Which one to turn off?

I´ve just plugged my airport card and started surfing the web wirelessly with the airport extreme base station. I´m very happy with it! I had bought the add-ins almost two years ago and was fearful I couldn´t be able to install them, but anyway, silly enough.
In terms of security and not losing features that I had when I has wired internet, like Mail automatically checking new mails etc., what´s best when I put my iBook to sleep: turn the base station off or turn airport off on its sidebar menu?
Cheers,
Paulo

...what´s best when I put my iBook to sleep: turn the base station off or turn airport off on its sidebar menu?
You don't need to do either. When you put you iBook to sleep the iBook's wireless connection is disconnected. Since the iBook is sleeping, nothing is operating on the iBook therefore nobody can access it wirelessly.

Question about the sensor... just got my 4s yesterday after screwing up my 3 with the laterd version update. EVery call I have been on has either changed to speaker, called another number or ended the call or activated facetime, which I have turned off. never had this trouble with my 3...I don't even want to talk to anyone on this phone! Is the sensor bad? That is what the AT&t rep suggested.

Restore as new... if the problem still continues then there is a hardware issue.
If it stops after a restore as new, then the issue is with the backup the device is currently setup with.

  • Well my iphone was reducing my prepaid load, how will I know which apps doing this?Or which settings to turn off so it will not use my prepaid load?

    As stated above,kindly help...

Deleting on one device does not affect another device.
You can delete the App's on the iPhone and nothing will happen to the ones on the iPad.
    1.  You don't need to.
    2.  Settings->Cellular->"Use Cellular Data For" will show the data usage for each App since the last statistics reset
    3.  Settings->General->Background App Refresh Will show which Apps are allowed to get data in the background
    4.  It restricts it to Wifi.  If the App requires internet access and Data is turned off, it will have to wait until the device is connected to a wifi network.
    5.  Nope, You just use up battery since the BT radio will continuously look for nearby BT devices.
    6.  The Personal Hotspot uses your cellular internet connection from your phone or other cellular device; whether you consider that secure or not I cannot say.  It also depends on what you are doing while connected to the Hotel's wifi. I would not do online banking while on vacation though.

  • IPod which will not turn off

My iPod often turns on by itself. Which makes for great fun in the middle of the night but the only way this does not happen if the battery is discharged completely. It is a 20G click wheel. Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Turn off the alarm.
Go to extras/clock/alarm and set it to off. Check the calendar also, extras/calendar/alarm.

  • When watching a streamed movie, Firefox works briefly, stops, buffers, and then prevents any further action on my Mac, which I must turn off with power button.

A streamed movie will run smoothly for maybe 5 minutes. Then it will begin to buffer. The multicolored icon turns and turns and nothing happens. I try to go back to browsing but cannot. I try to close netflix but cannot. I try to close Firefox but cannot. Everything is basically frozen and the only way I can turn off my Mac is to press the power button.

Have you tried anything on this page?

  • Dual display with one display turned off

I'm having a problem that I cannot figure out...
I run my 21" computer monitor as my primary display. I have my 42" TV as a second display when I play WoW. I'm not running in mirrored mode. The problem I'm trying to resolve is if I decide NOT to play WoW on my TV (leaving the TV off), but rather run it on my 21" primary monitor, the WoW application (when started) is being display on the TV as a extended monitor. How can I bring (drag or otherwise) that application over to my 21" primary monitor without turning on the TV to drag it over?
    Thanks for any help...

Just to let you know...When you have two displays hooked up to your computer. The video ram is split between the two monitors, even if you have the second monitor off. When not using the second monitor you might want to disconnect it from the computer so the main monitor uses the full video ram.

I am trying to implement a strategy where the last session bean to be accessing an entity bean removes that entity bean before going out of scope.
Essentially a session bean looks for a particular entity bean and if it isn't there creates it. As each session bean is about to be destroyed I want it to either try to remove the entity bean or see if any other session beans are accessiong that entity bean. I want the last session bean to remove the entity bean as it is being destroyed.

I'm not a session bean expert, but I have some ideas that might get you started.
The only requirement is that the session beans somehow know when they are created and destroyed. Is this possible? If yes, then my idea will work.
My basic idea is to implement a reference counter for the entity bean.
You will either need a static field that is used as a reference counter in the entity bean (don't know if that is allowed under the spec) or some kind of singleton that has the field.
When the entity bean is first created (by the first session bean), set the reference counter to 1. Any time another session bean is created, increment the counter.
Whenever a session bean is destroyed, decrement the counter. When the counter reaches zero, you should be able to remove the entity bean safely.
Of course, none of this will work unless the session beans receive come kind of notification when they are created / destroyed.

  • My storage on my iCloud is almost full, and I turned off some apps that I don't want to be backed up. So if I press the button delete back up, is it going to delete all of the apps that I'm backing up, or just the ones that I turned off?

I keep on getting E-mails that notifies me that my storage is almost full. I don't want to press that button until my question has been answered.

It will delete the entire backup, so you'll have to back up again after doing this.  The new backup will only contain the apps (and other data) that you have selected and omit the ones you turned off.

  • Two iPhones on same MobileMe account but one keeps turning a calendar on.

Hello. I have two iPhones that I have connected to one MobileMe account. We do that so certain calendars, notes, etc will sync. I have a certain set of calendars turned on on one of them and a different set on the other. I made a new calendar for bills and one for other reminders that we both don't need. Turned them on on one and off on the other. On the one which they are turned off, one of them keeps turning back on after it is switched off. I have not been able to determine how long it takes but it eventually does turn on because the next time the reminders are supposed to come up it is definitely on there. Any idea why this might be?

But could I at least use the Find My Iphone app on the second Iphone if I just leave all the other Icloud options off?  If I activate Find My Iphone on the second phone, will it just show two Iphones in the menu when I search for the Iphone on my Mac, or do I need to set up a second Icloud account for the second phone?
    That will work just fine.

  • TS3992 Altho' my 4S iPhone is connected to Wi-fi & I have a correct Apple/icloud ID and password, I keep getting the message "icloud backup Failed. Turn off airplane mode, or use Wi-Fi to enable iCloud backup." Should I delete my account, setting up a new

I cannot activate my iCloud backup of my 4S iPhone, even though I have definitely deactivated Airplane mode, and am connected to Wi-Fi.  I also have a correct Apple/iCloud ID and password.
Should I delete my iCloud account and set up a new one??
Please give me some assistance with this problem!
    Sincerely, Brianrit

To unfreeze it, reset it by holding the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release.
To troubleshoot your problem with backing up to iCloud, this may be caused by a corrupt existing backup that needs to be deleted, or by data on your iPad that is preventing the backup from succeeding.  To troubleshoot these, try deleting your last iCloud backup (if you have one) by turning off iCloud Backup in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, then tap Manage Storage, swipe across your backup and tap Delete, then go back and turn iCloud Backup back on and try backing up again.
If it still won't back up, you may have an app that is preventing the backup from succeeding.  To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is preventing the backup and you'll have to located by process of elimination. Turn the camera roll On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, turn some of your apps to On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds again, turn some more apps to On then try again; repeat this process until it fails.  Eventually you'll be able to locate the problem app and exclude it from your backup.

  • After connecting to Bluetooth keyboard, iPad 2 will not connect to Internet (wifi) at all. Wifi is ok, have tried turning off bltooth, wifi on iPad. It sees the network but won't connect.  Help?  Have also reset network settings etc

My iPad wifi was working great until I I connected it by Bluetooth to a keyboard (zagg).  It was the first time I'd used Bluetooth
Immediately Internet was dropped on my ipad. My iPhone was and is still connected no prob. And I cannot get the iPad wifi to work again....at all!!!
This is major as I am away from my desktop for three months.  Any fix cannot involve being at my desktop with iTunes which is 10,000 km away
So far This is what I've tried based on other discussions-
-turned Bluetooth off and unpaired to keyboard which was also turned off
    - turned iPad wifi off and on (several times)
    - forgot the network I useArrive Jul 19 depart Aug 25th. Originally it was Sept 9.
    -- reset network settings
What happens is that the iPad sees the network and I enter my password. But, instead of getting "check mark" indicating a successful connections it keeps "circling".  Sometimes the airport bars will show, but disappear or flicker.  It never connects with a check noted in settings.   Any attempts to use internet confirm there is no connection
My network is not a cafe or public network. It is one I regularly use here at my family's home where I am visiting
    Any ideas!

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router. Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

  • Is it possible to turn off selected audio tracks for export?

    Hi,
I have worked with fcp 5 before on a project with two languages. Beside the footage audio, each language had its own audio track which I could turn off for export. It was nice to have all languages in one project, because changes had effect for all languages at the same time.
Is it possible to turn off audio tracks in fcpX for export?
I know that fcpX hasn't tracks anymore, but is there a similar function to serve the same purpose?
I am not a professional editor.

I am blissfully unaware of how production companies work .
The project I am working on is a pretty straight forward instruction video. I will be shooting the video, edit and then have the comments recorded by professionals. In DVDPro I will put them both together.
The magnetic timeline is kind of irritating. I will have to work on the languages one after the other. So once I have a language done, I will probably create a compound clip to prevent the sliding around. That would also make it easier to enable or disable the clips.

  • Dumb Newby Here: Turn off DHCP

Hello. In trying to set up my cloud, I click on "back to my mac" to enable that, and a bubble appears: More.
I click on that and the message says: "back to my mac may be slow because more than one device on your network is providing network services. Turn Off NAT and DHCP on one of hte devices and try again. See the documentation that came with the device for info about turning off network services"
WHICH two devices, and how do I tell? And which should be turned off?
I have one airport. (I got a time capsule, but not set it up yet...ten things at a time is all I am good for...)
Thanks if anyone can try to help.
    Back tomorrow.

Well, what you describe is a straightforward modem, not a modem with a router, which makes the error message you are getting a mystery. You need to leave Airport set to share the connection if you have more than one device connected to it (by either ethernet or wifi). Whether the modem is passing your ISP-allocated IP number on to the Airport or allocating it's own may be the issue.
Open Airport Utility, click the 'Manual Setup' button, and you should open to the 'Summary' tab (if not, select it). The very bottom entry is 'IP' address. If this begins with 10, 172 or 192 then the modem is issuing the IP number; any other number is the one allocated to your connection by your ISP (you could connect just one machine to the modem in this case, and it would receive this number).
If the router is issuing a 10, 172 or 192 number this can be the cause of the problem, particularly if it's a 10 number - this range is used by Airport. You would need to speak to your ISP about this.
You can buy ADSL modems, but it depends on whether your ISP will raise objections, and you would need to make sure that you can get one which acts as a modem only.
However, all this arises from a 'Back to My Mac' error message, and it's possible this may not even be relevant. Is everything else working without any difficulty? In fact, does 'Back to my Mac' work OK? If so I should just forget about it.

  • My MacBook Pro keeps starting up in safe mode and then just before halfway through it turns off

I shutdown my mac as it was working slowly. The startup disk was almost full so I decided to restart it. Once I restarted it it was stuck trying to start up so I restarted it in safe mode. Now the safe mode bar loads about 40% then disappears completely after which the mac turns off. I have tried PRAM reset. What is likely to be the problem?

    Maximillianmann,
depending upon how full “almost full” actually is, that could be the problem.
You can try this, if you have Mac OS X 10.7 or newer installed, to see if it’s not related to your disk being almost full: boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Once you hear the startup chime, try booting into Safe mode; does it let you do so now?
