  • Which JRE for Windows XP?

I have to choose the JRE version which will installed as the default JRE on thousands of XP sp2 pc's. This JRE will also be the default JRE for Internet Explorer - the one called when the APPLET tag is used.
Up until now we have used the Microsoft JVM as the default for Internet Explorer and a SUN JRE version 1.4.1_02 as the default JRE on our NT machines.
Can anyone recommend a very stable, reliable JRE for Windows XP sp2? Once installed it will probably be used for years as the default JRE although other JRE's will be installed on the system also.

Its a bad idea to use a platform like java for several years, I would at least upgrade every 1-2 years. Java provides a silent installation mode for this, so no interaction of the user is required at all.
as I sugested I would use the latest 1.4.2_latest if you need something rock-solid or 1.5.0_latest if you want the latest features. However I know many people having problems with 1.5.0+applets, starting with crashing browsers to long load-times because sun's cup animation eats up the whole CPU which is needed for class-loading!

  • Which BIOS for Windows 7?

Hi.In the moment I am with windows Vista x32 bios. I would like to know wich one Bios shall I use for windows 7? Thanks in advance.
And I am sorry for the inconvenience.

    Hi
I think this is depending on your notebook Which one you have exactly?
On the Toshiba website I can different versions for the notebook, like one for 32bit OS and other one for 64bit OS. So I think thats the only difference because I dont see a special BIOS only for Windows 7.
If you have installed the latest BIOS version, everything is ok! :)

  • I have PS CS6 Extended Windows (from hard copy download which was for Windows only) on my desk top along with LR5.  On my laptop (Mac) I have LR5 . Are there updates for PS6 to add to my Mac Laptop?

I have Photoshop CS6 Extended windows version. Is there an update to allow me to also use it on my Mac laptop?

The disc you used would have been the install disc that came with your Mac. These can only be used on that as they are made for that specific model.
Make sure your machine meets requirements
Macs with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core i3, Intel Core i5, Intel Core i7, or Xeon processor.)
    At least 2GB of RAM
Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later (Mac OS X 10.6.8 is recommended)
7 GB of free hard drive space is recommended
Once you've purchased it would be a good idea to create a bootable DVD or USB

  • Is there a version of Safari for WINDOWS later than 5.7?

I have a Dell XPS 1 which on which I run Windows 7. I have always used Safari as my OS. I am receiving emails which indicate that my version of Safari 5.7 is no longer supported by gmail. I can't find any version of Safari later than 5.7 which is for WINDOWS. Can you please advise? Thanks.

5.1.7 is the most recent: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1531
    Last update was in 2012.
I am an Apple guy. The only windows machine I use belongs to my employer. But honestly, Safari for Windows is a dog. You need to find another browser. A newer version of IE should work well with Gmail, and of course there is always Chrome or FireFox.

  • Setup Lion Server for use in Small Office of Windows & Mac Clients

I've purchased a Mac Mini Server with Lion Server installed to be used in my small office of less than 10 people.
The primary goal of this server is to used for File Sharing, bother locally, and remotely.
In the process of setting up Lion Server I have come across a couple things that I am confused about.
    The first is Open Directory.
It is my understanding that this is not a necessary setup for the number of users in my office, however I set it up anyway as it appeared to be something that would be useful in the future.
I have come across information that states Lion Server will not be accessible for Windows users connected via Open Directory. Thus my inclination is to disable the service, and set up my users as local users.
My question is, for local and remote File Sharing, is there any benefit to using Open Directory?
The second has to do with Remote Access.
I am familiar with the notion of a VPN, but I need some clarification as to my remote access options.
When I go to setup my Server's hostname, I am presented with three options. 1) Host name for local network, 2) Host name for private network, and 3) Host name for Internet.
I have a domain name for my company's website, so I set up a subdomain (server.mycompany.com), asked my ISP for a Static WAN IP, and pointed thesubdomain to said IP using my DNS. Thus this appears to be option number 3; to allow users to connect to my server from the local network, as well as the Internet.
My question is, how does this differ from a VPN both in setup, as well as method with which users will access the server? Is there a benefit to one over the other? I would Google this to find an answer, but I can't seem to find a name for what this setup is called.
I very much appreciate any help you can provide.
    Thanks.

Well, I spoke too soon.  Lion Server is unstable, awkward and is far too limited to qualify as an Apple product. Even though there's quite a few enhancements, the omissions of technologies in the server 10.6 edition makes this "server" a no go for us.
Even after installing mysql, I still cannot run a Joomla website on Lion server as it should be done. The wiki's a nice thing to have, but isn't a "professional grade" solution.  There's too much iOS as well.
With that said, I think it's a shame that apple would put customers through so much frustration and disappointment by releasing such a lame product. In order for us to use Lion server, we would have to be able to run a second (totally separate) instance of Apache. It also appears that server settings are changing to the extent that services become inaccessible as the system is running.

  • Is there a difference between microsoft office for mac and for windows?

As a college student it's important that everything is equal for windows and mac for using instructions. So i am wondering if theres a difference between microsoft office for mac and for windows?

There are differences between the two version of Office. If you need to be exactly like the Windows version, you will have to run Windows on your Mac.

  • I have Microsoft Office 2007 for Windows XP and just got a Macbook Pro. Is there any way to install MO2007 on my new Mac?

Just purchased a new Mac and need Word, etc. etc. I was wondering how to/if I could install the Microsoft Office 2007 disc on my Mac.

The only real reason you might need to install Office 2007 on your Mac is if you need Microsoft Access, and don't want to go through Filemaker Pro for Windows to migrate Access to Filemaker Pro.  Once in Filemaker Pro format, it can be put on Filemaker Pro for the Mac.    Numerous applications for download and online  offer free to nearly free access to Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint documents, including LibreOffice, OpenOffice, Neo Office, Google Docs, and Zoho Docs.   This would be much cheaper than installing a database on your Mac and PC, if Access is not part of the equation.

  • Office for Mac and Office for Windows XP compatibility issues?

Trying to convince a family member to make the Mac switch. She uses Office for Windows XP at work but might use Office for Mac at home. Will there be an compatibiity issues with the programs? She is a heavy Excel user and takes a lot of work home. If she has to rearrange cells and fonts and such each and every, it would drive her (and the rest of us) insane.
Any advice would be most welcome.
She is looking into either a Macbook Air or Macbook Pro. Putting Windows on the Mac is not really an option for us.
    Thanks Community!

Or I could just download the trial version and see how that works.

Thanks for putting me in the right direction, anyway!

I have to use microsoft office 2007 and 2003 for windows and I'm using a macbook pro, How i can get the on mac?

You can either use Office for Mac 2011 or use Boot Camp to run Windows or use a VM, such as Parallels Desktop to run Windows. Running Windows, you'd be able to use MS Office for Windows.

  • HT2477 Are documentS created with Microsoft office for windows and Microsoft office for mac are compatible with each other

Are documents created with Microsoft office for windows and Microsoft office for mac are compatible with each other?

As with a lot of software, it depends on the version of Word, and what features the author used.
Technically, Office 2010 for Windows and 2011 for Mac are supposed to be feature compatible. As are Office 2007 for Windows, and 2008 for Mac.
However, if a person using Office 2010 / 2011 used a feature that only exists in that version and sends the file to someone using Office 2007 / 2008, they would very likely have trouble opening the file, or having it display as intended.

Only you can make that determination. All things being equal the 2.5 GHz model is slower.

  • Office prompts for windows login, when i'm trying to save edited document

Hello, i'm trying to disable webdav in office 2010.
My setup is: Apache 2.2.4 with Kerberos "mod_auth_kerb" enabled, works fine.
So fare i have this config:
    .htaccess:
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_METHOD} ^(OPTIONS|PROPFIND|HEAD)$ [NC]
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^Microsoft\ Office\ Core\ Storage\ Infrastructure.*$ [OR]
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^Microsoft\ Office\ Protocol\ Discovery [OR]
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^Microsoft\ Office\ Existence\ Discovery [OR]
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^Microsoft\-WebDAV\-MiniRedir.*$
    RewriteRule .* - [R=501,L]
This config, disables the login, which came everytime i opened the document in Internet Explorer.
But when document is opened and i want to save the document, i get a windows login prompt.
This is my access log, which shows office tries to access the webserver, but anonymously.

in addition to my question here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/eb068660-5ded-411e-bfc1-6f18ba7bc585/office-prompts-for-windows-login-when-im-trying-to-save-edited-document?forum=officeitproprevious
Can someone tell my, how does the Microsoft Office Single Sign on work ?
From what i understand, ms office opens the document (when through IE) and tries to create a webdav connection.
I have tried to disable the webdav on apache.
But the entire webserver is mod_auth_kerb "protected".
And in the access-log, i can see this:
    IP, DATETIME, [email protected] document....
But also: IP, DATETIME - document <--- None authenticated user... Why does microsoft not use the current user?
I have tried to ssl enable the website, which i read in this thread: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2123563
But Microsoft Office stills act as anonymous user.
