Which MSI desktop board for new INTEL 1270.v3 build

Gents:
Intend replacing  faithful legacy AMD965 system  with an upgraded version of  last years build:
INTEL 1240.v2
MSI Z77a.gd55 BIOS 1.2
NV 660 + 27" Auria
2x 1T HDD + 24-Gig Crucial ram
Running Ubuntu 14.04LTS .. which system supports  both simulation & Apache OO software. This newer build  listed above has performed flawlessly W/O  brickworthy BIOS update.
I have limited finance, non-gamr and am VERY risk adverse. I intend the new build to run an INTEL 1270.v3 CPU. I trust MSI products, but  cannot find reference/review to a desktop  MSI motherboard to support this CPU and support it OOTB!  Any clue appreciated.

I have never understood why BIOS chips aren't all  pop-in/pop-out replaceable. Then a screwdriver and $30 check to BADFLASH would update the BIOS with the threat of bricking a system that might take weeks/months to reconstruct. That's just panding to DELL/HP/LENOVA/MS & a bad attitude from the mobo manufactures.
I will take your advise and look for recently manufactured boards, tho getting a serial number from NEWEGG  or TIGER DIRECT would be like getting a Lords-prayer from Beelzebub!

I can't recommend any particular MB for you but can just say do some research on MSI website for Z87/97 MBs for BIOS vs CPU support. Also keep in mind that recently manufactured MBs will have the later BIOS on them from the factory. You can determine if the MB you decide on has a later BIOS from the serial number if the store you buy it from will provide you the S/N (from date code in S/N) when purchased. Flashing the BIOS if needed isn't quite as bad as it might seem if you ask for help on this forum before attempting to do it. There's a right way and wrong way to do it and using Live Update is by far is the worst way, instant expensive paperweight is the usual result by using Live Update.

  • Can you swap G5 PPC logic board for an Intel board?

If....and I'm hoping not....I have to get a new logic board for my G5 is it possible to sawp it for an Intel version? I mean, is it possible? I'm aware of the cost and such (Procs, memory) in addition but, may possible be tempted to do it if it's do-able.

Negative, the cases look similar but internally are EXTREMELY different. Even the later ( late 2005 ) G5 are internally different than the earlier G5.

  • Best board for New Core 2 Duo SYS ?

Hello I have built system for many years but have never used a MSI board but Your new Boards look very Good I am on a limited budget now . I am looking at either the Asus P5B-E or the MSI boards , The msi boards sound very interesting to me and I love this forum for extra support any help would be appreciated , The one I am really interested in is the 975X Platinum  Thanks George

Then I suggest the P965-Platinum, if you want an MSI board... Unless you wanna go with the PowerUP X975 board ...
It can reach at least 360MHz stable, which is more than the Neo board, but it's a lot cheaper than the PowerUP ed. board ...
Also, that will earn you an OC of 800 MHz with the E6400, which is a lot better than nothing
BUT, remember that the board is far from the best, and that E6400 will at 360MHz FSB NOT have reached it's max. potential

  • Can't install MSI Live Update for new bios

    Hi all,
sad to say, I too have the problem of MSI Live not installing.
Just bought a GTX 970 Gaming 4G and the Live update says "this platform is not supported". I tried the version from the disc and the version offered by the MSI support site. Both led to the same experience.
Would be great if you could help me out checking my bios and providing me with the newest one if needed.
(Instructions would be great though too )

Thank you for the information flobelix!
Whats bothering me now is the Live update.
Can I ignore that or should i wait for a new version?
    Additional info:
    Netframework 4.5.2 is installed.
Board: ASRock ZH77 Pro3, latest bios installed.

  • Suggestions for new Intel Core i7 Extreme PC?

    Hi all,
I'll be buying a new editing PC with the Intel® Core i7 Extreme 3.2GHz processors. Rather than build it myself, I'm looking for a fast and reliable PC from a manufacturer. For several years I used Dell workstations ... and they were stable, but not so fast.
The reason I'm switching is that Blackmagic hardware doesn't like Dell MOBO.
Any recommendations? Any opinions on Alienware? They seem a bit expensive, but are reported to be fast.
    Thank you for your input!
    Robert

    Robert, look at http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b70da3/0
Unfortunately, the chips and motherboards to use two i7's will not be available until that nebulous "first quarter 2009"
Here is one preliminary benchmark: "Early tests conducted with Intel's upcoming Nehalem-based Xeons by TechRadar today show the processor running approximately twice as fast as its current equivalent. Based on the same basic design as Core i7 mainstream chips, a pair of 2.8GHz quad-core Xeon X5560 chips received a SPEC score of 160 in floating-point math tests versus 90 for two 3.4GHz Xeons from the current generation."

  • Which IDE is better for new to Java?

    netbeans?eclipse?JB?

well, I'm new to java too , but no to using IDEs,
and my impressions are the following:
Java creator is a great, great tool, but it lacks the
"easiness" of eclipse, it's more focused on the 'web
side' of the Java technology, not too much for the
    standalone app creation[IMHO].
Eclipse is great too, but it needs more work in the
    GUI 'design time' subject.
Both offer great features, and both have tons and
tons of tutorials for beginners and i think the best
tool is that which makes you feel more comfortable
with it , in my [really really short] experience, i
have used both and honestly, i feel more comfortable
working with eclipse, but i keep using both.

[real name]If you are new to java you should be using a notepad ( or maybe a simple text-editor ) not an IDE!

I know this is a bit above the $150 mark, but really anything less than that wouldn't be worth it.
To compare, the 7450 scored 319 points on the Passmark test, where as the 650 scored 1831.
It most likely won't be able to play it maxed out on settings, but should handle the games decently on medium.
Thoughts/criticisms from others welcome, if they can find something better.

  • Which E-SATA card for new Mac Pro??

I have the new Mac Pro 8-core 2.26GHz (Nehalem) and need to connect my two Western Digital drives via their E-SATA ports for video editing.
I bought a Sonnet Tempo card, having being led to believe this was one of the better cards, but sadly when I installed it, it didn't work. Careful reading of the small print on the Sonnet website informed me it wasn't actually compatible with the new MacPro.
Could someone recommend a E-SATA card (2 ports) for use with my system. I'm struggling to find one.
    Cheers
    Keith.

I have the new Mac Pro 8-core 2.26GHz (Nehalem) and need to connect my two Western Digital drives via their E-SATA ports for video editing.
    Hi,
Unfortunately, the WD MyBook is not ideal for video editing. The enclosures use a bridge board that splits the connection between USB/FireWire/eSATA. This type of connection usually slows eSATA performance and is not compatible with all eSATA controllers. As a result, starting with the WD MyBook puts eSATA users at a disadvantage.
I agree with hatter that you would be better off with the Sonnet Tempo E4P and the FirmTek SeriTek/5PM. You could still use the WD MyBook as a backup device.

    http://www.amug.org/amug-web/html/amug/reviews/articles/firmtek/5pm/
    http://firmtek.stores.yahoo.net/sata5pm.html
FirmTek sells a 2-port card with the SeriTek/5PM, but as it is Silicon Image SiI3132 based, performance will be limited to approx. 135MB/sec. with a single cable. If a dual bay direct connect enclosure like the SeriTek/2EN2 is used the RAID 0 performance will be approximately 150MB/sec. when the volume is empty.
Moving up to the Sonnet Tempo E4P can provide 210MB/sec. write and 250MB/sec. read performance with the SeriTek/5PM and a multi-drive RAID 0 configuration.
Most users interested in video editing are looking for high performance. However, if you don't need a high performance RAID, a 2-port card like the SeriTek/2SE2-E will do the job.

  • Which version of windows for new 09 white macbook?

    Hi all-
I just bought the new 09- 13" white macbook. My wife needs some really basic MS office stuff- just word and excel- for her work so we're looking at buying some version of windows or office or something. I know with Bootcamp we can use windows, but I only want/need the most stripped down version I can get away with and still have word and excel.
What should I buy? I see Windows XP for under $100. Office for mac is more expensive. Again- just really need word and excel, so any opinions?
    Thanks!
    -Danny

For my 2 cents, Office for Mac is the "pits". Most of the reviews give the program high ratings, but my rant with the program is that the "learning curve" is more than I want deal with. I bought the program and every time I open it up, I have to hunt for menu items that I can find in a flash with the Windows version. The Word program is not as bad as the Excel program (which I find almost unusable). If you're going this route, I would strongly advise checking it out before shelling out cash. The Excel program definitely ***** IF you're transferring files back and forth from Windows.
After my experience, I went with Parallels 4.0 (virtual machine) and loaded Vista Home Premium. It runs fine, but I probably should have gone with XP. I'm running my '03 Office there and it works fine.
If you're willing to take on this learning curve with Windows for Mac, that's probably one of the cheapest ways to go. I think the Home version is around $75.

  • Which software is essential for new Mac user?

I just recieved an attachment in Yahoo that I could not open.It appears the issue is opening documents and attachments from Windows based machines. Would iwork be sufficient or do I need Microsoft office? I would prefer to keep Microsoft products off my Mac! What other software do I need for emails, internet etc.?

Hi 1grandidle1: Difficult to determine what might be needed to open the attached file in the email without knowing what file type it was. However, if you are attempting to keep MS products of your computer (Don't blame you) you might want to check out Apple's iWork (new version released). Or a free alternative is NeoOffice. Both of these products are capable of opening MS Office file types.

  • Documentation required for NEW OBIEE implemenation

    hi,
which documentation are required for NEW OBIEE implementation? what r their standard formats/template (ie. AIM )
Any one have sample doc for it? What is presales demo?

    Hello,
Greetings! I downloaded the documentation library for OBIEE 11g as zip file on my win 7 (64 bit) machine. I did the extraction. It took more than 1 hour to extract. It was accessing the oracle site during extraction.
Is it normal? Why does it go to oracle site for ZIP file extraction?
It created multiple folders. I find some HTML file on the root folder of documentation on my desktop. If I open it, it shows all the documentation of Oracle products. If I click the links, it will not open the respective documentation.
I did not find any getting started guide for OBIEE there.
    Any thoughts?
Could you let me know the relevant OBIEE documentations for learning OBIEE 11g?
What is the recommended sequence of going through OBIEE documentations?
    Thanks in helping me out.

  • Compatiability to run Windows on New Intel Macs

Is it the plan for new Intel Macs to be able to run Windows-based programs without having to run emulation programs like VPC?

I work in Environmental Science and the amount of
programs for presenting and manipulating data are few
    and far between.
Have you looked here for software that you might be able to use?
Wouldn't this approach open up a lot of avenues for
Apple and make switching to Apple easier for people?
Perhaps, or it could make people think of a Mac as just an expensive Windows PC. And developers could say, "If Macs run Windows, then let's save some money by not making a Mac version of our software." And consumers will probably post questions here about how their Windows program won't run right on their Mac, or call Apple asking for Windows support, or get all upset because Windows crashed their Mac and erased all their data and blame it on Apple...
Apple has said that they will do nothing to prevent Windows from running on Intel-based Macs, but they will also do nothing to facilitate it. This means that if it is at all possible to run Windows on your Intel-based Mac, doing so will be totally unsupported by Apple.
