Which model you recommend?

i want to buy a Nokia for a person who is eldery and can't read small fonts and figures.
i want a model of Nokia which numbers on screen are somehow bigger and clearer than other models. and also i want it to have a camera to shot photos. which model is best recommended?
not to be expensive and not too cheap a between one.

My gran uses one of these: a Nokia 6301. It's got a decent screen and big buttons, and isn't too small. With all of the font settings configured to the largest settings, she's able to read everything on the screen. It's camera is OK (for a 2MP sensor with fixed focus lens)...

You can't run iMovie 11 on a PPC G5 running the old OS 10.3 Panther - which is what you say you have.

Design Premium or Web Premium, which do you recommend?

I am a student and I'm considering buying a CS5.5 during the special offer period. I am not sure whether to get Design Premium or Web Premium. Here're my considerations:
On Amazon, Design Premium [Mac] sells for $384.99 and Web Premium is $369.99. Web Premium is $15 cheaper.
What I really NEED is Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, and Acrobat, which are contained in both suite. So both will work for me, but I want to try some other products.
Design Premium = Web Premium + InDesign - Contribute - Flash Builder.
So, which do you recommend?

Windows Vista or Windows professional for Mac Book? Which do you recommend

I was wondering whether it would be better to install a windows proffesional or windows vista on a white MacBook 13" 2ghz ?
Does Windows Vista run smoothly in terms of applications, wireless networking?
Also does installing a windows system on a mac slow down the computers speed or lead to problems in any way?
What would you recommend as im quite confused which one to go for!!!

Depends on why you need to install Windows.
Not all Windows applications will work on Windows Vista.

From what most people have said, via Boot Camp, yes it works fine.
Via Parallels, you won't get the full Aero experience.

Boot Camp, no speed issues.
Parallels, as with any application can impact on running other applications.
1GB of RAM is sufficient, 2GB is recommended.

Remember running Windows XP means that you are just as susceptible to viruses, trojans, spyware etc... as if you had a Windows PC.
The question you have to ask first, is why do you need to install Windows.

Which NAS you recommend for SMB backup storage

Synology and ReadyNAS would be my first choices in this category. I have and use both and love them. I've had quite good success with Buffalo as well with clients. Nearly all storage engineers that I know when choosing this type of storage, like Kooler, choice Synology and ReadyNAS.
For backups and archives specifically I have had good luck with Drobo too.

For me it's always between Netgear and Synology. Now I'm back to Netgears (being a green guy here I cannot tell reason in public).For anything bigger then 2 SATAs in RAID1 economically reasonable to "roll your own" backup appliance. Recycled Dell R7xx and again recycled Windows Server 2012 R2 (because of SMB3 and decent backup-ready dedupe) appliance is very hard to beat! Are there flip cases for iPod Touch? If so, which would you recommend?

I'm in the market for an iPod Touch. I'd like to get a case/cover for it that would function the way the flip cover did on the SONY Clie SJ33 or the Palm T3 worked... much like the communicators on Star Trek!
Does anyone make such an accessory? Are there certain ones you would recommend?

Well, I've received my brand new IPT and still don't have a case!
I've researched the cases suggested here (thanks for the tips!) and scores more (far too many). I cannot seem to find a flip case WITHOUT a magnet! And given what I've read in threads here, I really don't want to risk a several hundred dollar device with a magnetic clasp case. I realize that lots of folks use them without problems, but I keep finding posts from people who have real issues!
And strangely, the Apple Store carries most of the Marware cases EXCEPT FOR THE FLIP CASE (the one I was leaning towards), which is their only case with magnets! Is Apple trying to tell us something?
(I wish I had just bought the Belkin Folio case when it was free after rebate on Black Friday from Amazon!)
As a temporary fix, I've put some thin clear vinyl wrap around the IPT (left over from trials years ago with my Palms) and will jerry rig something with my Palm T3 flip cover-- it's perfectly sized and right form factor! A Palm iPod Touch!
I'm now debating a combo of Power Support Air Jacket with the Marware Flip Vue. And simply gambling on the magnetic clasp problem!
Any thoughts? Reactions? Am I way off base for worrying about the magnets?

Replace the SSD or External Memory which do you recommend?

Running low on storage on my MacBook Air (late 2011 model). Should I try to replace the SSD or just buy some form of external storage device? I'd at least like to add double the 128gb I currently have for < $250.00. If that's even possible. If not what are some of the recommended external drives I should check out?

I think the going price for a MBA 256GB drive is $300. Only you can answer the question as to whether it is better or not to replace the SSD. If you have data you don't need to carry around all the time (like movies, music and digital photos) then an external drive is viable. (You might also consider getting a high capacity flash drive to hold media files.) If you need everything that's on the computer then carrying an external drive around all the time is not viable.

Regarding EOS cameras, which would you recommend?

I've had a Canon T1i for almost four years now & I have someone who wants to buy it from me, so I with that in mind, i'm thinking about upgrading now. I guess I would say that i'm an intermediate photographer and I usually take landscape photos. I'm also very eager to learn how to take night photos like of city lights.

You don't seem to take a lot of action shots, and in fact you talk about shooting non-moving things like city lights and landscapes. You dont list video as being very important. You should be plenty happy getting a newer Rebel. The T5i is the newest at the moment. For what you are shooting and if you found a big savings you could go with a T4i or even a T3i, which all have a similar sensor. Unless you are shooting more action, you don't need to put a lot of money into the camera. Save money for improving your lens collection if you need to.
If you don't already have a good tripod (better than they stock at Best Buy) I would spend some money there. It would help with the city lights and landscapes, since you can shoot long exposures.

Adobe package; which do you recommend?

I am looking to buy an Adobe package for my 14 year ld son; he wants photo and video and music editing, as well as pdf facilities. Which ackage would you recomend?

It obviously largely depends at what level your son is currently at, as to what anybody can point you to with regards to appropriate software. As has already been said, the best idea would be to take advantage of the free trials for Photoshop, Elements etc etc.
Just to say, I have only recently moved up to Photoshop CS6. I began my photoshop 'journey' with Elements 8 and have used it for about the last four years. Elements seems to get much criticism for being thought of as just a toy, compared to the full version but I feel this is an exaggerated view. Sure, there are many things it cannot do (many ommissions only an intermediate or advanced level user might need) but that's why it is a fraction of the price of the full version. I think it makes complete sense to begin with a very reasonably priced, stripped down version of Photoshop, namely Elements, in order to develop some basic Photoshop skills, before taking the plunge into a more complete and sophisticated package such as Photoshop CS.
How would you feel if you went out and bought Photoshop CS straight away, then discovered your son rapidly lost interest? It makes much better sense to begin learning the basics of Photoshop, which he can do by using Elements, then move on to Photoshop CS when he is has reached a higher level.
I also have Premiere Elements for video editing and, like Elements, it can do a lot for a very reasonable price.
I can't advise about music software, this is not my area.

Mini vs. Quicksilver for pro apps--which would you recommend?

Hi all,
I've been running the Adobe CS2 Suite of applications (Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator) on my Mini 1.42GHz/1GB RAM with not very pleasant results. Even if only one of the apps is open at any given time, the performance is painfully slow and the spinning beachball is always making an appearance.
Now, I've also got a Quicksilver 2002 800MHz/1GB sitting currently collecting dust in a corner of my office. I "upgraded" from the Quicksilver to the Mini because I had grown sick and tired of the incredibly loud fan inside the Quicksilver.
My question is this: Should I bring the Quicksilver out of retirement to do the Adobe CS2 work? I realize that the machine only has an 800GHz processer versus the Mini's 1.42 GHz, but it (the QS) also has a 7200rpm hard drive versus the mini's 4800rpm hard drive.
If I use the QS instead of the Mini, will I see a performance increase, a decrease, or just about the same?
I'd love to hear feedback from any of you out there who have used both the Quicksilver and the Mini, especially in conjunction with Adobe CS2 or similar CPU-hungry pro applications.

I would agree with Doug - that typically for 'pro' application use, it would be better to use a 'pro' system, even if older.
As an example, I have a mini on my desk, running alongside a 6+ year old G4 tower. The G4 has had a second video card added to drive up to 3 displays, has had the original HD replaced by a high speed larger capacity unit, a second drive of similar spec has been added, a third SCSI drive is also in the system for booting specifically for photoshop, the RAM has been upped to 2Gb, and the original 450MHz processor has been replaced by a modest 1GHz unit. Total cost of the upgrades was less than the cost of a mini, the G4 is pretty much of similar 'speed', but the flexibility of the design allowing the additional and faster drives and video has made the G4 the system that gets used most when heavy duty workload is being done.
That's not to detract from the mini's great strengths - it's a fast, compact and powerful system for a wide variety of potential uses and that is more than ample for the majority of users. The only thing that lets it down is the lack of flexibility and expansion/upgrade options, and for pro users, those are often of great criticality.

So, they didn't do anything about it since original Z came out? If the problem is well known, it should be fixed :/ I just checked my Z2 against iPhone 5S with P5 headphones and since iPhone is not as loud as HTC One S, it is a noticeably louder than Z2.
Dedicated dac-amp sounds fine but it is another component and I would have to fit all this somehow in my pocket. Sounds like a bulky solution for on the go mode.
Anyone from Sony can say something about this?

Adobe Photohop for Mac, iDraw, or... for a MackBook Air 10.7.5? It doesn't have to have all of the bells and whistles. I have Corel on my reg desktop, not a Mac.. But am not familiar with what works best with this.

I'm an architecture student in my last semester, looking forward to buying a desktop Mac (for current and future use as a professional).
Sadly, for us architects we are limited with some mayor Architecture Programs such as 3Ds Max & Revit (both of which I use frecuently and have to use in a PC )
I have tried runing them in Parallels (in my MacBook Pro), but the result is slow and sluggish... so I plan on purchasing a new desktop computer as I believe these have more capacity to run this programs.
I would like to avoid using Boot Camp (hate having to restart the computer frequently) so if a Mac with be it Parallels/VMWare Fusion/CrossOver can do the job EFFICENTLY I would be happy.
So, which Mac model do you recommend for this case?
I'm undecided and would like some advice from you guys.
I'm not so limited on budget, but of course low cost would be appreciated.
If you could give some specific specs as RAM, Processor model, etc. that would help me more.
Im guessing the Power Mac is the best one...but just checking other opinions and answers.

Why not if you are going to run Windows pick up a PC with what you need?
The new mac pro 2013 won't be out for couple months and figure more time for software, even Fusion etc to catch up.
A VM is never going to be the same as running directly on the hardware natively.
The new Mac Pro though should be able to handle what you throw at it but even support for Windows could take time.
And looking at a new Mac operating system 10.9 Maverick. Windows 8.1 in same time frame.
If you do use a VM, install Windows natively to begin with and then attach the VM to point to it. There are times you need or want to run or apply updates natively.
The Mac has never had support for multiple high end graphic cards, no support for SLI and CrossFire-X, no 8-pin power connectors, if your software needs.
Mac Pro 2013 product page - new design and up to 12-cores and FirePro (2) GPU if you want to burn a pile of $$s.
