  • Which Oracle client to use? with CRS2008 on Windows 2008 R2 64bit

    Hi,
    We are setting up a standalone Crystal Reports 2008 Server on Windows 2008 R2 64bit. This server will serve some reports that will pull data from an Oracle 11g DB. Several Oracle 10g/11g, (32bit or 64bit) DB client has been tried, but CRS cannot connect to the oracle DB using any of them. Which oracle client is known to be working well on this setup?
    CRS 2008 <> Windows 2008 R2 64 bit <> Xeon E5600 series machine
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Hello,
    CRS2008 v1 supports Oracle 9.2, 10g R1, 10G R2 and 11g R1.
    The client to use on those version are the same as the server meaning if you have a 11g R1 server then you can use an Oracle Net Client 11G R1. But you can use also a JDBC, ODBC, OLEDB Oracle 11G R1.
    If you have a CRS2008 v0, then Oracle 11G is not supported. Only 9.2, 10g R1 and 10G R2.
    I hope this will help you

  • Which Oracle 11g R2 Database Editions support Fusion Middleware?

    I would like to create a database instance(s) and install a development environment (which will include Oracle Forms 11g and Reports 11g as well as APEX and JDeveloper), on my laptop. The laptop has an I5-2520 processor. The set-up is for learning purposes and I do not mind purchasing a license, if it is necessary. My laptop can be installed with an appropriate OS, if one is suggested. Currently, it has Windows 7 Professional 64.
    My questions are:
    1) Can a development environment be set-up on my laptop?
    2) Which Oracle 11g R2 Database Editions (SE1, SE, EE, PE, XE) support Fusion Middleware for the development tools listed above?
    3) Does anyone know of a document detailing the steps from installation of the DB to the installation of the development tools as well as any configuration steps?
    Just need a point in the right direction. Any input would be welcome.
    Thanks!

  • Which Oracle Edition installed

    Hi,
    how can i easy determine which Oracle Database Edition ist installed (Enterprise, Standard or Standard One)?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Martin

    There is no specific command that directly shows whether an installation is an Enterprise Edition or a Standard Edition.
    However, there are multiple places that can be checked for the actually installed Oracle Edition. e.g.
    1) The SQL*Plus banner
    2) From the installation logs created while installation of the software
    Location: $ORACLE_HOME/cfgtoollogs/oui
    installActions<timestamp>.log file also shows the installed Oracle Edition in several places.
    The 'Summary Page' shows what type of installation have been selected,
    i.e. Standard for SE, Enterprise or Custom for EE
    3) invoke the OUI GUI and check the installed products (should show the type of installation)

  • Which oracle client do I Need?

    I need to connect to vision instance on a remote server using my machine. I came to know that I need to have oracle client installed on my machine.
    Can someone clarify which oracle client do I need? I am running on windows- XP on NT Server. Version of Vision instance is 11.5.10.2.
    I appreciate for your help. URL Link should be great.
    This is what I download and unzip to C:\Oracle\instantclient_10_2.
    instantclient-basic-win32-10.2.0.3-20061115.zip
    Is it the correct one?
    Thanks.

    Your setting
    -Doracle.net.tns_admin=/usr/local/oracle/oas03/network/admin
    is ok if this directory contains the correct tnsnames.ora file.
    I have done some poking around, and I suspect that you use an old JDBC driver.
    I have written a sample Java program that tests a connection with java.sql.DataSource using JDBC thin and tnsnames.ora, and it works fine with Oracle 10.2.0.3 but fails with Oracle 10.1.0.5 with exactly the error message you get.
    The property oracle.net.tns_admin exists only since Oracle 10g R2 (see Metalink note 333686.1).
    With 10.2.0.3 I was not able to reproduce your error message, when I set a wrong oracle.net.tns_admin I get "Io exception: could not resolve the connect identifier", and when I omit the property altogether, I get "Io exception: Unknown host specified".
    Please double check if Vision uses the JDBC driver you think it does!
    Yours,
    Laurenz Albe
    PS: maybe the test program is useful for somebody. I will post it:
    * Test a DataSource connection with tnsnames.ora
    * Usage:
    * java -classpath .:/oracle/dir/ojdbc14.jar -Doracle.net.tns_admin=/tnsnames/dir tnsname user password
    public class DataSourceTest {
    public static void main(String[] args) throws java.sql.SQLException {
    if (3 != args.length) {
    System.err.println("Usage: java DataSourceTest <TNS-Name> <user> <password>");
    System.exit(1);
    // enable the following for trace output
    // need to use ojdbc14_g.jar for this
    /* java.util.logging.Logger logger = java.util.logging.Logger.getLogger("oracle.jdbc.driver");
    logger.setLevel(java.util.logging.Level.FINEST);
    java.util.logging.Handler handler = new java.util.logging.ConsoleHandler();
    handler.setLevel(java.util.logging.Level.FINEST);
    logger.addHandler(handler);
    oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleLog.setTrace(true); */
    oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource ods = new oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource();
    ods.setURL("jdbc:oracle:thin:@" + args[0]);
    java.sql.Connection conn = ods.getConnection(args[1], args[2]);
    java.sql.ResultSet rs = conn.createStatement().executeQuery("SELECT user FROM DUAL");
    rs.next();
    System.out.println("Successfully connected as user " + rs.getString(1));
    conn.close();

  • Which Oracle Certification Should I Start With

    Hi,
    I'm looking for some advice on which Oracle certification I should start with. Let me first tell you about me and my business goals. I an new to the SQL world but have a firm grasp of the RDBMS. I have also worked as a Business Analyst for a company that is doing an Oracle upgrade including the EBS. I have had to do some very basic queries. My business goal is to improve my Oracle database skills.
    I would like to add Business (Data) Analyst to my job description some day. I would like to be both a Business Analyst and a Business Data Analyst. I have been asked to work as a jr. DBA in the past, and would like to continue to pursue those options. Currently, my work seems to evolve around Oracle as opposed to the other businesses out there.
    Given this information, which certification would you recommend I start with. Please let me know if you require additional information. This is my long term business goal so I will take as much time as needed to get it done. I was thinking I should start with *1Z0-051 SQL Fundamentals I* (11g). Any thoughts?
    Thank you in advance!

    If you get to Business Analyst than you can go wiht ebs certification

    But dont forget those subjects are different from eachother and need different skills to become senior on those subjects

  • Which Oracle version required for MDM 5.5 SP05

    Hi guys,

    I am having Oracle 10g will that work efficently or let me know if any other version is needed or any other patch is needed with this version.
    Please do suggest...............

    hi Tejas,
    have a look at "oracle DBMS" section
    of this doc:
    https://websmp209.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700000271882007E
    it mentiones that there are some problems with 9.2
    but 10g should be ok (from this doc)
    <b>for recommended parameters on oracle 10g have a look at

  • I need a sql statment that return the platform on which oracle is installed

    hi all
    in Oracle 10g there is a column in v$database names platform_name that contain the platform name on which oracle is installed.
    do you know how can I check it in oracle 9i/9i ?

    And just to note:
    Sandeep's solution only works if your user has access to the V$DATABASE view which most standard users won't.
    Kamal's solution will work with most users providing they haven't had permission taken away from them in regards the dbms_utility package.

  • Which Oracle Version to D/L?

    I am so frustrated.
    I don't know which oracle version to download.
    I have oracle enterprise 9i, but it doesn't have formsbuilder, jdeveloper, query builder etc...
    a frienf of mine recently d/l oracle9i, I don't know which ver, but he said it came with
    all of the above.
    My problem is this, I could go and download all of the above seperately..but do you how much
    Gigs, that's gigabytes of HDD space this will take up?
    Right now oracle is consuming a whopping 2 gigs+ of HDD space.
    If I download the collaboration suite, it's another Gig for d/l and who knows how big after decompression.
    I feel strongly about now wasting another full 2 gigs of space...
    my aquantence, rather, not really a friend, his oracle installation is only taking up 1.8+ gigs of space.
    Why the drastic Difference?
    I am wondering if anyone here knows of a decent d/l that contains all of the oracle software:
    SQl*Plus, Form Builder, Query Builder, Jdeveloper etc... in one single package?
    thank you for your time.

    This is not a FAQ. Please do not use the FAQ type unless you are posting the answer to a commonly asked question.
    Forms, Reports, etc comes in the Oracle 9i Developer Suite. This is available for download from OTN. Follow Downloads > Developer Suite. They are separate downloads because they are aimed at different communities. Many people who want the database - DBAs, PL/SQL app programmers - have no interest in Forms, etc. Conversely many pople who want the development tools don't want to install a database on their desktop.
    I don't know how big the 9iDS zip is, but the total installation eats up about 1.9 gigabytes. This is a corollary of Parkinson's Law: software expands to fill the hard disk storage available.
    Cheers, APC

  • Which Oracle products should we use?

    We are looking to build, from the ground up, a site that is roughly a combination of www.kudzu.com and www.accessatlanta.com. Which Oracle products would help us best develop, test, and implement a similar solution.
    The primary confusion for me is whether the Portal product would be a good fit, or whether some other product(s) would be better.
    Many thanks in advance for any and all input.

    First, thank you VERY much for your reply. This post has received lots of views but no comments until yours. I appreciate your taking the time to offer a bit of advice and assistance.
    If I understand correctly, you're suggesting developing the whole thing using J2EE rather than a product like Oracle Portal. I assume we would still be able to deploy using components of Oracle Application Server. Is this correct?
    Ultimately, this portal website will be very database centric. All of the ads, listings, content, etc., would have to be stored and managed using a database. Would using J2EE be the most effective way to accomplish that?
    I'm sorry if I seem a bit of a newbie. I know enough that I want to use Oracle technology, but not enough to know which products. Essentially, I'm the guy with the idea and I need some assistance figuring out the products so I know which product expertise to look for when hiring the right technical staff.
    If you have any additional thoughts, please share. In the meantime, thanks again for your response.

  • Which oracle product will i need?

    i have a website, but it's not yet fully complete. it will be similar to craigslist.org and will allow users to post items for sale, but i need to know how i can:
    - manage the posts from spammers
    - have some kind of system that automatically deletes them after a few months
    - send a confirmation to a person's email when they post something on the site
    would using php solve these problems? which oracle problem is tailored to these needs. let me know! and thanks so much for taking time to read this thread.

    Well this question is wide open and there is not a product to perform this task automatically. You could use php if you feel comfortable programming with it. The kind of products you require depend on the amount of budget you are willing to spend to set it up. But don't expect any product to implement a magical solution for this problem.
