Which NIC should I buy for Oracle Linux Server 6.4

Hi,
I am trying to install Oracle RAC 11g R2 onto my laptop PC - Lenovo T400s. I have installed Oracle Linux Server 6.4. The OOTB NIC was recognized by OS and eth0 is fine but I need one more NIC for RAC. RAC needs two NIC for public IP and private IP. Now I want to buy NIC for either USB or express card for the second NIC but I don't know which one to buy. Most of NICs that I find on the Internet is supported by Windows or Mac but I could not find any that says it is supported by Linux. Could someone tell me which one I should buy so I can download driver from the company website and compile from source hopefully..

you can build a rac on 2 laptos, sure
are some requirments , like shared storage
RAC will take, RAW device, block device, that can be SCSI, SAS, iSCSI, or lun by fiber channel, here in your setup, you wioll need to read about iscsi and use an storage
other option is use NFS, this will be more easy to implement.. if you have a 3rd machine you can setup it as NFS and mount the NFS int he 2 laptos

Which file must i download for Oracle Linux

Hi.
I have decided to download Oracle Enterprise Linux 6 on vmware.
But when i look Oracle's edelivery site.

Above there is a sign ;
TIP View the Readme file(s) to help decide which files you need to download.
But in readme file dont mention for these files. Only say "You don't need to download source files".
What is the difference between first and second file? Which one must i download ?

Which camera should I buy for a first timer

Hello everyone. This is my first post here. I am a 22 year old student at a college majoring in electronics and communications. Soon as am done with college am moving to a film school to learn about filmmaking. However, right now am educating myself with filmography and video shots by reading books. The only thing left for me is buying a camera. Which camera do you guys recommend me buy for a first timer ? Same thing with accessories. My budget is 1000 USD

Do you guys think I shoud start with a camcorder or a DSLR for a starter who wants to learn filmography?

This is a slightly complicated question.
A camcorder is specifically designed for video. But a DSLR camera is designed for still image and can also shoot video.
But there is one reason why video users are extremely interested in DSLRs... and that has to do with the lenses.
There's a massive number of lenses available for DSLR cameras on the market. For many camcorders, you lens isn't removeable -- the lens it comes with is all you get. For those with removeable lenses, the selection is limited and they tend to be expensive (economies of scale). If you want to draw a viewer's attention to a subject by using selective focus, then you'd want a narrow depth of field and draw to the focus to your object of interest within the frame... there are many lenses for DSLR cameras that can do that. But with a camcorder, your ability to create strong out-of-focus areas is more limited due to the lenses.
So... apart from the lenses (but that's a _really_ big deal), just about everything else about a camcorder is better for shooting video.
When displaying video digitally, a 1080p image is 1920x1080 -- or about 2 megapixels. All the recent Rebel bodies can record 18 megapixel images (for still photos). This means the camera has to resample the image for video purposes. The sensor wasn't really designed for that non-stop extended recording use and it can get hot. Hot can mean noise in the image. Camcorders are designed for extended recording and tend to not get hot.
Watch any high-end film and count the number of seconds before you see the camera angle change. You'll likely notice that the angle is changing faster than every 10-15 seconds. It changes all the time. A 30 second clip would be _really_ long. They tend to take lots of short clips and weave them together to make a story. The need to shoot a birthday party whilst walking around with a camera for 20 or 30 minutes in one really really long clip just isn't done in a pro video world.
If you do decide to go with a DSLR, I'd nudge you toward the T5i because of it's hybrid AF system and ability to exploit full-time auto-focus (although in pro video you may find yourself doing manual focus more often then you might guess) with the silent focus motors of the new STM lenses that are so quiet the in-camera microphone cannot detect any noise from them.
The 70D also promises to be a very good camera for video but has not yet started shipping (pre-orders are available) -- but it's also out of your price range.

Which computer should I buy for a server?

I have a small office, of about 10 people. My current server is a TiBook 400. I'm thinking of upgrading it. I currently am using DayLite, and I'm experiencing lots of kernal panics on the client machines. Someone from their support site told me that the hang up is with the internal drive on my server, being a 5400rpm drive on the powerbook.
Can anyone recommend what I should buy? Is there an advantage to buying a dual gig desktop? Do you think I need an Xserve? What about changing my softer to osX server? Any advantage? I welcome all advise. I thought about the new 100 GIG 7200 RPM 2.5" drive, but I figure, If I'm going to make a change, perhaps it's time for a desktop, or something more appropriate. As mentioned, I'm a small shop, so no large budget to buy brand new.
Please help! I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Well if it were me, I think I would sell that G4 you have at home to the office, and then by myself a new G5.
Seriously though, the server hardware you need seems mostly dictated by the needs of DayLite. I think most of the issues you are seeing with the application are probably the results of trying to use a laptop as the server. My guess is the G4 would be more then adequate, and that a G5 would give you more breathing room, that is less time before you will need to upgrade or replace.
Regardless of which you choose, I would recommend installing sufficient RAM, a minimum of 1 GB for the OS, plus additional RAM for your application. I would guess that 2 GB of RAM would be more then enough. This should be enough to support the OS, Daylite and running Retrospect, plus additional apps without having to use the hard drive to often as virtual memory.
As for the 10,000 rpm drive you mention, those are made by Western Digital, and are called Raptor hard drives. They are available in two sizes and with two different types of interface. For your use, the larger drive, a 74 GB with either the SATA interface (for a G5) or an IDE interface (for a G4) could be used as your boot drive. It would hold your OS and applications. It may seem small at 74 GB, but a complete OS install, including developer tools, plus typical office applications would take less then 40 GBs, leaving you 30 GBs of available storage/scratch space on your fast Raptor drive. You could then install either a second Raptor or a larger 7200 RPM drive to take care of additional storage needs.
You may also want to consider adding an external hard drive, to allow for local backups as well. You could use Retrospect to backup nightly to the external as well as to your offsite location. I suggest this because although you are doing a the right thing by having a backup off premise, you are vulnerable to their being a functioning network connection to the offsite storage to be able to make or recover a backup, something I wouldn't count on when you are in desperate needs of recovering from a disaster of some type.
If the budget allows for it, I would suggest a product like this:

This is a dual hot swappable external drive enclosure using SATA interface, it includes the needed card for your G4 or G5 (be aware that the card shown will not work in the newest G5's with PCI-E expansion bus, you will have to use a different controller card.
The hot swappable enclosure allows you to remove or add a drive from the enclosure. You can use this feature to store a drive in a convenient place, such as a fireproof safe or offsite, you can then rotate which drive from the enclosure is at the safe location and which is in the office being used for backups. or you can just use the two together at the same time, one for odd day backups, one for even day backups, and both holding a base line backup. This type of backup prevents a hard drive failure from effecting all of your backups, instead the worst case is being one day behind.
Finally as to network gear. For a small office like you describe, I would suggest a good SOHO level router, and not one of the consumer types commonly available. I really like the routers/firewall products from Zyxel for small offices. Take a look at these products:

For an office of your size, the Zywall 2, 2WE, 5, and 10W would all be a nice fit, depending on your needs. They are fairly easy to setup and configure, and provide powerful protection with advance Firewall capabilities, Multi-NAY functions, VPN, plus the usual routing needs.
For switches, I think your office can get by with a good 16 port or higher 10/100 switch, though looking to future proof a bit, you could look at a 10/100/1000 switch. Your office is small enough that it is not likely that you are using VLANS to divide up traffic, so a basic unmanaged switch should fit your needs. Price range from $40 to well over $500, and surprisingly price is not a reliable indication of quality in this market segment. I'd suggest switches from the usual suspects all would work well, Linksys, D-Link, Netgear, SMC, etc. But also ones from Hawkings, TrendNet, and even Zonet, may serve your needs.

Which Soundcard should i buy for Musicproduction on new iMac ?

I'm planning to buy a new 20" iMac Intel. The main use will be Music Production as in Home Recording Studio. My question is for reasons of Budgeting. I'm now a Windows user and for music production I use Steinberg System 4 which includes the Steinberg MI4 Soundcard and SL 3.1.
So... with all the Cubase SX/SL 4 speculation and that it will "probably" come out around end of the year after Vista comes out.... blah, blah, blah. I wonder if my System 4 will work at all on the new iMac.... yes i open this question on the Steinberg forum.
Well, i would be maybe willing to buy a whole new SoundCard.... so...
1) Is the Soundcard in the new iMacs good enough or should i get a better one? (I'm a Home Recording guy willing to invest some good ammount of money to get as good recordings as i can for a Home Recording Studio.)
2) Can somebody recommend me 2-3 different SoundCards for the new iMacs that i could buy ? (Please not more expensive than 300 EUR or equivalent in USD. I think more than 300 EUR is not worth investing in a SoundCard, is it ?! IMHO... if yes no more than 500 EUR)
Oh yeah, i am using a MindPrint EnVoice II with DI-MOD, so that pre-amp with compressor is enough for me, the Soundcard doesn't has to have a good preamp and compresor stuff neither tons of inputs. I record through my MindPrint one Instrument/voice at a time. For Drums i simply use BFD from XPansion, so i don't have to mic that.

The iMac is built more like a laptop with very little room inside for adding/changing anything apart from RAM.
You could use the internal sound card of the iMac but getting an external audio interface will provide both more sound quality and flexibility.

Which drive should I buy for iMovie? I only have 1 FW 400 and 1 USB2 port.

I have a 12" 1ghz AiBook and am getting into some iMovie editing, but I need a new hard drive for extra storage, and I need help figuring out what'll work.
Despite having maxed out the drive config (it's a 80 GB 4200 RPM drive, with about 11 GB of free space) there isn't enough to hold a full MiniDV tape's worth of clips, let alone to edit together a decent little project.
So I'm left with the following options:
* Upgrade the internal drive
* Buy an external FW drive
* Buy an external USB2 drive
The first option is obviously ideal, performance-wise, since I can get a speedy 7200 RPM ATA drive, but it's also very expensive, ~$150 for a decent drive, and my battery life will go to heck (moreso), and the install on the 12" is a PITA. So I'd like to avoid that.
For an external drive, I already have a USB2/FW enclosure with an old HD in it, so I'm considering putting a 7200 RPM drive in there and see if that'll work.
So my question is: Will it? Can I capture video to the drive in either USB2 or FW mode? Keep in mind that if I use it as FW, I'll have it on the same bus as the camera, so it'll be splitting bandwidth (or something). USB2 of course has its own problems...
What's the best way to go here? Should I just suck it up and upgrade the internal drive, or is a decent USB2 drive sufficient for capturing DV (not high-def) from iMovie? (After capture, I could always re-connect the drive via FW to keep throughput higher for DVD burning.)
Just looking for advice before I plunk down my hard earned cash.

I've never had any dropouts running any Sony camcorder "daisy-chained" through an external FireWire drive as long as the external drive has a 5400rpm or faster disc in it.
That's been true for G3 and G4 laptops, a Mac mini ..well; for all the Macs listed below (in small print).
But be aware - as Karsten says - that many Canon camcorders just won't do that: they won't work properly if any other FireWire device is connected to your Mac besides the camcorder ..so they will not work "daisy-chained" through an external disc ..see Karsten's suggestion about importing to the internal disc, then moving all that video to the external disc for editing. However, if you have next to no space on your internal disc, you'll need some other strategy, or to simply MAKE some space there.
I've upgraded alumin(i)um PowerBooks (12" and 17") to 120GB fast internal discs, and that doesn't seem to have diminished their running-time on battery power. But it's a finicky job with a 12" PB ..especially getting the F1 keytop to re-seat properly afterwards!
So if you don't have a Canon camcorder, it's probably best to get a fast external FireWire drive and capture and edit on that. If you DO have a Canon camcorder, it may be better to upgrade your internal disc, but you'll need concentration, steady hands, patience, and persistence (..trying to get that F1 keytop back on again!)

Faster hard drive! 7.200 rpm is the way to go when using Logic, either internal drive or external Firewire. The 0.33 MHz won't make much of a difference. I work with Logic on a 2007' white MacBook with 2Ghz, and i've always found a workaround if CPU power was weak. Better go for the faster HD.

Just choose your color. You can always buy third party but I haven't had good luck with anything except OEM batteries.

The 13" MBAir could be lighter to tote and the extra $100 to upgrade the RAM to 8GB's is well worth the investment and handle all the tasks you mentioned.

Can you please give me useful reference books which cover the al topics for Oracle Linux Exam 1Z0-402 preparation?By itself, 1Z0-402 does not grant any certification. Presumably you are going for Oracle Linux Administrator Certified Associate. That certification path also requires passing 1Z0-403. However, you can skip 1Z0-402 if you already have one of several other industry Linux certifications (LPI, Linux+, Ubuntu, Red Hat, or Novell). My recommendation would be to go for one of these certifications, then skip straight to the 1Z0-403 exam. I suggest that for several reasons:
1. There is a lot more study resources for exams like CompTIAs Linux+ available.
2. The other Linux certifications are better known than Oracle's.
3. Since 1Z0-402 by itself does not grant a certification, going this route gets you two certifications for the price of one.

Look, any officially unlocked GSM iPhone will work in India. You purchase from Dubai, no FaceTime, and Dubai is part of the UAE. Instead of buying right away you may want to avail yourself of the free 30 day trial first to see which program fits your needs.
Photoshop and Photoshop Elements may be worth a try.
If you intend to create more graphic/typographic designs Illustrator may be worth looking into, too.
Someone else may have more/other recommendations, though.
