Which reference monitor would you suggest?

I need to buy reference monitors for a home studio, which brand should I get?
Thanks

In that price range, I'd suggest you check out the following monitors. You might be better off trying to find something used so you can get a little more bang for your buck.
M-Audio BX5a Deluxe
Alesis M1 Active MkII
Alesis M1 Active 520

  • Which harddisk brand would you suggest?

I'm not sure if this question fits this forum, but I have no idea who else to ask. So I hope you can give me some advice.
I want to buy the new Mac Power TAURUS housing for 2 SATA harddisks.
    This one here:
    http://www.heyfile.com/photo/2007/20070319_MacPowerTaurus/11.jpg
Now I'm looking for two harddisks to build into it. But I cant decide which brand to buy. Maxtor, Hitachi, Samsung & Co.
Each disk should have between 200 and 500 GB.
Background: I'm sick of burning BackUp DVDs. I want to set the disk to Mirror-RAID and only use it for back-up. So the disks dont need realtime-video performance. Size & prize ist more important to me.
    Best regards,
    Jan / Germany

We just bought 6 Maxtor 1TB drives. No problems yet.
Apples uses Hitachi drives in their RAIDs. We have two almost 3 year old Xserve RAIDs that have been in constant use for this time period. Two drives have failed within the past 4 months, but that is still just 2 out of 28, and they are 3 years old. I wouldn't consider Hitachi drives unreliable based on that.
I haven't used Samsung drives. You don't mention Seagate, and that's good. They are the only drive manufacturer I would specifically recommend against. We have Seagate drives in our Windows servers and the darn things have been failing right and left, some of them while still under warranty. Personally, I don't think Seagate has made a decent drive since 1986.

  • I'm debating between a Macbook Air or a Macbook Pro which one would you suggest?

I'm debating between a Macbook Air (MC965LL/A) or a Macbook Pro (MD313LL/A) which one would you suggest?
I will be using this for college and taking it to class with me.  My biggest fear is that I may be too hard on the Air and damage it, but I like that it is lighter and looks cooler.  But which one do you believe is more logical and provides the best computer quality overall?

    This is an objective comparison,
Meanwhile, we start from the price of their basic models, considering of course that could get discounts as a student in the Education Store. Required about 100 € more to buy an Air with the same screen size of this Pro and already, in some cases, may be enough to make your own choice.
Assuming a score to score, we could say: Pro 1 - 0 Air
Until recently, the beloved laptop for school purposes was the white MacBook.Orphaned "bianchino", now out of the list for some time now Apple, the Mac that is most on the economic front is approaching the Air 11 "(900 € on the edu store). Air 13 "display offers a native that could be called HiRes, identical resolution to that of Pro 15" base:
    Air 11 "(16:9) 1366 x 768 = 1,049,088 pixels
    Pro 13 "(16:10 format) 1280 x 800 = 1,024,000 pixels
    Air 13 "(16:10 format) 1440 x 900 = 1,296,000 pixels
The comparison on the screens is not to be taken seriously. After all, is what we will see during every second of computer work.
And so the challenge back in a tie: Pro 1 - Air 1
For size and weight comparison is merciless. The Pro is a portable slim, well built and, after all, not too heavy. However, this aspect of the Air is unsurpassed. He created a new category of laptops is so small wonder. The weight is also almost halved with 1.3 kg against 2Kg. For those who are always on the go is a godsend for the university and also the difference in the shoulder is remarkable.
We update our score: Pro 1 - Air 2
The battery is offered in both cases with a duration of 7 hours. 2-Air Pro 3. Another aspect that is rather in favor of a tie on the graphics: Both models use the Intel HD Graphics 3000 with 384MB of DDR3 SDRAM condivisa.Pro 3 - Air 4.
In academia, it may not feel quite the need for a Firewire port, but the fact remains that the Air does not have it.
I guess that's the case to score another point: Pro 4 - 5 Air
I scored a little more than necessary to have a complete line of Air, but for the purposes of this comparison we are interested in the value obtained from the Pro 13 'Air base and 13 "base. Both processors are dual core and, as you can see, the little guy gets along very well though with a slower clock. There is also a crucial aspect to consider: these data refer to the computing power but do not take into account the incredible speed-bump-up by SSD. Translated into monetary terms means that if the Pro 13 "is marginally faster when the CPU is under stress (such as video encoding) Air 13" is significantly more responsive in every area. By now you will present the advantages of SSD, as we talk about it constantly, and be assured that we are talking about really obvious differences in the everyday. The advantages obtained clearly outweigh the disadvantage resulting from a delay of a few seconds more in exporting an iMovie or a few seconds to compress a full-bodied zip file (which then increased the write speed scale in part). To assign a score in this area I find then a little 'in difficulty. From the viewpoint of the CPU Pro 13 "is slightly faster but we are sure you can assign an advantage when then every single operation, to start since, requires up to 8 times (the value is clearly approximate) of the time ' Air 11 "? I have no doubt to say that overall performance on the front of the Pro 13 "basis, as configured, is beaten hands down Air 13" base.
I say then: Pro 4 - Air 6 (but wait ... is not over)
Do you know where the above discussion decade? The MacBook Pro is much more expandable: add just € 77 and takes a 60GB OCZ Agility SATA3 that mounts in an instant. At that point, the bill draws on the opposite reactivity with SSD and the difference of the processor, though not so obvious, back to bite. It is also possible to realize different combinations. We have spoken of a disk of only 60GB in effect, but in the Pro can also be used as an adapter to enter the optibay the HDD of 320GB in place of the original SuperDrive. In this way we obtain the speed of the solid disc for the operating system and applications and the increased capacity of a traditional hard drive for archiving. Also, the RAM, which base is 4GB on both, on the Pro can be easily increased to 8GB. To want to do things right we should say that the added cost rises well and lose the initial assumption for which we have assigned a point to Pro for the greater economy.Furthermore, the comparison is based, only the basic models, however, the counter remains a valuable expandability, both now and in the future: if after some time you should decide to improve the performance of your Mac, is with the Aircan only change SSD (mSATA but those are expensive), while the Pro will have more flexibility.
u point for the Pro: Pro 5 - 6 Air
With the 2011 version of the MacBook Air has resumed the backlit keyboard, but still (and will) not have an Ethernet port, Superdrive and the infrared receiver. The absence of the reader / writer is a point against him, this is indisputable
equal footing Pro 6 - Air 6. As Apple moves fast towards a future where this will no longer be necessary (see installation and operating system software via the web) can still be useful today. It must be said that with less than 30 € you take an external drive efficiently (review) but this still requires to carry around another "element". On a personal level each of us will be evaluated differently this absence, there are those who do not tolerate it and who has already got used to (in extreme cases supported by the Remote Disk feature) but it is still a lack of perspective in a single complete computer , at least at present.
For this reason we say: Pro 7 - 6 Air
pull the money (or better scores ) won the pro of a single point.
i hope it can help you ti choose

  • Which cards and card readers would you suggest?

    Hello!
I am very new to JavaCard development and I have just downloaded Java Card Development Kit.
To develop application and test it I think the development kit is enough. But when application is ready to be deployed which card and what card readers would you suggests that work reliable. Where to find them?
    Thank you very much!

    I suggest Sdi010 or scr331-DI from SCMmicro.com.

  • Which router would you suggest?

Which router would you suggest only for connecting 2 ISPs?
    thanx

This depends on how much traffic you have between, and what all interfaces you want to connect on .
like ATM or HSSI. For a medium end you can go for 3725 or 7200VXR is also a better choice that has CEF enabled .

  • WHATS WOULD YOU SUGGEST ME

I installed the update Mavericks operating system and after that I lost iphoto and imovie. Because an application that I had already gone and is being charged in the App Store. this is absurd. I can not pay for a program that already had! What would you suggest me!

This screenshot shows which previous versions of iPhoto are compatible with Mavericks.  It also indicates which versions qualify for a free upgrade to iPhoto 9.5.1 and which require a purchase:
Note 1:  every day more users are reporting problems with iPhoto 8.1.2 so I've included it in the non compatible category.
Note 2:  If your previous version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll need to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1  application on the library before opening it with iPhoto 9.5.1.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • Which topic categories would you like to subscribe to? NO WAY TO ANSWER THIS

In setting my options. I come to this question: "Which topic categories would you like to subscribe to?"
I also see a system-defined answer: "No topics defined".
And there is no drop-down list or text box, so so no visible way to set up some topics.
So - How do I define a topic or list of topics?

It's FireFox, when I set options for receving posts from the support site (like whether or not I want to receive a digest or individual e-mails). This particular aption is supposedly set be responding to the question "Which topic categories would you like to subscribe to?"

  • Which email service would you recommend and why? Google's or BC's?

Which email service would you recommend and why? Google's or BC's?

Easy Answer. Google. Hands down Google is better. BC has had issues in the past and while I think the issue is a little bit better I would choose Google. Do remember that Google Apps is $50 (USD) per year per user.
I have used Google Apps since they were still offering 50 free users and has worked great ever since. If there have been downtimes I have not noticed or has been so slight that is hasn't effected me in anyway. This is not the case with BC.
I am not trying to knock BC mail but it isn't the best.

Is the problem a global problem in the whole database, or are there just some queries that are slow ??
What db version are you using ??
What other applications are using this server ??
How many users are using this database ??
Tuning is very much dependent on the application/situation and database type.
I would like to suggest you start looking at AWR or Statspack.

  • Which macbook would you suggest?

I am looking to purchase a Macbook and not sure which one I would need.  I don't know anything about computers so its all mumbo jumbo to me.  I will be using this computer for personal use for school etc and also photo editing.  Help me!!
    Thanks

Any of the available models would be suitable for the tasks you outline. It icomes down to a matter of your subjective desisres.
Do you prize light and thin?... Go MacBook Air, provided the pricing is acceptable, and you don't mind no built-in optical drive and expandability.
Go MacBook Pro if it is more important to you to have upgradeability options later on, such as more memory and a user upgradable main drive. As well, it comes with a built-in optical drive. It is heavier, bigger (13" MBP).

  • One Accesspoint and two server...what would you suggest?

    Hello!
I'm developing an application which handles two wireless barcodereaders. There are two computers, and one of them is connected with the accesspoint.
The communication to and from the accesspoint is managed with an COM Component, which is used from Java.
The barcodescanners should interact with my application , for excample if the salesman scanns a customer-ticket, the customers data should be displayed on the screen. The barcodereaders can be identified with an uniqu id, so it's no problem to know where the data came from.
But my problem is...I'm getting all of the events to the computer which is connected with the accesspoint....
How do I tell the other computer to display the customers data which have been scanned with the other barcodereader?
How can I get the event handled on the other computer???
Sockets would be a possible way, but I think that might get very complex - than i thought i could call with RMI a fireEvent Method on the 2nd computer...!?!
What would you do to solve this problem?
I'd be happy for your help!
    Greetings Martin G.

Nobody out there who knows how to solve this problem?
My main problem is how to get events which occure on on computer handled on the other computer!?!
I'd be very happy for your help

  • Which PC monitors would work on a Sun Ultra2?

    I've got a Sun Ultra2 w/ Solaris9 installed.
No matter how I set up the video, the new monitor I just bought (MAG 772PF-S) wouldn't support it. All I get is black screen. Strange thing is, w/ ANY modes I set up the video, my roommate's Dell UltraScan 1000HS (OEMed by Sony, D1025HT) supports it and it works fine.
Here's some resolutions I've tried: (resolution, horizontal frequency/vertical frequency)
    a.1024x768, 62.0KHz/77Hz
    b.1152x900, 61.8KHz/66Hz
    c.1152x900, 71.9KHz/76Hz
The MAG can go up to 1280x1024 and the Dell(Sony) can go up to 1600 x 1200.
When I called MAG's tech support, the guy on the phone keeps telling me to set the frequency to 75Hz. What kind of monitor would support only 75Hz?? How come I just bought it yesterday and it doesn't work, and my roommate's Dell is 6 years old and it's working fine?
I think I have a better chance getting the right answer here than from MAG's tech support.
What PC monitors would work on the Sun Ultra2?
Is there something specific I need to look for, like some special feature on the monitor??

Nevermind, it appears that MAG monitors don't work on Sun machines for some reason. Tried Sony, ViewSonic, and SamSung, which all work well on the Ultra2. Guess it's a brand thing.
