Which one of these 12volt/car charger for MacBook Pro would you choose..???

Hi everyone.
I am looking for a suitable 12volt/car charger, so i can charge my brand new MacBook Pro directly from our caravan batteries via a car/12 volt socket. I dont want to use a inverter, as it draws unnecessary power from the vans batteries.
I am being cautious as I don't want to use a product that is not 100% compatible here in Australia and might void the warranty in any way.
I can not find anything suitable manufactured by Apple but I have found many 3rd party alternatives, ranging from approx $50 up to a couple of hundred.
Has anyone had any experience with any of these products.

Thanks for your help in advance

Hi Carl, Thank you for your help. I am still none the wiser which one to pick. You say they are not equivalent, but don't they all do the same job. I never was any good at joining the dots, my spelling is shocking and I really wouldn't know a technical error even if it was starring me in the face.
Have a good one.

  • Which one of these options are better for CDS updation?

    Hi,
I was going through the data flow in the outbound direction in NW mobile.
the data object instances in the CDS are updated by 3 means:
    1)  DOE triggered
    2) backend triggered
    3) backend pushes instance to DOE.
which one of these is better.
kindly explain the reason as well.

    Hi,
Actually there are only two types of Synchronization types between Backend & DOE,
    1. DOE Triggered
    2. Backend Triggered
DOE triggered adapters will pull the data from Backend to DOE where as Backend triggered adapters will push the data from Backend to DOE (there are two types in BE triggered, Key push & Instance push).
Backend triggered sync type is always better since the changes have been pushed to the DOE then & there (this can be achieved by event,etc..). So that always DOE & Backend will be consistent & the receivers (devices) will also get the latest data in order to proceed with their day to day activities (i.e. business critical data).

    Ananth.

  • Which incar charger for Macbook pro ?

    Advise please - I need to charge my Macbook pro 15"(2011)in the car, and having looked around it seems like the choice is;
    a Belkin AC Anywhere - 300W DC/AC Power Inverter for £15.87 (Amazon)
    or
HyperMac Pure DC Car Charger (Protronica) for £119.95
Seems a no-brainer does anyone know of a reason I shouldn't get the Belkin?
The HyperMac says "it is the ONLY non-Apple solution that supports the MacBook Pro dual voltage (16.5~18.5V) operation." Do I need to worry about this?

I have been also looking into getting a car charger and also an external batter and I have to agree with what hypermac say on their website that using a set up transformer and then step down the voltage agian with the normal apple charger is not an option I would liek to consider. in the way of efficieny it is not great you have two transformers radiating heat out so thats a mass of energy down the drain already. and also the comment they made on changing the current form DC to AC then from AC back to DC does not seem very good.
Personally I would suggest buy the airline adapter from apple and then get the Hypermac stuffs. also if you use the Airline apater version rather than the Hypermac box thingy where oyu have to modify the cable it will be an easy thign just plugging in the airline adapter into another adapter so its simple for peopel who dont like messing around with cables I think
I would of cause be interested to hear other peoples opinions on this.
sadly I gotta say I am very dissapoited that apple do not have their own car charger. and also even more a backup battery this is a real downfall I have to say which dissapoints me. Since you cannot just simplly swap the internal battery in the mac.

  • Car charger for Macbook/Macbook Pro

Okay Apple... so all of us road warriors who ponied up for the new laptops (for which there are precious few extra batteries) are wondering what is up with car chargers for the speedy new babies.
According to Lind AND Kensington, you (Apple) have refused to allow third parties to make Auto/Air chargers for the new laptops. Hopefully this means one is coming soon... right??
The crummy alternative is to use a DC to AC converter which is horribly inefficient and requires you to have the car running the whole time the laptop is plugged into it to keep from killing your car battery...
Come on Apple, release the cool car charger already!!!
17" Macbook Pro/ Black Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   annoyed there is no auto charger!!!!

Our Magsafe Airline adapter DOES charge the battery in Airlines AND work in cars!
    NO INVERTERS!

  • Apple Care Coverage for Macbook Pro

    Hello,
Last year I opened thread about Apple Care Coverage... and finally I did, purchase apple care for my mbp mid 2012.
unfortunately, my macbook pro date & time keep changing each time I turned it off. I already tried to reset SMC but it is still not working.
looks like my battery died (like PC, it has battery to save date & time) right? also, I have some issues with my display, it showed something (like dead pixel) but only when I put my display on full  black color, pixels is showing kind of white/grayish color.
Plus my backlight keyboard (some of its keyboard tuts) is not so bright like normal.
those 3 problems above, Can I claim it to Apple Authorized Reseller (Indonesia doesn't have Apple Store). to fix it for me for free? or will I get charged for price?
does Apple Care cover up these 3 problems?

The only thing that I can think of that may not be replaceable under AppleCare is the battery: Apple considers the batteries on MacBook Pros to be 'consumables.' But it's worth a shot.
You may not have problems getting the battery replaced and your AppleCare should take care of the other problems.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Is it OK to charge the Macbook Air with charge for Macbook Pro?  45W to 60W...

Can I charge my Macbook Air with Macbook Pro charger?  It is 45W to 60W.
    What is impact?

You can use a higher wattage charger than the one that came with the computer, but not one of a lower wattage.

  • Macbook Air charger for Macbook Pro Retina?

The Air charger is 45W and the Pro Retina charger is 85W.  I understand that the Pro charger can be used for the Air and forums have said that the Air charger does not provide enough wattage for the Pro.  My question is will the Air charger fully charge the Pro if the Pro is not being used while it is plugged in?  And will the Air charger overheat or burn out per se if used for the Pro while the Pro is being used.

It will charge the Retina (if the retina is off) but slowly, and it will run hot, make sure that it has decent airflow.

  • Apple Care Registration for Macbook Pro

Hi all, I bought a Apple care together with my MACbook Pro, but the thing is once I register it doesnt go through after "3. Provide your address information" item 1 and 2 is finished and has a check already but doesnt go through. No next button or ok button. But some details are seen at the left. The only thing clickable is the signout. I signed out. Then signed in again and it tells me I have no apple care registration. Any ideas? Thanks!

  • Best care practices for macbook pro

Hi I would like to be more active in preventing issues on my macbook.  I use it constantly for school and work, and I rely on it heavily, and so I want to keep it running as best as possible for as long as possible, understanding that while some degradation is inevitable, there is a lot that is preventable.  I apologize if there is another thread like this, i did search, but didnt find anything.  thanks in advance for any feedback from those much more knowledgeable than myself.  I'm runnin:
    MacBookPro8,1
    Os 10.7.2
    2.7 ghz Intel Core i7
    4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    Boot ROM Version:          MBP81.0047.B24
    SMC Version (system):          1.68f98
I'm basically looking for tips on the best diagnostics software for my system, and the best implementation of the software (run it off an external? etc) and best practices for the keeping the computer running smoothly. Thanks again. -dL

Make redundant backups, keeping at least one off-site at all times. One backup is not enough. Don’t back up your backups; make them independent of each other. Don’t rely completely on any single backup method, such as Time Machine.
Keep your software up to date. Software Update can be set to notify you automatically of updates to the Mac OS. Some third-party applications have a similar feature, if you don’t mind letting them phone home. Otherwise you have to check yourself on a regular basis.
Don't install crapware, such as "haxies," “add-ons,” “toolbars,” “enhancers," “optimizers,” “accelerators,” “extenders,” “cache cleaners,” “defragmenters,” “firewalls,” “guardians,” “defenders,” “protectors,” most “plugins,” commercial "virus scanners,” or "utilities." With very few exceptions, this kind of software is useless, or worse than useless. The more actively promoted the product, the more likely it is to be junk. The only software you should install is that which (a) directly enables you to do the things you use a computer for: creating and editing documents, communicating, playing, and so on; and (b) does not modify the way other software works. Never install third-party software of any kind unless you know how to uninstall it.
The free anti-malware application ClamXav is not crap, and although not needed by everyone, may be useful under some circumstances, such as being on a mixed Mac-Windows enterprise network.
Beware of trojans. A trojan is malicious software (“malware”) that the user is duped into installing voluntarily. Such attacks were rare on the Mac platform until recently, but are now increasingly common, and increasingly dangerous. There is some built-in protection against downloading malware, but you can’t rely on it -- the attackers are always one day ahead of the defense. You can’t rely on third-party protection either. What you can rely on is common-sense awareness -- not paranoia, which only makes you more vulnerable. Never install software from an untrustworthy or unknown source. If in doubt, do some research. If a web page seems deceptive, it is deceptive. Any page that prompts you to install a “codec” or “plugin” that comes from the same site, or an unknown site, is untrustworthy. Software with a known corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash, must be acquired directly from the developer. No intermediary is acceptable, and don’t trust links unless you know how to parse them. Any file that is automatically downloaded from a web page without your having requested it should go straight into the Trash. Any website that tells you that you have a “virus” or that something is wrong with your computer is rogue.
Relax, don’t do it. Besides the above, no routine maintenance is necessary or beneficial for the vast majority of users, specifically not “cleaning caches,” “zapping the PRAM,” “rebuilding the directory,” or “repairing permissions.” Such measures are for solving problems as they arise, not for preventive maintenance. The very height of futility is running an expensive third-party utility called “Disk Warrior” when nothing is wrong, or even when something is wrong and you have backups, which you must have. Don’t waste money on Disk Warrior or anything like it.
