Which Operating System works best with CS3?

Just want your thoughts. Since I am having some minor
compatibility issue with CS# and XP Home, I was told that the best
way to rectify this is to upgrade to XP Pro SP2. I am wondering if
it wouldn't be better to upgrade to Vista Home Premium SP1. What
are your thoughts?

You could always upgrade to a Mac. Sorry just had to through
that in there.
On the Windows side, as of right now, you will only be able
to get XP Pro until June 30th. Support is slated to end around 2010
I believe.
Personally it depends on who you ask and what your computer
is capable of. If your computer is fairly new and can upgrade to a
maximum of 4 gigs (the limit set by a 32-bit OS) I would say go for
the Visa Home Premium 32-bit edition. If you are unsure of how much
you can upgrade your computers memory check out www.crucial.com and
use the memory finder tool. It will install an application and tell
you the current and maximum memory configuration allowed for your
machine.
If your computer is older and cannot upgrade that far I would
say go get an XP Pro upgrade before MS stops selling it.

I cannot comment of Airport products, as I have none.  Nor would I suppose to argue with Kappy or Ralph.
But in a pinch a LinkSys E2500 will work, as it does for me.

  • Which camera will work best with the MAC? NIKON or Canon

Contemplating on buy a camera and a MAC, but need to know which camera will work best with a MAC, Nikon or Canon? Any info is appreciated

Both will work very well. You might not even need to install the software that comes with them because they'll probably work fine with iPhoto etc. Before you buy a camera, check this list of cameras supported by OS X:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3825
Just about all Nikon and Canon cameras are on that list. If a camera is so new it is not yet on that list, it will be in the next update, probably.
That list is for raw format compatibility. If your camera also shoots JPEG, it will work with a Mac even if it's not on that list. If a camera doesn't work by plugging in a cable, take the card out and put it in an ordinary USB card reader and the Mac will read it.
Nikon has a slight advantage in that it supports a mode that lets the Mac mount a camera like a disk on the desktop. Canons don't mount on the desktop, but it's not really a disadvantage, because Canons still work great with Apple iPhoto, Apple Aperture, Apple Image Capture, and Adobe apps, and all of those are more efficient ways of transferring photos than dragging them out manually.

  • Which Digidesign interfaces work best with Logic Pro ?

Can anyone tell which of these work best with Logic if any at all?
    - Digi-003
    - M-Box Pro
    - M-box2
    - M-Box mini
    - M-Powered

    Thanks for the posts
After hearing complaints about latency, driver
    issues, horrible quality,incompatibility with there
plugs in logic as well as no chance to stand against
performances and sound quality of other hardware half
there prices i thought to ask.
Wow. All that??? And then they recommend Migraine-Audio to you??? I don't think those posters know what they are talking about.
I've been using Logic since it could be used with Digidesign hardware, from version 4.8.1, and it has always worked very well.
It does pay to research the setting up of a DAW computer, as it is almost never just "plug-n-play" like many people believe. But once it is set up, it can run for years without problems. Most people experience problems because they change the setup, install free plugins, change audio gear, every other day of the week, and of course, that makes for a very unstable situation. No wonder they complain. But it is their tech-ethic they should be complaining about, not the equipment.
Can anyone verify there set ups and latency?
Here's one extensive test I did on my Digi 002R:
    http://nicksevilla.com/logicpro-som/LogicTests.html
The latency is the same as with other comparable FireWire interfaces. Not more, and not less.
i wont drag this out into a long post i just want a
round about, all logic users in other forums seem to
be against Digi hardware, most advised to buy the
cheapest possible M-Audio interface just to run M
Powered Pro Tools if i realy need PT at all.
Really??? All of them???And did they know they are advising you to buy stuff that actually does NOT work properly??? Shame on those posters you read, as Digidesign drivers are a LOT more stable that the Migraine-Audio ones. Digidesign themselves told me to stay away from M-Audio... so you read into that whatever you like. I'll keep that advise from them.

  • Which OSX version works best with Logic Pro 7.2

    Hello everyone,
Was hoping i could get some opinions on which osx version works best with logic 7.2
i currently have OSX 10.4.2 but i would like to update at least to 10.4.3 (that is least required to run logic as stated in install manual)...
    should i go for 10.4.4, 10.4.5 or 10.4.6 ?
which would run best with logic pro 7.2?
    thanks much everyone
    Quad G5 2.5ghz 3GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.2)
    Quad G5 2.5ghz 3GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

10.4.5 was rock solid for me, and three days into heavy Logic use at 10.4.6 is proving to be just as good.
Get caught up, and go ahead and update to 10.4.6

  • Which Mac Pro System works best with Premiere Pro CC?

I am looking to upgrade my 12 core tower to the newer Mac Pro. I am wondering if anyone out there has suggestion as to what makes the most sense financially in terms of which  flavor of Mac Pro to get? For example, Is there a significant speed increase between the 8 core vs 12 core, and the D500 Vs the D700 Video Cards ? And how much RAM ? Normally the temptation is to go out and get the maxed out system, but reading though the forums with the various issues people are having with performance on the newer Mac Pro's and Premiere, would be great to know how it stacks up in the real world.
Appreciate any input in this regard.
    Cheers

I thought the only graphic card options on the new Mac Pro are all AMD cards, is that not correct? You can use the Quadro?
    MtD
Yes, thanks I forgot about that. I was just going by what I have, which is an older model so I can apparently just replace it with a newer Quadro.
I'm no apple hardware expert and I'm not sure how the ports are setup. Apple's official support site only lists the AMD cards Chris mentioned for their most recent model, but that's also listed as late 2013 which doesn't seem right either. (or is it?) Note that they also list my mid-2010 model as only supporting ATI Radeon HD 577 and 5870 but I've been running a Quadro FX4800 in it with good results for several years, so I know that part's not right. So I'm not sure I'd take that site entirely literally, but of course you would not want to risk getting the wrong card. You should probably enlist the help of apple support (and/or forums) to get more details and assurance before purchasing, but bottom line is you'll want something with plenty of RAM (~ 4 GB or higher if possible) which will also be compatible with CUDA and or OPenCL playback in prpro.

  • Which operating system is best for computer control using LabVIEW

I am using LabVIEW 7.1 and want to write a program to control a system of pumps, heaters, and  compressors.  I am wondering if using Windows XP is a bad thing, given how many background processes computers tend to use these days.  I don't want my computer to slow down for intermittant checking for updates, or any other sort of routine maintenance computers are set up to do.  I have heard mixed things about windows reliability and computer control, most of which is people saying windows could crash and completely ruin my tests.  Does anyone have any advice on the best operating system to use for continuous computer control of my system?

If you plan on using a desktop PC for control type applications, then your best option in terms of performance will be with a Real-Time operating system. Windows is not deterministic for many reasons. Determinism involves the ability to respond to an event within a specified amount of time with an acceptable amount of error (jitter). First of all, Windows is not deterministic because it has to service mouse and keyboard events, as well as anti-virus software, automatic updates, etc.
You can, however, convert an existing desktop PC to a Real-Time target with a Real-Time OS and use it for your control type application with the deterministic behavior of PXI, Compact FieldPoint, and other Real-Time targets. Check out this link for more information.
On a side note to a previous reply, using the LabVIEW Real-Time module on Windows XP won't make your application deterministic. Your best bet, as others have noted, is to use the LabVIEW RT Module on an RT OS with good RT programming practices (avoiding memory allocations, etc.).

  • Which printer brands work best with Mac?

Well, it sounds like my HP LaserJet 3015 will not duplex with my new Mac (only with PCs, I guess), so I am going to need a new printer. Does anyone have suggestions on which brands of printers work well with the Mac? Thanks in advance...

There are a number of Laserjet 3015 models. Some have automatic duplexing and others do not. If it has duplexing, it should do it whether it is on a Mac or a PC. Make sure you have duplexing and the proper driver for your printer. If you are using a Gutenprint driver instead of the HP driver, you may not have duplexing available. If you click on Options & Supplies in Print & Fax, you will be able to see which driver you are using.

  • Which video camera works best with Premiere Pro CS6

I'm a beginner in working with PP and need to purchase a video camera which will work seemlessly with Premiere Pro.  I don't want to go through a lot of conversion steps. I want to tape my kids sports, be able to take the raw video right from the camera to PP and begin editing, copying etc. Does the Canon HFM 500 with ABCHD formats provide what I need or do I need something more sophisticated?  Just getting started with the whole video editing thing and want to make the right choices before buying a camera. Thanks for any input.

pretty much self explanatory... Mp4. Aiff,ACC, i could have the letters wrong, but in a nutshell what's best...thank you.
    Godspeed,

The best is whatever matches your Sequence settings; in most cases that would be AIFF, 48khz, 16 bit. FCP does NOT work natively with AAC or MP3 files. Both should be converted to AIFF prior to importing into FCP.
All of this basic information is covered thoroughly in the User's Manual and Help Files.

  • Which form would work best with a Filemaker database? PDF or HTML? and can we use a submit button to do this?

We are looking at developing work forms for a project that will use a submit button to send the data from the form to a Filemaker database. My question is can this be done with a PDF or do we need to convert it to a HTML form?

The architecture is not submit form - database, not exactly. It's submit form - web app - database. The crucial thing is the web app, perhaps one of CGI/PHP/ASP/others... FileMaker Pro seems a slightly unusual choice for a web back end, but there is a FileMaker Pro Server product. (Regular FileMaker is out of the question).
So, you can have a web app which takes HTML format submits and updates a database. What about PDF?
    * PDF can submit the same format as HTML, so the same backend can work
    * PDF can submit other formats, FDF or XFDF. The web script could handle these.
Frankly, if HTML is an option I'd go with HTML. There are many important compatibility issues with PDF forms, since so many browsers now do not use Adobe technology, and have their own. In these alternatives, form support goes from nonexistent to flaky, via badly broken.

Just about any current Synology Diskstation. Use one here with Terabytes on it. Has never failed in three years. Serves Mac, Win, Phones, and iPads just fine using SMB2, though supports AFS, and NFS too. Runs custom Linux with easy to use visual administration.
