Which ports need to be open for messages and facetime to work properly?

I noticed that Messages no longer works since upgrading to Yosemite on my work network. But it did when i was in Mavericks. Did they change something in Messages in the upgrade that would cause it to no longer work? ports?
I'm behind my work firewall, which ports need to be open for messages to work properly?

Just make sure your 9001 port is open.
Hope this works..

  • What ports need to be opened for Podcasting?

    To all,
I am a little lost. We have a server which is inside our firewall. What we're trying to do is to use this server as a test bed for podcasting. Our network admin is going to set it up so that it's behind the firewall but we can still access the content from home or anywhere. Now my question. The admin has asked us what ports need to be opened for podcasting. We have no idea. Is this something we need to setup on the server we are using or is there something else.
FYI - We are using a Windows NT server...I know, I know, I need to upgrade.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

      Other OS   windows NT server

Podcasting is not streaming on content, only downloading. It is basically a blog with an attachment in the RSS feed. Only port 80 (normal web port) needs to be able to go through the firewall.

What TCP/UDP ports need to be open for Cisco VPN Client version 4.8 to work?
    Thanks,

Normally, you need the following ports and protocol :
    UDP 500
    UDP 4500
    ESP
In case, you are using IPSec over TCP you have to open, TCP port 10000 or any other port you want to use for IPSec connections (Its configurable).

  • What is the Firewall ports need to be open for TED distribution working properly

    Hi ,
May I know what ports need to be open at the firewall in order the TED
    distribution to be working properly.
I suspect it is firewall problem because the inventoried server which
is install at the same segment with the TED distributor server, I manage to
push the policy and collect inventory data , but for those inventoried
server which is install at the remote site, I fail to push the TED into the
server. At the TED distributor server, the log say that computer refused
connection. And there is a firewall in between the TED distributor server
    and the remote inventoried server.
    Thank you.

  • Messages and FaceTime not working

Messages and FaceTime on my MacBook Pro OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 are no longer working. When opened an error message saying an internal error occurred and messages/FaceTime should be quit and reopened appears. I've tried this and the same message appears. I can't open preferences for messages or FaceTime now and have tried other trouble shooting recommended. I can still use both on my iPad and iPhone with the same iCloud account.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test iMessage while in safe mode. FaceTime won't work. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Fix for imessage and facetime not working in iOS5

I HAVE THE SOLUTION - It's worth shouting about!
will work on itouch as well
Upgraded 3 devices to IOS5. iphone 4, iPad 2 and iTouch (4th Gen). iMessage activates but during sending message it get stuck at 90%, Facetime stopped working on all 3 devices! All connected through a home network  No luck with any of the suggestions on the internet as to the cause of the problems.
Took iphone and iTouch to work, connected on the open Wi-Fi there and hey presto both iMessage and Facetime started working!  What the ****?  Brought the devices home and they continued to work on my home network.  Still no luck with the iPad 2 sending to either of the other devices or connecting on Facetime.
It struck me that there appeared to be an issue with the activation process ( even though it said activation successful at home).  The most likely cause is the DNS server not passing the data through correctly.
I checked my DNS setting on my router and they were set to Open DNS (208.67.222.220), maybe using Google Public DNS would work?  But I didn’t need to mess with the router settings, the DNS on the apple device overrides the router setting. I set the Pad DNS (in Wi-Fi settings) to the Google DNS and straight away a mass of “stuck” test messages came through and I could also send iMessages.  Facetime also started working! Yippee! Success!  I reset the DNS back to its original value after I finished and it still works ok ( this is optional as Google DNS is good to use as default).
So here’s the fix.... it’s so simple!!
Settings > WiFi > find the active wifi network ( the one with the tick)
Click the blue arrow> find the DNS entry ( 4th item down), note it’s value.
In the DNS field – type in 8.8.8.8
Click the “home button” and then try iMessage and Facetime.
(it’s up to you if .want to set the DNS back to it’s old value)

Your solution works like magic! Thank you very much!

  • Why won't the messages and facetime app work?

I refuse to believe that the only fix for this is to do all the behind the scenes stuff to change out certain aspects of apps.  I would think that because messages and facetime come built into 10.8.2.  I believe that it is on apple's shoulders to fix this with an update or maybe just an updated messages and facetime app.

I had my messages and facetime in a folder inside applications, once I copied and pasted the new apps into the folder and clicked replace, they worked just fine, maybe some of you have done the same thing!

  • What ports need to be open for device enrollment?

I'm able to install the trust profile on an iPhone, but when I attempt to "Enroll" my device and I click "Install" it begins the process,
Installing Profile, Generating Key, Enrolling Certificate and gets stuck and reports a network issue.
I'm also hoping we can get our hands on some proper lion documentation. The resource page is pretty bleak right now.

Yea they should have that info on the kbase.   I have been reading up on this as well, as my clients never worked and finding out you need ports open.
I believe this is correct, if not someone correct me:
    Ports for Profile Manager - 2195, 2196, 5223, 1640, 80, 443   Apple Server block to open too:  17.0.0.0/8
TCP Port 2195 and 2196 should be "oubound" from Profile Manager Server to 17.0.0.0/8.
TCP Port 5223 "outbound" from LAN for clients to 17.0.0.0/8
TCP Port 443 and 1640 "inbound" to Profile Manager server.  I would think port 80 as well, but any login I would put a cert on and use only 443.  Not sure if 80 is really needed.

  • Do router/firewall ports need to be opened for higher bandwidth?

Currently I use iChat between myself and my mom across town with decent results. The video is blurred but extremely smooth.
We are both on broadband with different ISPs (Telus & Shaw) with our own routers. None of the ports on either router are open for iChat yet we connect fine.
If I opened up iChat ports on both routers will that allow more bandwidth to flow through the video resulting in less blur?

    Hi
No it will not give any more bandwidth, seeing you have iChat working i would leave the ports alone
Have you both set the Quicktime settings, goto sys prefs/quicktime/streaming/streaming speed set what you get from your ISP go no higher then 1.5mbps(dont use automatic)
In ichats prefs click on video and change bandwidth limit to NONE.
    Restart iChat.

  • HT204470 email verification for messages and FaceTime

Hi, I am unable to receive FaceTime videos. Incoming only problem. I can't get my email address verified. Get a message that an email will be sent to me but I never get it. Same problem with messages. I'm using a Macbook Pro. Some reserach indicates that my email is associated with another Apple ID. Could be associated with my wifes but cannot find out were if it is. Seems to be a connection with Messages and Face Time. Terry

  • Apple ID for iMessage and FaceTime not working and giving repeating popups

So I have recently found my lost iPad after about a year and when I turn it on, it's giving me never ending popups for my iMessage and FaceTime apple ID, which says is incorrect. i now have an iPhone 5c whose email I switched because my old one (aka the one my iPad is set up to) got disabled. On my phone, my iTunes/App Store and iMessage/FaceTime Apple ID is my new email but my iCloud is still the same. I decided to reset my Apple ID through my iCloud though I typed in my new email since I thought it'd change it. Now, my iMessage is messed up where I can't text my friends in other countries (though I can with my friends in the same country though it's not as an SMS), my iMessage won't activate, I'm not sure if my friend can even see the messages, and I don't know what to do.
If it helps any, I deleted my iPad from my iCloud for backup storage space. Also, I don't know if I'm posting this in the right area as I'm mainly talking about my iPhone 5c but it also has to do with my iPad mini
Also, I just tried signing into my old Apple ID in iCloud on my phone with my new password and it worked and my old one didnt

Set up Facetime with your new Apple ID: tap Settings > Facetime > Apple ID > Sign out. Later log in with your latest Apple ID.
Set up iMessage with new Apple ID: tap Settings >Messages > Send & Receive > tap the Apple ID to sign out > later, sign in with your new Apple ID.

  • How do you get i message and facetime to work?

Well i got my new ipod touch for christmas and it is a white one. I have updated it enough so there is no more updates avalable right now and when i go to enter my apple id i select sign in and then next and it starts verifying and then it takes me all the way back to the screen where i have to enter my apple id again.

    - Go to Settings>General>Time&Date and make sure it is set to Automatic
    - Go to Settings>wifi and change the DNS to Google's 8.8.8.8
