Which Oracle home it's connecting to

Post Author: Huamin

Hi,
For that I have more than one Oracle Home, how do I know which home it should be using, when calling from Crystal report, using ADO?

HuaMin, not a direct answer, but create Two ODBC, one with each of your ORACLE homes, and see if your report runs differently when using one connection as opposed to the other.   (database, Set Database location, create new, point to the new ODBC connection, and your table, or view, or whatever, and map)  Then run your report and see what you get.  I have multiple Oracle homes as well, and I just always point my CR to the one that is from the server, not the one on my box.  (Just habit)

  • Patch 5482266. Which oracle home to install it to

    Hi,
Patch 5482266 Installation has a default home ODACHome1. My Oracle Client is installed in OraClient10g_home1.
Should I switch it to the existing OraClient10g_home1 home or install to the new home? Or it does not matter?
Checked release note, but nothing is mentioned there.
    Thanks.

That patch is for "ORACLE DATA ACCESS SOFTWARE FOR WINDOWS RELEASE 10.2.0.2.20 : ORAMTS PATCHSET 10.2.0.1.0 "; which means you must be having some issue with existing release (from existing home). So you should be running the patch against your existing home and not the new one.
You can make a backup of your existing home before proceeding with the patch so that you can revert the changes, if needed.

  • 10.2 Oracle Home after 11i 12 upgrade

We have done an upgrade of 11.5.9 to 12.0.6 on TEST. We did the DB upgrade separately (ie - not within the rapidinstall part). So, we have the original 10.2 oracle home from 11i, as well as the 10.2 oracle home that was supplied with rapidinstall. Herein lies the question:
    1) Does it matter which Oracle Home is used (presuming both are at the same patchset level? Will their be future implications if the 11i 10.2 oracle home is used?
    2) If we are using the 11i 10.2 Oracle Home, how does one move to the other Oracle Home (the one that the release 12 rapidinstall supplied) - is this part of running the appsutil.zip? Please bear with me on these questions - it's been a couple of months since we did this, and we're just reviewing everything again in further detail.
    Thanks everyone.

    Hi Hussein,
Perhaps I used the wrong words (my apologies).
    1) We upgraded our 11.5.9CU2 9.2.0.8 DB to 10.2.0.4 first, before running rapidinstall (because this is how we plan to do it in PROD - this breaks up the downtimes to our users).
    2) We did not install a 12i 10.2 oracle home per se - when we ran the rapid install, it supplied the filesystem: $ORACLE_BASE/db/tech_st/10.2.0/ - and this is what is a little confusing to me.
    3) During the 11i>12 upgrade, under the "Oracle Applications Upgrade Guide: Release 11i to Release 12.0.4" - Page 3-8 - step 7 - we generated a new context file under the 11i 10.2 oracle home.
    4) So, we clearly are using the 11i 10.2 Oracle Home. So my questions are:
Q1) The filesystem that rapidinstall supplied (as noted in point 2 above) - essentially that is not doing anything - ie - it is a duplication?
Q2) Under the "Oracle Applications Upgrade Guide: Release 11i to Release 12.0.4" - Page 3-2, Oracle says "We strongly recommend that you use the Release 12.0.4 Oracle Home supplied by Rapid Install..." - I guess this is the part that has me a bit confused, or I need a second opinion on. My assumption is that we are OK here in what we did - that being, using the 10.2.0.4 Oracle Home from 11i.
    Thanks very much...Colin

  • Can't Create TNS-connections for different Oracle Homes

I've installed Oracle 9.2 client and also the Oracle XE 10g Database on my computer. So there are two files "tnsnames.ora"
(C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\NETWORK\ADMIN, C:\Programme\ORA92\network\ADMIN). By creating a new connection with

Is there a file where I can configure a different Oracle Client for SQL Developer?

No comments since 2 weeks :-(
So I think there is no possibility to select an installed Oracle client when creating "connections" in SQL Developer.
Would anybody else like to have this feature in future releases of SQL Developer?
PS: In "SQL Navigator" (by Quest Software) you can select your Oracle Client when creating a connection.

I had this same issue only with SSMS 2005 x86.
I unchecked the "Allow inprocess" and I was able to connect.
You will need the security "Be made using this security context" with the U/P that you mention
"+same userid and pwd which I use in SQL* Plus to connect to same oracle database+"
Hopefully you will get pass that issue. The issue I have now is that I can't do a select on
    one of the linked tables.

  • Help please..how to specify Oracle Home directory for create AS connection

I have linux based application server 10g having IP 121.100.115.2 and name as10g.ourdomain.com (/home/oracle/OraHome_2 is AS directory)
I have developed a simple jsp page using JDeveloper10g. In order to deploy this project, I am trying to create Application Server Connection using wizard.
    step1:
    connection name: as10g
    connection type:oracle application server 10g
    step2:
    user name: ias_admin
    password: mypassord
    step3:
enterprise manager OC4J host name: 121.100.115.2
enterprise manager OC4J http port: 1156
Remote Server's Oracle home directory: /oracle/OraHome_2
    step4
    RMI Server URL: ormi://121.100.115.2:23791
    RMI username: admin
    RMI password: {blank}
    step5
When I click on test button I get this error:
Test failed (-2). Invalid Oracle Home directory

When you create the stand alone, in options you can actually set the temp directory and default directory. You can change it there OR in goto options and check for libraries/directories. You can change it there too.

  • Forms installation problem - how do I create a new default Oracle home?

I am new to Oracle so please forgive my utter ignorance. My impression of Oracle because of how an installation
has to be done is taking a nosedive. I thought Microsoft was bad with all the re-booting but the explanation that I
read in Anubhav Seth's post about installing Dev 6i before 8i and the suggestion (not a requirement) to format the
harddisk and reinstall Windows just leaves me with my jaw hanging open. I'm having a little trouble swallowing that
    one.
Here's my situation... I'm running 8i at home and I am using it for the Oracle courses that I am taking at a local
university. So 8i with its SQL*Plus has been all I have needed to date. Now we have a project to do that involves forms.
So I go to the OTN page for downloads and downloaded file 6irel2nt.exe which is 264 MB in size. This file, I assume,
has forms in it -- what else I don't know because things are not explained all that well on the web site or I don't know
where to look (which implies poor organization of the web pages).
I run the 6irel2nt.exe file and end up with 11,128 new files on my computer. That's nice. I run the setup file and a step or
two into it it complains that my 'Ora81' home is already being used and that I need to install it into another Oracle Home.
Now I'm trying to find out how I create another Oracle Home. I perform a search in GOOGLE on "creat default Oracle
home" and basically get nowhere. My $50+ "Oracle 8i A Beginner's Guide" from Oracle Press mentions Oracle Home
on one page (pg. 170) but is completely useless in this case. My $184 worth of Oracle University manuals (which
are really PowerPoint slides) is useless too. My next step will be to comb through the FAQs. All this because I cannot
believe that I have to totally uninstall one product to get another to install and then reinstall the first one. That is INSANE!
If I have gone way off track please feel free to blast me but if this is true then all I can say is that the folks at Oracle need
a lesson in KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid)! Computers and computer software are supposed to make our lives simpler
not complicate the holy hell out of them. I'll get off my soapbox now. Sorry about the whining.

I ended up uninstalling 8i and then I installed Dev 6i (Forms) and then I reinstalled 8i. I had some problems
installing Dev 6i because of this error "path.vrf(86): Unbound variable 'path_too_long_prompt'". Right after this error
appears I get a dialog that states, "The Oracle Installer cannot update the system path variable to %new_path%
because it is too long. Please restrict your system path to 127 characters and make sure D:\Oracle\OraWin95\bin
    is included in your path."
The path D:\Oracle\OraWin95 was what I set up for this installation.
What I did to work around this problem was this...
    (1) Go to Start - Accessories - System Tools - System Information.
    (2) Click on the Tools menu
    (3) Select System Configuration Utility
    (4) Select the Autoexec.bat tab
    (5) I added D:\Oracle\OraWin95\bin to my PATH variable and unchecked the checkbox next to one of the several
lines that I have that build my PATH variable. (I have several PATH lines that simply add a path to the system
variable %path%). After the installation is complete you can go back and turn back on the paths that you had disabled.
After installing 8i I did have a problem connecting to the database. I got this error:
    Error: ORA-01034 Oracle not available
I believe this happened because I had forgotten to turn back on some of my PATH information that I mentioned
earlier. After checking one of my PATH variables and rebooting, this problem disappeared.
When reinstalling 8i and when the installation asks for an SID and you enter the SID you had used in the original
installation you may get a notice that says the SID already exists. I think this happens because the uninstall does not
clean up the registry totally, so I entered a different one. Later on, after the installation has been completed and you
are connecting to your database, you will be prompted to select an SID -- just make sure that you select the SID from
    the latest installation.
I should've mentioned first that in preparing for this whole ridiculous exercise I created a directory under my Oracle
directory that I was going to use as the new 'Oracle home.' So I guess that's all one has to do to create a new Oracle
home -- just have another directory ready to install 'stuff' into.
All in all, this a pretty asinine exercise. Oracle really needs to fix this mess. I honestly thought Microsoft was bad but
this takes the cake. I wonder if SQL Server is this screwed up.

  • What are the Oracle Home and GRID home directory locations for Oracle 12c (12.1.0.5) release

    Hello All,
I plan to install and configure Oracle 12c Cloud Control console on a single standalone server and the version is Oracle 12.1.0.5. All the databases which are installed across in the entire farm/landscape are these versions:
    Oracle 10.2.0.3 Enterprise Edition
    Oracle 10.2.0.4 Enterprise Edition
Oracle 10.2.0.4 Active DataGuard Enterprise Edition
    Oracle 10.2.0.5 Enterprise Edition
    Oracle 11.2.0.1 Enterprise Edition
Oracle 11.2.0.1 Active DataGuard Enterprise Edition
    Oracle 11.2.0.3 RAC Enterprise Edition
All Oracle databases across these versions will use the same version of Oracle Grid since ASM is used for all the Oracle database across Production/Test/Development databases. The OS is RHEL 5.8, RHEL 6.3, OEL 6.3 versions.
When installing the Oracle 12c Cloud Control what is the Oracle and Grid Home directory location need to set to. Please let me know if there are any other additional configurations needed?
Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
    Regards,
    Abhijit

First off, the only EM CC release out right now is 12.1.0.2, not sure where you got 12.1.0.5 (DB Plugin maybe?).
Second, you're confusing EM CC homes with DB/Grid homes.
EM CC will need it's own Oracle Home (i.e. /opt/oracle/product/em_12.1.0.2).   You will need to provide repository database connection information, but EM does not care what home the db or grid is installed in.
I would recommend reviewing the documentation as well as the references on OTN -

  • Finding the path to Oracle home

    Hi
I am trying to get the value of "oracle home" (e.g OraDb11g_home1) and display it within my java program, not sure how to do this. One possible way it to parse the ContentsXML/inventory.xml file. The only drawback I can think of is that a user may change the directories from default during installation resulting in the program unable to find the file. Some feedback will be appreciated.
    Thanks

The program will display a list of all "oracle home" names within a combo box and some input fields for authentication e.g. username and password to log in. Until they login a user will not have access to the database therefore no interaction between the user and database will take place. I am looking for an OS Level solution. The Registry option looks feasible but its not perfect as it depends on the version name to get this info, which could be an issue since not all versions store the data in same place or under the same key.Knowing ORACLE_HOME has nothing to do with connecting to a database. Why not just ask for their credentials and try to connect? If they have a valid account, they'll be connected. If they don't have a valid account, they won't be connected? Why is the app trying to add extra layers?

  • Multiple Oracle Homes

    Hi everybody,
I have Oracle 9i installed on my Windows machine.
I installed Oracle Developer Suite, but could not login due to TNS errors.
I have a little idea of what the problem is. We need to edit TNSNAMES.ORA file so that it could resolve the service name.
Can u please help me out in configuring Developer Suite to work properly?
    Thanks.
    -- Kishore.

Not quite sure why your title is Multiple Oracle Homes. Can you connect to SQLPLUS or any other product in the suite? Is it just Designer you are having hassles with? Do you have the database on the same machine and can you connect to that? If you are successful at connecting to SQLPLUS, then take a look at the tnsnames file in the Database network /admin directories.
There was a bug at one point where the tnsnames would fail if the network connect string was between 184 and 192 characters in length. You may be running into this. In which case if your tnsnames.ora contains
    (CONNECT_DATA =(SID = <SID>), you can change this to use (CONNECT_DATA =(SERVICE_NAME= <SID>)
