Which maintenance release should I upgrade 12.1E trains (MSFC IOS) to ?

Hi Sir,
I have three Catalyst 6509 switches running the following IOS on the MSFCs:
Major Release: 12.1E
Release: 12.1(8b)E11
Platform: CAT6000-MSFC2
Feature Set: ENTERPRISE W/VIP
Filename: c6msfc2-jsv-mz.121-8b.E11.bin (128D/16F)
Major Release: 12.1E
Release: 12.1(3a)E7
Platform: CAT6000-MSFC2
Feature Set: ENTERPRISE
Filename: c6msfc2-js-mz.121-3a.E7.bin (128D/16F)
Major Release: 12.1E
Release: 12.1(11b)E
Platform: CAT6000-MSFC2
Feature Set: ENTERPRISE W/VIP
Filename: c6msfc2-jsv-mz.121-11b.E.bin (128D/16F)
I'm in the midst of standarizing all the installed 12.1E trains in my organization. In the light of the current "IOS Heap-based Overflow Vulnerability in System Timers" security advisory, I have the following upgrade options:
- 12.1(8b)E20 Date Released: 12-SEP-2005
- 12.1(13)E17 Date Released: 12-SEP-2005
- 12.1(23)E4 Date Released: 29-AUG-2005
- 12.1(26)E4 Date Released: 20-OCT-2005
I'm undecided whether to upgrade to 12.1(26)E4. No doubt, it has a lot more new features and the least bugs as far as MSFC2 is concerned. I'm okay with the new features but I value stability even more.
Anyone can advise whether I should upgrade to 12.1(26)E4 or just settle with 12.1(23)E4, etc?
Thank you.
B.Rgds,
Lim TS

Hi Prashanth,
I understand that each maintenance release will introduce new features or bug fixes, or both.
Comparing the features between release 12.1(13)E17 and 12.1(26)E4 (see attached file), only a handful of new features are unique to 12.1(26)E4. These features may have bugs which probably have already been resolved in earlier releases.
Looking at Release Notes for 12.1E (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps708/prod_release_note09186a008007f716.html), release 12.1(26)E4 has resolved a significant number of bugs.
So, I think I'd go with 12.1(26)E4. What's your thought?
Thank you.

Lim TS

Should I upgrade my iPad mini from iOS 6.1.3 to iOS 7.1.1? Thanks in advance

No, it's not true. If someone were to buy it from you then it would have to be completely restored as new at which time only the then current version of iOS can be installed. Having an older version on it now makes it worth no more than if it had 7.1.1 installed.
When you sell or give it away the new user cannot use anything on the device that is registered to your Apple ID. That's everything. You will need to turn off Find My Phone, remove the phone from your @icloud.com Find My Phone, then erase it completely. Unless you do that the device is useless to another owner. Erasing it will result in having the new iOS version installed.

SSince Apple does not support downgrading the iOS I suggest you start a new question that gives a good title to a specific problem. Then in the body of the thread describe the problem in detail, tell us what steps you have tried so far to correct the problem, what happened, and what error messages you received.

  • Should I upgrade iPad (1st Gen) from iOS 4.2.1 to iOs 5.1.1?

I am using iPad (Wi-Fi only) from last 2 years mainly for web surfing and emails. iOS 5 is sure slick and tempting. Should I upgrade or not? I dont want iPad to get sluggish after update, in that way I am better off with iOS 4.2.1 running smoothly on it. Help pls.!

    I dunno sabatoge.
It seems like it would be nice to have ipade 1st gen to get 6.0
But it would certainly help safari from crashing.     Still.
I wouldn't,t say that 5.1.1 is the LAST UPGRADE.          Apple might still do something.

  • Which Version(s) should I upgrade to.

Currently, we are running crystal reports 8.5 to design our reports in VB6.  We are in the process of converting our programs to vb.net and I'm wondering if it's time to change versions.  If so, what do I get?  Crystal Reports 2008, Crystal Reports XI, etc.
We also use Crystal Server 8 and, I assume, will need to upgrade that.  Can anyone help a rookie out?

Office 2004 for Mac was a PowerPC-based app. Apple stopped selling PowerPC Macs in 2005, and apps designed for it stopped being supported in OS X Lion (launched in 2011), so now you need Intel-based Macs.
As you have got a new Mac, you may want to try Pages, the Apple's word processing app, but if you need professional features you will need Office. Both Office 2008 and 2011 work with new Macs, so you can install any of them.

  • Should i upgrade my iPhone 3GS to iOS 6.0.1 ?

    Dear folks.
A couple of days ago I bought an unlocked, apparently little used iPhone 3GS 32GB. To my surprise, the phone was still running iOS 3.1.3 (quite unusual to find this old iOS on a 3GS in December 2012). I checked out for typical jailbreak-apps and I didn`t find any. It looks pretty "innocent" in that respect, and it works like a dream. The battery seems to last boringly long. The only things that I would like to have on it are few but important (to me): I want to be able to turn off/on cellular data myself(always on on 3.1.3) and I need two apps that are no longer available for iOS 3.1.3 : Shazam and Maps With Me. NOTHING ELSE
I know that iOS 6 is available for the 3GS, but I`ve heard stories of 3GSes running into trouble after having been installed iOS 6 on. Like not reckognizing the SIM card, randomly rebooting, and having their batteries rapidly draining.
What should I do? Shall I upgrade and get the stuff I miss, but risk ending up with a troublesome phone? Or shall I stick with what I have but enjoy a good working phone?
I would be grateful for any suggestion.

Hi Michael! Thanks for the reply
I live in Norway, and the phone has been either provided by a Norwegian carrier, or bought unlocked from the Norwegian Apple Store. You can check yourself by going to Settings-General-About-Model and type the model number (MC133KN in my case) here: http://iphonefrom.com/en/MC133KN  But it`s unlocked, I placed a Lebara SIM in it and it works perfectly.
If it has been carrier-locked then most(if not all) Norwegian carriers are selling the phones on a 12 months subscription contract. When the 12 months are up, the phone is being unlocked by the carrier either automatically, or upon customer`s request(depends which carrier you use).
It`s good to hear that your 3GS works well with the iOS 6, still after having read about issues after upgrade I have a feel that the upgrade to iOS 6 may be a hit or miss.
I read on a forum that early iPhones can only support 3 major upgrades. Can that be true?

  • 11.1.2.3 maintenance release pre-req step

We are currently running Distributed installation of our production environment on version 11.1.2.1
Plan is to apply maintenance release 11.1.2.3 to existing 11.1.2.1
Going through document: Oracle® Enterprise Performance Management System Installation and Configuration Guide Release 11.1.2.3
    Page 188
Apply any required PSEs before proceeding with maintenance the installation.
To review the list of defects fixed between earlier releases, use the Defects Fixed Finder. This
tool enables you to identify the products you own and your current implementation release.
With a single click, the tool quickly produces a customized report of fixed-defect descriptions
with their associated platforms and patch numbers. This tool is available here:
    https://support.oracle.com/oip/faces/secure/km/DocumentDisplay.jspx?id=1292603.1
    QUESTION:
    =======
Ran the defect fixed finder tool as suggested above and it came up with list of defects fixed AFTER my current release 11.1.2.1
    1) Since we are applying maintenance patch release 11.1.2.3 on top of 11.1.2.1 would it just suffice if we apply patches to address defects on top of 11.1.2.3 ALONE as a post maintenance patch step?
    2) Since the instruction mentions "any required PSU's" -- is it ok we skip the PSU's for version 11.1.2.1 and proceed with maintenance upgrade -- will there be any problem with this approach. Please suggest.

I would question the requirement to install PSEs because in theory the maintenance release should be deploying the latest set of files/fixes and I would think it only relates to patches for the release you are currently running, this requirement was not in previous maintenance releases and with the software being released only a week ago it is difficult to give a definitive answer, maybe one to ask Oracle.
    Cheers

  • How do I determine Maintenance release level

    Good morning,
Can anyone tell me how to determine the maintenance release level on an OES11.1 SP1 server ?
The instructions for NSM 4 say you need to be at OES11.1 SP1 with Jan 2013 Maintenance release applied.
    When I run "cat /etc/novell-release" my reply is;
    VERSION LEVEL = 11.1
    PATCHLEVEL = 1
I tried looking in YaST2 "Software Management, though that was any help for me.
Is there another way to determine if the Jan 2013 Maintenance release was applied. Maybe a file date somewhere?
    Thanks,
    Allen

As far as I know there's no command or log file which will easily show
which maintenance release(s) has/have been applied.
Since you're wanting to know whether a particular one has been applied
what you can do in this case is check your installed versions of the
packages shipped in that maintenance release. See
    http://download.novell.com/Download?...d=73ZrJ9ZUGjQ~ and
    http://download.novell.com/Download?...d=DHDMLrK5Wgc~ for the January
2013 Scheduled Maintenance release for OES11 SP1 inc. eDirectory.
Use "rpm -q <package>" to check which version of the package is
installed - this will also report if a package is not installed. For
example, to check which version of the ifolder3-enterprise package you
have installed use "rpm -q ifolder3-enterprise".
Given the number of novell-* packages updated by the January 2013
Scheduled Maintenance update I would use "rpm -qa novell-*|sort" to list
all novell-* package versions (note the "-qa" is needed because of the
    "novell-*" wildcard).

  • Reversal of a maint. order which was released through a maintenance plan?

    Hi All,
Is there a way to do reversal of a maintenance order that was released through a maintenance plan?
Because I do not want to process the order; as such I would like to put a reversal indicator for that order and go ahead with the next order that was called through a maintenance plan.
If YES, kindly let me know how to do it?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Kannan J

Hi Thyagarajan, Thanks for the response!
When I want to skip the maintenance call object that was generated through a plan, the system gives me the following message.
"CALL CAN NO LONGER BE SKIPPED"
When I press for further help, system gives me the following message:
"Call can no longer be skipped
    Message no. IP405
    Diagnosis
You have tried to skip a date that has already been called.
    System Response
Since maintenance call objects, for example, maintenance orders, already exist for the dates that have been called, you can no longer skip a date within the scheduling process.
    Procedure
If you do not want to perform the maintenance call objects due on that date, you must reverse the orders that have been called.
You can select the maintenance call objects that have been called using the list editing functions in maintenance processing."
Which means there should be a way to reverse the order, isn't it?
May be with this message you may be able to throw some help on this.
    Many thanks in advance
    Kannan J

  • Which version should I upgrade to? - 5.7/6.7 or 6.0?

    Hi,
For the first time, IronPort currently has two WSA releases available for preview*. As there is no upgrade path available between those releases, this is a fork in the release path.
This obviously raises the question which version you should upgrade to. As I've seen some discussion around this in other posts and as this will become even more important once we hit general availability, I'll try to shed some light on this here.
So, which version is right for you?
    * The two releases have a different focus and feature set:
Marconi (5.7 on the WSA, 6.7 on the SMA) introduces Centralized Policy Management and Delegated Administration of your Web Security Appliances via a Security Management Appliance (M-Series).
    * Aurora (6.0) introduces native FTP, Data Loss Prevention / IronPort Data Security, support for AD 2008 and other authentication and policy enhancements.
Depending on your needs, one of them will be more appealing than the other. For now, you will have to decide which feature set you want to use in the short term until we release a version of AsyncOS for Web / Management that combines both feature sets.
Important facts to keep in mind:
    * There is no upgrade path from 5.7 to 6.0 or vice versa on the WSA. Once you decide to use the functionality of one of the releases, you will only be able to use the features of the other release after an upgrade to AsyncOS for Web 6.3 and AsyncOS for Management 6.7.3 which is scheduled for Q4 2009.
    * ICCM v1 is no longer available on AsyncOS for Management 6.7 so if you want to manage your Web Security Appliances via ICCM v1 do not upgrade your SMA to 6.7.
    * AsyncOS 6.7 for Management supports Centralized Tracking / Reporting for your Email Security Appliances running AsyncOS 6.5 for Email or newer only. Please ensure that your Email Security Appliances run 6.5 or newer or upgrade accordingly if you want to use them with your SMA.
    * 'preview' means that the release is not generally available yet (slow roll-out) but can be provisioned to anybody interested in the new features or fixes available in the new release.

You should be able to just tell your client to ftp directly to the proxy and then give the appropriate FTP info, such as the actual FTP server to connect to.
I'm pretty sure that the exact details are in the User Guide. I'll check the guide shortly.
If you are doing authentication with FTP proxy, you will have to enter your credentials in the special format that is specified in the FTP configuration.

It is best to wait till there is a 10.9.1 update as new OS X systems always cause problems to some installations. Better not to risk losing data unless you have a bootable clone that enables you to revert to the original (pre upgrade) state. Haste makes waste.
