Which recommended sw to burn videos?

Background:  After much struggle (and HELP from the people on the forum.....THANK YOU) with Pre8 to create my video that includes music, photos, and audio, I was unable to burn a DVD from Pre8.  It crashed (system reboot) after encoding reached 96%.  After researching the forum, this seems to be a popular problem from 2 years back, I followed the steps of burning the video to my pc at NTSC DVD standard.  I can view it using Windows Movie Maker.  (I tried to view with windows media player but there is no sound.)  My questions are:
1.  which sw or app is recommended to burn to a DVD that will include all the media (music, audio, photos) together?
2.  Will I be able to add a DVD menu before burning?
3.  What aspect ratio?  I want to burn it at 16:9 so I can view on HDTV.  If I do this, will I also be able to view it on a laptop?
     - the video burned to the pc is at:
       Size:  428MB
       Frame Width: 720
       Frame Height: 480
4.  My pc has Roxio Creator 9.  Could I use this?  If so, would I copy as data disc?
Please advise.

Also, burning to a folder offers another advantage if you want to burn another DVD later on....
Let's say you used PrE to burn directly to DVD (instead of to a folder) and 2 years later you want to burn another copy (perhaps your DVD gets lost or damaged? Visiting in-law? Who knows?)
You'd have several things working against you.
Unlike programs like Word, PrE is generally not backwards compatible. If you save a project with PrE v7, you'd better plan on using PrE v7 to re-open that project. If you upgraded to PrE v9 and didn't keep PrE v7 around, you'd probably be out of luck.
Let's say you do have the correct PrE version still around and can still open your project. You also need to ensure all of the video, audio, and other assets used by your project are still around (preferably in the exact same location). If you've deleted the original source footage, you can't re-burn your DVD, even if the project itself is still around. Some of this can be made easier by the Project > Archive function.
You have to go through the lengthy encoding process all over again.
And hope it doesn't stall at 96% again
On the other hand, if you've burned to a folder, all you need to do to create a new copy is point any DVD-burning program (version doesn't matter) to the saved folder and click "Burn". No re-encoding needed. No source files needed. You don't even need Premiere.
Also, the folder takes up relatively little room (4.7GB max, often less).

It sounds like you have assigned the primary click on the trackpad to something else, perhaps a gesture.
Use your mouse, login and then open the Trackpad preference pane and see how you have the interface configured.
Oh and you can have both the Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad powered up and working at the same time. No need to keep moving batteries around.

  • I am trying to burn videos to blu-ray DVD

Hi, I am trying to burn videos to blu-ray DVD, but unfortunately Encore is no longer available.  How do I burn DVDs with the software currently available, which software do you recommend, and is there a link to show me how to use the software?  Thanks a lot!

You need Encore CS6 which is bundled with Premiere Pro CS6.
There is no Encore CC so you must install Premiere Pro CS6 in order to get Encore CS6.
Encore CS6 not installed with Creative Cloud

  • Burning video to DVDs - what discs?

I just got my powerbook and have a lot of "Lost" episodes to move... both in AVI and iTunes format. What discs do I need, and what's the most efficient way to burn it so it'll read both on my computer and on a TV?

    Welcome to the Apple forums.
There's a current discussion about burning iTunes video to a DVD, see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=286906&tstart=0
On AVI's, you can use MPEG Streamclip (http://www.alfanet.it/squared5/mpegstreamclip.html) to convert them to digital video, then use DVD Imager (http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/applescript/dvdimager.html) to create the DVD image for burning. Both programs are freeware. Or use a product like Toast.
We use TDK DVD's (have used both -R and +R) to burn DVD's that work on both computer and TV (was recently told to use -R for video, +R for data, however, have also seen recommendations of +R for video). They're available from our local Circuit City for $8 for 25, which seems to be about the going discounted rate. If you browse around the web, you'll find discussion on the quality of blank DVD's, their sources, what country they were manufactured in, etc. The TDK DVD's have consistently worked, and I can recommend them.

  • What format should I burn video files in, so I could import it to final cut

I need to burn video files on a DVD and then upload those files into the final cut pro.
What format should I use when I burn those files on the DVD?

Ideally, you should stick with DV -it's already a highly compressed format to begin with and even then it comes in at 13GB per hour. Compressing even further and then converting back to DV to use the files in FCP will have a visible impact on quality.
A dual layer DVD can hold around 8 GB. They could burn the discs using Toast 9 or 10 which can split larger files across multiple discs.
If you have lots more, perhaps it would be better to invest in an external laptop drive and put the files on that. There are models that are powered via the FireWire bus, so that would also get around the fact that different voltages are used abroad.

  • How do you burn videos taken with myIphone and stored on my computer to a DVD disc.  I purchased and tried using RealPlayer Plus 16 but got error message saying "unsopported media type"?  I alos tried using Real Players file converter with no success!

How do you burn videos taken with my Iphone 4S and stored on my computer to a DVD disc.  I purchased and tried using RealPlayer Plus 16 but got error message saying "unsopported media type"?  I also tried using Real Players file converter with no success!  Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

Probably the OP is no longer paying attention to this unless the OP is subscribed to this discussion.  While not really an iPhone question I guess using an iPhone to produce the movie which then needs taking to the next step makes this as good a starting place as any unless you happen to know enough about what to do to determine in which forum to post.  A suggestion in that direction would help.
Anyway, Apple is backing off from supporting optical media.  It also depends upon what you mean by "DVD".  A DVD is just an optical disc which can support different file formats, but many people think it means a movie disc you can put in your TV.  Producing a movie disc requires special iDVD authoring software Apple used to sell but stopped several years ago.  I don't know if the old versions work under newer systems.  There's also the free Burn application which authors DVDs but takes a bit of learning and has nowhere near the features of iDVD.
If the OP means simply burning the transferred movie files to a DVD for archiving in computer format you don't need special software for that; its built into the operating system File > New Burn folder etc.

I had a av cord that plugged into the iPhone 3gs and iPad 2 but its not compatible with the 5 connector. Right now i have to email myself the videos in small segments and open and save on the iPad 2 to burn them.  Is there an easier way to burn these from my iPhone 5 or through air play on apple tv?
    Thanks

Connect the phone by USB to the computer, import with image capture, iPhoto or whatever application you use to import movies, drop it into iTunes.

  • Burning Videos from iPhone/iTunes with Windows Movie Maker?????

How can I burn videos that I take on my 3GS iPhone and than sync to my PC/iTunes with Windows Movie Maker? When I attempt to load or drag the video file into movie maker it give me an error message due to the file type is not supported. Any suggestions or points in the right direction would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

This is because iTunes Store purchases and in a protected file format, so you won't be able to directly convert them from the protected file into something that Windows movie maker could read.
As the previous poster said, you can try burning the files to a CD, then importing the CD again. I think that ought to work.

Unfortunately, the recording & movie industry does not respect the rights of the people who make them money, and thus you can only use the paid-for content in ways they see fit. Even if I lived in a bunker where no one else could possibly see the movie I paid for, therefor I'm not 'sharing it illegally', I would still not be allowed in a blue moon to copy that movie to DVD for TV viewing. Someone will tell you to get an AppleTV. How about Apple give us one for free? Until this changes, people wanting to use their content in multiple locations will continue to download music & movies via torrents, legally or illegally.

  • Which wire for feeding in video from a Handycam?

My apologies (again) if this is a dumb question... I have an '08 MacBook Pro (where one of the knocks by reviewers was that it didn't many cable and device inputs). I have a bunch of video from Mini-DV tapes that I'd like to start transferring in from my '04 Sony Handycam (model DCR-HC40) and work with it in iMovie or Final Cut. For my previous computer (a Sony Vaio) I used a very expensive orange Firewire-like cable, but the inputs in the MacBook are different.
The camera has several small output holes -- 1) a sort of trapezoidal-shaped port marked with the USB symbol; 2) a square-U shaped port marked with "DV" and that "i"-logo; 3) a semicircular port marked A/V, which I use for sending video into a TV with RCA cables; and 4) a small, round, blue-sheathed hole marked LANC. I know I need to buy a special cable to do this, just not sure what I should ask for and whether I can get it online or have to go to the Mac store. Thanks very much for the help.

    Hi Shane
    Thank you for your response.
Darn.  I was afraid of that.  I actually did edit it with the existing footage before I contacted this forum, and of course, was having all sorts of issues.  Everything did look ok on the canvas, but rendering was taking forever, very sluggish in general.  Also, I was going crazy trying to export it so it would not look squashed or jerky.  FINALLY, I think I've got it.  In the export, I used qucktime conversion, H.264 compressor, 1280 x 720, ler5 preserve aspect ratio unchecked, used deinterlaced.  The end result was fine.
Could you explain the steps for me to convert this footage to DVCPRO HD1089 using compressor?  I'm not familiar with that process.
Also, next time, should I just keep my camera's video settings to 1280 x 720?  Would this work better with my version of final cut?
    Thanks,
    Oudlady

  • How to burn video in iTunes?

I just went out and bought 10 DVD+RW's so I could burn some TV shows and movies and watch them on my DVD Player on my TV. I CANNOT FIND THE OPTION TO BURN THEM!!! I burned a data DVD but itunes put it in .m4v format, and I cant watch that on my DVD player. How do I burn videos to my DVD?

If you are talking about tv shows and movies you bought from the iTunes store, the DRM prevents that. You can watch them on your iPod, in iTunes or Quicktime or hook your iPod up to your TV with appropriate cables and watch them on your TV that way (works quite well, actually).
If your talking about video content acquired elsewhere, I don't know the answer except that it would probably require other software. iTunes doesn't do that.
    Best,

  • How do I Ken Burns Video in FCP/FCE?

I've looked around the internet for days. Someone please help!
Is there anyway to Ken Burns VIDEO (not photos--I've seen a million tutorials on that)so there is a pan or zoom type effect.
    If anyone could help, THANKS!

Hmm.... I remember the Apple II CS where internally they were calling the CS for Carl Sagan. He got mad and was going to sue so internally they changed the name to Apple II BA for Butthead Astronomer. We better watch out cause Ken's gonna get mad and then we will all have to quit calling it the Ken Burns effect and change it to something like BP (already has a bad connotation) for Boring Producer Effect.
