Which parts need replacing?

Hello, am on a G4 with 10.4. I can only boot from an external dvd now but once I get tiger install disk going and go to disk utilities or to install it can't find the imac hard drive anymore.
If I go to system profiler most of the stuff looks okay except ATA which just shows a "~:" sign , for Disk Burning it says "no device found" and also says "no device found" for Parallel SCSI and Serial ATA - whether these should be there or not is a mystery to me, but the hard drive doesn't show up anywhere.
I suspect the hard drive has gone kaput but could it be anything else?
any advice short of "chuck it out of the window" which is what i feel like doing gratefully received, thanks

Anne,
I can understand your confusion. The basic problem is likely faulty capacitors on your logic board which is part of the Midplane. Power supply could also be a problem. When we bought our iMac's the midplane and power supply were user installable parts. This no longer applies. There are very few user installable parts now, see: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86812
The midplane has many parts and now instead of replacing the whole thing only the faulty parts are being replaced. Sometimes running diagnostics are better done in a repair facility. Various tests were done on mine over a 4 day period.
Speak with Apple Customer Relations they may be able to help you with this or speed up the process. I was able to take mine to the Apple Authorized Service Provider of my choice.

  • 6th Gen Nano- which part needs replaced?

My wife's 8GB Nano went through the wash. Currently, if plugged into the computer, it is recognized in iTunes and I can interact with it appropriately. Several times, without any consistency, the screen will work and the iPod functions correctly. This lasts ~30 min, at the longest, then the screen again becomes unresponsive. The battery can charges to full based on the indicator in iTunes, and does hold a charge (possibly sub-optimally) based on the level during the times when the screen works. My goal is to fix it using aftermarket parts. My question is, given the information above, should I start out with a new screen, assuming the connection to the main board is faulty? Should I replace the board itself, despite it functioning well in iTunes when the screen is off?

I've had good luck drying out all different iDevices with the exception of the 6th Generation Nano, I put in in a baggie with silica gel, let it dry for 7 days in a warm, dry spot (skip putting it in the sun) and I was not able to revive it.
My recommendation would be to do an out-of-warranty replacement with Apple. The Nano is small and difficult to work on and your parts will probably come to a hire pice than just doing the OOW replacement.

  • HT3669 With recent upgrade to my Mac I can no longer get supply report on ink status in my printer-light is blinking and unable to tell which cartridge needs replacing?

With the recent upgrade to my computer I can no longer get Supply reports from my printer:  a red light is flashing and I don't know which ink cartridge needs replacing?

I happen to have an Epson printer as well - WorkForce 645 - that does show the supply levels.
Since I have one, I know that Apple recently updated the Epson printer software (less than two weeks ago).  Do you have the latest software?  If not, you can get it through the App Store or here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1398
Try it if you don't currently have it.  If you're not sure, you can download it - it can't hurt.

  • Imac won't boot; needs repair.  But what part to replace?

My iMac G3 tray loading 266mhz will not boot.. i press the power button, the screen makes starting noise and the i can hear the cooling fan.. but the screen is still black and the power light is orange.
    Tried a new pram battery
Tried resetting the CUDA button and waiting for all power to be drained
    Tried switching the ram
    Tried new power cable
No keyboard commands work; computer does not boot at all
Now I just need to know what part to replace
    Power supply?
    Motherboard?
    CPU board?
How can I diagnose which part is not working?

    Flyback Transformer
The dark screen and a zapping or crackling sound are classic symptoms of a blown transformer.
There is a test you can preform to see if it is the flyback transformer:
    1. Unplug the computer and remover the bottom cover of the iMac and disconnect the main video cable. That's the one held in by 2 screws.
    2. Try to startup the computer with the video cable disconnected.
    3. Listen carefully to the iMac. Does it sound like it is starting up? Do you heard the normal hard drive sounds? If so, then your flyback transformer is dead. If you don't hear the normal startup sounds and it shuts down right away, the the problem is something else. Like a bad power supply or something like that.
Special shout out & thanks to djon for the above valuable information.

  • IPhone4S! Which parts can I replace?

    I dropped my iphone4s. . .
So I want to know which parts can be replaced?
I heard camera, battery, back cover, vibration motor can be possible.
Do U know how much do they cost to exchange in us.

"I want to know which parts can be replaced"
I'd think that you'd be more interested in what parts you'd need to fix the iPhone.  There are many teardown videos for the iPhone, and most parts can be obtained over the internet through third-party vendors.

  • T60 Fan Replacement - Which part is the right one?

How do I know which fan model number to use? I have a 2613-CTO but on the parts info listing, 2613-CTO matches with 4 different model numbers:
    41V9931 (integrated)
    41W6406 (integrated)
    41V9932 (discrete)
    41W6407 (discrete)
How do I know which part is the correct one for my laptop?
Any assistance would be much appreciated, thanks!!!

Any  "discrete graphics" fan will do just fine, since that's what you have in that T60.
    Hope this helps.

  • Timeline Playback Choppy - Which Part of my Hardware is the source of the problem?

    Hello,
When I preview my videos using the preview frame in Premeire Pro CS5.5, I am experiencing choppy video playback. The preview starts out playing smoothly for approximately 3 seconds and then begins to go into choppy frames. Also, if it is relevant, I can play the videos perfectly fine on my computer without choppiness using any other player (i.e Windows Media Player).
The source video was taken on a GoPro Hero 3 camera and its properties are listed below:
    Type: Movie
    Video: 59.94 fps, 1920 x 1080 (1.0)
    Audio: 48000 Hz - 32-bit Float - Stereo
In order to make sure that I was not messing up the sequence settings, I begin all of my video projects by right clicking on the source video and selecting "New Sequence from Clip
So: Onto my question: I REALLY need this problem fixed and I don't know how to do so. Could someone please tell me if this is a software or hardware issue, and if it is a hardware issue, which part do I need to replace in order to resolve? Thank you. • Have a message on startup," low internal battery". Need replacement and instructions on replacing

HP Pavilion dv7-1127d, Vista Home Premium 64 bit edition.  Message on start up "low battery, internal".  Need replacement part identifcation and replacement instructions.

Sounds like your iCloud backup isn't happening.
Check Settings / icloud / storage & backup.  See if you have enough available storage.  If you don't, you will need to purchase additional storage (First 5GB is free), or alter your backup settings to free up space.  Camera Roll is the biggest offender.

  • Which part number for CSC-SSM with Plus license?

    Dear All,
Which part number for CSC-SSM with Plus License? i saw the part number for standard license.
    could you let me know?
    Best regards,

    Hi,
The part number is the following:
    ASA-CSCX-YP-ZY
where X is your CSC model, Y is the number of seats of the license and Z is the number of years.
For instance, if you need a 2 year plus license for a CSC10 with 250 seats, the part number would be ASA-CSC10-250P-2Y
    Regards,

  • Model: NB103UA  HP Pavilion dv5-1250us NB PC US / Part needed: zero insertion force (ZIF) connector

Having trouble locating part needed for HP Pavilion dv5  :
Zero insertion force (ZIF) connector clip which holds the keyboard ribbon cable in the slot located on motherboard. It holds pressure down on the ribbon allowing the keyboard to function. I cannot find this part anywhere and most used computers already have them removed.
Anyone out there know where I can obtain one or more of these clips?
    Thanks
    Dave Rush

HP does not sell this part separate from the motherboard, not sure where you can get one, maybe from a donar notebook someone is scrapping out. Inquire at some local notebook repair shops in your area.

  • IPad Mini Retina Screen needs replacing

I recently dropped and damaged the screen of my iPad Mini Retina and it does need replacing. The iPad is out of warranty.
Can anyone tell me how much Apple will cost to replace the Mini Retina Screen (I live in the UK) Perhaps I'm not reaching the right websites but I've come across poster saying that it can cost £200 plus to have Apple fix a screen, is this correct?  Third Party firms appear to be doing the same job for much less, but I do appreciate that by going that route Apple will wash their hands of any future faults.
On their support website Apple have this to say. 'What does it cost? Repair and replacement costs depend on your iPad model and your AppleCare product coverage. Accidental damage isn’t covered under the Apple One Year Limited Warranty. '
I live in a small town quite a bit away from an official Apple outlet can anyone advise me if Apple licence thrid parties to do repairs, there is a wel established iPhone shop in my town and they do repairs but would these be 'official' repairs?
I'm sure some members have had cracked screens over the years, what did you do? Let Apple do the fix or go independant?
As always many thanks for your advice
    Kevin

This is the US page about Apple's repair policy for iPad screens: https://www.apple.com/support/ipad/repair/screen-damage/
If you choose to have anyone other than Apple work on the iPad, any and all support for the iPad by Apple won't be available to you anymore.
For what it's worth, I had an independent company (really just one guy running a shop) repair my iPad's cracked screen. The screen was damaged a few months after I'd purchased the iPad, and I paid around $100 for the work.
It's just about 3 years old now and the only issue I had was that the front camera didn't work after the screen was replaced. I brought the iPad back and he double-checked his work and got the camera functioning again. I haven't had any other issues.
If you're willing to take the risk of it being damaged and are OK with paying for a replacement device outright if something goes wrong after the repair, you may as well go with the third-party.
If you'd like the extra insurance (if you will) of Apple's support being available to you, then pay the ~$200 for them to do the work.

  • Determining which part of geometry is invisible

    Hi,
How do I determine which part of the geometry is behind some other object and hence invislble to the user. Obviously the renderer knows this, and you can set different face culling options, but I can't find any way to check if a face is not rendered/invisible in the API.
I'm trying to get any point in GeometryArray and apply a virtual world to image plate transform to it, however I don't want to map the points that are not going to be visible to the user. I'm doing a selection type thing for vertices.
    Thanks.

I'm pretty sure picking can't solve my problem. I've looked at PickTool from the utils and at picking in general. Basically I want to be able to define a 2D shape (a rectangle) and select all points within it. The problem with picking is that you need a volume for intersections (or a ray). And all the volumes are cylinders and cones, no rectangles. Well that's not a big problem, but what is a problem is determining the depth of this cylinder ray (or otherwise). Infinite depth would give return all geometries that intersect even the ones that are behind and not visible.

  • In Icloud I can't see my "numbers" icon which i need to select "tick" to transfer data to my other devices via icloud. any ideas why it's not showing up?

In Icloud on my imac I can't see my "numbers" icon which i need to select "tick" to transfer data to my other devices via icloud. any ideas why it's not showing up?

You have to do it app wise, which means that the icon won't show up in settings, but you will be able to move files from your local drive to iCloud via the Numbers app (move... > choose the iCloud option).
It requires that you set up the same iCloud account on all your devices and that you have the latest version of Numbers on all your devices as well.
