Which Oracle db version supports partitioning

Hello Everyone reading my post,
I'm a student who needs to work on a partitioned table. I've tried several versions of oracle db but each time I get error ORA-00439: Partitioning feature not enabled.
It would be great help if you can guide me to the right version that supports partitioning.
Thanks

Maran,
I posted the exact version, because there is a huge difference between 8i and 8.0, and a not so huge difference between 7.3 and 8.0. The only difference is mainly partitioning.
This is why an instructor at Oracle University (I won't mention his name, because he is still there), stated internally they labeled 8.0 as Oracle 7.4.
Quite frankly, partitioning would have called for a major redesign of the datadictionary, but Oracle didn't do that, and more or less 'mangled' partitioning in.
He also stated 'some say they did change the rowid, to make sure Forms 3.0 wouldn't work against the new version'. Forms 4.5 was long out then, but apparently no one upgraded
So no insinuation, no flame, no sneer, was intended, not at Alok, not at anyone.
I only posted it, because Alok was incorrect, and because of the difference between various versions.
Consequently, I don't understand the comment of N. Gasporotto.
I think it is quite probably changing the rowid was done with a hidden agenda.
Why would Oracle not try to force people to upgrade?
Oracle is a commercial venture, and Larry has to pay his boats somehow ;)
I'm sorry if I caused any confusion, it was not intended.

  • W2k8 is 32-bit,which oracle 10g version should be installed?

    Hi everyone,
I am a new DBA. Now I will install Oracle 10g on w2k8. I found w2k8 is 32-bit system, i am wandering which oracle 10g version I should install?
    Thanks!

    Go to http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/index.html
Note that Windows 2008 explicitly is listed against 11.1.0.7
Therefore, you can assume that 11.1.0.7 is the first that definitely supports W2008.
And you can assume that anything older than that line is definitely not supported.
And if it is not supported (as is the case for 10g), you can assume that you will run into some kind of problem either during installation or (worse) at some unknown time later.
You can probably find some workaround to make it appear to work. Which is fine ... it's your job. (At least until it stops working.)

  • Oracle Database version support

My manager was asking about our plans to upgrade our current Oracle database version (10.1.0.4). We're currently humming along nicely, so I thought that I'd use an Obsolescence Policy as a guide to push us forward. I looked all over Metalink, but this was the only document I could find, which was a hyperlink from another Metalink document, which advertised it as a 10g Product RoadMap:
    https://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=312470.1
It's not very helpful in that regard, plus it's from Nov 2007. Does anyone have a link to some more current documentation? I really appraciate your help.

Would you please advise me on the version of the following product supported by Oracle Enterprise Edition 10gR2?
    1. Oracle Report
    2. Oracle Form

    Hi,
I think Reports 6i has the option to create character delimited output, which can be used for Excel imports. In Reports 9i the ability to add a mime type that opens Excel directly was added

  • Intel Xeon Windows 64 Bit : Which Oracle software Version?

    Hi!
we have Windows Enterprise Server SP2 <b>64 bit</b> with <b>Intel Xeon</b> processor and would like to install the SOLMAN with Oracle.
According to the original Oracle-DVD from SAP there are only three possible choise entries:
    a) AMD64
    b) IA64
    c) I386
But I have the feeeling it should be one choice like "x86" is not?
    Which one should we apply?
The I386 can be installed indeed, but we are getting the error during the SAPINST-Installation "Oracle software not installed". I thought this entry was only for 32 bit?
The IA63 Bit can not be installed.
<b>Only the AMD64 we could install. But the question is, whether AMD is the same to Intel Xeon?</b>
Thank you very much for any useful help/comments...
    regards

    Hi,
You have still a "32-bit" platform ONLY.
    1. Intel 64 is not AMD64, they are different. AMD64 implementation is only meant for AMD processors although the family is 64T support, full implementation is NOT done.
    2. Your assumption of x86 is correct. You MUST go for I386 option ONLY !!!
    3. Error of "Oracle software not installed" is different and you should not relate it to hardware. It is only for the environment variables and registry.. This will happen even in normal case..
Once again, you should NOT use AMD64 and IA64.. Try only with I386 option..
BTW, firstly, whats the reason for you to choose a 64-bit o/s that are meant for 64 - bit Itanium systems... CHoose a operating system that fits and will work with SAP optimally!
You should only choose a 32 Bit Enterprise edition of operating system. Windows Server 2003 R2 well works in your case and should be your choice !!
Finally your combination should be -
           1. Windows 32 Bit Enterprise Edition R2 ---> O/s
           2. i386   DVD                                      -
    > SAP/ Oracle DB
Hope this helps, revert for queries

  • Any one using 11g DB with Oracle B2B?which oracle DB versions are suported

we're on 10.2.0.3.0 and are in middle of DB upgrade , wanted to check if 11G is right option or just go to 10.2.0.4.0
    Thanks,
    Kalyan

    Hi,
I would recommend you stay on the curent patch set. Application Server 10.1.2.3 with database 10.1.0.5 and the latest Oracle B2B patch.
The certification matrix indicates the highest DB version, in this context, is Oracle Database 10g R2 (10.2). Please verifiy on metalink.
    regards,
    Jeff
P.S. The REPCA utility will not allow you to install into a 11g DB.

  • Find Oracle client version

    hi guys,
How can you find which Oracle client version does SAP 4.6D is using to connect with Oracle.
is there any file or Parameter setting available for this.
    Thanks.
    Chandra

    Hello,
I'm afraid that the answer given by Samrat Dangeti  is incorrect.
V$VERSION tells you the version of the RDBMS ( Oracle Database ) not the version of the client used by SAP.
Please, check the following thread on the Oracle Forum where this is being clarified.
How do I check the oracle client version?

  • Which sql developer version will support oracle 8.1.7

    hi
which sql developer version will support oracle 8.1.7 or is it necessary to use plsql developer to connect to database (oracle 8.1.7)

    Hi,
SQL Developer version 1.2.1 is able to connect to 8.1.7 with limited functionality (prepared reports and browser for objects could not work)..
Next version (tested with 3.2 64-bit) of SQL developer could be "hacked" to connect to 8.1.7 by simply copy file C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\jdbc\lib\classes12.zip from Oracle client prior 11
    into appropriate jdk\jre\lib\ext folder.
