  • Palying with J2ME: Which java phone to buy

    Hi all,
OK, I'm not much of a J2ME guy. However, I tinkered with it about a year back and boy was it intersting! But soon I got bored of everything ending at the emulators as I didn't have a 'Java Phone' then.
Now that I've finally confirmed (long story that...) I need a new phone, I guess buying one where you can load your own midlets would be fun.
    Now the question:
    Which One to buy?
Feature/Economy wise the one I like best is Sony Ericcson's K700 (K700i In India where I live). Supports J2ME too. Any catch?
It took me some time to relaise where the best guys to answer this question were :-) So please try helping me out with this one / I put the purchase on hold.
    Thanks in adavance.

    Hi,
check this link to find out the latest J2ME enabled phones

My suggestion is that you go for Nokia phones coz they have their own API which helps you to play around developing interesting MIDlets.

  • Which phone

I decided to re buy a Nokia phone because my ex phone was Nokia 5140 (I had it for 7 years) and I was very happy with it.
I bought Nokia C3 and the screen is black in standby mode. This saves energy but I do not want this.
    1. The problem is that I cannot see my missed calls or incoming sms without pressing any button in order to enable the screen. Which phones can have this capability?
This is the reason that I am searching for old fashion phones and models without energy saver operation or at least a phone which allow you to activate or deactivate screen modes, such as ON-OFF power saver mode.
That’s why, now I seriously think in order to buy Nokia N52 OR E72. I have also mentioned N52 because for me N52 has simpler keyboard for typing my sms.
    2. In addition, I heart that blackberry phones have a notified flashing light which let you know for new messages and missed calls. This function is very important for me and essential!
What do you suggest? Could any Older OR Newer(Android or not) smart phones like Samsung (i.e. samsung Galaxy Apollo GT-i5800) OR HTC (i.e. HTC Wildfire) OR Any Other Phone or brand which can do the above?
Could my above points (1 and 2) be achieved with Nokia E52 OR E72 phones?
Also, In my country, NOKIA C7 is very recommended! Do you know if C7 has a notification light for missed calls and new sms or emails? Also do yoy know if C7 you can choose what it shows: a text, the time or nothing and IF YES, when it shows the time without backlight this is readable (in order to see your missing calls or missing sms or your new emails?
ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS ABOUT SONY ERICSSON SMART PHONES?
P.S. I liked the new E6 BUT STILL, E6 DOING THE ABOVE?

    Thanks

Well as your main concern seems to be receiving some sort of notification of a missed call or received sms, I can confirm that all current Sony Ericsson Android handsets do have a notification light that blinks continuously in these circumstances. However there is no option to have the screen on all the time which to be honest is a good thing as to have this on all the time would severely impact your battery life.

i have two iphone one is iphone 5 and othere is iphone 4 . can i use same id for both ? And do i have to purchase the application again for iphone 4 which i have buyed for iphone 5.??

You can use the same Apple ID for both phones, you would then be able to use the purchased Apps/Content on both phones without having to pay again.

How do i update my iOS 6.0.1 to iOS 7.1? As I've never updated my phone since buying from a friend and my phone won't allow me to update to iOS 8??

An iPhone 4S can only be updated directly to iOS 8.1.2. You need to resolve the issue which prevents you from updating to it instead of attempting to install an intermediate version.

is Nokia 2730 classic a good phone to buy and does it have and defect or bluetooth problems
    phones i have 2730c - C1
KUDOS ME IF YOU FIND MY ANSWERS HELP FULL

The 2730 doesn't seem as 'advanced' as the X6, which I believe you were asking about the other day.  If you want to store music or lots of phots on your phone, the X6 wins hands down, having 32GB of storage, where the 2730 can only takre a 2GB card.  You can compare the specifications for the phone on your local Nokia website, if you haven't already done that.
Afraid I don't really know first hand about any problems with the 2730 Classic, though there are a few posts on this board which refer to such problems.  But, as others here so often caution, people come to this board because they have problems, and many of those problems are as a result of user mistakes, so any comments here need to be put in to perspective.  If the specs of the phone look like the sort of thing you want, it would be worth further research on other sites.

  • Which phone is better lumia 520, 620, 720 ?

which phone is better lumia 520, 620, 720. Moreover when 520 and 720 will launched in India and when was 620 was launched & available in india.
    Solved!

Got this review of Lumia 720 at flipkart.com..an online shopping website in India..how much of this is true??
i intend to buy a 720 but this...
"I hate neither Windows 8 nor Nokia. But I really do hate their combination - Nokia Lumia 720. I own this phone for more than a month and now I really want to get rid of this. I want to dicuss only the cons of this phone, as all the pros (if there is any) will be ignored with the intensity of the cons.
    1. No dedicated folder structure. Nothing like a "Gallery" or "My Files". So there is no question of copying files from one folder to another because there is no folder at all.
    2. Its true than you can use a external memory card. But the only action you can perform on the files in your memory card is delete. No copy , paste or even "Rename". If you have to do any of these you have to connect the phone to a Computer.
    3. Yes, Bluetooth is there. But you cannot rename your bluetooth. Ok fine. What is there in a name! But what happens to the files you recieve via bluetooth. If you are lucky, you will find them in your "Saved Pictures" . But in most the cases you wont see your recieved files at all.
    4. You cant download a video file. Its true that there are you tube downloader applications. But you can view these videos only within these apllications . You cant save them to your SD card. Some may ask what is the big issue in it. But guys, these video applications use the phone's internal storage memory and eventually the phone begins to hang.
    5. The most funny thing I found in this phone is "File multiplication". Suppose you took a photograph or downlaoded a music file today. Tommorrow you can see 2 copies
of it in your phone. The next day 3, then 4 and so on. But if you delete any one of these, all will be gone Dont think that any virus has affected my phone. Bacuse form day 1 its so.
(Combining points 4 and 5 together and a previous comment. Somebody said its possible to download videos using UC browser. First thing , UC Browser for windows itself is a piece of **bleep**. It hangs every 1 minute. Second, if you download a video and export it your phone, sometimes it gets exported and sometimes not. If luckily it got exported, it begins to multiply as I said in point 5)
6, The battery. With the internet and all the background tasks OFF, and with no live tiles on the home screen, the maximum time I got with the battery is 11 hours. If i turn all features on, it drains in 5-7 hours.
    7. You cannot open the PDF or .txt files present in your SD card. Only those PDF files you download via internet can be opened. Again you cannot PDFs you download in your SD card.
    8. Applications can be saved to phone only, not in SD card.
    9. I still dont know what is happening to my internal memory and what is occupying it. Anyway its full now. And only thing I could do is to uninstall the present applications.
    10. These comments are from my experience for more than a month. Today I dont have this phone to experience not bacause I sold it, but because its dead now. For any other phone you can try removing the battery, re-inserting it and restarting. But what can you do with this internal battery?????
Again I want to tell you an awkward experience with this phone. I am a techie and has a habit of listening to music while coding. One day in office, I connected the Nokia headset and started the music. But music was playing via loudspeaker only. It was not recognizing the headset at all. I tried to stop the music. But none of the keys worked, Not the pause button, not the volume keys, not the back button. I tried to switch the phone off. But it didnt work either. I had to cover the loudspeaker with my fingertip for about 10 minutes helpless and suddenly the phone switched off. With relief I removed my fingertips and I couldnt believe what happened . Music was still being played from the Switched Off phone. Again for the next 2-3 minutes I had to cover the loudspeaker before the music stopped. I switched it ON again only after reaching home. If I had sold the phone that day itself. I wouldno have to keep a dead phone now in my hands."

  • Which phone number do I call for an OEM disk?

I had to buy a new hard drive so I need to reinstall Windows XP Media Center Edition for my Satellite A105-S4064, I know I can contact Toshiba to send me another OEM disk, but which phone number do I call?  also what do I need to have at hand when I call them?

That depends. If the OEM or recovery disc is still available for your system. You need also to check with the Microsoft website if your OS is on the Active List. They have a list of OS (Operating System) that shows if it is still Active or Obsolete which determines the availability of the disc.

  • Terrible Default Phone App on Xperia Android

Hi,as an otherwise satisfied Xperia Z2 user, I am really disappointed by the terrible (default) Phone App in Sony's Android environment. Here is what I would normally do to phone somebody:1) Click on Phone App2) Next to Phone title bar, click on people find icon3) The Contacts app opens. Again, I have to click on yet another find icon.4) I type parts of the name I am looking for.5) Unfortunately, the app searches all text in the Contacts files, not just in the name fields.Q1: Is there any way to turn this unwanted behaviour off? That is, I need to search the name fields only.
Note I have 400+ entries in just one of my three phone books on the phone (Exchange Active Sync) with approx. 3.5 different phone numbers on average per person.6) From a usually overlong list, I scroll down until I find the right entry. I click on this entry.7) I don't usually have photos in my three address books, so I see a large blue area with a white symbol of a head. This large blue area is a total waste of space, it takes up about 60% of my screen.Q2: Is there any way how I can turn OFF any display of photos, avatars, images etc. when trying to place a phone call?8) The first item on display below the name is a phone number, but only ONE! Instead the app shows email and postal addresses and all sorts of other irrelevant information below.Q3: Is there any way to Show All Phone Numbers directly on this first screen and any way to hide all other information not needed in making a phone call?
Q4: Any way to enlarge the font size just of the phone numbers.Q5: Sometimes this single phone number is the work #, sometimes the home #, the cell phone #, and sometimes even the fax #.
Is there any way how the user can influence which numbers are displayed, and in which order?9) I scroll down to reach the SEE ALL bar.10) At least I can see all phone numbers for the current person. But why does the app not suppress duplicates? As I have three phone books, the app displays many numbers twice or three times. It should be very easy for any algorithm to hide duplicate entries that are included in multiple phone books.11) The tiny texts for "Home", "Work" or "Mobile" are in grey font and so difficult to read, that I usually don't bother with them, and I most frequently try to guess from the area code which number is which. All in all, I find the PHONE APP is useless if you want to use it for making a phone call. Q6: Any suggestions how to change, re-configure or replace this software? Are there better APPS for this?I guess a simple text-only user interface without any kind of graphics would to this job much better. Thanks so much for your help in advance,BRSteffen

Thank you for the two answers so far. The last answer on Q5 (which single phone number is displayed by default) does not help, does it? I don´t want to edit each of my 400+ entries individually. I just need a setting in the app that decides which type of phone number to display by default (such as mobile/cell numbers, for instance.) Currently it is unpredictable which of many phone numbers for one entry in multiple connected address books appears as the only phone number on display. Basically, I need a phone app that is customised for starting phone calls. The current default dial/call/phone app on Xperia just is not. Any old dumb phone was easier to use for picking the right phone number in a large address book. I will try some alternative call apps, maybe they have a better user interface.

  • Which phone can I use with my car-kit?

Hi all, I've bought a 2nd-hand car which I've had for over a year, and it's now time to upgrade the phone. I currently have a Nokia 6230i, and after trawling this forum and reading the following post
    /discussions/board/message?board.id=accessories&message.id=460&view=by_date_ascending&page=1
I appear to be in a very similar situation. I too have pulled my dashboard apart, and have a list of installed components.
    MBC-15S cradle
    AXF-15S external antenna
    HFU-4 Black box
What I'd like is a list of phones that are compatable with the HFU-4. I understand that I'll probably have to replace the cradle too, but would like a cradle that works in a similar fashion - ie. it also charges the phone. If the list of compatible phones is small then I'd be willing to look at another 'black box' providing I can change it over myself (ie. just unplug the 3 connecters and plug into new black box).
    So, my questions are.
    1. What phones are compatible with the HFU-4
    2. What cradle would I need to purchase for the above phones
    3. Is the AXF-15S compatible with the above cradles?
    4. What other 'black boxes' are available, for which phones, and can I buy these (the black boxes) easily as an end-user?
Incidentally I also have a problem in that the radio does not mute when a call is recieved - it did when I first bought the car, but after having an auto-electrician look at it, it no longer does, any ideas why it's not working? What wires from the black box should go to the stereo?
One thing I forgot to add - The DC connector has 4 wires, black, red, blue, and yellow. Black and red are obviously connected, but the blue and yellow come out of the connecter and are terminated? No idea why, or if they should be connected to something, or even if it is at all relevant to this question? Sorry!
    Thanks for your help

    Thanks Danny,
Hopefully someone from Nokia will answer to tell me which phones are compatible...not many of the new ones I suspect, but if I have to change the whole kit over then I'll probably not bother upgrading the phone. I'm understandably a bit wary of auto-electricians after the last one butchered the existing system (and he was recommended by a main-dealer). For no apparent reason he cut the external antenna wire and obviously the radio mute wire too, when all I asked him to do was to remove the cradle-he even lost the bolts for that! As I'm ok with wiring I'll do the next install myself I think!
I'm disappointed that Nokia have not provided an upgrade path-I thought the whole point of the pop-port was that you could just get a new cradle to fit your new phone. Obviously not! Over to you Nokia.
