Which one to get???

I am trying to decide whether to get the Airport Express or Airport Extreme.
I am new to wireless.
I now have 2 macs and 3 PCs in the house with one USB printer and wires running everywhere.
I have a DSL modem.
I like the idea of the AE and itunes but it is not a big priority, though I would like to save a few bucks.
The other thing is, none of my computer are equipped for wireless at this point so it would be a slow process (budgets) of getting usb dongles or cards for each so in the mean time, would I still have to use my router or would it be as simple as hooking an ethernet hub to one of the Airport products??(I hope)
What kind of range are people getting anyway?
I have another building here about 50 feet away that I would like to have a network connection to.
Any ideas or suggestions welcome.
And one more bizarre question.I am now staying in Japan and I would think that the airport products are international like Mac OS?

If you're willing to spend £150-£200, that's about what it will cost you.
Really, that's a pretty vague question. You want an OLD BlackBerry, say a 8310, you'll spend much less.
You want a 8520 or 9700, you'll spend about that.
Roughly speaking.

  • Do I need a screen guard for my Ipad? If yes which one to get? You get a **** lot of variety in the market.

Do I need a screen guard for my Ipad? If yes which one to get? You get a **** lot of variety in the market.

I originally had a Zagg screen cover but they are tricky to install good. Too easy for a piece of lint or such to get under them. I replaced it with a cheap 'three covers for 5 dollars' screen protector. It's a bit annoying because its glossy....but right now I have my iPad in a Zagg portfolio so it's in a case with a keyboard - and there are little rubber bumpers that touch the iPad, and I like the thought of having the screen protector there just in case.
Look for one that advertises no residue and that clings more by static than any adhesive. I'd also look and see if it advertises clarity and a matte surface...the glossy iPad screen can be a bit tricky in the wrong lighting.
I'll always have one on mine, just because. I've sunk a chunk o change into this and I'd like to protect it.

  • TV on my MacBook, living in Ireland, which one to get?

    Hi All,
I want to watch TV on my MacBook, but I dont know if any off them will work, Elgato was the ones I was looking at. We have a satellite dish on the roof and have the digital sky box in the TV room, we dont have an aerial anywhere and only get very bad reception on the Irish stations, which I presume are decribed as analogue, are they? Antway what do I need to get TV on the MacBook? Anyone have it in Ireland? Im in Kildare.

The Elgato tv tuners are excellent but which one to get depends on your TV reception. You need to find out if you can get Digital Freeview in your area. I can recommend the EyeTV Hybrid which is good for analogue and digital. The EyeTV Diversity great if you can get Digital but pointless if not.
Whatever you do you're going to need a decent arial if the reception is bad in you area.

  • Which one will get better performance when traversing an ArrayList,  iterat

    hi, everyone,
Which one will get better performance when traversing an ArrayList, iterators, or index(get(i))?
    Any reply would be valuable.
    Thank you in advance.

Use the iterator, or a foreach loop, which is just syntactic sugar over an iterator. The cases where there is a noticeable difference will be extremely rare. You would only use get() if you actually measured a bottleneck, changed it, re-tested, and found significant improvement. An iterator will give O(n) time for iterating over any collection. Using get() only works on Lists, and for a LinkedList, gives O(n^2).

  • SOLID STATE DRIVE, WHICH ONE TO GET?  I NEED HELP me please!

So I am looking to get a SOLID STATE DRIVE but not sure which one to buy, I had gotten the intel x25 80gb but its too small and not too much different from my stock hdd. I mean sure its fast but not worth $200 thats for sure. I need a top quality, flying fast and worth the money SSD, SO WHICH ONE DO YOU RECOMMEND? I was going for the c300 from crucial the 128gb to be exact, but I have heard so many bad things.
My current setup is 13" i5 2011 version, with 8gb ram upgrade.
Im running OS X 10.6.7 and Windows 7 boot camp as well.
I need to know before I go to store tonight.
    thanks!

Many users on this forum are very happy with OWC's line of SSD. They're located in the greater Chicago area but I don't think they have a retail store you can drop into. Great vendor in that they offer good prices, they specialize in Macs, great service and they're stuff is high quality. You can visit the SSD section at:

BTW please don't type in all caps, it comes across as yelling. We can hear you fine.

  • Pro vs Air. Which one to get?

I will be attending college this coming fall and I plan on getting a new laptop but after having problems with my windows I have decided to take the plunge and get a Mac.
I am deciding between the 13 inch Pro and 13 inch air. I will not be doing any video editing or anything super major on it just the regular stuff like papers, reports, powerpoints, browsing the internet, Netflix, music downloading, etc.  Also which route should I go for memory?
Also apologizes if this is the wrong section to post this in:)

Both are great.  And both are very portable.  I just switched from PC to Mac last week and struggled with the same choices you are considering: a 13" Air or a 13" Pro w/retina. I bought the Pro and am loving it.  It weighs half of what my old 15.6" PC laptop weighed and is a breeze to carry around.  The Air is thinner, but they weigh almost the same thing (the Air is around 3 lbs. and the Pro about 3 1/2 lbs.). Both do exactly the same things and work exactly the same way.  The advantage of the Air is ridiculously long battery life.  The Pro, on the other hand, has an incredible screen display. One thing I did, that you might want to do too, is go to an Apple store and look at them both side by side. Look at the screens from different viewing angles, and pick them both up; hold them in your hand for a minute and see if the weight difference matters to you. Another thing I strongly recommend is getting Apple Care protection, and if you live near an Apple Store, get the One-to-One also.  I live too far from an Apple Store to be able to go in for One-to-One, but wish I could because the difference between a PC and a Mac is pretty huge.  I've only had mine a week now, and the more I discover, the more I believe Apple's operating system (Mavericks) is a billion times better than Windows 8.  I am thrilled that I made the switch and I'm sure you will be too.

  • I want to get an iphone but don't know which one to get.

I want to get a 5C but I'm not sure if 5S or 4S is better.

    Compare the specs here:
    http://www.apple.com/iphone/compare/
Decide which things are important to you and how much money you have to spend. Then purchase accordingly.
    Best of luck.
P.S. Plain black type works is generally easier to read and plays better on more devices.

  • Help in deciding which one to get.

    Hi guys,
So I'm about to buy my first Macbook and I've narroed it down to 3 choices.
This will be for use at uni and other really simple stuff, no games or anything, mostly web browsing, waching videos and word docs.
    1. 13/i5/256GB/8GB = ~1400
    2. 13/i7/128GB/8GB = ~1300
So seeing that I am leaning towards the i5 more (since its got the better battery and mobility is a concern since I'm going to and from uni most days).
And the i5 is at around 1400$, why don't I just get the Macbook PRO (basic with 8GB), which is only a $100 more.
It just sort of makes more sense, since there isn't such a great price difference and I'm getting the PRO?
    3. PRO 13/i5/128GB/8GB = ~1500
And just last question, does having 256GB make much of a difference? I mean I have a 128GB on my desktop, and I've only got 30GB filled, that is with the games I play too (Diablo 3 etc.)
So, even if I did get the 128GB, I probably would of gotten a external anyway??
    Cheers
    Clement

For the uses you describe, if it was me I would get the new $999 13/i5/128Gb/4GB.
There are arguments to be made for buying more than that, but again, given your intended use, that is what I would get. I have mid-2012 version with those specs and it has been and continues to be outstanding for that type of use.

  • First Mac!!! Which  one to get for Photoshop?

I'm so excited, yesterday I got approval from my wife for a Mac. I've been a PC since the DOS days. This will be a bit of a learning experience, but I am looking forward to it.
The only "heavy duty" use the computer will see is Photoshop. I use Lightroom for 90% of the photos I take. The other 10% go into Photoshop.
I am struggling with choosing the right Mac.
I like the portability of the 13" MacBook Pro. I not sure it will be enough for PS.
My 2nd choice would be the 15" MacBook Pro. I like the higher resolution display (1680X1050) quadcore.
As I write this I am seeing the the 15" is really the way to go. What are your thoughts?
    Thanks
    Monty

Thanks for your input. As usual I went over board THis is what I got:
    2.0GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
    4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
    500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
MacBook Pro 15-inch Hi-Res Glossy Widescreen Display
I ordered a (slow) spinning hard disk. Later in the year, when larger drives become affordable, I plan on purchasing an SSD.
Looks good on the whole. But especially with Photoshop and Lightroom, you will seriously be holding back the top-line i7 processor, SSD, and 64-bit hardware you paid good money for, until you get well above the 4GB RAM. So get more RAM next, it will boost performance in the months while you wait for a cheaper SSD. I get my RAM at macsales.com, and if you have the cash they can even get you to 16GB.
If you want some photography-oriented performance analysis about the laptop you're buying, check the MacBook Pro/Photoshop/Lightroom tests at macperformanceguide.com. Note what he says about RAM in that article, and the difference more RAM makes with the apps you are concerned with. You don't have to get 16GB because it costs too much right now, 8GB will be great.
The last two laptops I owned had anti-glare screen. The one prior that them had a glossy screen. That is the only think I am apprehensive about. I sure it will be fine!
I was at the Apple Store the other day and they had the non-glare MacBook Pro in the showroom. It definitely looks duller than the shiny glossy screens. But I probably would buy the nonglare myself.

  • Discounted iPad...which one to get??

I get a 15% discount and can't decide between the mini or 4th gen.  I would get the 32gb mini with cellular or the 4 wifi only. I know the 4 is gorgeous, but the size and weight on mini are so nice.   Should I get the 4 and hope for a quick reboot on an iPad mini retina?  I can't decide.

That is precisely what I do, how did you know? No problem at all. To be honest I got a 3 and first day of mini sales I went to apple store to check resolution on mini. Reason is my wife is still using 1 and image quality is just soo much better on 3. So I wanted to see how much I lose on resolution on mini. You normally would not notice it as a problem, until you start looking at the pictures close. I mean magnifying those, and then you really want the best. On another note - I kind of feel if apple would make 12 inch screen, I would jump. I like big screens, but I can also get the value of mini, like if you travel for work and need to have cellular on the go and keep it separate from your phone. I stopped using car GPS, after apple updated 3 to siri and apple maps. Love the directions feature, and mini would be better for cases when I would drive with someone, on the right front sit. But if you got a iphone, my prospective you don't really need mini.

  • SOLID STATE DRIVE, WHICH ONE TO GET?  I NEED HELP

So I currently have the early 2011 Macbook Pro 13" i5 8GB Ram. I want to get a SSD but I cannot make up my mind, I did buy the 80GB X-25 Intel but its too small and too slow for me. I was about to get the crucial c300 128gb today but I heard about all the problems. So guys and gals, help me out. I want to get something under $300 and under 180gb, so what do you think is best easy to install without issues.
I will need to buy today so help!

  • Getting a Case(Shell) for my White MacBook. Which one to get?

Hey guys, my question is what should i get as a shell. I read the reviews for the spec shells that they stain the macbook and scratch it. What should I get? And another question what product would you guys recommend for cleaning the screen?
I have the 13'' white macbook.

I wouldn't bother with a shell myself. They don't really do anything but waste money and add unnecessary bulk to the system. They aren't going to magically protect your system from a good drop off a table or anything like that. Hard shells will just translate all that energy right into the system. A rubberized shell might absorb SOME of the shock, but probably never enough to really be worthwhile.
As for cleaning the screen... A soft lint free cloth and a little water is all you should really need. Just go to an auto parts store, or the auto parts section of some retail store, and get a chamois.
The most important things to remember here is to turn the system off and remove/disconnect the battery FIRST. Then you want to be gentle with the pressure you apply to the screen. It's very easy to crush the little LCD cells and transistors that control them, so do not press hard. If you have ever seen how an LCD discolors if you press your finger against it, that is a warning sign that you're pressing too hard and are in danger of permanently damaging the screen. So use less pressure than that.

  • Looking to get an iPhone, which one?

So, within the next month I am looking to switch providers and finally get an iPhone.
I'm curious about which one to get. Do I go for the iPhone 4, or should I just get a 3GS? I'm wondering about supply issues, obviously. When I want to get one, I want to go to the store and leave with phone in hand.

I would say that if you buy a new iPhone with iOS4 already installed, you're less likely to have any issues with it as it seems the problems occur when you upgrade the device using iTunes.
The iPhone 4 has twice the system memory of the 3GS and I think that could make a little difference. I have a 3Gs now, upgraded to 4.0.1 and it has been working well for me, but I can see how the iPhone 4 should be better at keeping more programs running in memory.
Mostly I have been seeing better battery run times, however, it's never seems like enough battery time. The iPhone 4 has more. If you add up all the extras, you'll realize it's worth the extra wait. I've always used a case with my phones.
