Which Power Adaptor

Hi guys,
I have an iBook G4 (late 2004) and stupidly left the power adaptor in a hotel last weekend. I am looking to get a replacement, but having trouble figuring out which to get - the 45w or 65w adaptor. The tech page below seems to suggest the 45w version, but all the resellers on eBay selling the 45w adaptor don't list the "late 2004" model as a compatible one. Anyone who could give me a helping hand would be much appreciated. I am from the UK, and bought my laptop from the UK online store (if this makes any difference).
Many thanks,
Tony
P.S. My iBook battery is getting very long in the tooth and I've been looking at the high-capacity Newertech NuPower batteries. Anyone have any experience with these?

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
If you haven't already, by all means call the hotel and see if they still have yours and will send it to you--it's worth a try.
The US Apple Store lists the 65W as a replacement. You could call your Apple Store and ask--they can confirm whether the 65W is OK for your particular iBook. Or you could spot search the on line store. But from what I remember reading on this forum, the 65W will be fine. But it's always safest to check directly with Apple. And considering how easily damaged the power adaptors are, it might be worth considering a new one.
As for the battery--no idea. I never had to buy a battery.
Good luck!

  • IPad mini w/Retina, which power adaptor?

I purchased an iPad Mini w/retina about  4 days ago. It came with a 10W power adaptor. The adaptor looks the same as the 12W power adaptor that Apple sells as an accessory, I bought one some months ago at an Apple store to use with my iPhone 5C and was told it would work fine with my iPhone and it seems to. I did not realize the two adaptors were different wattage until I happened to use the 12W with my new iPad and the iPad got/gets very, very warm, almost too warm to handle. The last time I charged I used the 10W and it was much cooler and seemed to charge faster, (that it charged faster may be my imagination). I've checked online at the Apple web site under accessories and I do not see a 10W adaptor for sale. Does anyone know what this means and will using the 12W adaptor hurt my iPad? I am in love with my iPad and don't want to hurt it.

you can always use a charger with higher wattage, but not a charger with lower than the required wattage.  You can use the 12w if you need to, but it would be best to use the 10w charger that came with it.
Why would it be best to use the 10w charger?   On the Apple Store site, it clearly says the 12w charger powers every IP made, the mini and the regular ipad, and a host of other Apple gear as well.  It's all I use with my IP and my iPad.  Much quicker charge than the 5w block (which is only good for an IP, but slower).

  • Which power adaptor cable?

Hi..I have a BT Relate 2100 home phone and the dog has chewed the power adaptor cable.  Can I purchase any telephone power adaptor cable that has a RJ11 connector on one end and a 3 pin adaptor on the other as I can't find one exactly for the BT Relate 2100?
    thanks for advice...

No you cannot use any one as the voltage will be different, suggest you check the voltage on the pack you have, if you cannot find a replacement can you not re-join the wires?

  • Which cable for USB Power Adaptor

This Nano is my first ipod and I recently purchased a USB Power Adaptor, from ipods4less, to use in the event I didn't have access to a computer to charge it.
I thought the cable that came with the Nano would work but the USB end of the cable is a little too big to plug into the power adaptor.
Would someone be able to tell me exactly what cable I should buy that will plug into this power adaptor?
    Thanks.

I'm wondering - is there such a thing as a firewire adaptor? I'm wondering if instead of a USB power adaptor, which I ordered, ipods4less sent me an adaptor that needs a firewire connector. Since the hole in the adaptor is smaller than the USB plug but it's similar then maybe a firewire is needed.
I sent ipods4less an e-mail and I'm waiting for a response to see if that's the case.

  • Sold a faulty power adaptor which set fire to the plug socket.

I recently purchased a power adaptor (not the USB cable) in order to charge my iPod. This purchase, admittedly was from Amazon, however, the seller claimed to be an authorised seller and that the product was genuine. When the item arrived, it was much lighter than the authentic power adaptor I had previously, and the USB insert was upside down. After unsuccessfully attempting to charge my iPod using the product, the product began to hiss and caught light, slightly. The seller's feedback profile was not available when I went to purchase.
I am writing this, as I am very aware that many people are fooled into the same dealings, and I hope to contribute to Apple by helping them to atleast reduce this counterfeit.

    Hello
Just one question: Was the store an authorized service provider?
I mean if the socket might have been faulty from production it should be definitively covered by warranty. I dont know what parts must be replaced but I also think that the complete mainboard must be replaced because normally the socket is soldered on the mainboard.
So go to the nearest authorized service provider that you can find on the Toshiba website and explain the situation. The technicians can check this and tell you if its covered by warranty or not.

  • Power adaptor and battery HOT!

This is the message I sent to Apple a few minutes ago. Maybe some of you can have some answers as well. Thanks!
    "Dear Apple,
First of all, I would like to kindly express my apologies for using the feedback form to send you some thoughts about my MAC. I did not know who else to address to.
I have bought my MAC in September 2009, through the Apple Store online. It has been delivered in Norway, where I am living in the present.
Unfortunately, I have never been very satisfied with it, due to two main issues.
First, I have noticed a problem with the battery and power adaptor since the very first day. They are both heating up very fast, after just some minutes, and then the mac is really, really slow (even if I have just one open application). I have tried a few times to go to a service provider in Oslo, but they said it's working fine. The first time I had a visit with a service was in the first week after I bought it. Then, when I had this screen problem, so I took advantage and I asked them to check again the battery (they had it for a week or two). They said it was fine. A few weeks ago I visited 3 different services with the same issue - no problems found.
Of course one could say that this is the proper way of working of a mac, but how can a mac work so slow when they all say it is so fast? I have asked around and none of my friends had a similar problem, since they've purchased it.
I decided to write you now due to the fact that a few days ago I had to use a friend's mac for some hours (which is older than mine, a simple MacBook; plus, he uses it much often than me). It was working perfectly! Not at all slow, no heating.
Then yesterday I had my power adaptor plugged in for half an hour - then I saw that the mac was not charging (how come?). When I touched the power adaptor, I literally burned my finger. Of course I got scared as well. I tried to change the power adaptor with another one - it did not get so heat up, but the battery of the mac was still burning, as usual. I used to keep my old PC in my lap, with the mac it was always impossible, unfortunately.
With lots of regrets I am writing this message. I have never felt that I had a 'real mac', like the other friends of mine, although I was so excited in the beginning. I sincerely hope that I am a unique user.
Now I am planning to sell it to someone (I don't think I can get even half of the price now, since it is pretty old) and get back to some usual PC. With all the regrets in the world, again, because some of the features were indeed really cool (like the trackpad, for eg).
Thank you for reading this! Good luck with your future products! And may God rest in peace Steve Jobs, I hope the business will not be affected.
    Best regards,
    Cristina Moldovan"

45W is definitely not correct for any 15" model. Here are the correct model power adapters:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75448
Yes it can hurt and potentially create a fire hazard if you use the wrong adapter. Get the correct one.
As for the display resolution the 867 Mhz TiBook was released on this release as a:
    http://support.apple.com/specs/powerbook/PowerBookG41GHz-867MHz.html
1280 x 854, 1152 by 768 supporting display. Check the inside of the machine's battery bay to verify it is an M8858LL/A. If it isn't then this might be a bit of a Frankenmac.

  • No Power Adaptor--How to Restore

I was trying to restore my old IPOD mini to factory settings. My problem is, in the second step I need to plug the Ipod into the power adaptor it originally came with, however I have lost it over the years. I really don't care if it is restored anymore, I just want to get it working again but can't because it is stuck with a display on the screen of a power adaptor (which unfortunately I do not have). Is there anything I can do to make this display go away and get it working again?

Connect the iPod to a 6-pin FireWire port on a computer, or its power adaptor, or a car adaptor, or a unit such as the iPod Hi-Fi, or try using this method to charge the iPod. If there's a retail Apple Store nearby, they will likely charge it enough for free if it's brought in as well.

  • Have a C310a that will not start. Have +32VDC from Ac power adaptor, using on a Mac.

Have a PhotoSmart Premium e-All-in-One PrinterC310a, it will not turn on. We have been using it on an iMac and a MacBook, both OS X 10.6.7. Have been thru the HP resetting of the power adaptor etc, so I checked at the printer plug and had +32VDC, which is the correct input voltage. The printer still will not start, what am I missing?

Hey zzzzip! I know its a basic question, but have you tried using a different outlet that you know works? Here is the document on troubleshooting power issues:

If you have gone through all theses steps I would contact telephone support.

  • Third party power adaptor for MacBook Pro?

I am about to lose my second power pack due to under-engineered wiring on these Apple power supplies. The wires are very small and thin, and the strain relief at the entrance to the "brick" is totally inadequate, so the wires end up breaking under daily use. I looked at the iGo website, only to find out that there is some sort of licensing issue with Apple that prevents them from selling tips for the magnetic connectors that are in vogue. Kensington apparently doesn't supply any Apple adaptors anymore.
Does anyone know of a third party company that makes a replacement power supply that will hold up under normal usage for more than a year?
    Thanks

    Hi Justin,
The very first of the square power adaptors (which came with an early white iBook) which we own developed a problem of the kind you mention. Since then we've done one simple thing with all of the many that have followed with a variety of iBooks, PBs, MBs and MBPs, and never lost another.
We simply make a loose loop of the cord around one of the "legs" of the adaptor:
We leave the loop in place both when using the computer and when winding the cord around the legs for transport.
Not what you were asking for, I know, but it has certainly stopped any problems we have had with strain on the cord
    Cheers

  • Is a power adaptor legitimate without a serial #

Purchased a USB Power Adaptor (5W for my iphone) from a seller on eBay.
Looking on the back the model number was A1385 (all my others say A1265)
and there was no serial number (all others I own have a serial number on them).
There is also no green dot sticker, which all my others have.
The seller had a spotless record and many transactions but I am concerned this
might be counterfeit. Is there a way to tell from this information?
    Thanks

There are many power adapters being sold online and in retail stores that look exactly like the standard Apple power adapter for iPhone.  Some work very well, although the iOS software will often ID the power adapter as "not supported".  Others either just don't work or in-fact could negatively impact the iPhone.  I have no idea if Apple distributes Power Adapters without SR#s and without the Green Dot.  I have had times where I had to use my Kindle USB charger for my iPhone and each time i Sync with iTunes I connect through a multipart USB device that causes my iPhone iOS to give me the :not-supported" pop-up message.  You will have to decide if the seller's customer review percentages are sufficiently high enough to trust the product you purchased.  The purpose of the Apple Pop-up message is to protect users from causing damage to their Apple products.

  • Chromebook power adaptor

I'm one of the lucky early adopters who got a suspect power adaptor with an HP11 Ch romebook.
I've been asked to return it, and onscreen the instructions ask me to choose which type it is.
Unfortunately not only is the text on the picture of the power adaptor far too small and dark for my ageing eyes to read, but so is the text on my own power adaptor and the serial number on the bottom of the computer!.  And I don't have a magnifying glass, let alone a microscope!
I think I might have found the right computer serial number (It accepted the number I typed in, but I'm not sure I read it right).
    My questions:
1: Bearing in mind I've at least selected the right country (UK), will it make much difference to me if I chose the wrong one?
2: Is there any way of writing to HP/Google directly about this problem?  I can't see an email address or web form.
3:  (A more general question Why oh why is all information on electronic equipment SO **bleep** SMALL?  Is there a reason for making it illegible to any eyes beyond teenage years and without a magnifying glass?  For reference, I am shortsighted but don't need specs to type on the Chromebook.
    Thanks.

Since you must get the information from the label on the power adapter I suggest asking for assistance from a family member or friend. Otherwise you will have to find or purchase a magnifying glass so you can read the fine print.

  • Power Adaptor Noise?

I was under my desk today searching for a lost screw to my glasses... While searching around my power adaptor, I noted a little bit of a buzz from it. It's low pitched, but audible 2-3 feet (quiet, but audible). When unplugged from my mac, the buzz disappears and becomes a BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP. Still, only audible from 2-3 feet away or closer.
Is this normal, or should I bring my adaptor in for a replacement??? It gets warm as it is (which is normal for an AC adaptor), I just want to make sure my house isn't going to be a smoldering pile of ash some day after work!

Is this normal, or should I bring my adaptor in for a replacement???
No and sure can't hurt. Let the Apple Store repair techs or an AASP repair tech listen for the sound.
Have you tried other outlets and still hear this sound?

  • Do both of Apple Store's iPod power adaptors work with the new Touch 2G?

    Hi,
Many thanks in advance for your attention.
Looking to to get an Apple USB power adaptor for the iPod Touch 2G.
In the Apple Store, two are listed, one smaller (and newer) than the other. In the newer one, the prongs are not retractable; in the larger (older) one, they are.
    1. Does anyone know if the larger (and older) power adaptor works with the iPod Touch 2G USB-only interface?
    2. I know that many power adaptors and speakers and car adaptor sets, etc. in the past had a combo Firewire/ USB power interface. That is why the new iPod Touch 2G (or iPhone 3G) does not charge up or power up with these speakers and chargers, etc. (Speakers such as the original Bose Sound Dock).
    3. Is it true that the older (larger) power adaptor works better in all kinds of power situations (different outlets, etc. in different countries); that the older (larger) power adaptor is more travel-versatile? The Apple store perhaps notes a difference, noting that the newer power adaptor works only with USA-style outlets. I see no such note with the older adaptor.
    4. Finally, does anyone know of a USB-only interface that would work with the iPod Touch 2G that is not Apple's (and perhaps not as insanely priced)?

    Many thanks for further clarifying.
I don't know 100% for sure that the Apple USB cable for the iPod Touch is different than the Apple USB cable for the iPod Touch 2G.
    But:
I have read (somewhere) that the tiny pin connectors are different. That is why an iPod Touch 1G could be charged by (for example) a Logitech mm50 Speaker set and an iPod Touch 2G cannot.
An iPod Touch 2G can still connect to the Logitech mm50 Speaker set. It will still play and you will hear music. But it is no longer charging. And I have read of iPod Touch 2Gs getting very hot in these cradles. That can't be good for the poor iPod in the long run.
So for the Apple USB power adaptors to work, (which both came out before the iPod Touch 2G), they must have some override or blocked pin if they can work with both generations of iPod Touches.

  • HELP i cant charge my zen micro! (power adaptor troubl

I own a pink creative zen micro 5gig MP3 player. when i bought it, a special edition USB.2.0 power adaptor came with it, which is exclusi've to the 5gig zen micro mp3 players. this adaptor plugs into the wall, and charges the player, meaning i can charge my player anywhere without a computer.
well, now its stopped working. the charge just does not go through to the player, and i know it is because of a problem with the adaptor and not the player because the player still works when i connect it to a computer.
this is seriously irritating beacuse for some reason the player takes a huge amount of time to charge using my computer (as i write this it has been charging for almost and hour and the little charge level indicator in the corner of the screen has not changed from "completely empty")
what could be causing this and how do i fix it's

    Starryeyefly wrote:
well, i've just figured out that for my player to charge through the computer, the zen software that comes with the player and allowes you to transfer music has to be installed. (kinda dumb for me not to realise, but it does seem rather unnessesary)
It's not needed, at least you need to update to one of the later firmwares. I suggest using the ..0 firmware, but you want to charge your battery up a bit first before trying to update.
With the ..0 firmware (and the later v2 firmwares) you can lock the charger (slide the power button over) then connect to USB and all the power is dedicated to charging the player.
but that still dosent solve the problem with the wall adaptor. no indicator shows when i plug it in, it just wont charge.
i used to leave the adaptor plugged into the wall when my player had finished charging, with the power socket left on. im starting to think that it may have screwed the adaptor.
I'm not sure what's up with your player or adapter. An adapter could fail but it's very rare. If you have a voltage meter you can check the outputs from the first and fourth pin, which should be 5V. Be careful though.
Leaving the adapter plugged in won't cause any issue to it, other than wasting a little electricity.
