Which sequence pre sets to use if importing Apple Pro Res files

Hello,
I just shot a music video with the BMCC using apple ProRes format and want to import them into Adobe Premiere Pro CS 5.5.
I am not sure which sequence pre sets to choose from when I am at the New Sequence box at the begining.
Anyone know's which pre sets to choose from?
Thank you.

Hi domingolamarre,
Welcome to the forum!
Here is what I would do:
Click "Cancel" and do not choose a Sequence Preset just yet.
Premiere Pro opens.
Import clips.
Drag one of the clips to the New Item button at the bottom of the Project panel.
A new sequence matching the settings of the clip is created.
Continue editing in that sequence.
Hope that helps.
Thanks,
Kevin

So I finally burned a DVD out of a Apple Pro Res file into iDVD in PAL format. My question now is how can I find out what the exact burn properties were so that I can apply the same burn properties to a project in Compressor 4?
Is it possible to see what iDVD did?

I don't know any way you can interrogate iDVD to reveal settings to the extent that you can in a Compressor project. What you could do is open up the show's VOB in MPEG STreamclip, go to File and Reveal Stream Information; that will at least give you some rudimentary info like average bit rate. Perhaps someone, with more iDVD experience, can chime in here.
The broader question is why use Compressor at all if your current workflow is doing the job to your satisfaction?
The value of Compressor is that it gives you control over the many parameters that affect size quality.  and playability. The Compressor presets can give you a starting point for DVD delivery, Web, etc. From those presets, people typically experiment by adjusting the parameters until they get the desired results for their specific show. It's a little bit science and a little bit art. After experimenting, you may be able to get slightly better quality for the project you've successfully burned in iDVD by using Compressor and something likeToast…or maybe not.
    Good luck.

  • AME CC 2014 (latest) when I import a file, the last pre-set I used is automatically applied to the file

And I can't seem to find a way to stop this behavior.
If I control click on the preset below the file in the Queue Pane and select remove, it deletes the preset and the file from the Queue.
    Any help appreciated.
    thanks

I seem to recall the previously, when I imported a file into AME, no preset was applied until I selected one. Is that incorrect?
Or is the correct workflow to select the preset, then import the file?
As it is now, I have one extra step if I happen to not want the preset that was applied on import, I need to delete it - after adding the preset I do want. Seems an odd way to work to me.

  • Can i use pro res files in iMovie even though i don't have Final Cut Pro?

    Hello,
I'm expecting some film footage to be delivered to me thats being delivered in a Pro Res format. Since my request to the company I've realised that it seems that I might not be able to import the Pro Res files into iMovie on my iMac if I don't have Final Cut Pro (FCP) installed. Is this correct? If so, is there a simple way I can import the format without having to go to the expense of buying FCP?
    Thanks
    Steven

    Hey Henmans,
Thanks for the question. Apple ProRes is a format developed for high-quality, high-performance editing in Final Cut Pro X. To gain access to this codec, you’ll want to purchase Final Cut Pro X or a licensed third-party product:
Apple ProRes Authorized Products - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/HT200321
Additionally, you may want to learn about unauthorized codec implementations:
In some instances, unauthorized codec implementations have been used in third-party software and hardware products. Using any unauthorized implementation (such as the FFmpeg and derivative implementations) may lead to decoding errors, performance degradation, incompatibility, and instability. If you're using or considering the purchase of a product that encodes or decodes ProRes but is not on the list below, please contact us at [email protected]

  • How to find out which sequence a certain column used?

you konw column C in table T is created by a sequence.
How to find out which sequence column C is using?

In the meantime I think it ought to becompulsory to
only assign sequence values in triggers.
Why? I can see no good reason for this. I think it's a good idea to have stuff like this
coded in only one placeI don't like your argument for compulsory using triggers for sequences for exactly the same reason as you, ie that I like to keep my code in one place. If I'm reading some pl/sql code which uses a sequence I like to see the fact that the sequence is used in the pl/sql code, rather than to check to see if theres a trigger on the table and then see which sequence that uses.
"naming conventions can work, provided they're enforced. Alas, like other standards, they can only be enforced by active policing".
    Thats what code reviews are.
" there is also the special case of one sequence populating more than one table...."
This is My Pet hate. I don't think there's ever a case where this is absolutely necessary. Again code reviews
Unfortunately I have to live with a system which does this.
and I appreciate we can't all have code reviews, etc.

  • What Is The Best Setting To Use To Import Music? Please Help.

    Hi, All
I have got an 80GB Apple Video iPod And I am still trying to figure out how to work it as I am new to using iPods.
What is the best setting to use to import CD Music and Music from the Internet to iTunes?? as I would like to listen to the highest quality there is on iTunes and my 80GB Apple Video iPod.
The settings are: ACC Encoder, AIFF Encoder, Apple Lossless Encoder, MP3 Encoder, WAV Encoder. If you have not got them to hand.
Many Thanks For Reading This And Replying To It, Much Appreciated!!
I Hope You All Have a VERY Merry New Year!!
    Kind Regards, Rocky Robin

There really is no BEST setting. The "best" setting is the one that sounds the best to you.
Having said that, you also asked what setting provides the highest quality audio. In that case, you need to use a lossless format, such as AIFF, WAV, or Apple Lossless. MP3 and AAC are both compressed formats, and will not provide as good of an audio quality as a lossless format.
My personal preference would be Apple Lossless, but any of the lossless formats will produce an almost identical quality to the CD track.
Keep in mind, the files will be quite large.

  • Which Pro Res File setting should I use when out putting HD to SD DVD?

Which is the best Apple Pro Res setting to use for HD to SD DVD?

Not sure what your source material is or which version of Final Cut you are using, but I will usually use the lower ProRes (not the lowest in the newest version) to export, for DV and HDV it isn't going to increase the quality but works fine to hold the quality of Color Corrections and other things. Of course some of it may vary.
Anyway I will export as a self contained movie so I do not have to worry about moving render files and to have something I can encode to other formats later on (such as the web) if needed. Take that into Compressor and encode m2v and AC3/Dolby Audio....

I have moved to uk from ireland and bought new iphone, set up using my existing Apple ID account and profile but won't let me buy install or update apps??
Can anyone advise me on what I need to do?
My existing account is linked to ireland as my bank account details are there, does this make a difference?
    Please help!

Until you get a UK bank account and credit card, buy and redeem UK iTunes gift cards for use in the iTunes and Mac App Stores. But you need to switch your region/country to the UK store in your account information, as you can't use UK iTunes gift cards in the Irish stores, the gift cards are country specific.

  • If I imported proxy media to edit in fcpx, can I export a hight resolution (apple pro res 422 (hq)) version of the project ?

If I imported proxy media to edit in fcpx, can I export a hight resolution (apple pro res 422 (hq)) version of the project ?

OK, let me re-answer here.  You HAVE to have either original or optimized media, you can not have Proxy only media, when using FCPX's inport options.  You will switch between which FCPX is using; in 10.1 via the Canvas menu option called "Media", or in 10.0.9 and earily via the Preference's "Playback" settings.
When set to Proxy, FCPX only references that medai, which is 1/4 resolution, and not full quality.  When set to Original Or Optimized, you'll get full resolution output, as FCPX is not referencing those files.
The only way to have Proxy only media is to convert it in Compressor and then import that.  And that would just be a huge mistake.

  • Apple Pro Res use in PRemiere for expanded color specturm

I heard that using Apple Pro Res in Premiere and AE is good for being able to use the expanded color specturm of the clips.  Is this true and and necessary.
    Thanks
    On a Mac, CS5.5 , os 10.6.8

    Perform the following test:
    1. Transcode your footage into ProRes (measure transcoding time) and import both of them into AE
    2. Set project to 32 bit colour space and tick Linearize Working Space checkbox
    3. Drop both source footage and the transcoded one into a composition and set upper layer blending mode to 'Difference' - you'll notice artifacts, which indicate there are some data shift (i.e. loss in quality) happened during transcodung (visually unnoticeable though; uncheck Linearize Working Space, and you'll get solid black screen)
    4. Temporarily disable eyeball for your transcoded footage layer, pull a key or/and apply some significant colour correction and/or a retiming effect onto your source footage. Measure the time for rendering RAM preview.
    5. Copy effects and paste them onto your transcoded footage, enable the layer eyeball - you'll notice artifacts, probably, worser than you had had before you started your grading work.
    6. Disable your source footage layer eyeball and measure how much does it take to render RAM preview for your graded transcoded footage. In my particular spec the difference between rendering RAM preview for graded AVCHD source footage and the transcoded one is about 16%.
    7. Render lossless (or about lossless) intermediates out of your graded source footage and the transcoded one in turn, measure the render time. In my particular spec the difference between a single render is about 25-30%. If I take into account time for transcoding, the difference decreases to about 16%. Bear in mind that influence of transcoding time diminishes if one needs more than a single render.
    8. Reimport your rendered intermediates into AE project and drop them into the same composition above existing layers. Set blending modes of both layers to 'Difference'.
    9. Enable eyeballs just for your rendered intermediates layers - you'll notice artifacts.
    10. Now compare like with like: enable eyeballs of your graded source footage and the intermediate rendered out of your graded source footage, then disable them and enable eyeballs of graded transcoded footage and the intermediate rendered out of it - you'll probably notice similar slite artifacts in both cases.
What does all the above mean?
    1. Transcoding a source footage doesn't give one any advantages in terms of quality for colour grading. Resulting quality is consistent in both cases, but some quality loss happen during transcoding.
    2. Transcoding yields savings on render time, which may be important in some workflows.

  • New problems importing Pro-res files

    Hi,
I am running CC14 on PC (HPz800 Windows 8) - and I have recently become unable to import Pro-res files into After Effects or Media Encoder. These files DO open in premiere
    I have tried the following:
    Restarted
    Cleared my cache
    Cleared all my appdata settings
    uninstalled and reinstalled latest Quicktime
reverted back to a previous version of After effects (this is where i noticed the problem first and I had recently got a new update)
copying the file to a different location on my drive and importing it from there
    Additionally:
I have had no problems with Pro-res in the past
The same file works fine on other computers in my office with the same versions of Ae/Encoder
The video file works in premiere
The video file plays fine in Quicktime
    I get the following errors:
In Ae - "this '.mov' is damaged or unsupported"
In media encoder - "could not be imported. could not read from source. please check settings and try again"
In the meantime I have re-encoded a proxy using premiere - however this is not an adequate long-term solution
Not sure what to try next, don't really want to re-image my whole computer (i already did this on a month or so ago)

  • How to import Apple Mail archive files in Outlook 2013?

I need to import Apple Mail archived files in Outlook 2013 on Windows, but every time I open the import wizard and reach the file selection step, I cannot select the archived file. It doesn't even show in the dialog box.
I don't know what the issue is. Is it the file size issue as the archive file is large (about 7 GB) or there is any other fault?

If both system are using the IMAP mail provider all you have to do is setup the connection to the mail server and all the emails and folders will be copied down to the windows computer. That is what IMAP is for. The mail stays on the server, and can be store
on the local computer also, and when you connect to the server with another device, computer, phone or pad, all the mail with folders gets copied to the other device.
But I think some of your mail was gotten using POP so it is not longer on the server.
Or you have emails in local folder only and they would be on the server. But you can create folder on the server in one mail program, or on the mail web interface and then copy those emails into those folder on the server byt copying them in one of the email
programs. Then when you log on with the other device all of them will be downloaded to the other device.
Other alternative:- You can find various solutions on having a google search
for your problem. Or you can have a look at the following link: Apple mail to Outlook Windows

  • Using Media Manager to convert movies to apple pro res

Using Media Manager to convert movies to apple pro res,  How can I convert my existing media files  from quicktime movies into apple pro res 422 ?
After they are converted will I have to re-point my fcp project to the converted files?
Thank You for taking time to answer these
    Carl

    Sorry, I am not following.
You said you have converted them to prores LT & are having this issue, or is it with H264 files in your edit?
How did you convert? using media manager, or compressor?
if you still are using the H264 media that would be the issue.
That is not an editing codec. it is a delivery codec.
The thing to have done would have been to convert to prores before you started editing.
    or did you do that?
