Which one first? GRC or IDM

Guys, if you have to choose between one of the two, GRC or IDM.
Which one would you prefer and why?
Thanks,

Hi,
It all depends on what you are trying to achieve. GRC and IdM serve different purposes even though it seems that they both do lots of common stuff. In fact, GRC is complimentary to IdM and vice versa.
If staying SOX compliant is very important for your company than GRC would be the way to go. If you just want to manager users and roles to different ERP systems, legacy systems, LDAP etc. than IdM should be the choice.

  • Flex Time vs. Melodyne - which one first in your vocals workflow?

    Hi all,
I am curious about what workflow you guys have with vocals.
The first steps after recording (and perhaps multicomping) the different layers/tracks, are to me pitch-correction in Melodyne and time-correction with Flex-Time (built into Logic pro).
Which one do you guys do first?
I haven't yet got enough experience to judge  with much certainty which way serves the recorded audio best.
Myself, I currently go melodyne on one vocal track at the time, snap-to-pitch off and adjust pitch by ear with the music tracks as guide.
Sometimes I push formants around, in particular if there's a high note with lots of pitch drifting (those high notes can be difficult to hit ;-).
After that, I layer vocal tracks that belong together, and work with flextime until they are reasonably well-timed with particular focus on consonants and note ends.
I tend to keep one recording centered, and two (or more) panned to the sides; a configuration that is very transparent to time differences.
I *think* I do this because I have this idea that if I do flextime first, I will already have spectral content that is more damaged, that will be more difficult to pitch-correct with minimal artifacts. While as time-stretching or -compressing melodyne artifacts, will not do much to change the harmonic content of the material.
    Whether this is "correct" or not, I don't know for sure :-}
So, I'd like to hear your experiences and opinion on this!
    Cheers;
    ::E::

    Hi!
I assume you are on Logic 9. I think your workflow makes sense. With LX it´s a bit different.
I have noticed that I really don't use Melodyne that much anymore, because of Flexpitch.
Flexpitch is so much easier to work with, especially if you change computer. Downside of FP,
however, is that you can't create fades, so first of all I would 'clean up' my vocal tracks, create fades,
and then apply Flex Pitch and Time, in that order, I guess.

  • WRT300N and SPA2102, which one first?

I'm planning to get VoIP installed with SPA2102 but not sure which router should be the first one.
Before I used Belkin G and then NetGeat G routers and I always use SPA2102 as the first one but now I'm not sure it would be a good idea with 300N.
I believe the one has QoS but still not sure what is the best ....
    Anyone ? any suggestions?

  • 9iASR2 and 9iFS. Install which one FIRST?

    HI,
I decided to install 9iDB, 9iASR2 and 9iFS into a single computer. However, I'm not sure do I need install 9iASR2 before 9iFs? or other hand?
    Thanks
    Ken

9iAS Release 2 first then 9iFS into the 9iAS release Middle Teir home.
Why bother with 9iDB. 9iAS will require 2 Oracle Homes:
    1. Infrastructure - A full 9i database (9iDB hence my question) with Oracle Internet Directory set up.
    2. Middle Tier - All the bits required for J2EE, Portal etc. This is where 9iFS should be installed.
Since this is one machine you will need a lot of Processor and RAM for 9iDB, 9iASR2, 9iFS. Hence don't bother with 9iDB.
I have 9iASR2 only on a Win2k Pro system - PIII 933 & 512 MB RAM - The machine has over 700MB committed and swaps most of the time.
Recommend 1 GB Minimum for what you want (Without 9iDB) possibly 2 GB (With 9iDB)

I see the space limit error. The database is defined with flash_recovery_area 2GB. So I should just enlarge the flash_recovery_area to make the backup work. BUT the real puzzler before I go making changes is, this database is in NOARCHIVELOG mode. What I find in the books say don't do incremental backups in NOARCHIVELOG mode; and don't do NOARCHIVELOG unless you don't care much about being able to recover your data. So, not being able to ask the guy who set this up, "Why is it NOARCHIVELOG, especially when set for incremental backups, I pose these here:
    1. Switch to ARCHIVELOG?
    2. Enlarge flash_recovery_area to get these backups working first?

You can do incremental backups in noarchivelog mode - it's just that the database must be in mount mode. But I agree - unless the data is not important (and if you are taking backups then it seems to be important) I would have the database in archivelog mode.

I am thinking of getting my first Macbook pro for uni and was just wondering which one would be the best? The macbook pro or macbook pro with retina display? or even wait for the new release in 2013 ?

If your budget is unlimited, look at both the retina and non-retina and make a decision based on your preferences.  If funds are tight, explore the options in the refurbished section.  Unless you are dealing with courses that demand specific performance parameters, any one of these options will suffice.

I'm sure others will disagree, but I'm all about saving $.  I would start by looking online at the Apple store for refurbished devices.  I would also get MORE memory than yout think you will ever need.  The    stuff we have seems always to expand to fill the space available.  I wouldn't get one with cellular capability unless you really, really need it...

  • Oracle in RHEL 5. Which one to learn first? Linux or Oracle?

My office uses Oracle Database in RHEL 5. Which one should I master first to be a qualified DBA? the Linux or Oracle? If the answer's Linux, where can I find Linux Tutorial for Dummies since I've never handled Linux in my life before. thanks

    Both.
Best way to start is install a VM on your computer and download a Live distribution (Ubuntu, Fedora Core, etc...), install it. While you are playing around with linux in your VM, install oracle on your windows system and start playing around there. The only real difference you will encounter when playing around with the basics of oracle is the path reference to files. It may seem hard to get started but once have gotten to the point where you know enough to install oracle under linux (install apps via YUM or RPM, change configuration, install other daemons or services; IE: postfix, samba, smtp, etc) and know about creating users, creating tablespaces, creating tables/procedures/packages, altering system parameters, creating database links, etc...you will be on your way.
However becoming a DBA is not as simple as just knowing about Linux and Oracle. Since you have not indicated what you do know about this area I will assume a few things. First off when you start working as a DBA, you may not be just running Oracle on Linux, you may be running oracle on HP-UX, AIX, Linux, Solaris, Windows. Plus you will also be expected to know about writing quieries and optimizing queries. There is no magic settings that make databases run fast, you have to know about how they work, how queires are executed by the sql parser (this is where the real performance gains are).
One thing that I have been constantly expected to know (with detail) is oracle licensing. This is a nightmare, and it takes a while to learn about how all the licensing works so you can give advise for new projects that want to use certain technologies from oracle. This is very daunting at first, but as you learn about everything and become more comfortable about using and knowing all of this stuff it will become second nature to you. If you know DBA's (work colleagues or friends) talk to them, get them to show you, you will learn a lot more in less time than learning by yourself.

  • How the process starts in XI and which one should start first ?

How the process starts in XI and which one should start first ?

    XI flow :
1.File picked by the adapter,at the A.E it converts to XML format.
2.Generate a msg ID for the file and creates XI header to that file  using CPA cache. CPA cache will be having the    information about all the Control(address) data.
    3.Module processor
4.The file goes to send queue by the adapter engine, that file will be  picked by the internal XI adapter and the file    will be forwarded to the Integration engine.
5.Pipeline steps follow the Integration Engine.
Receiver determination, Interface determination, Msg split, Msg  mapping, Logical routing, Receiver aggrement, call adapter
6.The file will go to receive queue, which was taken and forwarded to the adapter engine.

  • Which one should I learn first?

I am becoming an common Oracle DBA and I want to learn RedHat Linux. But I do not know the difference between Redhat Linux 9 and Redhat Enterprise Linux 5. What are they for? Which one should I learn first?

But I do not know the difference between Redhat Linux 9 and Redhat Enterprise Linux 5.RedHat Linux 9 is very oldest brother of RHEL5. While RH9 is public (free of charge) distribution, RHEL5 is commercial no free (of charge) distribution. Redhat 9 was last public (free) release from Redhat corporation, since next release it was called Fedora. Name "Redhat" is used only for Commercial enterpise distribution.
There is not difference between using/mantaining of them. But the main difference is that Redhat 9 has pretty old version of kernel, and other packages and is not supported by Oracle.
What are they for?If we are speaking about Linux then we are speaking about Unix like operating system. So your question is just like "What is Windows for?".
Which one should I learn first? As I said before, there is not difference between using/mantaining of them. But as Redhat 9 is pretty old distribution then use RHEL5. There is also existing distribution Centos which is clone of RHEL. When you install Centos 5 in fact you are using RHEL but with changed logos and texts (brands). But unfortunatelly this clone is not officialy supported by Oracle so it can't be use for production Oracle installations. For more informations and download look here: http://www.centos.org
There is also another RHEL clone shipped by Oracle (and is supported by Oracle of course). You can download it from http://edelivery.oracle.com/linux

  • Which one should be installed first Desktop or Admin

    Hi,
Can someone please tell me which one is needed to be installed first....
    Discoverer Desktop or Disc Admin?
    Thanks
    Kumar

    Hi Kumar,
    Disc Admin is needed first.
You first have to set up the EUL, bussiness areas, folders, etc... After you have that set up you can connect using discoverer desktop/plus and create workbooks based off of the work you did in admin.

Generally when creating a Word file from either a Mac or Win7 pc and opening it on two different machines (either one first) it always prompts that the file is open and will be opened as read only.
However opening a CSS file does not prompt that it is already open on or from any machine which is causing code edits to be lost.
What we found from out testing:
    - The file can be saved from one user to the server and WILL NOT PROMPT on other machines until the saving machine has the Dreamweaver program closed completely
    - The file can be closed and  Dreamweaver minimised to the launch bar but it still will not register on other machines that it has been changed.
    - Also, until the  Dreamweaver program is closed on the machines, it will continue to open it's saved version of the file.
    Example Scenario:
    - User 1 opens test.css (which is 2000 lines) and adds some code to the end of the file to bring it up to 2500 lines
    - Meanwhile User 2 opens test.css as well (opens as 2000 lines as User 1’s edits have not yet been saved) and adds in code to bring it to 2300 lines
    - User 1 saves his file and closes it - but  Dreamweaver is still open.
    - User 2 also saves his file and leaves  Dreamweaver  open.
    - The server will report the size and last edit of the file the same as User 2 as he was the last person to save it (and if you open from the Win7 Machine it will show as User 2’s 2300 line version)
    - If User 1 then open's the file again (from either the 'recent' in Dreamweaver OR clicking on the file directly in Finder...which version opens.... The version that User 1 saved! Not the true version on the server, but the version that User 1 edited and saved with 2500 lines in it.
    - Same for User 2, he will open 'his' version with 2300 lines in.
    Other information:
    - Files are opened directly from the server
    - Sometimes the users will save incrementally and re-open
    - Most of the time users will save incrementally and keep the files open
    - The users will never not save incrementally and just save when closing the file once finished
    - The users are usually working on the files all day
    - It is always the bottom lines of code that are lost. It could be a case of the two versions being mixed up and cutting off the newly added lines based on the line count (possibly).
It is as if Dreamweaver is holding a cache of the version locally and then only properly looking back to the server when it has been completely closed. It is very difficult to see how the server is causing such an impact on these files, there are very few logs which are giving any indication to the root cause of the problems.
Anyone know if this is a known issue?
Is there a way that there can be a featured implemented on the server that doesn't allow another user to open a file if it is already open on another machine?
    Thanks

Your server file handling has nothing, and really nothing to do with Adobe software. If files don't get locked for (over-)writing and/or lose connection to the program opening them, then your server is misconfigured. It's as plain and simple and that. Anything from "known file types"/ file associations not being set correctly, MIME types being botched, crooked user privileges and file permissions, missing Mac server extensions, delayed file writing on the server, generic network timeout issues and what have you. Either way, you have written a longwinded post with no real value since you haven't bothered to provide any proper technical info, most notably about the alleged server. Either way, the only way you can "fix" it is by straightening out your server and network configuration, not some magic switch in Adobe's software.

How are you supposed to get help from Apple if you don't know what your serial number is?  They say to input the serial number of the "product" that you are asking about.  Since my problem is how to deauthorize/authorize computers, and they are saying I have more than 5 (which I have never owned more than 5 computers in my life), I can't imagine what serial number they mean.  Does it mean your desktop computer?  If so, which one?  Do they mean your device?  LIke your iPhone, iPod or whatever?  Do they mean the software ON one of your computers and/or devices?  If so, which program, and on which computer/device?
We have three operational computers, one does not have iTunes on it.  Since Apple is saying I have more than 5 authorized computers, and I can't imagine what they are, I am afraid to deauthorize all my computers.  See what I mean?  I just wanted to ask the question about how I can find out WHICH computers Apple thinks I have authorized, so I can decide if it's safe to deauthorize them all or not.  I only know of 2 computers that have iTunes on them, so how can there be 5?  We also have 2 iPhones and 2 iPods in this family, but one of the iPhones has his own apple id.  He may have been using mine, since his computer died.  I read that those don't count as "computers" to the 5.  Do they, then?
Help!  I can't contact apple because I have no idea what they mean about serial number.  I doubt they would help me anyway.  In order to get the serial number off my desktop computer (that has iTunes on it already), I will have to move furniture, so I don't want to if that's not it.  Is there some way to find the serial number in the software, either on my desktop or my iPhone?

You could have more 5 computers authorized if you ever, for example, reformatted a hard drive or replaced a hard drive without deauthorizing the computer first. Apple's system would see that as a different computer, even though you don't. There's nothing to be afraid of in deauthorizing everything and the reauthorizing what you actually have. You won't lose any data. Mistimp is correct, they can't tell you which computers are authorized.
