Which Name Service for Solaris installation behind router?

I want to install Solaris on my computer in a small home LAN behind a router.
The Solaris computer is not part of a zone, a domain and there is no own DNS server in LAN.
I want Solaris to get the DNS from router which in turn gets the DNS server assignments from network provider.
This is similar to a Windows installation which gets the current DNS servers defintion from network provider at connection startup.
Now what do I have to select during Solaris installation? See attached snapshot
I guess LDAP, NIS and NIS+ are not suitable.
Do I have to select "None"?
Does DNS mean "own DNS server in LAN" or "DNS from router" (as intended)?
Thank you
Peter

Hello
I don't know you home setup but in general you will have to use DCHP so solaris will get all info from the route the ip and dns etc..
If you want to use a static ip you will have to config the DNS by hand.

  • No Disk meet the criteria for Solaris installation

Hi all, I have a problem when trying to install Solaris 8 (Intel) on my PC. There are some funny things happened while installing the OS.
1.) My motherboard does not support booting from CD-ROM, so I downloaded a Device Assistant Boot Disk to boot it up. Then I use dd.exe to make the boot disk from the image, I have tried many times that after creating the boot disk, this boot disk will contain 512 bytes of bad sector. So why?
2.) After using this boot disk to boot up and install the OS, before entering to the detection of the bus type stuff (still on the white screen), at the bottom of the screen, it says "ata_command select failed ... ...", what does this mean?
3.) When the system go back to the white screen with language selection, I choose English (which is 1), and the system try to find my hard disk, but it failed and says "No Disk meet the criteria for Solaris installation" with a new line saying "installation documenation found.". So what is happening?
    Appreciate for any help.

what could be the problem? The installer is actually a self-extracting Zip-archive. It tries to unpack
itself into /var/tmp/something-random, before starting the actual
    installation.
If you do not have enough free space in /var/tmp, try creating a temporary
directory somewhere else, move the installer into the new directory, and do
an 'unzip server70..............bin'. Once you have unzipped the installer,
I think you can look in a file called AUTORUN or something for the java
command to run the installer manually.
    Good luck,

  • Business system name important for IDoc scenario message routing?

    Hello all,
    I have following problem.
I have to setup with our client an IDoc scenario which is a little difficult.
The client sends project IDocs from Client ERP system to his own XI system next to our XI sytem and at last Internal Order IDocs to our ERP system. We use for each environments (DEV, TEST, PROD) a separately SLD, the client a central SLD. In each environments we use the same business name for our XI system "BS_XI". Now the problem. The client aren't able to configure two times the same business name "BS_XI" for routing to our TEST respective Production environment. DEV will not used. I know the B2B scenario should be used in this case but i have no chance to think about this. Manager decision!
So what can be the workaround.
I think about to provide our client a different Business system name "BS_XI_PROD" with different technical system informations for our PROD environment. So for my understanding, the business system name is unimportant in this case, important here the technical informations which you are able to see in "Display Adapter-Specific Identifiers". Technical system, Port and RFC configuration.
The namings convention for Business system is unimportant in this case, yes?
    Many thanks in advance!
    Regards,
    Jochen

    Dear Jochen,
Can you please clarify a bit? Is it a problem between customer's XI system and your XI system?
I think you can use Parties here. In the Party you can define some additional identifiers, with which you can differentiate the incoming IDocs.
(e.g.: in the identifiers tab, Agency=BS_XI, Scheme=ALE#KU (defined in the customer's partner profile), Name=a defined name in the IDoc control record)
So with this you will have a "Business System+Party" as an identifier, where you can use several parties with the same business system.
    I hope it helps!

In Windows Event long I can see the following events logged:
    Event 3002, Port Map:
Windows(R) failed a request to register RPC Port Mapper on TCP port 111.  RPC Port Mapper cannot start.
Network File System (NFS) clients use RPC Port Mapper (also known as Portmap and Rpcbind) to discover NFS protocols on remote servers.  Without RPC Port Mapper, Server for NFS
cannot start and NFS clients cannot access files on this server.
Verify that no other software is registered on TCP port 111, then start Server for NFS manually (which will also start RPC Port Mapper).
    Event 7000, Service Control Manager:
The Server for NFS Open RPC (ONCRPC) Portmapper service failed to start due to the following error:
A device attached to the system is not functioning.
    Event 7001, Service Control Manager:
The Server for NFS Driver service depends on the Server for NFS Open RPC (ONCRPC) Portmapper service which failed to start because of the following error:
A device attached to the system is not functioning.
    Event 7001, Service Control Manager:
The Server for NFS service depends on the Server for NFS Driver service which failed to start because of the following error:
The dependency service or group failed to start.
Based on a technet forum I have already checked and made sure there is no other service running on port 111 (command used is netstat -a -b -o).
    Dependent Service Status:
During the installation process “Client for NFS” seems to have gone well and the service started successfully. But the “Server for NFS” failed, when checked for the status of the dependent process “portmap” service failed to start with the WIN32_EXIT_CODE
“31 (0x1f)”. Please find below the query result.

As the EXIT CODE is 31 ( A device attached to the system is not functioning), I have checked device manager and made sure there is no yellow warning shown against any hardware device. Further I am not sure how to proceed and debug this issue.
Please let me know if you have any suggestion on how debug this issue further.

My solution was to run netstat -ano to identify what process was running on port TCP/UDP :111, then with the command tasklist I got PID matching with the task name. Once identified I stopped the process, rebooted and installed
the NFS service. On top of that, before installing NFS services I disabled firewall and antivirus. It worked fine for me. I hope this will be usefull for you. By the way, don't forget to enable all process back!
    Have a good one!

  • Install MS windows Service for WLS_REPORTS

    Hi
Have installed MS windows Services for WLS "AdminServer" and "WLS_FORMS".
When installing the service for "WLS_REPORTS" installation end up with "The input line is too long"
    from "C:\Oracle\Middleware\wlserver_10.3\server\bin\installSvc.cmd" on
    set CMDLINE="%JAVA_VM% %MEM_ARGS% %JAVA_OPTIONS% -classpath \"%CLASSPATH%\" -Dweblogic.Name=%SERVER_NAME% -Dweblogic.management.username=%WLS_USER% -Dweblogic.management.server=\"%ADMIN_URL%\" -Dweblogic.ProductionModeEnabled=%PRODUCTION_MODE% -Djava.security.policy=\"%WL_HOME%\server\lib\weblogic.policy\" weblogic.Server"
problably because of the CLASSPATH too long.
How to solve this or any workaround?
Do I have to include all jars in the classpath?
    Regards
    Tobias

It is not working for me.
I created an external file class.txt. It has:
    set CLASSPATH=%WEBLOGIC_CLASSPATH%;%CLASSPATH%
    Then I updated installSVC.cmd:
    set CMDLINE="%JAVA_VM% %MEM_ARGS% %JAVA_OPTIONS% *-classpath @C:\class.txt* -Dweblogic.Name=%SERVER_NAME% -Dweblogic.management.username=%WLS_USER% -Dweblogic.management.server=\"%ADMIN_URL%\" -Dweblogic.ProductionModeEnabled=%PRODUCTION_MODE% -Djava.security.policy=\"%WL_HOME%\server\lib\weblogic.policy\" weblogic.Server"
It creates the service, but when I try to start it, I receive:

  • Create an SMF service for 9.1 with asadmin create-service

I'm using root to create a SMF service for Solaris 10 08/7 X64 with command: asadmin create-service and always get
"The user [#root] does not seem to have adequate authorizations [solaris.smf.*] on this System"
I then tried something like # usermod -A solaris.smf.* root and system told me solaris.smf.* is not a valid authorization.
    Can some help please?
    Thanks a lot!

FOR GOD's SAKE, PLEASE MOVE to http://forums.java.net/jive/forum.jspa?forumID=56, I can't keep up with so many discussion forums.
I need to understand the exact environment.
You should have solaris.* privileges if you are a root user on your system. solaris.* implies solaris.smf.*.
    Please update.
    Regards,
Kedar, the original implementor of this command.

  • Solaris Name Service Cache and Directory Proxy Problem

We have some Solaris 10 clients ldapcliented to a Directory Proxy Server. After 15 minutes, the Solaris name service cache will fail to communicate to the proxy instance and the proxy instance's readconnectionsrefused attribute will start incrementing.
At first it seemed we would need to increase the worker-threads and num-bind-limit, but those do not fix the problem.
At the same time the name-service-cache starts failing, I am still able to query and search the proxy. I have set up a Jmeter test which continues to run and they never fail.
It seems very consistent that the problem with the name-service-cache occurs every 15 minutes and I am able to reproduce this at the client's site and in my lab. Restarting either the proxy or the name-service-cache clears the problem.
Has anyone else seen this problem?

The idle-timeout on DSEE was set to none, which I believe is the default. I tried setting it to 1200 and 2400 seconds without success.

    Hi,
I am are not able find the installer for OSB 2.6 for solaris 10(64 bit).
Where can I find the same?
    Thanks in Advance.

Don't know what a service id is, but you will need to be an oracle customer, which I assume you are if you are requesting old software.
here is the link I use
    https://metalink2.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/f?p=130:14:5775706955868202591::::p14_database_id,p14_docid,p14_show_header,p14_show_help,p14_black_frame,p14_font:NOT,763603.1,1,1,1,helvetica

  • Forgot To Add Name Service When Setting Up Preinstalled Solaris 10

    I just got a Sun Ultra 40 M2 Workstation.
I'm using the workstation to run a Java SE application that has clients connect to a serversocket using my static IP address.
I have the system currently set up and running on my windows xp pc.
So I have all the info from my ISP and I hooked up my int to the eth conn on my sun workstation.
Then I cut on the WS and it took me through the set up.
I said no to the DCHP and entered my static IP address and my submask address and it correctly found my broadcast IP upon rebooting.
But I said NONE to name service when I should have said DNS and entered the 2 addresses I have from my ISP.
Now when I get my Java Desktop the little monitor icons show up in the lower right hand corner and when i click on it it say IDLE but has my correct IP Broadcast and sub mask.
But my browser will not pull up web sites.
I need to add the name service DNS and enter my 2 addresses.
I also have the media disks.
Do I have to reinstall or can I just add the name service somehow?
I tried clicking F2 when restarting the system but do not know enough about it to get back to the set up.
    So can anyone help me.
I think I will just reinstall in time if i can't get help but since the solaris 10 was preinstalled I think there is probably a way to go through the set up again but can not figure out how.

i added /etc/defaultrouter file with nothing but the default gateway ip in it
and just took the domain myhostname line out of the resolv.conf file leaving
    nameserver 111.222.333.444
    nameserver 222.333.444.555
also saved the nsswitch.dns to the nsswitch.conf file.
when i restarted it acted better and i was able to ping the gateway address which i could not before.
but still can not ping the static ip.
when i click on the icon it has the right ip and subnet mask listed.
    any ideas?
i am running out of google lol.
no one at comcast has ever heard of Solaris and when i call support at Sun they just said we'll call back and sent an email saying it will be $700 to say hello after i just gave them 7k lol so screw that.
geuss i'll just relax and keep googling.
    thx for the responses.
