Input Connector: 15-pin mini D-Sub
The "15-pin mini D-Sub" Connector is a VGA connector. The mini comes with a DVI to VGA adapter, so that monitor will work perfectly with it!

  • Which new Mac Mini to buy?

I'm looking to buy the new mac mini. Please help me decide which one that I should buy based on my uses. I will use this computer for app development, internet browsing, some photo editing, and maybe even for games. I know that I will at least need the mac below:
    2.5GHz : 500GB
    2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
    4GB memory
    500GB hard drive1
    AMD Radeon HD 6630M
    OS X Lion
But what upgrades should I invest in? With my uses will it be worth getting the 2.7GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7 and the 750GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm??
If not just say so and tell me what your opinion is.
    Thanks in advance.

Yes and yes if you plan on doing photo editing and games. I would also get 8 gigs RAM, but by all means get it aftermarket.

  • Toshiba TV with older Mac Mini

    Hi,
I was thinking of buying a HD TV by Toshiba that claims it can be connected to a Computer (makes no mention of Mac) using it’s “PC INPUT (15-PIN D-SUB)“ port. I’ve seen others mention using HDMI instead. What port on my older Mac Mini would I connect to? I think the video port is an HD monitor out.
Anyone have any experience with this? I wanted to use the TV as a monitor for the Mini some of the time.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks, and so long for now, TOM

All minis have had some form of DVI up until the most recent model. DVI can provide either an analog or digital signal, and because of the ubiquity of VGA monitors the early minis came with a DVI to VGA adapter. The same DVA connection however can deliver a digital signal if the video hardware in the computer supports it, which the minis always have. Audio is not included in this type of connection however, although some TVs support using a combined HDMI and secondary audio input. Many times one HDMI is specifically grouped with a set of RCA inputs on the back for this purpose.
The big difference in how you connect is that most standard video devices sources have historically used an overscan method of image delivery. The image is actually larger than the screen area you will be presented, so the TV overlaps the outer part beyond the actual viewing area. This is largely an artifact of when CRT TVs had fairly widely varied true display areas, and even broadcast equipment couldn't provide a perfectly consistent image area. Because this practice is still used, most video input methods designed for 'dumb' video source like broadcast, cable, satellite, or set top boxes and players use an overscan method. Some TVs allow you to adjust this for the normal video type inputs, like composite, component, S-video, and HDMI. Computers have basically always used a pixel for pixel image rendering model, so VGA as an almost exclusively computer standard does not use overscan. Thus, when a TV has VGA, that input does not use an overscan method to display the image.

  • Older Mac Mini and iLife11

    Hi there
I have a older Mac Mini (MA608B/A) Intel Core Duo 1.83 GHz upgraded with 2 GB RAM with OS 10.6.5 installed. I want to upgrade my copy of iLife as I'm still running the original iLife06 that shipped with it. I'm wondering whether my Mac Mini is really man enough to run iLife 11? Yes my mac meets the 'minimum specs' for running iLife11 but that doesn't necessarily mean it is capable of running it quickly and efficiently. Last thing I want to do is buy iLife11 and find my mac becomes so slow and clunky that the applications are rendered virtually unusable.
Are there any other users out there with a similar spec Mac Mini who have iLife11 installed who can report how it runs on their Mac Mini's, or would i be better off getting hold of a previous version such as iLife08 or 09?
    Cheers
    Jonty

I'm also having speed problems with two 1.83 mhz duo's. In the last six months, even before I installed snow leopard and ilife 11, it has been extremely slow. I'm wondering whether there is something in the updates making the computers exceptionally slow.

  • New mac mini server: Install OS on older Mac Mini?

I have an UBUNTU server running on the network and was thinking of replacing it with the new Mac Mini Server edition. I also have an older (2009 - intel) Mac Mini.
I was wondering if I could install the OS X Server OS that comes with the NEW mini on the OLDER Mac Mini and reformat the newer server as a "normal" workstation.
I can deal with the optical drive issue. I'm just wondering if the OS X Server software is tied to the newer hardware in any way.
I'd be saving about $300 this way - not a big deal but still worth it. The "traditional" way would be to buy an new Mac mini as a workstation and a copy of Mac OS X Server for the older Mac Mini

No. That OS can only be installed on the Mac model it shipped with.

  • How do I wireless on my older mac mini

I recently purchased an older Mac Mini and it does not have wireless, is there anything I can buy to make it wifi compatible? I can use ethernet to connect to my internet service, I want to be able to use wireless keyboard and mouse.

There are USB Bluetooth adapters, but I wouldn't count on any of them to work reliably.

  • Downloaded tv show episodes. Bought the entire season and after watching one and downloaded first 4-5 they disappeared.  This was during the time I was trying to migrate stuff from an older mac mini. Help?

I downloaded several episodes of the tv show "touch."  I purchased the entire season and had watched one show.  It took quite some time for each show to download, but I had downloaded 4-5.
About this time (within the last two weeks) I was trying to use migration assistant to migrate information from my older mac mini and my macbook.  while I was able to move things from my older mac mini I noticed that the tv show went missing.
Also I purchased a program called 'Touched" in a season pass.  After I downloaded a couple of episodes I watched one and continued to download the episodes as they were available.
I also purchased a program called "Tune Up" which elminates duplicates of iTunes songs.  I have a large collection and this helped to get rid of the duplicates faster than clicking on them one at a time.  Maybe this had something to do with the tv shows episodes and the podcasts disapeering.
    Any ideas?

    This may help

As far as the TV series being in 1080p then that is upto the content provider and some older seasons are in 720p or only SD eg Stargate
It may well be that the season you want is only available in 720p

Hello, no way you should need iWork to "Agree"!?
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
And if you're really at 10.4.2, then get this and apply it...

  • Media Center - older Mac Mini

I have an older Mac Mini - Late 2005 (NON-Intel, running Tiger) sitting in the closet and I'm looking at alternatives that will allow me to finally sever the cord to paying for high cable when I don't watch most of the channels to begin with.
With the 512 MB, I'm wondering if it will allow me to get by enough to be able to use Hulu, boxee, my Airport and other sources to stream content to my HDTV that I'll connect with a DVI to HMDI cable? I've looked at lots of articles, but they all seem to be using an Intel model
I really don't want to buy an Intel mini, just to do this - although, all the money I save from not paying the cable company... hmmm.
    Thoughts, tips, suggestions?

Since you already have the mini, why not try it and answer your own question about whether you are satisfied with the outcome or not?
Generally speaking, I think you will find the G4 mini to be a bit under powered for what you have in mind. Adding more memory won't help much.
Thanks for the response. I had every intention to give it a shot, but wanted to see if anyone else had tried with such a low-powered model just to read about their experiences.
I bought the cable and the wireless keyboard and played around with it yesterday.
I came to the conclusion that I need to look for a bargain and invest in an Intel mini. The streaming was great. I only noticed that there was a buffering issue when I tried to watch a TV series from the 70s; it kept stalling every few seconds. (But) two movies and A Charlie Brown Xmas played fine.
I see great potential, once I obtain the mini, so time to check a few prices in a few places.
In the meantime, I can at least upgrade the current model to Leopard, just for kicks

  • How do you unzip a Word File on an older MAC mini?

How do you unzip a Word File on an older MAC mini?

On older Macs .docx files can look like a zip file. This is because they contain a proprietary form of XML compressed using ZIP.
If you have an older version of Office for Mac, i.e. Office 2004 which predates .docx format files, then you can install a free addon to allow it to import and export .docx files.

  • How to connect a new 27" LED Cinema Display to an older Mac Mini?

I bought a 27" LED Cinema Display (no Thunderbolt) but don't know how to connect it to my wife's older Mac Mini. I presume the Atlona adaptor is the solution, but I haven't bougt one yet.

The cord attached to the display splits into a Mini DisplayPort, USB, and a MagSafe connector (for powering a laptop).
There is a separate connector on the back of the display for the AC power cord.

  • Mac mini server has suddenly stopped seeing one or the other bluetooth devices! Batteries have been changed and they will connect to an older Mac mini. Server will now only see one or the other but not both.

My Mac mini server has suddenly stopped seeing one or the other bluetooth devices, either the wireless keyboard or the mouse( both apple products) have tried new batteries, at first it was the mouse that stopped responding, but upon rebooting the computer now the keyboard will not respond and the mouse works. Both work fine on an older Mac mini that I hooked back up to check.

There is absolutely no reason why they should not bothe be able to connect to your WiFi network. The easiest place to start would be to reboot your router. Unplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it back in again. I would also restart both the iPad and the iPhone.

  • HT4796 Transfer files from older mac mini to new macbook pro: incompatible ports

I have an older Mac Mini with only USB ports.  I just bought a MacBook Pro with thunderbolt and USB 3 ports.  I need to transfer my data to my new MacBook Pro using the Migration Assistant but the direct connection ports are not compatible.  How can I do this?

Use FireWire, Ethernet, or wireless. The first two can be adapted to a Thunderbolt port.

I agree with Grant. But to answer your question, that would be Word 2008. A quick search turns it up on sale at Amazon. You'll need to find it somewhere other than Microsoft itself, since MS stopped selling it when they released Word 2011.
