Which plist is 'Text & Language' settings stored?
Apples Developers in all their infinite wisdom have made changes to the way 'Text & Language' settings are configured in Mountain Lion, in my opinion, for the worse.
They have unified the settings pretty much in line with the way iOS4 was written.
The problem:
I want a Computer and iPhone that has everything in the English language.
But if I set the region settings to 'Malaysia', because that's where I live, Apple believes that it would be great to see the time/calendar in the Malay language.
Well....I don't, and they don't give me the choice.
My system preferences were carried over from Lion prior to upgrading to Mountain Lion, where Malaysia regional settings continued to display time/calendar in English and I want to get that back, however, now that I've selected 'Malay' > 'Malaysia' from the region settings in Mountain Lion, there's no turning back.
The only think I can think of is to recover the plist from a time-machine backup, but don't know which plist the Text & Language settings are stored in.
Can anyone point me to the correct plist?
I wish Apple hadn't made this stupid change to OS X 10.8 and iOS4++
Calendar and Time should be in the system language.
Our neighbour, Singapore (same makeup of population, Malay, Chinese, Tamil, Other) have English calendar and time when region settings are set to Singapore. Why couldn't Apple get it right for Malaysia?
So many Malaysian colleagues of mine using iPhones have their region settings to either UK or US because they don't like the way Malaysia's region settings are defined. I'm guessing users of Mountain Lion will be doing the same thing.
I love Apple's products, but this is just one little thing that is actually so annoying.
Many thanks for any help
I don't understand, maybe:
In System Preferences, Language & Text...
...under Language, you can move English to the top of the list. So then everything in system and apps is English, provided the apps have English localization.
...under Text, you can select a specific spelling, independently.
...under Region, you can select a region, but of course you only select a regional FORMAT, so naturally, if you pick Malaysia, you get Malaysian format. So, in your case you better pick a "more English style" region. See, if you were German and preferred to see German date and number formats, you'd select that no matter where you live.
E.g. I am German, live in Singapore, but speak English, and my Mac always did - and continues to do - everything I want it to: English is the main language in system and apps, as region I chose Singapore to start with (not because I live here but because I want the Singaporean date and currency view), so I get "English everything" and in the basic format I need or want, but I customized the "Times" view to get rid of AM/PM and have 24hr format instead, all in the Gregorian calendar.
Analog, you could pick the basic regional format you prefer (like U.S., UK, or Australia), then customize e.g. Numbers and Currency to match Ringgits.
No problem, and independent on wherever you really are, the time zone you're in, etc etc.
...and independent also on what keyboard layout you're using and specifying under Input Sources.
So, the key is (a) picking the right basic (regional) format for your needs, then (b) customizing it where required for where you live, e.g. currency. Done.
Yes, your colleagues are doing it right, and AFAIK it's been like this in OS X at least since 10.4...

How can i get the correct text from the url which has the mulitp-languages?
hi, all
i built a application and deployed it on sun application server 8.1. when i request a url which include some multi-languages (for example http://xxx.com/servlet?value=XXX. the 'XXX' may be simply chinese. ), i got the ??? instead of the correct text. how can i do it? in tomcat server, i can set the URIEncoding=GBK to get the correct code in server.xml. how can i do it in sun app server?
thanks.Ok, it is unclear on what is happening here.
Are you saying that when the webclient gets the data that it is not honoring the quote characters? Or the processing of the data buffer is causing issues?
This is what I see the of your example text which is trying to be parse out:
<a onmouseover="EnterContent('ToolTip','תווית על בגד: ’’תן לאישה לכבס. זה תפקידה’’','<u><span style=color:#000099;>כתב: Spook בתאריך: 08.03.15 שעה: 22:11</span></u><br>מחאת טוויטר קמה בעקבות תוויות שוביניסטיות שהדפיסה חברת אופנה באינדונזיה לפיהן תפקיד הכביסה מוטל על האישה. החברה התנצלה אך כנראה רק עשתה רק יותר נזק לע...'); Activate();">";
It appears to me that the escapes `’` does not have matching `“` anywhere within the tooltip. So it appears that the page properly places left quotes in when processing the page, but the raw html has broken text.
Hence a garbage in, garbage out situation.

Where are mouse and touchpad settings stored in plist on mac mini?
Hi,
I have a mac-mini with OS 10.8.
I want to know,in which plist(s) are mouse and trackpad preferences stored on mac-mini.
I want to auto-configure several mac-mini by just replacing the plists instead of manually configuring everytime.
Looking forward to your advice.

Regional and Language Settings for Window and BEX Style
Hi All,
When I change the Regional and Language Settings for Windows, Standards and Formats value to English (USA) the standard Style for BEX is active. For instance, input-ready cell is bordered with blue. But when I switch to Turkish this style is not active.
Additionally, I have to change Style for each Workbook one by one. How can we adopt a style to every workbook.
Regards,Lars,
This is a setting on the 'Defaults' tab in the User Profile. This can be set when a new user is set-up in SU01, or it can be changed by each user according to personal preference in SU3. I'm sure there is a system table where these settings are stored that could probably be edited for all users, if that is desired, but I don't know which table that would be off the top of my head.
Hope this helps...

HOW TO CHANGE WORD PROGRAM LANGUAGE SETTINGS?
Hello, I originally bought my computer in CA in the U.S with the hard drive 10.4.7. I came here to live with my mom for a while in mexico due to personal resons and while I was here I decided to buy the newer hard drive for my mac which is the 10.7.4 But when they installed it all the default programs they installed such as "word"Is all in spanish And I want to know how I can change the lanuage to english? Also when I press Command Option P & R it'sall in spanish and I dont quite understand it. So if you can pleae guide me how I can change the language settings to all this? Could I do this ALL at once? PLEASE HELP ME sorta desperate? Haha, Thanks.
All Apple stuff is multilingual. You just go to system preferences/language & text/language and move English to the top of the list and then restart or login logout.
Stuff made by MS is often only in one language only, so if you want a different one you have to get another copy. For problems with their apps, ask in their forums:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macword
Make sure you tell people what version of MS apps you are using, as there are lots of them and it makes a difference. -
PP 2007 - line break bug - not solvable with language settings
Hi
I have somewhat the same problem with my Powerpoint 2007 as this guy:
http://www.justanswer.com/microsoft-office/67fyp-inserting-comma-causes-line-break-even-when-plenty.html
Except it doesn't only occur with a comma. When I write in a textbox or a shape (speech bubble etc), Powerpoint sometimes forces a line break in the middle of a line (not in the middle of a word) without any reason whatsoever. It occurs
out of the blue, suddenly there is a line break in the middle of a line and I can't do anything about it. It looks like it turns on word wrap in the middle of the textbox, shape or whatever I am writing in.
Part of the problem can be solved using the language settings->japanese->allow latin text to wrap in the middle of a word. When I ran this procedure, the checkbox was unchecked, and when I checked it, the line breaks disappeared,
just as I wanted. BUT: now I am stuck with the another problem, namely that powerpoint wraps the text in the middle of the word which naturally breaks the word into two at the end of each line.
The only solution to this problem is doing the language settings->japanese-trick, as far as I can see after searching the web. And if I do that, if I uncheck the Allow latin...-box I get the same problem I had in the first place,
with the line break in the middle of the line.
I hope someone can help me with this.
Kind regards
Mikkel ClemmensenI have raised a bug on this issue and I am actively looking into it.

Since we have data in almost all the european languages and with the entries from there language specific keyboard therefore list of chars now cannot be maintained in the RSKC.
We did a lot of verification and there was no changes done and no transport related to language settings was done.
The settings maintained before was ALL_CAPITAL and it was working fine till yesterday.
We have raised an OSS message with SAP but still wanted to know if anyone is aware of the reason.

I’m wondering how I can change the default language settings on my Macbook (10.4.7), to Canadian English; it’s spelt “colour,” “Jail,” “Centre” and “Center” (no typo).
I need this done, because my essays have to be in Canadian English. So far the best I can do is British English. I have it semi adjusted in iWork, but not in my system preferences.Nobody
there were able to show me how to set the input
language to Portuguese to get the characters: á ó í ã
ã ç
That doesn't say anything good about their expertise.
To select any input language on a Mac you go to System Preferences/International/Input Menu, check the box for the keyboard you want, plus the box for "show input menu in Finder," and then go to the "flag" menu at the top right of the Finder and select the language you want, and then type. To see which key does what, you activate Keyboard Viewer just like you activate a keyboard.
You can also type the characters you need directly from the US layout. Here is a chart of the key combos:

Where are Optimizer settings stored?
I need to deploy PDF Optimizer settings throughout my organization, like I did with joboptions.
So far I have been unsuccessful in searching for a file with the name into which I saved my optimizer settings.
Where are the optimizer settings stored? I would hate to have to set these all manually for everyone.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.Hi All,
Thanks for the info. I think this is what I need, but I opened the Javascript console and pasted in the code and nothing happened.
(Programming, javascript, etc are not my area of expertise. My core competency is writing/editing.)
What else do I need to do to make the Console recognize and respond that line of code? -
OS language settings break CVI code
I'm developing software that requires support for chinese language, I've followed the instructions to change this settings for LabVIEW 8.6 (http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/91A1863834F4B1A0862575670067D15C) and TestStand 4.1 (http://forums.ni.com/t5/NI-TestStand/Operator-interface-Chinese-language-support/m-p/375100) but I haven't been able to find information on how to do this in CVI 8.5.
When I enable the support for characters in Chinese on my XP machine and I open the CVI files they are shown like this:
What do I need to do to get this working?
Thanks!

CLA - CTAHi Nick,
I created a simplified function in my driver just to show how it breaks, I'm attaching the source code and a VI I'm using to test this.
My machine settings are initially in English so I can compile the code. Within the attached project I created a function called tktds8k_SetDataStartNIExample function that runs regardless of wheter you have an instrument or not. Within this function all I'm doing in sending a command using:
sprintf(buffer,"DATATARt %d",0);
Using the _tktds8k ExampleNI.vi VI I run the function and take look at what is sent with NISpy, and this is what I see:
Then I change the language settings to Chinese and run the same VI and this is what I see:
In production test run I get errors along the lines of passing toom any arguments to a function.
Regarding the CVI editor, I was under the impression that Idea Exchange was a feature request portal and to me this is a very serious defect in the software... there no guarantee the IDE will work in a multibyte environment for which we are buying dozens of licenses as part of the NI Developer Suite. Would you agree with this?

ESS/MSS Language settings or locale
Hi ,
I Have few Queries related to language settings.
I have set the default language as en_gb (english united kingdom )of the user in user administration .
When i login to the portal the default language in en_gb.
Now if the user chnage the browser language to De- DE german, then the page is not getting translated. How ever the translation is available if i dont set the default language in User administration.
can you which setting will get the more precedence.
Thanks,
nachyHi ,
I have checked it seems the language we assign in user administration is taking the precedance.
I have assigned the language in user administration for the user
(eg:user21).But if the user(eg:user21) wants to check the portal with
the german language.the user changes in internet explorer to German. But
the portal page is always en_gb.
We wanted to have default language for all users as en_gb and if they
chnage the language in internet explorer it should be translated to the
language selected(considered translation available for the selected
language).
Kindly suggest if there is some option for this.
Thanks,'

SAPCRMHi,
When you log into CRM system you have option of specifying the language.
But for the same, you need to consult SAP to get the language code and the text repository.
Install the language repository.
Please contact your Basis consultant for the same.
