Which sequence for a combination of 1080i and DV PAL footage?

I am editing a documentary where the majority of the footage is 1920 X 1080i (shot on a Sony EX1). There is some DV footage in there as well at 720 X 576 anamorphic.
If my sequence is set for the 1080i footage I have to scale up my DV material to the point where it looks unacceptable. Should I use a 720P sequence which would mean scaling my DV footage much less and shrink my 1080i footage for a 1280 x 720 frame? I assume there is no loss in quality in scaling down from 1080 to 720? My final output needs to be 1280 X 720 movie anyway so am I right in saying there is no point using a 1080 sequence on this occasion?
Also, downside of a 720 sequence with 1080 footage is that everything takes forever to render? Any ways round this?
Thanks!

Were it my project, I'd use a 1080i sequence and upscale the DV.
You are correct in stating your options. It's up to you which you choose.

  • Is there a way to set up browse sequences for project with multiple TOCs and conditionalized modules

I'm using RoboHelp 9 with WebHelp output.
I've got five outputs, one of which contains Help for common functions, while the other four contain Help for licensed modules. When a user opens the Help for a licensed module, the user sees the core Help and the licensed Help. In addition, files are conditionalized so that searching for unlicensed content from a licensed Help module brings up nothing.
I've been troubleshooting problems with the Previous Topic and Next Topic which, thanks to William, I learned are related to browse sequences. After trying assorted configurations, I've got a couple of questions:
Does RH support only a single browse sequence in a project, even when the project has multiple outputs & TOCs?
If RH supports only a single browse sequence, does that mean there is no way to create a unique browse sequence for each separate output?
If RH supports multiple browse sequences, what is the workflow?
I also maintain a 'master' TOC that contains all the modules, both common and unlicensed. What I've done for now is to autocreate a browse sequence based on the 'master TOC'. When I generate output for a licensed module, which is conditionalized, I only see the TOC for that module and, therefore, can only browse between books and subbooks in that module. I've also verified that topics that do not appear in the conditionalized module, such as for another licensed module, do not appear in the Search results list either.

You also asked about the functional differences between WebHelp and WebHelp Pro, so let me elaborate.
I'm aware of only two major differences (other than the extra benefits of feedback analytics reports and management of "Areas" with authentication in RoboHelp Server).
The behavior of Browse Sequences as explained above
The fact that Content Categories are not supported in WebHelp Pro for this latest version 9.
As for the Browse Sequences you are trying to provide for different modules (licensed, etc.): Multiple Browse Sequences are included in a single .BRS file. The sequences are defined in the XML within the single file.
As a workaround (for either WebHelp or WebHelp Pro) you could create a NGP Help.brs. which you have already created for one module; then backup and archive it. Then, create a modification for the different module before you generate again. The NGP Help.brs. will need to have the same name as your project so you will have to manage the desired .brs file into the project folder when you generate that version. All of your other choices (TOC, Index, Conditional Tags, etc.) would remain the same for the respective modules.
Finally, I note that you are apparently generating WebHelp Pro right now even though you are not publishing it to the RH Server? This is really not the best practice. You should generate plain WebHelp for a web server that does not have RH Server on it (even though you may be getting away with it). As for your concern about "breaking" something; each output is placed in a different !SSL! folder automatically when you generate, so you should be able to generate WebHelp without interferring with the WebHelp Pro output. Then, you can re-publish to the RH Server using WebHelp Pro whenever the server is ready.

  • Which iMac for use with Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom

Any opinions on which iMac is best for use with Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom. Not sure if the 2.7 i5 with 512 graphics card is Plenty of power or if upgrading to the 3.1 i5 or 3.4 i7 is a wiser choice given the price differences. Appreciate the help

So I was reading over your post, and even though this is older and has to do with CS5, I have some information for CS6 that will be relevant to your question now that it is time to upgade the software. In general Photoshop has always been more about RAM than Processing power, though that is important too. Until CS5 it could never quite take advantage of what multi-core processors really had to offer, and even the graphics card didn't really effect much of it outside of certain features and the 3D optio
Now that is no longer true and Adobe can effeciently use all aspects of the computer to give you much better performance.
So much so that I was able to buy a brand New ASUS with the following specs:
    Dual Core 2.2GHz Processors
8GB of RAM (4GB original to the machine)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit OS
    320GB HDD w/ 5400RPM
This machine not only runs photoshop CS6 and Launches in less than 5 Seconds... it can run Premier and After Effects as well, and this Laptop cost me less than $400 (on sale at Best Buy 2 Weeks Ago. You don't have to buy something this cheap, but isn't it great that you can and still run Master Collection effectively?
You can read my details on how to buy a Photoshop CS6 Laptop, what specs you need, comparison between Mac and PC and watch the video of my Photoshop Speed Test by reading this article:

  • What is the best way to setup premiere sequence for export when mixing 24fps and 23.976fps for final

What is the best way to setup a premiere sequence for export when mixing 24fps (CG) and 23.976fps (live action) for final output at 23.976 (vimeo and such).
Right now my sequence is at 24fps, and when I export to 23.976, my dialogues seem to shift.
Should I set my sequence at 23.976fps instead of 24fps?
Thanks in advance for the help, and sincere apologies if this is a noob question.
    David

That makes it easy.  Remove the CGs from the project.  Go to Edit>Preferences>Media... and set the Indeterminate Media Timebase to 23.976.  Then when you import the image sequence, PP will assign it the correct frame rate.
    Edit in a 23.976 sequence.

  • TS1398 I have recently updated my software to iOS 7. I have made an Apple ID which works for everything else but imessage and FaceTime. Why is this happening? What can I do to resolve this issue?

I have recently updated my ipad mini to iOS 7. My Apple ID works for everything apart from iMessage and FaceTime. When I sign in, it says check your network connectivity and try agin. I have tried several times. Why is this happening? What can I do to resolve this issue?

I am having this problem.  At first with the new iPhone 5, and then with the iPad 2.  I am not sure why this is happening.
My gut feeling is this is an iO6 issue and here's why -
The problem mainly occurs with apps.  I have about 150 apps, and when I plugged in the phone, iTunes went to sync all of them.  The process would hang up after about 20 - 30 apps were loaded onto the phone. I could tell where about the process hung up because the apps on the phone showed up as "waiting".
Then on the iPad 2 I plugged in to sync and saw there was a huge "Other" component in my storage.  It required me to restore the iPad 2 from backup.  With this restore the same issues occurred - putting the apps back on the iPad would hang up.  The videos on the iPad also got stuck - maybe after about 10 hours of videos transfered iTunes crashed.
My solution has been to soft reset the device, restart Windows, and continue the process until it's complete.  This is remarkably inefficient and time-intensive but everything works with patience.
I have been wondering if others have had these same problems.

  • Combining 1080i and 1080p HDV footage on single timeline, for SD output?

    Hi All
Help! I'm a cameraperson/director who was has just shot a largeish doccie project on a Sony HVR-V1E. My technical background is in stills, so I hope you'll forgive some ignorance here.
BACKGROUND: The vast majority of the footage was shot HDV using the 25fps prog scan mode on the camera. I really don't like interlace jaggies and I was advised that this was the obvious way of getting away from them, and made for very useable footage when output as standard def interlaced PAL. However, some footage for the project was also shot on a small Sony HDR-HC9 (PAL) camera. The HC9 has no progressive scan mode, i.e. this footage is 1080i50.
The primary broadcaster for this doccie requires delivery on Beta SP, standard def PAL. Because of the 16:9 aspect ratio of the HDV format, the film will be delivered letterboxed, black above and below.
THE MAIN QUESTION: We'll be editing in FCP 6.0 . My editor is more of an Avid person, and is concerned that without proper setup we'l end up with issues later on when we downsize to SD, especially because we'll be combining prog-scanned footage with interlace-scanned footage. We need to know whether to set the sequence presets as HDV 1080i50 or HDV 1080p25.
We're planning to edit as an HDV project and downscale to SD using Compressor. I know this downscaling is likely to take a long time, however we've been advised that editing in HDV is less intensive than going the ProRes route, and the quality of the Compressor downscale is better than that of the other 'within FCP' options.
I've been advised to set the sequence preset to i50, but I'm not sure if Compressor has a harder time resizing interlaced footage than progressive footage. Common sense tell me it'll be easier to resize a progressive frame and then split it into two interlaced fields without artifacts, than resizing and regenerating interlaced fields from 1080 down to PAL dimensions. However, if the sequence preset is p25, will FCP deal with the bits of i50 footage in the project OK?
Also, I've been told but cannot confirm that the Sony HVR-V1E camera scans progressively in 25fps prog scan mode, but encodes each progressively-scanned image as two interlaced fields on the tape, i.e. as 1080i50 images. Is this true? If so, it would surely mean that the sequence preset should be 1080i50 with progressive-scanned imagery emanating from this model of camera.
    I hope this makes sense!

    Hi,
FCP is open format timeline based, so it will transcode the footage according to the first clip on the timeline. so it will not be a problem for two different formats. i've used DVCAM, HDV formats together it has done for me nicely.
but check the result before proceding further ahed in edit in both preset format.
and using Compressor is not a good idea for broadcast I believe, it is ok if there is no other option is with you. It is better to do it with the hardware rather than software.
I use realtime Blackmagic hardware for down converting HD to SD with letterbox directly to tape.

  • Which Sequence for Mpeg4

I have a project due Monday that will be airing on the homepage of our website.  It's an mpeg4, which I have not yet imported into Premiere Pro CS6.  What is the best sequence preset to use when importing an mpeg4 into Premiere Pro CS6?  Thank you.

Thank you Ann, very helpful.  It's always better to get a full understanding and some background about a question.  Many times much more is learned this way, which is the case here.  Much appreciated!

  • Which Mac for personal yes is best and affordable?

Newcomer to Mac. I need assistance on what to purchase.  Don't need top of the line. Only yes for personal and monogram sewing programs.  Any suggestions?

First - have you checked to make certain that there are monogram sewing applications available for the Mac operating system? I've a friend who uses a Windows notebook to do the same, but I've never looked into Mac software for same - I would be sure such an animal exists before making the Mac plunge.
Just about any Mac will work for you - I would suggest getting the sole remaining 13" non-Retina MacBook Pro for your needs. You'll find it at the online Apple Store - on the left hand side of the web page. The nice thing about the non-Retina is that you can always upgrade the hard drive and the RAM should you wish. You simply cannot replace anything on the Retina Display models.
Good luck - I really hope that the software that you're seeking is available for Macs!

  • Combining 60 fps and 24 fps footage in one project

I've got a unique and confusing problem. I am trying to make a video that has a small amount of 60 fps played back at normal speed, soap opera effect and all, placed inside of a normal 23.976 fps project (full of primarily 23.976 fps footage).
I can hear you asking "why on Earth would you want to do such a thing?!" The video project is actually designed to be an explanation and demonstration of why and how higher frame rates look the way they do, a sort of explainer on how our eyes and brains process them, etc., so I need a bit of shiny soap opera stuff, just not the whole vid, because yuck.
The final destination for this project is YouTube, which now offers 60 fps uploads, so my final export would be at 60fps. If I shoot the rest of my stuff at 23.976, how can I combine the two so the normal stuff looks normal in a 60 fps export, and the 60 fps stiff looks shiny? If I drop 23.976 into a 60 fps project/export, won't it get choppy as hell in the final export?
I've got access to PP and AE CS6 and/or CC to get the job done.

  • Combining 4:3 and 16:9 footage

    Hi!
I have various footage that I want to put on a standard DVD.
The aspect ratio of some of this footage is 4:3 and some of it is in 16:9.
What would be the best way to get them all in 1 DVD without distorting any of it.
    Thanks.

As long as you create separate timelines for each of them, then there is no problem. That's of course assuming, they are flagged/ interpreted correctly so the program knows about their differences.

The only potential "gotcha" here is that on mixed mode discs (and Encore's abstraction Layer makes this painless for certain) when played back on an upscaling player and/or over HDMI, you may find the full frame footage gets stretched.
You really will be better off putting a 16:9 matte around every full frame asset in your NLE.
In Premiere, simply create a new 16:9 project, import your 4:3 footage andcheck it is correctly interpreted. Then export as a 16:9 film.

  • Alphanumeric sequence for RDA, PO and Receipts

    Hi,
My customer ask to have a specific numeric sequence for all the RDA, PO and Receipt created in Oracle
The customer use Iproc to generate the RDA and needs to have a dedicated alphanumberic sequence, The same for the PO generated from the RDA and the same for the Receipts generated after the PO processed.
I saw that in PO I can create manual alphanumeric number, but I need to generate automatically.
Is there any workaround or customization that I can do to solve the issue?
    Many thanks
    Vins

    Your question is not clear.
If you go to Purchasing > setup > organizations > purchasing options > numbering, you will see that you can setup the system to automatically generate the next number. A different sequence is used for RFQ, PO, Quote and Requisition.
Is that what you are looking for?

  • Controll9ng the sequence for printing checks

How can I change the sequence that the payment program is printing checks out?  Checks are currently being printed out in vendor number sequence.  I want the checks to be printed out in payee name sequence?
I know how to change the sequence for printing out the proposal and can do that.
Also, from what I can tell, there are two sort variants available for the payment media (RFFO*) which is associated with my payment medium program.  One is K1 (postal code) and the Other is K2 (payee name).  However, neither appears to be used.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  • Why do we need the combination of Apache and Tomcatt?

Both Apache and Tomcatt are web servers. It is possible to get the ob done with any of them. Then, why do we go for the combination of Apache and Tomcatt in most of the Applictions? What is the significance of doing it?

The Apache Web Server is a high-performance HTTP server, which is very good in serving static content (i.e., HTML pages, JPG files, etc.).
Apache Tomcat is a servlet container written in Java. It includes an HTTP server, but it isn't optimized as much as the Apache Web Server and probably doesn't have as many configuration options as the Apache Web Server.
Often people use Apache Web Server as the primary HTTP server, and run Tomcat on top of that. You can configure Apache so that it redirects requests for servlets and JSPs to Tomcat. Apache Web Server cannot run servlets and JSPs by itself.

  • Blank rows for every combination

I've got a dimension with this hierarchy of levels A | B | C where all of them are a detail of the previous one.
When I look into the dimension table I get:
    A1
    A2
    A1 B1
    A1 B2
    A1 B1 C1
    A1 B1 C2
    etc.
If, in Oracle Answers, I pick up attributes from B and C in the same report, then a record is showed for every combination of B and C with blank attributes for C.
    Table B
    B1
    B2
    Table C
    C1
    C2
    C3
The output in Oracle Answers is:
    B1 C1
    B1 Null
    B1 C2
    B1 Null
    B1 C3
    B1 Null
    and so on ...
Every row of table B is combined with a row of C and another one with all of its atributtes null.
    Any hint?

    Nihar
To get the first two rows from each group, you could do this:
Use the ROW_NUMBER() analytic function (see http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/functions137.htm#i86310)
Now, your question isn't clear what you mean by "last" two rows. Last in what order? Whatever it is, you can use the ORDER BY part of the ROW_NUMBER() function to specify the ordering, and reverse it using DESC - for example:
select acn, adate, cost, appl from (
        select acn, adate, cost, appl,
row_number() over (partition by acn order by adate desc) as rn
        from  acntab
    where rn <= 2
    order by acn, rnHTH
