Which Nvidia drivers should I install.

I have no idea what I should use for drivers:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV43 [GeForce Go 6200/6400] (rev a1)
That's part if the output of lspci. What driver should I use?

Where possible you should minimize the files on your system which aren't under your package management software (pacman in this case). This is particularly the case with a relatively common package like nvidia for which packages are already available. Makes debugging easier, and allows for a cleaner system if/when you need to change driver.
@jwwolf, since this is the Newbie Corner, it'd be helpful to take the time to at least add a few words on the difference between nouveau and the nvidia drivers...
you should not make things up. in the case of nvidia pacman is nothing more than wrapper. In this specific case it actually limits nvidia original installer.
there is not such thing as "cleaner" system: this is linux so user is allowed to use distro specific packaging system or sources.
I agree with gnoonee. The good thing about using pacman to install anything, including the Nvidia driver is:
Someone else does the work.
Automatic updates.
Very very easy to uninstall it. If you want to try the open source driver, or, if you install an ATI video card, then it is very easy to change drivers.
No different than installing it the "Nvidia" way, which would be by downloading it from nvidia.com. If a package is not installed the way you want it to be, then I recommend making (or changing) the PKGBUILD file and making your own package. It's easy to do!
That's only my advice. Of course, it's your computer, and you can do whatever you want with it. But I've had too many Linux installations become "dirty" because I strayed too far from the package manager.

    Hi,
I should revceive my K8N Neo2 tomorrow and I was wondering: should I install the nVidia drivers available on MSI's homepage (v5.03) or the ones available on nVidia's homepage (v. 5.10) ?
    Franck

The motherboard comes with a driver cd and a floppy .
The floppy i got was labled NVSA020 and is the IDE/RAID drivers (2.5) on diskette
which you need when installing windows to a sata / raid .
If you are not needing the win install with press F6 to load raid drivers just forget about the floppy diskette .
Otherwise just prepare a new empty one and copy the following files to it (2.6) :
Files found from the extracted 5.10 file under nForce_5.10_WinXP2K_WHQL_international\IDE\WinXP

  • Which network driver should I install???!!!!

    Hello,
Please help me I installed windows 7 and now I don't know which network driver I should download!!!

Hi: Please do the following steps so I can figure out exactly what model wireless card they put in your notebook... Go to the device manager and click on the device labeled Network Controller that needs the drivers. Then click on the Details tab at the top of the network controller window. Now you see a Property drop down list and it is defaulted to Device Description. Drop down on that and select the second item on the list (Hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters that begin with PCI\VEN. Then I will post the link to the driver you need.

  • Satellite A30: What important drivers should I install

Hi, My Satellite A30 PSA30E had a major crash a while ago, now I have to reinstall everything but I lost my boot disc, I got an XP disc and I kno I have to install the drivers afterwards. I was just wondering what ones are the most important and if I need to install them in any specific order.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi
If you want to use all notebook features you should install all available XP drivers from the Toshiba driver page.
You ask for the most important drivers? Well, you should install
    - Chip Set Utility
    - Display Driver
    - Sound Driver
    - LAN Driver
    - Wireless Lan Driver
    - Cardbus Driver
    - Touch Pad Driver
    - Modem Driver
Other utilities like Toshiba Console or E-Key are needed to use the notebooks features but you the unit will run also without these programs

  • A few simple tips and questions. Neo2 system XP re-install, which audio drivers?

    My questions:
I'm re-installing my XP Pro system because I have decided I don't want to go with a 2GB primary partition as my first partition. Here are my questions.
    1) Should I update from 1.4 to BIOS 1.5 ?
    2) Which audio drivers should I use? nVidia Driver package 4.57? Or the Realtek ALCXXX_73 from nVidia website? Last time I actually accidentally installed the 4.60 audio MCP driver from the nForce 4 standalone package 6.39, but alas the sound was fine. (perhaps a little strange seeing as how my Neo2 is nForce3 and the 4.60 was from the nForce4 package.
Which audio drivers should I install?
    3) What is nVidia nTune, what can I do with it and should I bother with it?
    4) Which Catalyst driver should I install? The 29.7 MB driver with Catalyst Control Center or the 23.1 MB driver with Control Panel. Whats the difference and should I care?
I'll be using MSI update, keeping the windows IDE drivers, I may use the "speedfan" program but no digicell and no corecenter.
    thanx,
    My tips, See below:
    0) Do your first install with a minimum of hardware installed (add your PCI cards later)
    1) Research here for the proper BIOS settings for stable first boot and system install.
    -Disable Agressive Timings in BIOS
-Turn Off NV/ATI Speedup in hidden BIOS
    2) Install XP and SP2
    3) install video drivers
    4) Install nVidia UDP 5.10 (preferably without audio) and don't install the nVidia IDE drivers, just keep the XP drivers. (Use the XP windows IDE drivers) I used the nVidia LAN and it worked fine.
    5) Install Zone Alarm (or your prefered software firewall) and then hook up LAN, preferably behind a router
    6) Windows update once you have internet working
    7) Install AMD Athlon 64 processor driverv1.1.0.18
    8) Install audio drivers

Thanx 10-4 on that one. I edited my system install to reflect your idea by inserting Zone Alarm install BEFORE connecting to the internet. As an aside, I have a router which our PC's are connected to, so I'm reasonably safe for a few minutes
Also, I won't really be installing the ATI Catalyst drivers now, as I'm just using a Gforce2 GTS 32MB AGP for now and XP Pro installs perfectly adequate drivers. When I get my card back from ATI I'll install the Catalyst drivers then. I'd still like some advice on which driver to install when I do though
Anyone have any other tips in regards to my questions?

  • After upgrading to 2.6.28, any Nvidia drivers == CRASH

I finally did an update to my system, and now with 2.6.28, No matter which nvidia drivers I use, things work fine in Xorg for an indeterminent amount of time, then all the sudden, my screens blank and the box is completely unresponsive to ping.  At this point, touching the keyboard causes beeps.  Presumably the kernel has paniced.
I've tried nvidia-180.29-3, nvidia-173xx (173.14.17-2) nvidia-96xx(96.43.11-2) as well as getting nvidia drivers directly from nvidia's site, doing an uninstall through here, etc.  I know the issue is related to nvidia, since when I switch to vesa, the problem goes away.
Interestingly, the crash always seems to happen as a result of me typing on the keyboard.  For example, I will be using mutt in an mrxvt terminal, and as soon as I hit 'j' or 'backspace' the box crashes.  It never crashes when just using the mouse or not as the result of typing.  Of course, this only happens after around 30 minutes or so, as I am using this setup right now and typing is working fine.
Presumably the rest of the Arch community isn't hitting this or it would have been addressed by now.  My device is:

Actually I was wrong, this isn't a kernel panic, and may not even be related to Nvidia.
Xorg just plain crashes, and it does seem to be in keyboard handling code:

  • Should I install Adobe Document Servie

    Hello Fellows,
I have installed J2EE Engine 6.40, do I need to install Adobe Document Service? If so which version I should install. Thanks in advance.
        Kind Regards,
    Aleksandar

    Hi Francois,
Thank you very much for the help but I still have an doubt about what service package I should install. I run J2EE Engine 6.40 and I have decided to install Adobe Document Service 7.00, but there is at least 9 or 10 Support Packages so my question is, which support package should I install? does mean that If I install the highest support package I do not need to install previous released support packages?
And one more doubt, I downloaded SP10 for Adobe Document Service 7.00 and there are only some sda files, so should I deploy those files by SAP Software Deployment Manager GUI, that is absolutely different way than is described in documents that could be found on 'service.sap.com/adobe > Media Library > Documentation', or should I do that in different way. Thank you very much.

  • What is the best way to see what toshiba software can/should be installed?

I'm thinking about formating my A100-454's hard disc, starting from zero and installing Windows Vista Ultimate.
I would like to know what (last version, and preferently, in portuguese language) software/drivers should i install. Is there any webpage that gives that information?, without being "dumped" by a search that gives "any software any drivers any version" downloads (yes, i'm forgetting the filters...:) )?
I ask because, as you all know, the laptop cames with many software/utilities installed, and, at least i, don't really know "what does what " and i would like to see a page that objectivelly, would say "for A100-454 ... install these software and drivers, this software does this, this software does that..."

  • Qlogic what firmware version should be installed

I'm having trouble with a couple of new qlogic 5600 switches (the switch wants to assign my clients as target and not initiators). which firmware version should be installed on the switches? i'm having quite a lot of trouble with this upgrade and any input would be greatly appreciated. thanks

thanks for your reply Donald. I did manage to get the FC switch and hba cards working properly. I was aware of the device scan and streamgard settings on the switch, but the feedback i was getting from the switch was worrisome (some targets were listed as initiators on the switch and vicaversa). What solved the problem for me was to load the latest qlogic firmware 7.0.1...(i think), and it started giving the correct devices on each port. The new firmware also allowed me to log on to the switch through a web browser on my mac and not the antiquated "San Surfer" java app that came with the switches. I also had to set my hba to point-to-point and not automatic. I also set my arrays to point to point as well. I have 2 xserve RAIDs and a new promise array all set for "point-to-point". The old emulex switch we were using before was much nicer to work with than the qLogic switches that I just installed, and I found myself longing for the simplicity of the setup on the emulex.
Everything is working great now...I'm getting very fast throughput (250mb/sec).
The only remaining grief is that everytime I quit the admin app and relaunch it, it won't reconnect with my mdc's and i have to delete the xsan admin preference in my admin/library/preferences/ folder to reattach the admin app and administer my san. any ideas?
