leopard and the PalmDesktop works fine. However, I do not want to quit my PalmTungsten unit as it is my backup for all my important access information. If it cannot run on Mavericks and no other solution is at hand, I simply will not update my OS X, but work on my Snow Leopard as it is.
I do not know how on earth I can migrate the information from my Palm into another system, and then quit the PalmPilot. If you have any intelligent solutions to this I would appreciate an input. A manual copy and paste solution is not acceptable. I may however run it on Windows via Parallel Desktop, but it is a lousy solution, and demonstrates (again) the weakness of Apple's OS and lack of compatibility. I am not impressed by the OS X performance.

I have a mac with os x 10.6.8, should I upgrade it to os x 10.9.is there any problem which can occur after upgrading my os.
It is best to wait till there is a 10.9.1 update as new OS X systems always cause problems to some installations. Better not to risk losing data unless you have a bootable clone that enables you to revert to the original (pre upgrade) state. Haste makes waste.

I synch my Touch with 2 separate macs. One for calendar and address book and one for photos and videos.
Does it matter which mac the 2.0 is purchased and installed on?
Thanks.It should take about 30 minutes, give or take. But, if you sync your iPod before installing 2.0, then iTunes will automatically backup your iPod (as long as "disable automatic backup" isn't checked in Preferences). So I think all your iCal and address book stuff will still sync back to your iTunes if you sync it on the computer with your music on it

You have no idea what a journey it has been to try to find the answer to all of this. Here is my stab which is open for input.

- When I recently installed 10.6 on a 10.5 Macbook Pro with CS2 Master Suite, I lost all access to CS2. End of story. Unhappy ending at that.
- I have CS4 Master Suite on a MacPro using OS 10.6.8, but my understanding is that if I go to 10.7, I lose all access to CS4. Another bad solution.
- Apparently the same is true of CS5 and 5.5. If one goes to 10.7, you will no longer be able to use those programs.
- The only Master Suite that is 10.8 compatible is CS6. New price $2,599, or $999 upgrade from CS5 or 5.5.
32bit vs 64bit
And to look at 32 bit vs 64 bit briefly. My CS4 Master Suite for Mac has two 64 bit programs, Premiere and After Effects. The Windows version of the same program also included Photoshop as 64bit.
- I assume that as CS Suites went from CS4 to 5 to 5.5 and then to CS6, that more and more programs take advantage of the 64 bit architecture. I don't know the specifics however. Would like to know.
- Also the MacOS has done the same. The newer the operating systems, the more the system takes advantage of mulitple processors, ram, and 64 bit architecture. Again, not sure of the sweet spot here.
And then there was the cloud!
Not sure what to do with that information.

- if I have CS6 on my computer, do some work, and want to open it 10 years from now, I still have the software and a computer.
- Cost of $30 a month on a special, but $50 a month normally. Sounds cheap month to month, but after two years of $50, I have spent $1,200 on a product that I don't own!
Anyway, all of this comes up because I have multiple versions of Master Suite. I have multiple computers with various versions, and it all goes to crap if I upgrade the system software, or Adobe no longer supports the older versions. This is my contribution to the discussion. Apparently Adobe support had no archived articles to answer any of my questions, they suggested I look online. Great help. As I say, I don't much trust Adobe as my business partner anymore. I think I will work my way towards CS6 and see how long that takes me with Apple system upgrades. I'm not sure what OS 10.9, and beyond may bring as it relates to Adobe products, but I do need to get past my old 32bit applications running on an 8 core machine with 32gig of ram.
Which brings up one final point. I have Imac with 4 gig ram, Macbook pro with 8gig of ram, and MacPro with 32 gig ram. Will 4 gig ram run Cloud CS master suite? Its a worm hole that just keeps getting deeper! I have to find a place on that slope that is cost effective and allows me to hold my position for a few years until I can see how Adobe treats its cloud cutomers, and how well Adobe and Apple play together.
If you have any links to addtional information about various CS programs and which are ported to 64 bit, that would be helpful. I read some things about Rosetta and Java being the culprits in various upgrades to CS programs and the new Mac OS systems.
Also, if you have any work arounds to get CS5.5 to run on OS 10.7 or 10.8, curious to hear about those as well. As I understand it, 10.8 no longer includes the previous Java or Rosetta applications, but I was under the impression that they could be installed after.Long story short: Simply get CC for teams. At 500 bucks a year it's a steal and those 5 licenses in the base package (or was it 10 even?) cover all your computers, at least the 3 ones you mentioned. For system requirements refer to the individual product pages.

Installing RAM in a 2011-2012 MacBook Pro
There is really only one way to install RAM into a 2011-2012 MacBook Pro and while there are hundreds of DIY videos online, I just like this one, found on YouTube, by “macmixing”.
Note that there is a difference in the RAM that should be used in 2011 and 2012 models.
2011 models must use:
•204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
And 2012 models must use:
•204-pin PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM

Remember that the 13", 15" and 17" 2011 models (early or late) and the 13" and 15" mid-2012 non-Retina models can handle 4GB, 8GB or (unofficially, but, believe me, it works) 16GB of RAM. There are, in my opinion, only two 100% Mac-compatible vendors out there: Crucial and OWC. I really can't recommend any other brands, even though it may work, as these are the only brands that I've personally used in quite a while. Also remember to stay away from any RAM that is a “value” brand - Macs are picky about RAM and often these value RAM modules just don’t work very well.

1- MacPro Refourbished 2012 for 2145.00
2- iMac (new) 27" i7, Fusion Drive and 2GB Nvidia 680MX
The reason why I am not sure which one to get is because I am afraid that in a future I wont be able to upgrade the iMac but at the same time the MacPro 2012 is pretty old, it doesnt even has USB 3.0.
If I get the MacPro I will end up spending more money because I gonna need a display which cost 1000
So guys what do you think?????
Oh also the other reason I am thinking on getting the MacPro is because with the MBPR if I use bootcamp OMG it really get HOTTTTT and I know that at least the mac pro has better cooling compare to the iMac...
Any Adviseee plssssif you need it now... imac otherwise sit on fence for now.

Which Mac Pro to buy for Studio 3
Guys, I'm in the process of upgrading my trusted Power Mac G5 Quad to a Mac Pro.
I will also upgrade to FCS 3.
My question is, which Mac Pro to buy? Quad 2.93 OR Octo 2.26?
Will FCS 3 along with Snow Leopard utilise ALL the Octo's processors? Or am I better off saving the money and sticking with a Quad?If your income depends on this work, then buy the biggest, baddest, most RAM-filled Mac Pro you can.
At least get the octo 2.66. Put 12GB RAM in it, if you can, but put a minimum of 6GB in there. The concept is that as a professional editor, editing for clients, you must be as time efficient as you can afford to be.
Compressor will use that RAM to compress your stuff a lot faster. Also, Motion can make use of as much RAM as you throw in there. Final Cut Pro itself, not yet. -

YEs it appears you will need to purchase the Tiger upgrade.
I havent personally did an upgrade like that.
Id imagine if you just upgrade your apps, songs and docs should be there.
however, the first thing anyone would recommend is to make a back up of allyour most important an dused files or a complete clone just in case.
