Which motherboard supports i7 4930k out of the box?

Hi all,
I have an MSI X79A-GD45 (8D). I bought it when it came out a few years ago - before 4930k existed. It supports 4930k, but needs a BIOS update to do so. I tried performing the BIOS update myself, and bricked the board - both BIOS A and B. I tried two methods - the downloaded file from MSI, and the Svet tool from this forum. Both methods did the same thing - the flash process completed and I also saw the updating ME version dialog. After that it reboots and fails to boot. Everything lights up for literally 1 second and shuts off, and it gets stuck repeating that over and over.
I'm too impatient to RMA it, so I'm just going to go buy a new one. I was wondering if yall knew if the latest X79A GD45's have the latest BIOS updates on them, or at least new enough to support 4930k? If not, know of any mobos that do support it out of the box?

As already covered in the other thread you managed the impossible by bricking this board. All MSI X79 boards support an Ivy Bridge E cpu out of the box if it has been manufactured after the release of the supporting bios. However still there might be boards shelved at the resellers that were manufactured before. No model has been released after Ivy Bridge E launch as X79 is already quite dated. So there is no 100% chance while it is quite likely that most new retail boards for sale now will already support Ivy Bridge. Normally one could easiely update afterwards if obviously having a Sandy cpu like you do but seems as if you are too inexperienced to do that.

See the eDirectory documentation, where you'll find auditing described.

  • Which camera works out of the box?

    Hi.
I would like to add a webcam on an iMac G5. As iSight does not exist anymore could someone recommend a camera that works out of the box (=fully supported by Mac OS X). I would avoid using software like Macam and iChatUSBCam if possible...
I have found on the iChatUSBCam webpage that Mac OS X (>10.4.3) has built-in driver for the "Logitech QuickCam PRO 5000". Could someone confirm?

  • Which Linux Distro Works Out of the Box With the iMac late 2009 (11,1)?

Hi. I use all 3 OSes because the other two OSes have tool and games that are not yet in OS X; best of both worlds. Win 8 on Bootcamp is nice for games and utilities but I'm installing Linux too on a separate external drive. I've tried a lot of Linux distros but they all have the bug that prevents ths iMac 4850 mobility GPU to work (you need a second monitor to solve it which I don't have the space for and I only use Linux every so often) but have you tried a Linux distro Live CD/DVD that works flawless on this Mac without editing commands in Linux's GRUB console on Linux bootup?
If there's no distro that works out of the box, what's the closest distro that may only need a few adjustments on its boot menu (GUI preferably not console commands).
But if there's a distro, what's the distro name and exact version (link to download it too if it's alright with you)?
    Thank you in advance.
    God bless.

Hi, and thanks for you interest. The problems is that whether I'm using iMovie or FCE I get to a stage where the thumbnail image is present but if you try to play, import or any other action in either app it closes down and a message comes up " The Application Final Cut Express/iMovie quit unexpectedly - Mac OS X and other application are not affected" then asks if I wish to relaunch. I then hit the report to Apple button and afterwards relaunch. I was recommended to use Voltaic which I have tried, it worked but is to much mucking about for something that should work out of the box.
This problem happens on both the iMAC and the MacBook so quite sure it's not a OS software issue. All software update are up to date also.
    Any ideas?

  • Why Java Web Start doesn't support Pack200 out-of-the-box?

    Hello All,
Why Java Web Start doesn't support Pack200 out-of-the-box? I was hoping that Java 6 would make things easier by adding direct support for Pack200 in Java Web Start and JNLP without needing to use servlets, etc.? All my clients are Java 5 or above so I can't push the Pack200 compressed version of the jar to every single one of them and there is no selection process needed. But I can't do it because of the servlet or complex Apache server setup requirement (it would be a headache to get customers' web server admins to set up Apache or whatever web server that way).
My question is why is there unwillingness to add Pack200 support directly to Java Web Start and JNLP so that you can start Pack200 compressed jars just like you would start any jar using Java Web Start? Is te a technical problem?
    Thank you,
    Mete Kural

    Hallo,
I didnt try it, but the webstart FAQs read:
Can I use Pack200 compression with the JnlpDownloadServlet?
Yes. The JnlpDownloadServlet distributed in the samples directory of the JDK now supports Pack200. If you deploy yourfile.jar along with yourfile.jar.pack.gz the packed file will be downloaded when the client is running Java Web Start 1.5.0 or later.

For further information you may want to look at
    http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/guides/javaws/developersguide/downloadservletguide.html#pack200
The configuration of the server and the the servlet (as described in the second link) is as easy as it seems.
I got it working on the first try and it was my first experience with websevers at all.

The apple iPod would be my best guess, however I don't own any apple products!
Your question is now located in the webOS section of the HP Forum.  There were no webOS "PDA's", only phones and a tablet.

  • Does the K8N Neo-FSR support the mobile chip out of the box

    just like the titles says
does the K8N Neo-FSR support the mobile clawhammer out of the box.?
if not what bios would i need,. or can anyone confirm what bios is being shipped on these motheboards now.

    Jim,
From what I've read, there are updates to the memory controller and the addition of SSE3 support to Venice.  It's also reported to have some performance improvement over Winchester and Newcastle.  It will use a default 1.4v VCore.  Hopefully, It's power comsumption is on the same order as the 90nm Winchester's or less.
If Monarch is shipping the combo with available Bios, you can bet they work.  I'm thinking of giving them a call on mine to transfer the 2yr warranty to my youngest daughter (it's a graduation gift) and to discuss the Bios 3.3 vs. 3.3B3 issues.   They shipped mine with B3, and I think there may be a reason.  The B3 works great with a simple WPCRSET patch of the CAS to RAS Delay.  That's why you see those memory settings working on mine.
On the "boxed" vs. OEM, I think buying the combo with warranty and a better heatsink is a much better choice.  Use the Venus 7+ in my specs.  It's low profile, all copper, and one of the highest rated.  Monarch has it in their configurator.  It's as quiet as AMD's.  Monarch also gives you a 30 day free return with a Fedex prepaid shipping label in the package.

  • Buying New - Which models are Windows 7, 64-bit ready out of the box?

Have always had HP printers and love them.  In reading the posts many questions are for Windows 7 and existing printers.  I am in the market for a new inkjet for text.  Don't want an all-in-one.  Can anyone tell me which HP printer models are Windows 7, 64-bit ready out of the box?  Store personel readily point to the "Windows 7 ready" stickers on display models, however, look confused when I press the 64 vs 32 bit issue.  Thanks

Win 7 64-bit will install software and drivers written for Win 7 32-bit without any problems. I've presonally installed hundreds of printers on Win 7 64-bit without any problems. Do you have a specific printer in mind?

  • Intel(R) ESB2 SATA RAID Controller not working out of the box

    Dear all,
I'm using, for my tests, an old server with a supermicro X7DBN Server motherboard.
This motherboard comes with an embedded Intel(R) ESB2 SATA RAID Controller.
When I try a native installation from the technical preview DVD it sees the RAID1 volume that has been created (2 disk mirror) but when I select it to proceed with the installation there is an unknown error stating that it's impossible to write to this disk.
The same installation works perfectly with 2012R2 and the out of the box driver provided bin the install media.
An update from the previously installed 2012R2 to the Windows Server Technical Preview also works without problem.
It would make sens for MS to revert to the driver version embedded in 2012R2 for Intel(R) ESB2 SATA RAID Controller which is:
    Name : Intel(R) ESB2 SATA RAID Controller
    Date : 10.08.2010
    Version : 8.6.2.1025
    inf section : iaStor_Inst_RAID
    Device ID : PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2682&CC_0104

    Hi,
Thank you for the information. As you said from the behavior it seems that the build-in drivers of Windows Server Technical Preview will not work with the specific motherboard hence the RAID1 cannot work well.
    I'll log the issue down.

  • Help Please - on a VC that works out of the box with MAC before I sellup

I have to declare that I’m somewhat frustrated at the moment and I could do with some good advise please bare with me while I explain.
I have recently converted from all types of PC systems and MS OS to Apple. The conversion was based on a few drivers.
1, My wife finally has decided to “learn” how to do her own web work instead of asking me to look up this or that for her. So as she was starting from scratch I thought MAC.
2, At the same time I had a play with Vista at work and disliked it. I was using XP & W2K at the time.
3, I wanted to update my home hardware, which was 3 years old.
4, The accountant said I hadn’t spent enough on IT last year.
5, New project work in the planning that required video/audio work to upload onto the web and everyone said MAC was the best.
So having looked around and done what I thought was enough research I started investing. To date I’ve invested £4500 plus.
    Started by buying
iMAC 24” 2.8 Gz Intel with 4GB ram (for the home office)
MacBook Pro 2.4 with 4GB ram (for out and about working)
    iPHONE 16GB (which is great)
VMware Fusion was installed for those things that I couldn’t live without until I found a suitable replacement like MS Money, Paint Shop Pro, MS Office etc. Installed XP.
Tried Open Office found it to clunky and hard work working off files for MS Office that others sent/required. Ended up buying Office 2008 only to find VB macros don’t work in Excel and all my company spreadsheets still need PC MS Excel to run so back into XP via Fusion.
Then to MAIL which is great on the iPHONE as I can easily monitor my 5 email accounts, what a result. But now I come to attach JPG files as I would in outlook and they open into the content of text in the mail and will not stay closed but disrupt the message. Wholly unacceptable to my way of working with no cure.
Scanning next, so I down loaded GIMP to replace PSP which I find useless so back to PSP I go again via XP & Fusion.
Next and finally the VC project, Now please bare in mind that all I want to do is shoot film, upload it to edit it and then mount it on the web page. I have no desire to become any form of expert in the field just get the job done.
So reviewed iMovie to understand the spec. Realise it has limitation and reviewed FCE which seems to plug the gaps and boarders on being more professional.
At this point I must say I’m not totally new to this subject as I have used Studio8 and a JVC GR-DVL166EK video cam a couple of years ago and got on ok without any issues simple plug and play with great results.
Having reviewed the standards that the software is reported to work too without any publicly declared exclusions or exceptions by Apple I went shopping for the VC. (I didn’t know of the forum at the time and to the best of my knowledge Apple don’t advise of its existence in any product information on anything I have bought.)
I buy a Panasonic HDC-HS9 for £700 which doesn’t flaming work despite the fact that it should based on all the standards quoted by both manufactures and there are no disclaimers from either party that it won’t work.
I have reviewed the compatibility list on the support page (now I know its there) and find that the Panasonic HDC-SD5 does work. I reviewed the comprehensive detailed model spec on the Panasonic web site and there is no differences between the to models at all accept the HDD.
    So why don’t it work?
*At the end of the day can anyone please recommend a VC that will produce high quality results without the need of a 3rd party software to connect and upload files convert and muck about instead of getting on with the job.*
And if all the publicised specs don’t allow you to conclude compatibility how can you protect your investment? Where do we legally stand and where is the accountability to the consumer.
    <edited by host>
I am that fed up with the last 3 months of mucking about Bill Gat*es may just get me back.
Thanking anyone in anticipation for some meaning advise and help.
    Regards
    Alan

  • Dynamic DNS (via DHCP) out of the box?

    Greetings!
I was just wondering... Does OS X support Dynamic DNS updates out of the box?
I can't seem to find any confirmation if 10.5 uses bootpd (which I think it does), and if bootpd supports dynamic DNS updates with the named service built into Leopard Server. There don't seem to be any options in Server Admin to enable this... So I'm a little hazy as how to enable dynamic DNS without compiling my own version of ISC-DHCP.
Just for clarification here; what I'm looking for is the ability to update a DNS zone with a PTR/A record(s) of machines that send a hostname as a part of retrieving a IP address from a DDNS-enabled DHCP server. Ie, "mybox" requests IP from DHCP server, DHCP server updates "mydomain.tld" with a record for "mybox", so that "mybox.mydomain.tld" is resolvable afterwards by the machines on this subnet.
    Cheers,
    -SC

This is a strange topic because implementing Dynamic DNS on Mac OS X Server looks like it should be child's play... so why hasn't Apple done it? Could it simply be that Apple sees no need for it at this time? Mac OS X clients don't need it to sit happy with a Mac OS X Server. Neither do Windows clients using a Mac OS X Server PDC.
Apple has implemented Dynamic DNS client support into the Active Directory Plug-in in Leopard. In this environment, of course, the client's DNS server is most likely to be an Active Directory-integrated DNS server which happily support DDNS. Unfortunately this Dynamic DNS facility is not immediately available to those not using the Active Directory plug-in.

  • IPod Touch 1st Generation doesn't work directly out of the box?

I just bought a first generation iPod touch and first things first I plug it into my PC. Nothing happens on the iPod and on iTunes I immediately get a message saying "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore it before it is usable with iTunes." So I hit OK and click yes to the message about restoring it to its factory settings, considering that's how it should be anyway since I had literally just taken it out of the box. I finally get a reaction from the iPod, and it's a solid white screen followed by the apple logo, and then for about 5 minutes iTunes says it's "prepaying the iPod for restore..." followed by the error message "The iPod "iPod" could not be restored, an unknown error occured. (1604)" Then the iPod disconnects from iTunes and proceeds to be frozen at the Apple logo screen. I have looked at all the troubleshooting walkthroughs and none of them work because I have never seen a screen on the iPod other than the Apple logo, it seems as though the only way to fix this is if I just take it back and get a replacement
