Which MacBook Air?

I'm going to buy a MacBook Air. I'm snot sure about the screen size. I'm at university. I will use my macbook for pages, keynote. Checking mails etc. The only problem is 13 inch one lasts for 7 hours but 11 lasts for 5 hours. Should I buy 11 inch or 13 inch? Thank you for replies.

MacBook Air 13-inch will be fine.
Best.

I Need Help Figuring Out Which MacBook Air To Buy.

Avoid the MacBook Pro (non retina) unless you absolutely need to burn or read DVD/CD media on the road and don't want to carry around a small external optical drive. That leaves the MBA and the MBPr as your two choices. The Air's advantage is extreme portability and battery life - especially with the standard CPU. The MBPr's main advantage is its display. Both are perfectly good workhorse computers for school and work. Neither is especially good for gaming other than casual games. In fact many games don't support the Intel integrated video at all.
Once you've decided on which model I strongly recommend that you have at least 8GB of RAM. How large a drive depends on how much you intend to stuff onto your computer. Using my MBA for home and work, which includes a minimal installation of Windows 7 for programming and verifying that websites look and behave acceptably on both platforms, I can fit everything I need on a 256GB drive but could never live on a 128GB drive. My wife, however, could have saved a little cash and gone with the 128GB model.

  • Which Macbook Air should I go with?

I want to get an 11 inch Macbook Air, but do not know which one I should get.  Do you think the $999 Air (1.6ghz i5 processor, 2GB memory, 64GB flash storage) will be efficient using final cut and adobe illustrator? I create small video clips/highlights, slideshows and edit photos for my job a lot.  Or Should I get a more expensive air like the $1,199 (1.6ghz i5 processor, 4GB memory, 128GB flash storage)? Or even an upgraded Air with 1.8ghz, i7 processor, 256GB flash storage?  I will NOT use this computer to store music or any other types of media other than short video clips and photos.  I also have a large external hard drive to store any work I am finished with.  I'm on the road a lot so I need something small.  Thank you for your help!

Get a a model with 4gb of ram. You can't upgrade it once you've bought the laptop (it's soldered to the main board) and OS X Lion uses a lot of ram. 2gb will work, but it can become painfully slow at times, specially when you edit videos or photos.
The $1,199 model you quoted seems to be the best choice for what you need.

  • Which MacBook air is better to play the sims 3 on?

    Hey!
I'm going to buy a MacBook air
But I'm confused what to buy?
    2013/2014 model?
And which is better for gaming?
That would run the sims 3
Btw I'm not a Mac user , so I need your help!
I really like the new MacBook air
But I'm wondering if I could play games on
    Such as the sims 3
    And thanks!

Thanks!, But what about the OS X mountain lion and Yosemite I mean it's no difference between them
as for gaming ? and if I bought the MacBook air with
    Processor: 1.3GHz
    Dual-core Intel Core i5
    Ram memory:
    4GB
    and storage 256GB
it will also run games such as the sims 3 or
    i should have 8GB , 1.7GHz , Intel core i7?
    Thank you!

  • Which MacBook Air should I get?

Somebody wants to buy me a MacBook Air as a present because I will be doing volunteer work starting in January helping some disabled people learn to use Macs on Sundays.
I wonder which I should get.
Does anybody know the difference between these two models (see screenshot - it's Japanese, but you should get the gist of it). One has 256 SSD and one has 256 "Flash Storage."  What's the difference? Is one just an older model?
Should I add a little extra and go for a Pro model?
This would be a "2nd computer" for me for travel and when out of the office. My main computer is my iMac.
    Opinions welcome!
    Thanks,
    Doug

Same thing, that just means the very same thing
Get the 2013 model much better
    2013 differences:
2013 model has 802AC wifi, much faster
    dual mics
    cooler Haswell processor
    longer battery life
id call Apple again to verify the models are the same, I dont speak Japanese, but from the pics, you can tell, because the 2012 dont have dual mics on the left side, 2013 does

  • Which MacBook air should I buy??

I have 2 options for buying MacBook air?
    1) 11 inch i7 4 GB Ram and 128 GB flash memory
    2) 13 inch i5 4 GB Ram and 128 GB flash memory
Which laptop will best suit me for word excel PowerPoint and day to day office use. Would be replacing my desktop with the MacBook
Major difference in both the laptops and processor?

I would go with the larger 13" for excel and powerpoint.  Also, an extra 4 Gig of ram is only an extra $100 and worth every penny.

  • Which MacBook Air should I get? 13 inch or 11 inch

I want a MacBook Air for Reaktor 5, uploading videos to YouTube with iMovie, stuff I cannot do on my iPad, games (Assassins Creed, Bioshock), web browsing, etc. Should I get the Refurbished MacBook Air 11 inch 128gb SSD 4gb RAM intel core i7 2.0 ghz, or refurbished Macbook Air 13 inch 256gb SSD 4gb RAM intel core i5 1.8ghz. I am 12 years old so I need something more portable than the MacBook Pros.

If you can afford, buy a new MB Air 13-inch with 256 GB storage and 8GB RAM.
Otherwise go for "refurbished Macbook Air 13 inch 256gb SSD 4gb RAM intel core i5 1.8ghz".

  • Which Macbook Air should i get? 11 or 13 inch model

Im 14 and i need a new computer. Mostly i use my computer for browsing, email, twitter, listening music, youtube and sometimes gaming. I like light laptops that i can when im in my bed, when im laying in sofa,... But now i cant decide what model should i get 11 or 13 inch model. I hope u guys  can help me.
                                                                                                                                                                 Jessica

    Hi Jessica,
I think that the deciding factor concerning which size to get would be how you intend to use it.  People who tote their macbooks around alot, such as sales people or executives (road warriors) and also students who need to take their computers to school, surely would benefit from the smaller 11inch version.  In your case, if you are going to use it in a comfortable environment, such as in bed, or on the sofa, the larger 13inch model would be more beneficial, especially if you watch videos and play games fairly often.  Even if you lug it around a little, to Starbucks or a friends house, or take it with you on vacation once in a while, I feel the larger model would be suitable for you.

  • How do I AirDrop between my MacBook Air (OS 10.10.1) and my iPhone 5s (vs 8.1.2)?

How do I AirDrop between my MacBook Air (OS 10.10.1 Yosemite) and my iPhone 5s (vs 8.1.2)?
Bluetooth & wifi (same wifi) are turned ON for both my iPhone & laptop.
On the iPhone, I have selected a Camera photo to AirDrop and I see the AirDrop icon above the apps Message, Mail, Twitter, etc. but I don't see an option to actually AirDrop it onto the laptop.
On the laptop (MacBook Air w/Yosemite), I'm in the Finder and have selected AirDrop, but to devices revealed in the window.
    What am I missing??????

Which MacBook Air do you have? It must be a 2010 or newer according to this article: http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203106

  • Switching from Mac Mini to Macbook Air

Hello, this is my first post in this forum and I hope that I chose the right category.
Right now I'm running a Mac Mini 2011 Base model, that is the one with an 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 processor and I have also upgraded the RAM from 4GB to 8GB.
I know want to take a step further into the Mac laptops and I have my eye on the Macbook Air but I have some questions.
The work I do is mostly writing code and light photo editing with Photoshop, no heavy photo editing or video rendering. I want to know which Macbook Air I should pick to get about the same performance as the 2011 Mac Mini that I'm running right now because I'm very happy with my Mac Mini.
    Here are some questions:
    1. How do the processors stand up to the Mac Mini? The latest Macbook Air of course runs the new Haswell processors but I'm uncertain if I should pick the upgraded i7 processor that's available. The Macbook Air has a lower clock frequency than the Mac Mini and I was wondering if the Macbook Air can stack up.
    2. Should I get the 11 inch or the 13 inch screen? I will be doing most of my work hooked up to an external monitor but sometimes I feel the need to sit down at an more comfortable place. Is there anyone who has any experience with web design/coding on an Macbook Air monitor?
I'm already planning on getting the 8GB of RAM upgrade and probably the 256GB SSD too.
I'm very thankful for any answer whatsoever!
    Sincerely,
    Fabian Lindfors

Mac Mini is great isnt it? Got a couple of them and typing on one now.
My new base model 2013 macbook Air I5 with 8gig of ram
vs. what im currently using now,... this Mac Mini QUAD CORE with 16 gig of ram.
Honestly on simplex Photoshop editing I notice NO difference between my quad core 16gig RAM Mac Mini and my Macbook Air 13" I5.
Ive had both 11" and 13" macbook Air, I really wouldn't go back to the 11".
Also the battery life in the 13" is a lot more than the 11".  Much larger Lithium Polymer battery packs on the 13"
Yes, get the 8gig of ram regardless
Here is an excellent video comparison between the 11” I5 vs. I7 2013 Macbook Air.

  • Macbook Pro Late 2008 vs Macbook Air

Hi all - not sure if this is the place to post this?
I currently have a Macbook Pro 15.4" Unibody - Late 2008 - 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo - NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT with 256 MB of dedicated GDDR3 SDRAM and a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M with 256 MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory - 256Gb Hard Drive - 2Gb RAM.
I am looking to move to a newer & possibly lighter machine - and am considering a Macbook Air.
I currently use around 150Gb HD space - and only ever use the integrated graphics (aside from when I rarely boot up in Windoze which I understand defaults to the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT). I rarely use the optical drive and use a max of 2 x USB ports. My usage revolves around Safari - Mail - Pages - GarageSale - iPhoto - Dreamweaver CS4 (occasinally) & Word. I would like to retain my 1440 x 900 screen estate - and backlit keyboard.
I wondered which Macbook Air would offer me improved performance and would be a worthy upgrade over my current machine?
    Thanks!

    Hello JashaCOLD,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your external hard drive.  I found an article with steps you can take when an external device is not being recognized.
I recommend following the steps in the section titled "Top troubleshooting tips" in the following article:

  • Video camera output (i.Link or Firewire) to connect to my MacBook Air USB input

Is there a way to for my video camera output (i.Link or Firewire) to connect to my MacBook Air USB input??? Is there any kind of adapter?? I have many movies I want to edit on my Mac

I don't believe firewire to usb adapters exist.
Which MacBook Air do you have? If you have the 2011 model with Thunderbolt, then, you are in luck.
Thunderbolt to firewire adaptors will be available.

  • Macbook air wont work with data projector

Attempted to connect my mac to my data projector and it wont work?

If audio is needed, you'll need to more closely identify which MacBook Air you have:
About Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters
How to find your Mac's model and age?
If your MacBook Air is older than July 20, 2011, you'll need to identify whether or not it has a mini-Displayport, or a mini-DVI port:
    mini-DVI
    mini-Displayport
All technologies work well with the video of DVI or HDMI with the right adapter.  VGA and S-Video you need the proper adapter, and you won't necessarily have all available resolutions that are lower.

Since we know nothing about the age of your machine, and the OS you're using it's rather difficult to offer any reliable help.
Help us help you. The more complete the description of your problem is (which MacBook Air you have, which OS you're using, ) the more useful assistance we can provide, and, the sooner we can provide it..
This might be a reoccurring phenomena of Mavericks - a sleep/wake issue has caused many similar behaviors. It might be a conflicting software issue, or a true hardware problem with your particular machine. More details from you can shed more light.
