Which mainboard for 5 to 6 PCI-E graphic cards ?

Hi
I consider buying the following mainboards to connect as many PCI-EX HD7870 graphic cards as possible:
MSI A55-G45
MSI 990FXA-GD65
MSI 990XA-GD55
Could You advise if it is possible to use all PCI-E 16x and PCI-E 1x sockets to connect graphic cards ? For PCI-E x1 socket I am going to use extension riser cables 1X - 16X (16X to connect into PCI-E card).
My choice is MSI 990FXA-GD65 and Sempron X2 190 cpu. Is it a right choice ?

Yes, but also for SHA-1 algorythm

  • T61 with Advanced Dock and PCI-e graphics card?

Purchased T61 laptop with NVidia Quadro NVS 140M graphics (Type: 7662-CTO).
Purchased ThinkPad Advanced Dock for use with PCI-e graphics card for multi-monitors.  (Type: 2553)
    OS = Vista Ultimate
Purchased PCI-e graphics card:   NVidia Quadro NVS 440  1x
Purchased four Samsung SyncMaster 740bx monitors
Opened Advanced Dock.  Installed Quadro NVS 440 card in PCI-e slot.  Card fits perfectly.
Laptop using most recent BIOS v 1.26
Set BIOS config for PCI-e graphics and DVI default monitor.
Connected all four monitors via DVI.
Laptop in dock, turned on.  BIOS screen displays correctly on external monitors.  Microsoft Corp. screen displays with progress bar.  Screen then goes blank and next step should be the Windows login.  Login screen never displays, however.  Boot-up of laptop halts at this point and never proceeds.
Removed PCI-e card from dock, and placed laptop back in dock.  Laptop boots correctly to Windows.
Assumed faulty dock.  Called Lenovo for replacement dock.  Replacement dock also fails to boot with PCI-e graphics card.
Next assumed bad card.  Tried different card.  ATI FireMV 2400 1x.  Card fits in dock perfectly.  Laptop still fails to boot with card in dock.
Called Lenovo.  Asked for a list of cards that will work in the dock.  Tech support did not know.  I asked if anyone at Lenovo has ever seen a T61 laptop work with the Advanced Dock and a PCI-e graphics card.  Tech said no.  Issue has been escalated to engineering.  I still do not have an answer as to which PCI-e cards, if any, will work in the Advanced Dock.
    Help please.

I spent some time surfing through product release letters and data sheets for the grafic cards offered by Lenovo, no where, as far as I could see, does it say that they are compatible with the advanced dock. What is also interesting, they say for PCs they are only tested for 2 screens, but you found the document MIGR-67464 where they show how to configure 4. [confused smiley]
It looks as though you and RBS have found possible solutions for 4 screens, congrats to all
However, I don't want to be the "party pooper" here, but why doesn't your T61 boot in the dock with graphics card? This is still puzzling me, and to be honest I haven't as yet been able to come up with a reason or probable cause as to why

which mac mini should i go for: the one with AMD graphic card or Intel. I meanly going to use this for hometheater and HD movies.

Intel HD 3000 graphics card can easily handle HD movies up to 1080p. But if you are looking at higher resolutions possibly 4k or 8k that are being released this summer in new TV's, I would go with the AMD card. The AMD card would be good for video and picture applications and also games. But if this is strictly to power your 1080p home theater setup then the choice is obviously the Intel HD 3000.

  • Can i install nVidia PCI express graphics card on a ATI X200 motherboard

Is ATI X200 motherboard compatible with nVidia PCI Xpress graphics card(Gforce 6series card)?
    My system configuration
    AMD Athlon 64 3200+
ATI XPRESS 200 RS482M2 Series  Motherboard
    512 MB DDR RAM

It is indeed my friend, I have put an NVidea G-Force 6600 PCI-E in a MSI RS482M-IL Motherboard (using the ATI Chipset) and it works a dream  , not a problem.  The only advantage of using an ATI card is that the catalyst drivers on the CD for the motherboard works with the card!

  • Installation of ATI driver for Radeon X1300, X1400, V5200 graphic cards on Windows 8.1

Dear Thinkpad users. After many failures and zero support from official resources, this is a comprehensive, unbiased installation procedure for the official ATI driver with Catalyst Control Center for Radeon X1300, X1400, V5200 graphic cards on Windows 8.1. In my experience, the latest driver for these cards written for Windows Vista 32-/64-bit works flawlessly on Windows 8.1 and you will benefit from multi-monitor support, full HW-acceleration and the PowerPlay option in Catalyst Control Center as well. Install only the official ATI driver, no other modification required. (The installation may work also on non-Thinkpad systems, such as Dell etc. but I have not tested it on that systems)
    Installation procedure:
    1. Before installation, ensure you are logged as an administrator
    2. Go to ‘Control Panel’ -> ‘Power Options’ and click on ‘Choose what the power buttons do’ option from the list on the left side of the window
    3. Go to ‘Shut-down settings’ on the bottom and disable ‘Turn on fast start-up (recommended)’. Unchecking that checkbox is very important because it will prevent the problem with start-up black screen on the computer.
    4. Go to ‘Control Panel’ again and choose ‘Programs and Features’, then click on ‘Turn Windows features on or off’
    5. Select the checkbox ‘.NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0) to turn it on and wait until the installation is completed
    6. Go to Windows update and install all important updates including those for ‘.NET Framework 3.5 as well
    7. Download ATI video driver from the website of your hardware vendor. For Lenovo Thinkpad T60, T60p users the latest ATI video driver is for Windows Vista (32-bit, 64-bit), please visit http://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-t60... and download the driver
    8. Once you have the driver downloaded right-click on the file and choose ‘Properties’ from the drop-down menu.
    9. Click on ‘Compatibility’ card then ‘Change settings for all users’ and check in the checkbox at ‘Compatibility mode’ with the option for Windows Vista as well as at ‘Run this program as an administrator’
    10. Double left-click and install the program.
    11. Go to the location ‘C:\drivers\WIN\VIDEO and open the file ‘Bin’ (for Windows 8.1 32-bit users) or ‘Bin64’ (for Windows 8.1 64-bit users)
    12. Right click on ‘Setup’ file; choose ‘Properties’ from the drop-down menu and repeat the step 9
    13. Once you have set the properties, double left-click on that file and install the driver
    14. Follow the installation instructions and finish the installation
    15. Restart the computer
    cheers

  • MSI 945GM3 with PCI-e graphics card

I have a 945GM3 motherboard and am trying to put a EN8600GT video card on it (dual monitor/PCI Express).  When I install the video card I get no video output from the card or the motherboard video controller.  The system still boots as I can shut down windows from the keyboard and the system powers off.  But I can't see anything.  Same result if I disable the motherboard video in the BIOS.  On page 3-10 of the manual it shows the Advanced Chipset Setup which has a selection for setting which graphics card to initialize first, but I don't have that entry in my BIOS settings (only the other two selections on the page).  I have upgraded to v5.60 of the BIOS and that has not helped either.  Unfortunately I don't have another motherboard to test the graphics card on, but before I return it I'd like to be sure that is the problem.
    Thank you.

Clearing CMOS and powering with the monitor plugged into the PCI-e card did make that card appear.  And both outputs on the EN8600 now work.  But at that point I don't seem to be able to access the built-in display adapter.  If I take the EN8600 card out, the motherboard video controller reappears, but it disappears as soon as the EN8600 card is plugged in.  Is this a limitation of the motherboard?
    Thanks for the help.

  • PCI-E graphics card and system memory conflict.

    Hello,
I have a bit of a strange problem with my new system build.
All my parts work fine when used by them selves.
    MSI KN8 diamond.
    Athlon 3200 64bit 939 Winchester.
    Crucial Ballistix PC4000 memory.
    Inno3D 6800GT PCI-E
    Thermaltake purepower 680W.
The problem arises when I try and use both the memory and graphics card card at the same time, the system does not post stating a memory problem.  I know both work as I’m able to post when either is removed i.e when running with a standard PCI graphics card or when the memory is swapped. I’ve checked out a lot of forums over the last 2 weeks and I know there are a lot of people out there running with the same memory.  I’ve tried under clocking the memory with no success. Can anyone shed any light on this problem as I’ve never had a conflict between a graphics card and memory before.
    Thanks John

Need to make a couple of changes as there appears to be a possible issue with the loading of the Optimized Default setting in the bios, and I quote from MSI:
     Quote
After loading the Optimized Default, the memory setting values will be optimized to achieve better performance. It is, however, likely to cause problems of compatibility.
Which seems to be the exact issue you are experiencing.  First thing I would do is to manually set your vdimm to 2.8v in the bios.  This will make sure that your memory is getting the correct voltages as the AUTO setting usually sets memory to 2.5v.  This alone could eliminate your problem, but I think you'll have to comb through your memory timings and reset them, (Crucial lists 2.5-4-4-8 @ DDR500 speeds, so I'd try 2-3-3-6 or 2.5-3-3-6 for DDR400 speeds).
There is also an official bios 1.1 for your board, and a beta (5.01) from the Diamond Club.  I'd stay with the official releases for the time being (until you get your board up and running properly).

  • Installing PCIe 16x graphic card into XServe

I would like to install another graphic card into a new to buy XServe next to the onboard graphics.
Theoratically, the size dimensions of a standard NVidia GT 240 should fit in physically. Also, I don't think the heat would be an issue. But what I've read in the installation guide, seems like a problem:
About PCI Express Cards for the Xserve
The Xserve accepts cards that meet these specifications:
    - x16 PCI-E cards
    - 6.6 inch maximum length (slot 1), 9 inch (slot 2)
    - 25 W maximum power consumption per card
According to NVidia, the board consumes about 69 Watts maximum. Which is conforming to the PCIe specs (max. 75 Watts).
Thus, why does Apple give a 25 W limit? Is the power consumption the core of the problem that might be overcome by installing two power supply units? Or might it be the riser that defines the limit here?
I would really like to have more CUDA/OpenCL capable GPU's in the system, even if they are not among of the most powerful of their type and a GT 240 would fit perfectly into my needs. But I cannot risk damaging or unstabelizing the system or loosing warranty etc.
    Thanks in advance!
    TB

Thanks for the reply! Well I think the heat problem would be the best solvable one. By now, the server is planned to be equipped with:
    - the dual CPU option
    - 12GB RAM
    - SSD drive
    - 3 or 2 harddisks
    - dual power supply.
Yes, there would already be some heat producing stuff in there but the graphics board comes with another active cooling - if this is a pro or a con concerning airflow is another question. At least, the PCIe card is the last in the chain of components the airflow has to cool down. Also, the server would be located in a temperature controlled environment among our other servers.
The workload would most likely not be 24/7, but should hit 100% of each core of both CPU's and (hopefully) both GPU's for quite a long time, hours at least, more liklely some days - well both, CPU & GPU wont be stressed constantly at 100%, more or less alternating though.
Thus, if you expect the heat problem to reason apple to give this wattage limit, it would be most interesting to me, if there is anybody who is running an extension card that defenitely consumes more than these 25 Watts?

  • Is there a Replacement Program for 2009 iMacs with MXM Graphics Cards?

I have an iMac 24" Early 2009 with the Nvidia GeForce GT 120 256MB MXM graphics card that is freezing and crashing over-and-over, especially when I'm away and it's not connected to my 2nd display! Odd. I've done the usual (cleaned the iMac inside, run fsck, SMC reset, PRAM reset, repair permissions from boot USB, disconnected all peripherals, changed mice and keyboards, changed the HD, reinstalled the OS, run Onyx and so on) and finally decided that it's a faulty graphics card that only a replacement will fix. When I'm home it's more stable when connected via a Displayport DVI adapter to DVI cable to a 24" Dell display. When standalone (like when traveling with my iMac for long stints out of town) it's unusable. It won't run for longer than 30 minutes, often not even 10 minutes, then I get screen artifacts and freezes and then have to fsck to repair the drive before running it again. Only running it in Safe Mode will allow it to run reliably.
However, I believe that I found a stopgap solution. I installed a program which I downloaded after installing XCode called Quartz Debug which has apparently allowed me to disable Quartz Extreme, 2D Acceleration and Quartz GL.
Turning off all Quartz graphics enhancements makes this machine stable if not exactly completely "mac-like" in its performance, but it's at least usable under most conditions for long periods of time. I know of people who have replaced the MXM graphics card on this machine with good effect, but it's an expensive proposition and these cards are apparently few and far between. Has anyone done this?
Based on the large number of nearly identical complaints about this model, both here and elsewhere, it seems like this MXM graphics card is defective or Apple's drivers are defective . . . well maybe, but it very, very predictably crashes when the computer gets hotter and not even _extremely_ hot, but well within what would be normal operating temps for other machines.
I've disassembled and completely cleaned the inside and have replaced the HD with an SSD and removed the optical drive entirely so if anything I've reduced heat-producing devices from the interior of the device installed a fan control and keep the graphics card features mostly turned off.
I've looked for but have yet to see a recall or warranty replacement program for this device and no, I don't have Applecare. I've owned several Apple products in the last two decades and with the issues with Apple products in recent years, it seems like Applecare must be figured as part of any Apple purchase if reliability and ongoing support is desired.
Ironically, I have an Apple IIc and a Power Computing Power Tower 166 that still work just fine, thank you!

This cropped up on my wife's late 2009 model 27" iMac, too.  Random freezes were encountered, unable to identify cause for months, then one day it started to become unable to complete a normal boot.  Tech Tool Deluxe was the only direct indication as far as diagnostics are concerned.  I've NEVER been abvle to get Apple's hardware diagnostic to run from the cloud, and we fianlly got it on a Techs' bench, AHT showed nothing wrong.  As you said, Safe boot is the only way to get into the system, and performance under 10.8.5 is glacial.
Now the kicker - we DID have AppleCare, and this phase of the MXM graphics demise hit within 4 or 5 months of AppleCare expiration.  There's no longer a flat-rate repair option, Apple doesn't have any stock of the video board to sell as a replacement part (was $169, or $179 w/no exchange) and even refurbs of this paltry (512MB VRAM) board can hit $300.  I know Mac users have become 2nd-class citizens in Apple's business universe, but we're now looking at sub-42 month lifespans for hardware?  At $2k for a machine that lacks touchscreen option, that's out of line.

    Hi,
The following link shows the specs of your machine:
       http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c03499587#N432
    It clearly says:

Supports PCI Express x16 graphics cards.
Either integrated graphics or the PCI Express x16 slot are usable at one time; they are not usable concurrently.
You don't need to disable the integrated video chip (or onboard video).

  • Brightness unadjustable for "High Performance" in Switchable Graphics Card Technology

    Hello,
I have just transitioned to Windows 7 Professional on my Thinkpad R400(2787-A31)
However, after installing the Thinkpad Switchable Graphics Card driver, i am unable to adjust my brightness if i am using the High Performance mode. My laptop comes with ATi Radeon 3470 and Intel GMA 4500MHD.
I have already installed most of the drivers, and after some testing i realised that it was the switchable graphics driver that cause this problem. Before installation of this driver, i was on the ATi Radeon all the while and i can change the brightness.
I hope some one can help me with this driver issue. My installation of the drivers was from the support page. All except the PCI Simple Communications Controller has their drivers.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Rosemars,
Thank you very much for solving the problem.
The key solution lies with the BIOS update. For people who cannot get the tool to work(mine keep giving an error message), there's an alternativie BIOS update utility at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-70351
This is for R400 and T400s, for other models please select your model number at the Support page and find the utility.

  • Paying monthly for a mac help and graphics card query

So i'm thinking of buying a mac from the uk and i can pay it off monthly, which is 67pounds. does anyone know what the interest will be overall. its costing me a total of 2,240pounds. thanks.
reason for me buying a mac is so i can run final cut pro. does anyone know what the essential graphic card is to run final cut pro smoothly. or will the standard one be enough which comes with the mac pro?

i was told that the mac pro is the ultimate thing for final cut pro
It is. However, it's not a computer one should buy on a tight budget and from the sounds on it you're way over stretched as is. It's sort of like buying an Audi TT where you have to spend around an extra £9000 or so on optional extras to make it worthwhile. Same goes with the Mac Pro.
because it can be upgraded where as the imac cannot
True… but you still have to be able to afford those upgrades and without doing so your Mac Pro won't be going anywhere near its best.
i was told that having 2gb ram is more than enough
You were told what you wanted to hear and what would make it easier for you to buy it. For FCS you're talking about a 4GB RAM minimum configuration with an 8GB recommended configuration.
because we have 2gb ram at our uni computers and final cut pro runs smooth.
That's a matter of perspective as you might want to see FCP running with 4GB+ RAM.
i heard you can get a few problems with an imac because everything is compact into one interface.
Did you hear that from the guy trying to sell you a Mac Pro? While it's true that every system has it's problems, and the iMac is no exception, you find that the iMac is an extremely well performing system for its price.
Don't get me wrong, the Mac Pro is the best system to buy if you're a video editor. You do however need the budget to go along with that and video is one arena which demands the absolute most from your computer system. Lacking in one area actually hampers the performance of the system as a whole and it is no more prevalent than with video.
My recommended minimum Mac Pro package for a video editor is…
    Mac Pro 2.66Ghz 4GB RAM/2 x 500GB HDD RAID 0/ATi X1900 XT/1920 x 1200 resolution display/1TB HDD clone/1500VA-800W UPS
