If you want Nokia touchscreen, as things stand at the moment , you are looking at the wrong two phones !! Both the X6 and N97 mini are better alternatives, and I would advise a little Google research to get independent  reviews as you will probably get 'slightly' prejudice advice here due to the nature of the forum

  • 5800 Xpress Music - Supporting software install fa...

    Hello,
I'm using Windows XP SP3 and the latest version of PC Suite downloaded on Nokia website. My phone is a 5800 Xpress Music and I did upload the firmware yesterday.
I'm running into trouble to connect my phone to the PC and transfer data (any kind). I made a clean install of the latest version of PC Suite, then connected my phone to one of the USB ports of my PC and selected "PC Suite" on the phone when asked for connectivity type. Windows recognized the device and installed drivers successfully. When I started PC Suite, it recognized the phone too, but it said that it needed to install some "connectivity supporting software" or something like that. There was also a message saying that I should accept every request appearing on the phone. However, after a few seconds, the installation window said "Failed to install supporting software" without any further explanation. There was absolutely nothing appearing on the screen of the phone. I've tried to install the supporting software again by right-clicking on the phone icon, selecting options and chosing the appropriate action, but the installation keeps failing.
Therefore, I cannot sync any data between my PC and the phone. Also, if I start Nokia Music and choose  "multimedia transfer" connectivity mode, the phone appears in the interface, but when I try to drag and drop any song on the phone icon, the transfer immediately fails.
Please tell me what I should do next (I already uninstalled and re-installed the whole Nokia PC software suite twice, which is quite boring and time consuming)
    Thank you for your help.

Hi there. Unexpectedly things started working better (but not yet perfect).
I HAD been trying updating the drivers related to the phone yesterday, to no effect. But after giving up and disconnecting the phone I saw a disabled/broken device driver in the device manager tree (under portable devices) and deleted it. Then today I attached the phone by bluetooth and saw NOS start up and say that it HAD installed the supporting software!
In the System event queue there are a few messages about drivers being installed:

Photos, music and messaging seems to have synchronized nicely. Contacts have synchronized with Outlook, but the Calendar is failing to synchronize. After a Sync All I'm getting the message:
"Sync cancelled//Completed syncing the following content types: Contacts and Photos and Messaging.//Failed to sync the following content types: Calendar and Notes.//Reconnect the USB cable to your device or connect vis Bluetooth. Then try syncing again."
I get a similar message syncing calendar alone, with the error code 80043bd4 attached.
Same results if I'm using USB or Bluetooth.
Got reckless and upgraded to Ovi Maps 3.0, which proceeded cleanly.
So partly solved, but calendar (important for me) still not syncing.
    cheers...

  • 5800 Xpress Music Time of Call Problem

    Hello,
My previus phone was Nokia 5610 Xpress Music, I had an option "Call log>Options>Time of Call".
Where do i have this option in my current phone, (5800 Xpress Music)?
(I do see the call time durring and right after the call.)
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It shows also the duration of the last call.
Oh I get it. You want for each particular call.
When you go to Menu>Log, you see three icons (recent calls, call duration, packet data). If you notice at the top of the screen, just under the time, and the "Log", there are two tabs. Tap the tab on the right, it will take you to the "Detailed" Log. You can see here a list of all the SMS and calls you have made. Each Item is labeled if its a call, sms, or gprs, and if its outgoing or in going.
Tapping on a call entry will show you call direction (in/out), type (video/voice), DURATION, and number call/calling.

  • I have nokia 5130 xpress music.Why I can't install firefox in my phone.

I have nokia 5130 xpress music. Why I can't install firefox in my phone.

    Hi 08ik,
Unfortunately, the Nokia 5130 is a feature phone (a.k.a, a "dumb" phone). Firefox will currently only run on smart phone devices that operated by Android.
Firefox is compatible with Android 2.1 and above devices with hardware requirements recommending at least 512 MB of RAM.
You can see a list of all supported devices here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/mobile/platforms/

True, but when you rotate the N95 you then have the keyboard at the side which is - at best - a complete pain. Also, having a QWERTY keyboard is a distinct advantage if you're going to be doing any typing - which I certainly tend to do when on t'interweb, eg: entering URLs, yakking on here etc.
If, as the original post stated, web surfing is your primary concern, one of these E-series definitely beats any N-series hands down.
Of course, now it turns out that a camera is also important, I'd agree with the suggestions above of the N96 closely followed by either the N95 8GB or the N82 (depending on your slider / candy bar preferences).

  • How to format phone memory of xpress music 5130?

My 5130 xpress music always shows no enough memory space and is not updating library. i have reset the phone and there is no games or applications in it and absolutely not a thing in phone memory that can be deleted. now all the files in it are system files. what shoud i do?please help me..

S40 phones can't be reset like Symbian ones. Visit nearest Nokia Care Point and have your firmware updated. This will reset your phone software as if it were new. Make sure you have a backup of the data.
I am not different, I just work differently. :-)

Which Mac is best for music purposes?  I want to mix music recorded from MIDI and live sound, and also want to use Sibelius to play music in.  I'm looking at MacBook Pros; any tips?  13" or 15"?

I would think a 15" with the i7 CPU. You can get a 13" with the i7 CPU but the 15" has a dedicated graphic chip along with the intergrated one.
You will also need to upgrade the hard drive to a faster 7200RPM model instead of the standard 5400RPM model that comes with all MBPs. The Sibelius website recommends the 7200RPM or a SSD. You will also be better off installing 8GBs of RAM.
Both of those upgrades can be made after you buy a MBP for much less then Apple charges for the same upgrades and you get to keep the original RAM and hard drive.

  • Xpress Music Series & FLAC Support?

I would like to know if Nokia has considered making the Xpress Music Series support FLAC?
I personally own a 5310 and would love to see FLAC support for these phones as well as the other Xpress Music Series.
What are the possibilites here with this?
    THANKS

    @jjegan and Nokia
    1) FLAC is not an obscure format except on phones, because it is FREE and not licensed
    2) Licensed codecs increase the resale cost of phones as OEMs like Nokia have to cover licensing costs
    3) Perceptual codecs like AAC+ are not perfect. They are ideal for filesize and for the majority of the populous who do not own high-end hifi systems to know what quality of sound is achievable with the right components and DAC chips
    4) FLAC is very lightweight processing-wise and easy to implement (small code footprint). It is a mathematically optimized lossless compression of WAV audio and as such, the ideal format that home users who don't trade on quality wish to archive their CDs in. MP3 is lossy and people with suitable systems can hear those losses. Those asking for FLAC on a phone will probably not be using the standard supplied headphones, but high-end after-market ones such as Etymotic ER-4P, which offer studio quality sound.
The only drawback to FLAC is the larger file size. But those seriously in to music are limited by the inbuilt memory or flash-card memory sizes provided with phones at initial point of sale, such that they opt to purchase 32Gb or larger memory cards to install in such phones and thus the storage footprint of FLAC files becomes a non-issue - these people prefer quality over convenience and business-driven culture that aims to tailor a corporate device and tell the consumer market it wants it, rather than listen to the market and provide what is being requested. In this case, there is a huge base asking for FLAC that is persistently ignored. In high-end audio, companies such as Linn, Naim and professional studio companies like Bryston are supplying FLAC compatibility with their DACs (digital to anlaog convertors) because the demand exists for the discerning audio customer. These persons are also the market for FLAC on phones. FLAC is here to stay and it is high-end and it is free. Companies just need to wake up and smell the coffee of demand that exists for it. Demand does exist and it isn't going away and Nokia also have to wake up to this fact.
Perceptual codecs like AAC+ fool the majority of users in to being unable to hear a difference. However, there is a growing body of research to suggest artefacts from such codecs which are hidden in louder music passages (an effect known as "perceptual masking"), may in fact be heard by many people who find the sound 'grating' and annoying. These people also are likely to demand FLAC.
Trying to pass of AAC+ to people demanding FLAC is like trying to pass off a quick-fry steak and telling people it tastes just like fillet steak. It doesn't, fillet is the best steak (IMO). And similarly, FLAC is the best, cheapest and easiest to implement format for lossless encoding of WAV files and Nokia cannot be bothered because the majority of non-discerning convenience-cultured quality-sacrificing others keep telling people to accept a lesser quality.
I for one, don't compromise. If it's between Sony Ericsson with a FLAC phone and Nokia without one, I will opt for the Sony - any compromise will be made by moving away from the company refusing to listen to customer demand or acknowledge a ready-and-waiting customer market.
And @jjegan, a chip already exists for the mobile market that will decode FLAC as well as MP3s, AAC and a whole myriad of other formats like Ogg Vorbis. It does NOT increase the size of the resultant phone. Go over to www.diyaudio.com and you can find many people who have modified devices to play FLAC without increasing size.

Phone Halts at Nokia Handshaking Startup Screen
It's a memory card issue, please re-format your memory card using external SD/SDHC card reader via computer and format it using Windows Explorer (My Computer -> Explore -> Memory Card Drive Letter -> Right Click and Select Format (FULL FORMAT for FAT32 & Don't do quick format.)
Re-sit the memory card in the device and start the fone, do a hard reset and reinstall all ure desired applications. My advise is for you to ScanDisk the memory card every 1 or 2 weeks to maintain the good quality. Currently the appropriate SD/SDHC for Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is Class 4 and the best is Class 6.
Diagnosting your SD/SDHC card often keeps out of error and corrects lost chains which occurs while copy, delete, move activities. You may have noticed that SDHC memory cards are available in different speed classes (2, 4 and 6). Each class designation directly reflects the minimum sustained Data Transfer Rate (DTR) of the card.
    - Class 2: minimum DTR of 2 MB per second
    - Class 4: minimum DTR of 4 MB per second
    - Class 6: minimum DTR of 6 MB per second
These cards are the perfect solution for today’s SDHC-compatible devices that run MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and other high-quality video compression used by HD and DVD video. Means the class 4 and 6 has the better quality ouput in storing your data. Most end-users are not aware of this.
As my personal advise and my personal experience, I never faced any problem using my device and the memory card.
    1. Do not install large applications, such ad DVD movies > 500MB.
    2. Run ScanDisk at least once every week.
    3. Always plug-out your SD/SDHC which is connection thru device using USB cable by stopping the card process
(Click the "Safely remove hardware" icon and stop the process)
    4. Avoid taking out the SD/SDHC card from the device unnecessarily, let it be there and don't disturb it.
    5. Install only usefull applications into the phone, dont dump things that u dont use much, if so .. use ure computer.
    Solution Method
    1. Use an external SD/SDHC reader and copy out all ure data's from the memory card.
    2. As the oldskool DOS method .. C:\Format <memorycarddriveletter> Example: C:\Format E: (press enter) .. wait for 100% .. Format the memory card using FAT32 or alternatively, goto Windows Explorer -> Right click on the F drive -> Choose Format -> Choose FAT32 and select FULL FORMAT (Dont Use Quick Format!)
    2.  Finally, move back ure old backed up data to the SD card and ure phone will work properly again, Insert into device and turn ON.
    Thanks !

  • N_gage in nokia 5800 xpress music

why nokia 5800 xpress music dont has n-gage but nokia n97 has it and they are nearly to each other and they are from the last phones

After gathering information from various sources I have finally managed to compile a decent guide to install NGage on the Nokia 5800XM using the files which have been circulating the web for the past week.
If you have any questions please PM me on the forum or reply to the topic and I will try my best to help.
    Installing NGage
    Step 1
Download the NGage Install Package which I have compiled below:
    Step 2
For this to correctly work, you will need to have your phone hacked, this should be no problem providing you have a little confidence and common sense. I can confirm that using HelloOX does work as it is the method I used and I can use NGage fine. If you're phone is already hacked with HelloOX and you're having trouble, ensure that all patches (open4all etc. are applied and set to auto using ROMPatcher.
    Step 3
Copy the file "NGage 2.0 Installer.sis" to your phone and install it. You will need to sign the file using SignSIS GUI or a similar application, you should already have a certificate if you have hacked your phone as you need to sign HelloOX to hack successfully. The install process will take quite some time and you will be prompted to press "Yes" to various warnings. I can confirm that no harm has come to my phone from this process, however, proceed at your own risk. I take no responsibility.
    Step 4
Once NGage has been installed, you will be able to find it under "Applications" on your phone. The icon will be an orange "N" and it will say "Games" underneath. To play NGage games they must be copied to "E\N-Gage" with "E\" being your memory card.
    Controlling NGage
Since NGage is designed for phones with a keypad, and the Nokia 5800 is almost completely touchscreen, the controls must be customized. I have so far come up with two solutions, they are as follows.
    Control Method #1
This is the most stable and easy to configure control scheme, I can confirm this works OK.
    Step 1.
Sign and install "Virtual Keyboard.sis" which can be found in the "Control Method #1" folder of the Install Package.
    Step 2.
Run the virtual keyboard application from your "Applications" menu and then start the NGage application. You can use the Virtual Keyboard to control your games.
    Control Method #2
This control scheme is still a work in progress but, with some fiddling and a varying degree of luck, you may be able to get it to work. Some people have confirmed it working with different settings. I feel that this setup, if working correctly, would be the best way to control NGage on a Nokia 5800. I would like to request feedback from anyone who has this method working!
    Step 1
Sign and install "Virtual Keyboard.sis" and then "Virtual Key.sis", both of which can be found in the "Control Method #2" folder of the Install Package.
    Step 2
Start up "Virtual Keyboard" so that you have it running on screen and then proceed to start up "Virtual Key".
    Step 3
In the Virtual Key application, choose "Options" then "Load Mode" and choose "Custom Mode 1".
    Step 4
Press "Options" then "Add". Highlight "Original Key" and then press the Right arrow on the Virtual Keyboard application you loaded earlier. Then highlight "Mapped Key" and hold down the "Volume -" key then press the "Volume +" key. If all has worked correctly the mapped key should change to "Vol+". Then do the same for the following
    Vol+ .................. Left
    Vol- ................... Right
    No ..................... Up
    Yes ................... Down
    Camera .............. K
Then press "Options" and save your "Custom Mode 1".
    Step 5
Set the Virtual Key application to run in the background and completely exit the Virtual Keyboard application.
    Step 6
Start up the NGage application and try to play a game. Hopefully the Up/Down volume keys will control Left/Right when holding the phone horizontally, and the other keys should do what you mapped them to above. You may have to use the volume keys in the same way you had to set them (Hold down Vol- and press Vol+ etc. So now hopefully you can play NGage. Let me know of any other control schemes you guys come up with!
The installer and key mappers are freeware, but you need to purchase the games legally at www.n-gage.com.

  • HELP ON NOKIA 5530 xpress music

hi, i am new user, and just buyed 2-3 days back a new nokia 5530 xpress music, and i am not happy with it, the main problems are
    1) earphone problems - the earphones are not good i mean i got the white color earphone still the sound in it is so bad that no bass in it, simple voice with low sound, also buyed a new earphone but same problem. i hate that
    2) music player- well the music is very low as compared to samsung corby pro. this is xpress music but has not much sound where else samsung corby pro has more and better sound than us wat the hell.
    3) battery problem- well the battery life as told music can be played upto 27 hrs, and talktime 4 hrs, and standby time, huh ( ALL FAKE). i yesterday rechraged my xpress music fully at around 4 pm, and i dint listen to any music, was just msging my friends and talk to someone for around 30 mins and then was just msging and msging and i stoped at around 12 am night, i saw my battery and its almost down i was shocked and suprise that battery only worked for around 8-9 hrs wat the hell grrrrrrrrrr. at 1 am the battery was at 1 point i mean i am so disappointed i felt like kicking the phone out my balcony. and ya when i recharge my battery it recharges in almost 20-25 mins that too full charge i mean i dont understand y is it happening like that
PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME WITH MY PROBLEMS AND SORRY FOR MY HARSH WORDS BUT I SERIOUSLY NEED HELP
    THNX

    1. I use in ear earphones and the music is great
    2. Music quality on the 5800 is better than the corby pro whose distortion levels are quite high. If we are talking of volume, that is another matter. volume is not equivalent to quality. I am not sure if you are just not using good enough earphones or what, but the presets on mine has a difference on the songs. I can hear the difference. I also listen to songs at volume level 3. So I really think its your earphone which has a problem.
    3. These battery life quotations are maximum. Same goes for almost any brand. Music lifetime quotations are impossible to reach in real life. I could tell you how to get 27hours music on your phone but I can assure you, you wont do it.

Whenever i sync my cell (5220 Xpress Music) contacts with ovi suite, i have alwys noticed that the cell phone behaves abnormally and there are few blank messages created within the cell phone after each sync is done, i really dont know how this is been happening. but each time i sync with OVI suite i have this blank msgs created in my INBOX / Sent Messages / anywhere in Messages directory.  i have to restore the factory settings everytime i sync with Ovi to get rid of this blank messages or abnoramal behaviour problem of my cell. this problem had not been there while i was using Nokia PC Suite.
