Which processor is faster?

Can someone please help me decide between the Intel core 2 SU 7300 and the Intel Core 2 T6600.  Which processor is faster and better suited for casual gaming, entertainment and photo editing?

SlimJim77 - They are both Dual core processors. The SU 7300 is a ULV or a Ultra Low Voltage processor. SU 7300 spec sheet here http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=42791. T6600 spec sheet here http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=37255&processor=T6600&spec-codes=SLGF5. notice the biggest ifferences are in the clock speeds 1.3Ghz for the SU7300 and 2.2Ghz for the T6600. I myself would prefer the T6600 over the SU7300. Because in the few revews I can find of the SU7300 they are good procs for long battery life but they are a bit weak on the performance side.

  • Those who can advise which processor speed and video card ...

    Configuring MP...
Would appreciate any feedback on which processor speed... for photo editing apps., I keep open a few at a time, and some final cut express which I close any photo editing apps, and then of course in the b/g the mail, safari, etc.
Anyone can advise now if theirs is too much or not enough?
Also, will the 4870 make a big difference compared to the 120 stock card in my applications?
    Thanks so much in advance....

I received a 2.26 eight core MP Tuesday with 8GB RAM (upgrading to 16GB soon) ATI video card and dual Super Drives.
Photoshop CS3 and Lightroom 2.3 are the fastest I've ever seen run. I tested a photo with my 2.5 GHz G5 quad using a 12 MB RAW file and radial blur filter is PS. The G5 took 48 seconds, the new MP took 7.7 seconds. Radial blur in a processor intensive filter, so I thought it was a good comparison of processor speed. The sliders in LR are smooth with no hesitation.
I was told not to "waste money" on the upgraded video card but research in the Adobe forums suggest that PS CS5 will take advantage of the video cards power. I purchased it for the future upgrades. I also edit some video so the card will help with Final Cut Pro. I'm using dual 23" ACD monitors, I had to buy a DVI/mini display adapter for $30 for the second display.
    Exporting is 2-3 times faster.
I ordered it with one 640GB HD. I addded three 1TB WD Caviar Black HDs before I even turned it on. The best price on the drive was Amazon.
I was using the G5 with 250GB and 500GB HDs and using Time Machine connected to a 1TB external G Drive. I connected the G Drive to the new MP before turning it on. The MP asked "Do you want to transfer using Time Machine, I clicked yes. It took about 40 minutes to transfer all of the programs, system settings, including the Wacom Tablet. I used my iPhone to sync adn it set up email, bookmarks, podcasts, etc.
So far I'm very happy with the computer.

  • Advice needed on which processor to buy for a Mega PC Pro

    Hello all, just registered,
Could anyone recommend which processor I should buy for the MEGA PC 865 Pro I just ordered? I can see a Intel Pentium 4 630 3 Ghz Socket 775 800Mhz 2mb Retail Boxed on Ebuyer for £124 which is my price range but I'm not sure why it's good. The only criteria I have is that I will be doing video editing and I want my PC to stay quiet so I suppose there will be a trade-off somewhere. I'm confused about why there are so many processors with so little apparent difference between the.
Also is Windows XP really the best software for a Pentuim 4? I prefer Windows 2000 but I read that XP takes advantage of Hyperthreading. BUt will I really notice any difference?
    Thanks

richmitch, the thread you referred to is specifically for the Mega 865
the 865PRO is a slightly different kettle of fish
Win2K should work with no problems, not sure about the hyperthreading though, MSI just say that they only support customers with WinXP though; you can still get drivers for Win2K though
having said that, Win2K and WinXP are still very much the same. if its the graphical look of WinXP you don't like, you can always set it to the "Classic" look, and it looks and feels like Win2K anyway

  • Updated to LR 5.4, images now importing extremely slow. After importing and rendering images are still very slow to go through and develop. No issues in LR 5.3 which was very fast.

After importing and rendering images are still very slow to go through and develop. No issues in LR 5.3 which was very fast. Canon,Nikon, Leica and Fuji files all rendering slow. iMac 2.9 ghz 16gb RAM OSX 10.8.5. Catalogs and images are kept on external drives. Drives running fine. Really need a fix on this since I'm norally imported and processing at least 4,000 images per LR Catalog. Is there way to revert back to 5.3? I can't use 5.4 is its current state. Thanks.

Download LR 5.3 and install it
By the way, lots of people have this complaint about LR 5.4, and the advice I give is to use LR 5.3 unless you need one of the new camera models supported by LR 5.4

  • Which would be faster... Old Imac vs Mac Mini

Maybe a stupid question but there you go , if so I apologise in advance .
Which would be faster my aging iMac Intel Core Duo 2.16, or one of the new bread of Mac Minis .. primarily for photoshop and lightroom. Im trying to weigh up replacing the hard rive on the old imac see how long it lasts or just biting the bullet and buying a mac mini ... I don't like the new glossy screen imacs as I would in mainly b&w images and way to reflective
    many thanks simon

My guess would be that the new Mini is faster than the old iMac.

    It depends,

  • Which database is fast?

    Hi,
I want to know that which database work fast or connect with JDBC more efficiently? I have worked on MS Access to store data. but not happy with the performance. Can anybody give me info. about other database programs like mysql, sql server, oracle or sybase. I mean which of them can be more fast with JDBC?

It DEPENDS on what type of application you are developing. For a read-only type of website/application, mysql is BLAZING fast for reads. You also can't beat the price, FREE!!!
If you are looking to do a heavy transaction type of application and don't want to manage the transactions yourself and let the db do it for you, then oracle is my preference (just b/c I have grown accustomed to it despite how damn expensive it is). If price is an issue you might want to look at DB2 or even Sybase. But if it is a heavy duty application then Oracle IMHO is the way to go!

  • Which processor is best for Oracle 10G database : Intel or AMD

    Hi,
I am buying a new laptop for 34000 rs (700$) . I am configuring it for my office use. i am oracle apps developer.

Which processor will best handle Oracle 10G database? Inter Core Duo  or   AMD Turion?

I remember that we had installed oracle10g on my friends AMD desktop....and that had killed the performance like crazy. It must have something to do with the configuration of instance. I have at least two desktops running AMD and it works perfectly fine.
    >
The laptop i m buying is *250 GB HDD, 2 GB RAM and windows vista*.As Nicolas has rightly pointed out in his post, which version of Vista is this? Remember that Vista Home edition is not supported by Oracle. You might get the things to run but you cannot guarantee the stability.
The only thing i m confused bout is whther i shud go for AMD or Inter core processor.
In this case, this would be a matter of personal choice. Both processors are at par with each other (now I am not going into the details of architecture and other things).

Thanks Purvesh for your quick response..
Yes you are right, we have to prefer sql rather than plsql. But if i have 1 lakh records to be inserted then my insert into select will do insert one by one that mean context switching is more to server i.e 1 lakh.
If i use BULK COLLECT+ FORALL then in a single switch the lakh records will be inserted right?
I agree that when we have less number of records to insert we can prefer insert into select, if we have huge data then why not FORALL ?
You have just tested for 107 records, but in huge data it is different right?
    Thanks,
VinodYou've misunderstood how it works, I think. When you do the "insert into ... select", Oracle works out what rows need to be inserted and does them in one fell swoop. That's 2 context switches only, with the bulk of the work being done by the SQL engine.
When you do the BULK COLLECT + FORALL, you're telling Oracle to first identify the rows (that's two context switches straight off; one from PL/SQL to SQL and then back to PL/SQL again), load them into a collection, then loop through the collection and insert the records X rows at a time (which could be all records or whatever you set as the LIMIT on the FORALL) (again, with the context switching between PL/SQL and SQL and back again through each loop).
Which one sounds like it does the least amount of work? Not the BULK COLLECT, right?

  • Which makes Datapump faster..?

    Hi,
I'm new to the DBA field and would like to know the difference between traditional export/import and datapump
especially would like to know which makes datapump faster than noramal export/import.
I could see in the document most of the articles are saying
Datapump : is a server side porcess and we can attach and detach at any time and its copy the block level....
But still wanted to know what actually makes datapump faster than traditional export and import...
    Thanks in advance

I am not sure that where did I read it but what I read was this that the data pump uses XML to make the dump file which makes it faster compared to the traditional exp/imp which is DDL based-i.e. it would be having the ddl commands to create the objects in an import. In addition to this, the Data Pump can use the parallelism option to make the job faster whereas the traditional exp/imp is a serial process. I think , even if the first point you discard in the lack of a concrete proof , the second point is enough to believe that it would make the data pump job faster than traditional exp/imp.

  • Which is better, faster processor or more ram?

    Hello all!
I'm planning on upgrading from my 1.33Ghz g4 ibook with 512mb of ram to a new macbook, because Logic Express 7 and Final Cut Express 3.5 don't run very well on my current system. Because of money constraints, I'm limited in what features I can afford, so I'd like some advice from other mac users. In having to choose between getting an entry level macbook with 2gb of ram, or the mid-level macbook with only 1gb of ram, which would you think might handle these two applications best?

    Hi skipgo,
    welcome to macbook forum.
I would go with the faster processor, not only the processor is fixed and not upgradeable, you also got bigger hard drive and superdrive that will be crucial for backing up big files on dvd (4 gb) or dual layer dvd (8 gb) and or burn your project into dvd from your FCE using iDVD.
And memory is tend to go cheaper each day and relatively easy to upgrade it yourself compare to built to order 2 gb memory in entry model at apple store.
And remember that apple will not accept return on BTO model just in case you decided to return it within their 14 days grace period.
    Good Luck.
ps: beat by Mike with the same advise.....
