Which midi controller works best with Logic Pro?
I want pads to make drum loops etc. I'd also like to slice and edit samples. So far I've looked at Akai MPCs and N.I. Maschine.
OK I found one... the Akai LPD8. Excellent product. It is so much more intuitive to play drums on these 8 pads rather than on the keyboard. You don't need the displays or extra pads of the more expensive models. This has a nice on screen editor that is very programmable and it was plug-and-play in UltraBeat. It's powered through the supplied USB cable so you don't need a power adapter. This is strictly a controller and has no on-board sounds but the sounds in Logic Pro and Garage Band are amazing. Well worth the $49.95! You can slice and dice in Logic so that function isn't needed; similar effects can be acheived by simply holding down the pad and releasing it as a sound is modulated. Also it is very portable - the size of your laptop keyboard. Great fun!

Which Digidesign interfaces work best with Logic Pro ?
Can anyone tell which of these work best with Logic if any at all?
- Digi-003
- M-Box Pro
- M-box2
- M-Box mini
- M-PoweredThanks for the posts
After hearing complaints about latency, driver
issues, horrible quality,incompatibility with there
plugs in logic as well as no chance to stand against
performances and sound quality of other hardware half
there prices i thought to ask.
Wow. All that??? And then they recommend Migraine-Audio to you??? I don't think those posters know what they are talking about.
I've been using Logic since it could be used with Digidesign hardware, from version 4.8.1, and it has always worked very well.
It does pay to research the setting up of a DAW computer, as it is almost never just "plug-n-play" like many people believe. But once it is set up, it can run for years without problems. Most people experience problems because they change the setup, install free plugins, change audio gear, every other day of the week, and of course, that makes for a very unstable situation. No wonder they complain. But it is their tech-ethic they should be complaining about, not the equipment.
Can anyone verify there set ups and latency?
Here's one extensive test I did on my Digi 002R:
http://nicksevilla.com/logicpro-som/LogicTests.html
The latency is the same as with other comparable FireWire interfaces. Not more, and not less.
i wont drag this out into a long post i just want a
round about, all logic users in other forums seem to
be against Digi hardware, most advised to buy the
cheapest possible M-Audio interface just to run M
Powered Pro Tools if i realy need PT at all.
Really??? All of them???And did they know they are advising you to buy stuff that actually does NOT work properly??? Shame on those posters you read, as Digidesign drivers are a LOT more stable that the Migraine-Audio ones. Digidesign themselves told me to stay away from M-Audio... so you read into that whatever you like. I'll keep that advise from them.

Quad G5 2.5ghz 3GB RAM Mac OS X (10.4.2)10.4.5 was rock solid for me, and three days into heavy Logic use at 10.4.6 is proving to be just as good.
Get caught up, and go ahead and update to 10.4.6 -
Alesis Midi Controller Keyboard setup with Logic Pro 8
Hi, just wondering if anyone can help me... I'm a complete newbie!
Recently bought a Macbook with Logic Pro 8 and would like to get set up for some home recording. The keyboard I want to use as a midi controller is the Alesis QS6 which has been in the wardrobe for some time. I have a Midiman USB midi interface.
When I connect it all up, I can't get it to make any sounds from Logic, only from the keyboard itself, which I don't want. A friend suggested taking out one of the midi cables so now I have only Midi out from the keyboard running into Midi in on the Midiman. When I play the keyboard the notes register on the Transport bar and I can even record them but I cannot hear anything.
Can anyone tell me what settings I need to have on the Alesis? Should the Keyboard Mode be on Normal, CH Solo or Out 1,2,3...16? I read somewhere I need to turn General Midi off, does this sound right? Is it something to do with midi channels - I don't even know how to tell which midi channel is selected in Logic.
If anyone has experience with using the QS6 with Logic I would love to hear from you!!!
Thanks!Run the Audio/MIDI Setup utility. Is your keyboard/MIDI interface displayed in there?
If not, OSX does not see your MIDI device. Install it's drivers if it has them. If it doesn't have any drivers, your MIDI config might have got hosed. What keyboard is it?
Unplug and replug it, directly, don't use a hub. Does it show up in the AMS utility now? Try powering it for an adapter, not from USB.
If you still get no joy, I'll give you some procedures to try... -
Which video camera works best with Premiere Pro CS6
I'm a beginner in working with PP and need to purchase a video camera which will work seemlessly with Premiere Pro. I don't want to go through a lot of conversion steps. I want to tape my kids sports, be able to take the raw video right from the camera to PP and begin editing, copying etc. Does the Canon HFM 500 with ABCHD formats provide what I need or do I need something more sophisticated? Just getting started with the whole video editing thing and want to make the right choices before buying a camera. Thanks for any input.

Will Lion work ok with Logic Pro and 3rd party plugins?
Will Lion OS work ok with Logic Pro and 3rd party plugins?
Any help would be much appreciated,
Regards JamesWell, Sylenth I know... works under Logic Pro 9 and it should be found by left clicking and holding... the Software Insturment Button (The one just below where it says i/o and then scrolling down in the menu that appears to the Instrument section below the Apple Plugins...
I don't know about Massive 1.01 because i think that one is not Logic 9 compatible because it is so old.... and I have never used Vanguard... but according to it's specs the latest version should be found in the same place as Sylenth...
Both Sylenth and Vanguard are 32bit plugins...
...and.. it probably doesn't help that you are using older/not 'legal' copies of these plugins.... *ahem* -

Which camera will work best with the MAC? NIKON or Canon
Contemplating on buy a camera and a MAC, but need to know which camera will work best with a MAC, Nikon or Canon? Any info is appreciated
Both will work very well. You might not even need to install the software that comes with them because they'll probably work fine with iPhoto etc. Before you buy a camera, check this list of cameras supported by OS X:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3825
Just about all Nikon and Canon cameras are on that list. If a camera is so new it is not yet on that list, it will be in the next update, probably.
That list is for raw format compatibility. If your camera also shoots JPEG, it will work with a Mac even if it's not on that list. If a camera doesn't work by plugging in a cable, take the card out and put it in an ordinary USB card reader and the Mac will read it.
Nikon has a slight advantage in that it supports a mode that lets the Mac mount a camera like a disk on the desktop. Canons don't mount on the desktop, but it's not really a disadvantage, because Canons still work great with Apple iPhoto, Apple Aperture, Apple Image Capture, and Adobe apps, and all of those are more efficient ways of transferring photos than dragging them out manually. -

Which Mac Pro System works best with Premiere Pro CC?
I am looking to upgrade my 12 core tower to the newer Mac Pro. I am wondering if anyone out there has suggestion as to what makes the most sense financially in terms of which flavor of Mac Pro to get? For example, Is there a significant speed increase between the 8 core vs 12 core, and the D500 Vs the D700 Video Cards ? And how much RAM ? Normally the temptation is to go out and get the maxed out system, but reading though the forums with the various issues people are having with performance on the newer Mac Pro's and Premiere, would be great to know how it stacks up in the real world.
Appreciate any input in this regard.
Cheers

I thought the only graphic card options on the new Mac Pro are all AMD cards, is that not correct? You can use the Quadro?
MtD
Yes, thanks I forgot about that. I was just going by what I have, which is an older model so I can apparently just replace it with a newer Quadro.
I'm no apple hardware expert and I'm not sure how the ports are setup. Apple's official support site only lists the AMD cards Chris mentioned for their most recent model, but that's also listed as late 2013 which doesn't seem right either. (or is it?) Note that they also list my mid-2010 model as only supporting ATI Radeon HD 577 and 5870 but I've been running a Quadro FX4800 in it with good results for several years, so I know that part's not right. So I'm not sure I'd take that site entirely literally, but of course you would not want to risk getting the wrong card. You should probably enlist the help of apple support (and/or forums) to get more details and assurance before purchasing, but bottom line is you'll want something with plenty of RAM (~ 4 GB or higher if possible) which will also be compatible with CUDA and or OPenCL playback in prpro. -
Which CD Authoring software works well with Logic Pro X ?
Hello,
I've been using Logic Studio (Logic Pro 9) and know that Waveburner will no longer work if I update to Logic Pro X. So which CD Authoring software works well as an alternative to Waveburner ?
Thanks,
MatroseWaveburner is a standalone app. If you have it installed and working now it will continue to work if you buy and install logic x, Waveburner will not be affected. Logic 9.1.8 will also happily sit next to logic x on your system.

Using MIDI Touch on iPad with Logic Pro
Hello,
I try to set up MIDI Touch on iPad as a control surface. It operates through Wifi MIDI network.
When monitoring under Logic, i can see the differents MIDI messages going through the sequencer (Notes, CC messages) correctly (all values 0,1,2,...127) for every touch controllers.
When I use MIDI learn (for example to set up a volume fader), it seems to be learn but it doesn't work properly. When I move the touch controller, the value of Logic parameter jump from 0 to 127...
If I set up a touch control in MIDI Touch with CC7, it control perfectly the volume of a selected track in logic.
It seems i am missing something... Could you help me?
Thank you
PitQuestion - can I transfer the apps I bought for iPod Touch to iPad.
If they're located in the same iTunes library and the computer is authorized, yes. If not, authorize the computer from the Store menu, connect the iPod touch, and choose Transfer Purchases from the dialog box which appears.

Which printer brands work best with Mac?
Well, it sounds like my HP LaserJet 3015 will not duplex with my new Mac (only with PCs, I guess), so I am going to need a new printer. Does anyone have suggestions on which brands of printers work well with the Mac? Thanks in advance...
There are a number of Laserjet 3015 models. Some have automatic duplexing and others do not. If it has duplexing, it should do it whether it is on a Mac or a PC. Make sure you have duplexing and the proper driver for your printer. If you are using a Gutenprint driver instead of the HP driver, you may not have duplexing available. If you click on Options & Supplies in Print & Fax, you will be able to see which driver you are using.
