Which ram vendor?

I need to upgrade the ram in my Core 2 Duo MacBook. I am
looking at the vendors OWC and Crucial. Wondering if
anyone has purchased ram from either of them and how it
worked out. OWC has the best price right now, but I want
the best ram. I'm looking at 2-1 Gig modules.
Thanks!

Compare prices. Here is a good deal on Apple-Certified memory. I've never had a problem with it.

The price doesnt matter to me - i just want to know whether they would fit or not. Im using a Late 2011 MBP.
PS: Does the manufacturer of the Memory have anything to say at this point? Which one would you decide?
    Thomas Bojsen

Both Crucial and Kingston are long standing quality makers of RAM (not merely resllers, but actual manufacuters of their own RAM)
    I would suggest going to
    www.crucial.com
    www.kingston.com
And look up your specfic Apple machine model to get the SODIMM module parts numbers directly from them.  That way you will know specifically which modules to shop for at other web stores.  Both companies offer lifetime warranties, so just be sure the module part # you are ordering is one the company itself lists as meeting or exceeding Apple's specs for RAM and you should be fine.

  • Satellite L300-22L - Which RAM for upgrade?

    Hello.
I have Satellite L300-22L notebook. Can you tell me which is the best RAM for my system in speed and capacity?

    Hi!
The Satellite L300-22L belongs to the PSLB8E series and is equipped with Intel GL40 chipset.
That means for upgrading the RAM you need modules with the specification DDR2 667MHz to a maximum of 4GB.
Theoretically you can buy modules with these specifications from every manufacture but I have good experience with Kingston modules. I use them always for upgrading my notebooks and never had problems.
    Bye

  • Which RAM to use on MacBook Pro?

I just got the baseline MacBook Pro 2012 13 inch. I want to upgrade the ram to 8gb and was wondering what type to use. Also, if I change the ram, is the computer more susceptible to failure in the future? But anyways what are the best brands? I know it has to be 1600 something. I was looking at vengeance 2x4gb and it was 77 bucks but then crucial was like 60. What's the difference?

If you have the MacBook Pro 9,2 (use System Profiler to see) then your machine is capable of having 16GB of RAM.
    Maximum Memory
16 GB (Actual) 8 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots
    2 - 204-pin PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
RAM modules come in 4GB and 8GB sticks, you have 2 slots. So 2 x 8GB  = 16GB which is what I advise you install.
Apple only installs 8GB, but if you do it yourself or have a local PC/Mac tech do it, then it can be 16GB.
I agree Crucial.com or OtherWorld Computing are the best sources of Mac RAM as they test it and make sure your not getting bad or PC RAM that can have slightly different specs, but appear to be the same.

  • Which RAM brands get along better?

    Hi everybody,
Does it make a big difference if you don't purchase the same brands of RAM as long as they are in sets of two?
    I have 4 GB (installed):
    512 MB x 2 (Micron - stock from Apple)
    + 512 MB x 2 (Micron again from 3rd party vender)
    + 1 GB x 2 (Kingston KTAs)
+ 512 MB x 2 (OWC - but I removed them since they seemed to have caused Kernel panics and shipping them back was to much trouble).
I was thinking of purchasing 4 more GB (2 GB x 2) of perhaps:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/TechWorks/A2F667E2GX2/
    http://www.datamemorysystems.com/memory-information/4GB_Kit_DDR2667_FBDIMM_Apple667-1x2.asp
Or more Kingston (2 GB x 2) to add to the 1 GB x 2 Kingston I already have
I know it can get boring for all you experts out there to answer another RAM question but it's very nerve racking for us amateurs to make sure to make the correct/best RAM purchase for our Mac's performance.
    Feedback is appreciated.
    Rio.

RAM brands are of no great consequence. Some brands don't even make the RAM they just brand it. What's important is that the RAM come with a Lifetime warranty and that you purchase it from a reputable vendor with a reasonable return policy. I've bought my RAM for 20 years from Data Mem, but MacSales.com also has a good reputation and reasonable pricing. Be sure the RAM you buy has the proper Apple-approved heat sinks.

  • Which RAM chip to buy

    Hi,
I am looking to upgrade to 5/8 gb of ram (buy one or two 4gb chips, depending on price). Looking on amazon, I find that some sets of 2x4GB are 130 dollars, and some single ones are $200+. I was wondering if anyone could give me a link to a good chip of RAM, not exactly top of the line, at a good price. Right now I have the MBP 13" latest generation. I have 1x1, and I expect to eventually get to 8, so no 2x2's please.
And can someone please post a link/briefly describe the basic components of RAM?
    Thanks,
    Ben Yorke

Ben: Do yourself a big favor, and buy RAM only from vendors who sell primarily to Mac users and explicitly guarantee that their RAM will work in your Mac model. You're perfectly safe buying hard drives from Amazon, NewEgg, ZipZoomFly, Buy.com, etc., but RAM is different. Buying no-name or cheap RAM from a vendor who doesn't mention Macs on its web site is just asking for trouble. Here are some of my favorite vendors:
    http://www.crucial.com
    http://eshop.macsales.com
    http://www.smalldog.com
    http://www.18004memory.com/
NOTE: Avoid any Kingston RAM whose part number begins with KVR. That's Kingston's cut-rate "Value RAM" line, and it has a long history of not working in Apple notebooks. Kingston's higher-priced KTR line is fine.

  • Which Ram to Buy?

Hey guys wanted your expert opinions. Out of the three rams, which one would you guys choose?
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002YUF8ZG/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=techd0d- 20&linkCode=as2&camp=217145&creative=399349&creativeASIN=B002YUF8ZG

and the kingston hyperx plug n play 8gb 1600mhz.
this is going into a i5 13" macbook. For the last one, I know the machine can't handle 1600 but i figured if i buy it now i could take advantage of it fully in a couple years when i buy a new laptop. But im curious, is there any reprecussions on running 1600 on a 1333 machine? I know the ram will downclock but is there any negative drawbacks? Will the computer get hotter? etc etc.
but anyways, out of those options which one do you recommend? corsair, crucial or kingston (if its a smart idea buying 1600 ram and assuming that it won't hurt the machine at all ((or use more power)))

If you buy RAM that differs from the specifications published by Apple for your machine, it can and quite likely will be blamed for anything that may go wrong with the machine or its behavior in the future.
Example: You start having video problems of some sort. Odds are that the fault is on the logic board or in the LCD panel or video cable, but when you get the machine back from Apple, your 8GB of self-installed 1600-speed RAM has been replaced with a stock installation of 4GB of 1333 RAM. Apple explains that you had installed the wrong RAM and it made the machine too unreliable for them to be able to test the other repairs that were performed. They've kept your RAM.
Don't install the wrong RAM for your machine, even if it ought to work.

  • RAM Vendors

I'm thinking about buying some RAM and saw that ramseeker.com lists some 512 MBs for as low as $42 (Omni Technologies) and has others for as much as $122 (Crucial). I've read that Crucial seems to be the most reputable source for RAM, but is it worth it at triple the price? Is there some horrible thing about those other vendors that I don't know? Is it likely that their RAM wouldn't work? Most of them have warranties, though, so it seems like it would be fine to buy from them. Any thoughts?

I've been shopping for memory. I thought that Apple builds for compatibility with "industry standard" RAM, but apparently sometimes their products can be picky.
I'd like to buy from Crucial, since their pricing is generally competitive and their quality/compatibility/reliability is well known. I've purchased from them before (for my iBook G3 600), where the price was competetive and the memory has always worked.
Their current pricing seems to be weird, shifting from day to day or minute to minute. The CT464095 (1GB PC2700 SODIMM ) I'd like to get seems to have different pricing that varies up to $10. I tried looking up the price today, and I got $162. Then I tried other browsers and got $152. I reset Safari, tried again and got $152. Perhaps they use some sort of strange, variable pricing scheme like Amazon.com was criticized for.
For $40, I might take the chance on some off-brand. However - for $150, I'd like to get some sort of assurance that it'll work. I could take my chances on some generic memory not specifically recommended for my application, but most retailers make it difficult to return memory. I would recommend Crucial, but recheck their prices, since they seem to change often.

  • Which RAM bank is which?

I've RAM modules in all four banks. As I lay my iMac face UP, which bank is which? a? b? c? d? (see three attached images)
    Thanks!

The bank 0 is the one with the slots at the left. This means that in the photograph the bank 0 belongs to a) and c).
The bank 1 is the one with the slots at the right, where you have the modules that came with the Mac by default.
