Which module SAP ABAP or SAP PS

Hi
I am Varun Maheshwari. I have done B.E in electrical and Electronics. I had experience of 1.8Yr in Project management as Project assistant in Centre for Wind Energy Technology(on Contract basis). My role was Planning of the project, Site selection- Pan India, Resource & inventory planning for installation purpose, Budgeting the project, Collection of the data and analysis, Report generation as per the analysis to the management and third party.  I am willing to pursue career in SAP domain but i am really confuse between SAP domain (SAP PS or SAP ABAP) which will be good if you consider growth & opportunities.
Please guide me considering Market Scenario, Future Growth & Recruitment Opportunities?
I will be highly thankful to you !!
Regards
Varun Maheshwari

Hi Varun,
Since you already have almost 2 years of experience in project management, it is better to capitalize on this experience by choosing a career relevant to your experience. This experience counts when you go forward in the same area (Project management).
In SAP, for project management there are three tools serving different business processes.
1) SAP PS (Project Systems)
2) SAP PPM (Portfolio & Project Management)
3) SAP CPM (Commercial Project Management)
In general it is better to start with SAP PS and then later on with SAP PPM which has very good integration with PS.
Coming to your query on future growth/recruitment opportunities.. There are lot of job opportunities for SAP PS in the market.. Any project in any company in this world requires a tool to monitor & review the project progress. Considering this organisation may use either SAP PS / PPM / Microsoft project / Primavera. But definitely organisations using SAP uses SAP PS for project management. So in short, there is no shortage of demand for SAP PS.
Considering your experience, I have given my opinion and it finally depends on you to choose a career in which you have passion.

Ravi

  • SAP-ABAP or SAP-BI/BW

    Hello All...
    need your help.
I am currently working on SAS technology as a SAS Developer. I want to learn SAP. But have confusion between SAP-ABAP and SAP-BI/BW.
Which one will be good for me? SAS gives me basic BI background so thought of BI/BW.
& Will I get job after the course completion. I am having 2.5 years experience on SAS.
    Please help..
    Thanks...:)

    Hi,
Module selection is totally depend on your interest.
ABAP - is purely technical and coding work. if you have strong skill on coding then you can choose ABAP module.
BW - its data warehouse. its techno-functional. You don't need any special skills to learn BW. its easy to  understand the BW concepts. As per business needs we need to design data flow by using BW architecture(extended start concept). After design of data flows we need to load the data from different sources and do the reporting by using Bex tools(Bex designer/analyzer).
    BW have 3 major areas.,
    1. Modeling/Designing.
    2. ETL - Extraction,transferring and loading
    3. Reporting - Bex tools.
    Thanks

  • What is best for my career: Sap ABAP or Sap BI

    Hi Experts,
I am Rajesh, done my bachelor degree in Information Technology,
having 4 years of Exp as a Mainframes Programmer in a Banking Software company.
    my job containts
    30 % understanding the product
    40 % Analysis
    30 % Programming
my career Goal is to get SAP job in Abroad(US/UK/AUS) for that i am planning like below:
First i want to gain some minimum(8-10 Months) Exp in India by
Choosing one Best(or)Hot Cake Module in SAP, which matches any one of 3 points
1)Currently that module should have more demand less supply.
    2)Should have good Future
3)it should not be much vast Because need to expertise Early
I already Trained and good in SAP-Core ABAP,
but just Core ABAP is not enough to get expertise in ABAP, because i need to add it with
    OOPS, Webdynpro, Workflow ETC.
even i Trained in all the above, it is difficult to be Expert in 1 YR.
and Hard to get job in US/UK/AUS.
So i am planning to go with SAP-BI for below Reasons
    1) SAP BI is not that much Vast compare to ABAP for becoming an Expert on it
    2) for Skill Set ABAP+BI, can have good openings
    3) SAP-BI is a techno functional Job, where ABAP is not a final Destination.
    4) in Future, BI will help to get into HANA.
I request you to guide me, whether my decision towards my Goal is correct or not,
if not, please give valuable Suggestions to reach my destination.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Rajesh

    Hi Rajesh,
as per as your selection of module, its a good mix, but i have a few words that i wants to share with you. Being a developer in sap abap i have come across some points where many indivisuals get strucked by asking what is next.
Started with sap abap you will have many options to go ahead, as you have seen that the combination of BI along with ABAP has an added advantages, and yes later on you can move towards HANA, one of the major sap module in which the database of sap persist in furure.
As far as i concern, if you wants to be in technical stream of sap you will have UI5, Webdynpro, Workflow, BW/ BI, HANA etc, so you may go ahead with these options, but as you have told that you wants to get hands on these things in one year, i think you have to devote in abap as much as possible
what you will require to know the syntax and semantics used in SAP, along with all the stuffs associated with it, once you will get familiar with it, you can play as you wants.
But one thing more is that its not mandatory to have sap abap knowledge to learn other technologies,  you can learn without abap, but if yiu have hands on in abap somehow it will boost your future in related technilogies.
So, finally your decision is on right track, what you will need is to get it as your passion.

  • SAP ABAP or SAP Functional???

    Hi all,
Im in SAP technical consultant since 16 months but i have observed that functional consultants have better prospects in career growth, im interested to switch to functional. Is this a right decision to switch to functional?
If yes, which module should i be traind in and any registered institute in bangalore providing the same.
And is it that only MBA candidates can go into functional?
And what will be my job profile after 2 yrs?? will it be SAP technical or SAP functional or SAP technofunctional and for which profile shuld i apply for?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
Both technical and functional has better career prospects. It depends on each person to which career path
he likes to take. If you are good at technical you should continue in the same. It is always better to be in
your strong area instead of moving to another area thinking of career prospects.
And to move to become a functional consultant you should have domain experience. It is not like
learning the technical things. You have to gain that through experience. With such a small experience of
16 months, i would say you continue for some more time there and learn the functional side of the
module that you are currently working on. If you move to the functionla side in same module, you
will be more comfortable. But if you are moving to a totally different module, domain experience
matters and the career prospects for you will be less with no domain experience.
And there is nothing like an MBA can only do functional. It is the domain experience matters, not really the degree.
And the profile after 2 years, you should decide which path to take. With the current profile , you will be a technical
    consultant.

    Leon

  • SAP Netweaver XI      VS      SAP ABAP       VS       SAP BW

    Hi Guys,
I'm an SAP BASIS administrator. But I am thinking of a career change in my company and if I will be given a chance, I am choosing between the three below.
    SAP Netweaver XI
    SAP BW
    SAP ABAP
I am confuse on which of these three is the best one.
I like BW because many says that this is very in demand.
I like ABAP because I love programming. But I am afraid that this will not be in demand in the future because of the (Netweaver - is it true?)
Lastly, knowing that Netweaver is new in SAP, I am thinking that this will be popular and in demand now and in the future.
Could you guys share your thoughts about this? Which one is the best to choose from the three.
    Thank you in advance.
    Erwin

    Hi,
In my view as you are already experienced in BASIS you shall go with it and cover the all stacks of NetWeaver and be the NetWeaver BASIS consultant. Here you can have exposure of all the stacks XI/EP/MDM etc and as a BASIS person you will have more opportunity as well if you are able to handle it.

  • From SAP ABAP to SAP FICO consultant

    Hi Experts,
Hope you all are doing good in your area.
I want your guidance for my sap career ahead .
I have 4 years of experience in SAP as an certified ABAP Consultant.
With  this year of experience I have worked on technical developments of  SAP PP/MM/FICO/SD  modules.
Now I want to move as an Functional Consultant for FICO module .
I had started working on the same.
But my doubt is whether I can go ahead as SAP FICO(ABAP) consultant .
I have programming background ,PG in Computer Application.
What are recruiters criteria for the same .
Can I go ahead as SAP techno functional consultant (ABAP/FICO).
    Need your guidance .
    Regards,
    Jeet

    hi Jeetendra,
I definitely see no harm in trying to be a FICO Consultant who knows ABAP (or vice-versa). I've seen some really crazy requirements come from recruiters and this combination was one of them.
Just to give you an idea, I've recruiters asking for ABAP with  BASIS, ABAP with SOA experience, ABAP with SCM, ABAP with PP-DS, ABAP with SLT etc apart from clubbing ABAP with any of the core Functional Modules.
So yeah, if FICO is your "thing" and you think it will be a cake-walk then go for it.

  • I have 3 +years of experience in SAP ABAP and BRFplus , want to move to australia from India.

    Hello Experts,
I have around 3.5 years of experience in SAP -ABAP and SAP-BRFplus . I am based out of india and want to move to Australia.I am trained in ABAP OOPs And Webdynpro. Have worked for around 3 years in Infosys Limited and currently working as Senior Business consultant in SAP ABAP in Ntt Data North America.
I am activly looking for moving to Australia.
So kindly let me know how to go for that.
    Regards,
    Khushbu

    Hi Khushbu
If you want to work in Australia you will need to research the different VISA laws etc. Trying to come "onsite" is a challenge. SAP job demand goes through cycles and sometimes it is difficult to find a position. You might want to look at the large consultancies and see if there is an opportunity for onsite work as part of the project (more than likely make sponsorship easier).
The difficult challenge - most times development work is sent offshore (not all places of course). The work kept in Australia is either they cannot outsource it (federal government and so you need to be an Australian citizen) or it will be more senior staff (10+ years experience). It doesn't mean the work isn't available but you might be competing with other established professionals.
    Regards
    Colleen

  • Which combination has best flavour M.Tech+SAP ABAP/BI Or else MBA+SAP ?

    Hello forks,
I shall be thankful if anyone can assist with me the below point --
Which combination has best flavour M.Tech+SAP ABAP/BI Or else MBA+SAP ?
    Regards,
    Tejas Oza.
<<Moderator Message: Look at Rahul's answer below. Thread Locked.>>
Message was edited by: kishan P

    Hi Tejas,
please understand one thing every technology requires its domain knowledge, when you are looking for abap side i don't think M.Tech will serve any purpose for it (yes it will gives you an exposure that you have masters degree), because being in sap abap primarly  requires basic coding skills, understanding its syntax and semantics, so being a B.Tech is enough.
When it comes to MBA + SAP, yes being an MBA you will be recognised as a domain knowledgable person in industry sector and hence you will get more exposure in it, so the option of MBA + SAP functional side is justificabe, but when it comes to choose a better option in between two, no one can decide it for you , because you know yourself better than anybody else, we just provide the information regarding anything, but its you who can judge yourself better.
So if you are crazy towards innovation, and coding is your passion you can opt for abap side, but if you don't like coding go to MBA + SAP functional side.

  • Sap career in which module - reg.

    Hello Guru's
This is challa, from Hyderabad, i have lot of doubts in choosing the sap career. I found many sap modules in which i can't find to choose.
i am working as a Logistics executive (import & Export) in a company, i am very much interested in SAP. My Aim is to get a job in SAP industry.
So, please suggest me sir which module is suitable to move forward in SAP, i am very much confused so please kindly help me sir.
now my age is 29 yrs is this age is write to get job in SAP. so please give me complete guidance  sir.
    Regards
    CHALLA

    Hi Sudhakar,
The best suitable module / system suits for you is SAP SD (cover logistics) & Foreign Trade and SAP Global Trade Services (Compliance, Customer, Risk Management.
SAP SD Covers logistic execution and Foreign Trade, however nowadays SAP trying to split all modules in big a way due to Globalization.  If you look at SAP SD - Foreign Trade that becomes SAP Global Trade Services as separate system.
The quite secret is domain experience never counts in IT industry but that would be an added advantage for your career as for my experiences in India and outside India.  Also, the companies first question is "Whether you have relevant SAP experience or are you holding any SAP certification" you can experience when you apply for a job.
Age side, there is no restriction of age to enter into SAP because when I studied in SAP Authorized Training Institute there were two guys whose age was 40 and 41 years and another two guys were 36 years old.  That was a great boost to me when I joined at 29 years to take a certification and I started my SAP career at 29 years only.
You know one thing, all those guys got a job in only in CMM Level 5 companies in India, you have to believe you and your passion, patience and perseverance end of the day.  Because those Mid 30 years and 40 years old guys were succeeded already then why can't you.
Our guys already pointed lot of things to you... Take a slow step one by one and try to get into SAP.  Do not urge you and take the step.  Do not leave your current job and take the step.  So, take it very slowly and precisely.
    How will I take step?
    1. Go to SAP Authorized Training and take a certification
    2. Go to SAP Training Training and Certification Shop and Take the training & certification.
    3. Be patient and apply the job and set your target (give 3 to 6 months time) to get into SAP or become SAP Consultant.

  • Want to learn SAP - which module should opt for...

one of my friend is in to Retail domain..non SAP Domain working with one retail channel as a store manager. ...Wants to learn SAP....which module should he go for..SD / CRM / or direct IS_Retail certification...as a fresher where he will be able to get chance...???
i am working as a SAP Recruiter in some company..so i am aware that there is not much demand for fresher in this industry..
    please guide...

Plenty of information about Retail education on <a href="https://websmp104.sap-ag.de/RETAIL">Service Marketplace - Retail</a> where you will find course descriptions.  For example:
This curriculum comprises an Overview Course (Level 2), which explains the main retailing processes in SAP for Retail, plus seven Detailed Courses (Level 3), which examine specific retailing processes and how these are mapped and controlled in SAP for Retail.
The Overview Course IRT100 (Retail Process Overview) explains the core processes of a retailing company. Based on a scenario in which merchandise is sold from stores, the course demonstrates how the store and distribution center are supplied with goods. Further process examples are the special cases of promotions and return of merchandise.

  • Which module under SAP is having much requirements in Software industries.?

    Dear Friends,
I am into Software industry from more then 4 years. And i am good at Software skills like Java/J2ee and also im very good at HR Management where i am handling resources and clients more ever im in even into Business development/ Account Management.
My profile is a mixture of all the stuff ie technical and non-technical. So i am confused at this stage in thinking like which module is good as per my profile.. And i want to take up course/module which is very HOT in IT market as off now. I mean having more requirements in India/Abroad/UAE as well. ie probability of getting job should be more.
I am even ok to go for modules like SD,MM, etc which is different from my profile.
IM TOTALLY CONFUSED AT THIS STAGE. REQUESTING you guys to help me out to choose my module under SAP.
    Regards,
    Ahmed.

Based on your description, I think BI upgrades might be of interest to you.
But based on your other "contributions" to SDN, my opinion is that you should perhaps consider a career in the agricultural sector.
I do both, and it works quite nicely to balance things.
    Cheers,
