Which programs sync with iPhone?

Hello all,
I'm wondering which programs sync with iPhone, specifically my contacts and appointments/calendar?
I thought that the contacts would sync with my Address Book and the calendar with iCal, but no such luck.
Do they sync with Entourage?
If so, is there a way to have certain address books NOT sync with Entourage. I'm a school teacher and would rather not have my students' families email addresses, etc. be on my personal iPhone...

I've just signed up to iTunes Match as I have songs on my iPhone 4 which wont sync with iTunes as they are from CDs but I can't see my music in the cloud now. Anyone had the same problem and have an easy fix?

What fixed it for me:
On your computer, open iTunes > My iPhone (or whatever name you gave your iPhone) > "Music" page
Uncheck "Sync Music"
Click "Sync" button (bottom right)
Let it run and finish
Uncheck the box for every song, playlist, etc.
Click "Sync" button (bottom right) (This step may be unnecessary, but I did it and got the result I wanted.)
Let it run and finish
Check the boxes for the music you want on your iPhone
Click "Sync" button (bottom right)
Let it run and finish
See if that doesn't work for you. I tried a lot of things that did nothing, but this seems to have fixed it, and quickly.

So you have business contacts that were lost... do you not have these on a Database in some shape or form? Sounds like you need to invest in a RAID1 backup setup for your computer so you dont have this issue in the future.
As for repairing your problem, sounds like you are going to need to start from scratch at this point or if the data is still on your phone look into a program that can take the information from the phone onto iTunes.

Outlook Calendar stopped syncing with iPhone Calendar

I deleted a recurrent event on my iPhone and this action appears to have confused the sync capability between my iPhone and MS Outlook Calendar.
Outlook still tries to find the recurrent event on start-up even though it is not shown in Outlook Calendar.
More concerning is that new events and changes in Outlook Calendar are no longer syncing with iPhone Calendar. The time to complete the Calendar sync activity is noticeably longer than any of the other sync actions, which suggests that there is a problem.
I have been through the restore routine in iTunes and also attempted to replace all the Outlook Calendar data on the iPhone using the Advanced facility on the iTunes Info tab.
I appreciate that this may be an Outlook issue but are there any other things that I can try to restore the sync capability between the 2 Calendars.
All other sync functions appear to work ok - I have created and deleted Contact data from both Outlook and iPhone and this works fine.
Grateful for any help!

I'm not sure if this will work for you. It seems every time I research a problem, everyone has a different solution that doesn't work for everyone. (I just spent an hour and a half searching for a solution in various forums.) But this one just worked for me.
I went into iTunes, into the Devices page for my iPhone, then to the Info tab. I unchecked Sync Calendars with Outlook. A pop-up appeared saying, I believe (I didn't write it down) "Do you want to delete previously synced calendars on the iPhone" - or words to that effect. Since I hadn't entered anything directly into the iPhone calendar in a while, I clicked Okay. Then I clicked on Apply (lower right corner of iTunes). The iPhone synced, and all appointments disappeared from the iPhone calendar. I then rechecked Sync Calendars with Outlook, clicked Apply, and the iPhone synced once again - and all my Outlook calendar appointments appeared on the iPhone.
This was, I admit, after having deinstalled all Apple software from my PC and reinstalling it. That didn't work on its own (still couldn't sync calendars), but I don't know for sure whether it had something to do with the success of the de-sync / re-sync.
Good luck. These solutions always seem to be hit-and-miss.

Outlook 2003 notes not syncing with iphone

I cannot say for sure if this is a new problem as when I first purchased the iPhone 3GS 32GB (iOS 4) in June, running iTunes 9.2.0.61 on XP (all current updates applied), I got all notes from Outlook onto the iPhone. I updated some notes yesterday in Outlook, and noticed they weren't sync'd with the iPhone. This applies to both updated or new notes on Outlook. The same applies in reverse, in that any notes updated/created on the iPhone does not sync with Outlook.
Any sage advice on what's going on?

You are right, of course. There are so many threads on this subject, too many to count, and they go no where definitive. This is a symptom of a problem that is being experienced by iPhone users who use Windows & Outlook.
I am NOT a Windows user, and have been using various species of Linux for years, and am currently using Ubuntu on my desktop and notebook. I have been using Evolution, which is a linux version of Outlook. I now have setup a separate box to run XP and Outlook. I have tried using VMware running a virtual Windows XP on my Ubuntu box, which I have been using off and on for years with success. But, installing iTunes on the virtual Windows, and trying to sync causes the virtual Windows to hang - most unusual. Never got it figured out, hence, the Windows box.
Like I said before, iTunes is a cluge. And to it, they added the sync which ***** at best. Apple should re-think their strategy, and focused on iTunes as being a damned good multi-media application, which will sync with Mac/Windows/Linux. Then, they should have another application, something called "iSync" or "iFiles" which specializes in syncing up anything other than multi-media, such as contacts, calendars, notes/memos, tasks. This would be a nice tight piece of code, allowing to sync with Mac/Windows/Linux.
Wish I could've been more help.
PS. For whatever reason, notes are being sync'd across to the iPhone. I noticed this a "few" syncs ago. I don't know why it decided to sync notes, whereby, it didn't a week or more ago. It's at the point now, where I don't expect anything consistent when the sync happens. If it goes across, fine, if it doesn't maybe in a few days. Not the best approach if you are relying on this device for a profession/business!

Adressbook sync with iPhone contacts

I got this new iPhone 5 and restored my iPhone-4-contacts on it. Then I made the facebook-sync and now I have all the added data (pics, email-adresses, ...) in my iPhone-contacts.
These added data will not show up in my adress-book on my Mac (Mountain Lion). What did I do wrong?
Sync with iCloud is on.

I don't think that clearing the sync history is the only cure to this problem. At least it does not help for me. I believe that the problem with contact syncing is not monocausal, hence the cure with the sync history won't heal the manifold of root causes.
My situation is as follows:
What works great when syncing back and forth between the iPhone and the addressbook.app
. *Adding new* contacts or updating contacts +on the iPhone+
. *Editing or updating existing* contacts +on the iPhone+
. *Adding new* contacts +in addressbook.app+
What does not work at all:
. Choosing any existing (created before using or syncing with iPhone) contact and sync it with the iPhone
I sync only a certain group in addressbook.app, not all contacts.
The only way to cure this problem for me so far: Adding a new contact on iPhone or addressbook.app, which is a pain given that all the contact data is already present.
Interesting enough this was not a problem from the beginning. During the first couple weeks or months I could choose any of my "old" contacts and grow that group as I saw fit and everything worked flawlessly...
Very disappointing...

Sync with iPhone

In the Messages Beta on my Mac, I can see the email address that my contacts use for iMessage and I can, therefore, send a message which will sync with iMessage on my iPhone.
I am confused, however, about how I make this happen in the opposite direction: I don't seem to be able to address a message to an email address on the iPhone (only the contact's phone numbers show up). Although sending a message to the phone number goes via iMessage instead of SMS conversations initiated on the iPhone do not sync to the Messages Beta.
Am I missing something obvious here?

In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced with an iTunes library on a single computer only. You need to transfer your iTunes library from your PC to your Mac.
Or iTunes includes an option to transfer content that was purchased or acquired from the iTunes Store from an iPod or iPhone, but this is for content that was purchased or acquired from the iTunes Store only. First you need to activate your Mac with your iTunes account with iTunes - with the same iTunes account you were using with your PC.
With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
The sync process for contact info and calendar events is a bidirectional or true sync process. Before syncing contact info with the Address Book and calendar events with iCal on your Mac, enter one contact in the Address Book and one calendar event in iCal before syncing this data. Make these up if needed, which can be deleted later. When syncing this data with the Address Book and iCal on your Mac, this should provide a merge prompt, which you want to select.
Any photos transferred from your PC to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process need to be transferred from your PC to your Mac. They transfer of photos from your computer to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process is a one way transfer process only and the same applies as to iTunes content. Photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone are optimized for viewing on the iPhone as part of the iTunes sync/transfer process. If it were possible to transfer such photos in the other direction, the original resolution of these photos would be lost.

Photos which are uploaded through icloud control panel are only synced with iPhone but not with iPad. Photos taken with iPhone or iPad are synced with all devices. So, why I do not get the uploaded photos from my pc to iPad? I alredy disabled photo stream on all devices - same failure

If only one device is not getting updated data, you need to troubleshoot that device and not photostream itself.
Verify that ipad is connected to wifi, charged over 20 percent, camera app is closed and take a photo of the screen (or anything else, but then close that camera app).
Open photostream folder on that ipad and see if picture shows up. If you network is good, should not take long.
Don't forget that while your phone can use wifi and cellular (even it suppose to use wifi for photostream, cellular networks got much better since original photostream was implemented) - you ipad is probably wifi only.
If picture shows up - you ipad and photostream have no problems and you can go to other devices one by one.

Solution
Create backup of your entire mailbox before starting (THIS IS IMPORTANT)
Create offline folder (.pst file) Check windows help on how to do this for your version.
Open folders view on Outlook
Right click on Calendar in tree view and 'copy to' offline .pst folder
Go back to main calendar view and delete all entries in your calendar.
Create simple cal entry and sync test with iphone
If this works then start dragging cal entries back from the offline folder into the main calendar then sync after each step....
I moved events in this order
-Yearly recurrences (ie Birthdays)
- Monthly recurrences
- weekly recurrences
- Daily recurrences
All appointments from the beginning of this year >> to the end of time!
If all these sync then the issue is with an older cal item and you have to decide if you actually need these in you current calendar.
I chose to leave these in the offline cal and if i need access them from there.
If at any point the sync fails then you know you have a corrupt cal entry in the block you just transferred. Move the offending items back into the offline folder and try again in smaller chunks until you identify the offending items and delete them and manually recreate them in your real calendar.
Also smart to run the inbox (.pst /.ost ) repair tools for your OS/Outlook version.

You need OSX 10.7.2 or higher in order to access icloud. The mobile me account is now defunct (it closed down more than a year ago).

ITunes can't see Aperture album photos to sync with iPhone??

I had to export my Aperture library to downgrade from version 3.2 to 3.1.3 due to all the bugs in 3.2. Since that time, though there are photos in my albums that I can see, edit, etc these pics are not showing up on the Photos screen of the Sync prefs when my iPhone 4 is plugged in. The albums themselves all show up when I select to sync with Aperture but it shows "0" photos in every album despite the fact that all the albums have photos in them. I have repaired permissions on Aperture library, on the computer, upgraded to iTunes 10.5, restarted the computer. I'm guessing there was a preference file that might have linked the old Aperture library (no longer in the "Pictures" folder) to iTunes photo syncing with iPhone. New Aperture Library has same name and location as the old one but iTunes just isn't seeing these photos. Any suggestions on fixing?

I made a duplicate copy of a picture and did some editing of it. I added sepia tone, etc. When I go to Shutterfly to upload the edited picture, I can't find it. I see the original, but not the edited duplicate. I shut down the computer last night and let it update and checked it again this morning, but still can't find the edited picture. I know it is "in there" somewhere, because when I open Aperture 3, I can see the edited pic. Any thoughts? Thank you.

I tried the same but it did not worked. But, i got a solution. I accessed gmail on my laptop. Went to gmail settings. There is a option to add a device. A iPhone was already listed. I clicked Revoke to remove it. Then i clicked add new device and gave it iPhone name and a new 16-20 character password was geenrated. I used it to configure gmail on my Iphone and it worked beautifully. So glad i have been able to fix this. That password is a one time password to authenticate that device.
