Which shortcut key to open a directory or file in Finder?
I found that when I highlight a directory or file and then click "Enter", it actually highlight the file name and then allow me to rename the file.
In XP, it is a normal way to open a directory and file. So I guess there should be a different way to do so in Mac.
Instead of double click the directory or file, is there any shortcut key in Mac to achieve so?

Depending on how you are viewing things in Finder, just
clicking on a directory will open it. I tend to use the "paned"
view and this is how it works.
If you are using a "list" view, then double clicking does the
job. Are you looking for a short-cut to use instead of the
double click? Command-O "opens" things but I must confess
I have never used it on a directory.

How to Open a Specific Folder in the Finder via Shortcut Key
I'm sure this has been covered elsewhere, so sorry for not finding it...
Is it possible to assign a shortcut key to open a specific folder with Automator or AppleScript? There are 4-5 commonly used folders buried 10-11 levels deep on a server and I'd love to have a shortcut key to open those particular folders in the Finder.
Could you give me some assistance?

Another option is to create aliases to those folders and store the aliases in a local folder which you can place on your Dock, the Finder window sidebar or toolbar. -

If I open too many Bookmarked pages into tabs my browser will hang and then sometimes crash or close unexpectedly.
If I bring up task manager or use the Alt + Tab I can navigate to the window and right-click and choose restore to allow me to see the window again. This needs to be done if I load more than 10 pages at once. Is there a way to choose to prevent loading of all opened tabs and then choose which tabs I'm currently working with to load the webpage? I would like to know how to use a shortcut key on my keyboard to select all tabs as ctrl + A does not work and then escape or another key tells to stop all pages from loading in each tab as with all the ads, gifs, videos, and internet spam keeps growing it is too much of a strain to have multiple webpages opened in tabs on the browser.

Since installing LTR 5.4, which I've now upgraded to 5.6, I've encountered repeated slowness and malfunctions in operations, especially when using the Compare View function and the Tab key to open and close the right and left side panels. Such problems never arose during two years of using LTR-4 and nothing else has changed on my computer. I have a pretty simple system with only a few plug-ins, which are usually not in operation. I have 12GB of RAM in my Windows 7 PC. I could illustrate these problems with screen shots if you would tell me how to submit screen shots. Otherwise I will try to describe the problems in words.
The problem is clearly cumulative, growing worse as usage time passes. Compare View feature gradually slows down and eventually seems to choke as my work session proceeds. If I Exit LTR and re-enter and start all over, things will work normally for maybe 30 minutes, but then the Compare View feature begins to become very slow to respond. In a recent example with my screen full of thumbnails in Library mode I highlighted two images to compare. LTR started to open the Compare View screen by first having the top row of thumbnails disappear to be replaced by the "SELECT" and "CANDIDATE" words in their spaces (but no images), but Compare View never succeeded in gaining control of the screen. After some seconds the top row of thumbnails reasserted its position and the Compare View windows disappeared. But LTR kept trying to bring them back. Again the top row of thumbnails would go away, Select and candidate would reappear, try again, and give up. This went on for at least 2-3 minutes before I tried to choose File and Exit, but even that did not initially want to respond. It doesn't like to accept other commands when it's trying to open Compare View. Finally it allowed me to exit.
To experiment I created a new catalog of 1100 images. After 30-40 minutes, the Compare View function began to operate very slowly. With left and right side panels visible and two thumbnails highlighted, hitting Compare View can take half a minute before the two mid-size images open in their respective SELECT and CANDIDATE windows. When the side panels are open and two images are in the Select/Candidate spaces, hitting the Tab button to close the side panels produces a very delayed response--25-30 seconds to close them, a few more seconds to enlarge the two images to full size. To reverse the process (i.e., to recall the two side panels), hitting Tab would make the two sides of the screen go black for up to a minute, with no words visible. Eventually the info fields in the panels would open up.
I also created a new user account and imported a folder of 160 images. After half an hour Compare View began mis-placing data. (I have a screen shot to show this.) CANDIDATE appears on the left side of SELECT, whereas it should be on the right. The accompanying camera exposure data appears almost entirely to the left of the mid-screen dividing line. Although the Candidate and Select headings were transposed, the image exposure data was not, but the data for the image on the right was almost entirely to the left of the line dividing the screen in two.
Gurus in The Lightroom Forum have examined Task Manager data showing Processes running and Performance indicators and they see nothing wrong. I could also send screen shots of this data.
At this point, the only way I can process my images is to work 30-40 minutes and then shut down everything, exit, and re-start LTR. This is not normal. I hope you can find the cause, and then the solution. If you would like to see my screen shots, tell me how to submit them.

This happens both in Windows XP and Windows 7. Firefox is the only application that does not allow this consistently (this works with MS-Word, Google Chrome, Notepad etc.).
Yes, but {Ctrl + N} is useful only when you are already in Firefox. I meant quickly launching Firefox while using another application via a user-assigned shortcut key. For example, I am writing a text in MS-Word and I want to run a quick Wikipedia search; now, if Firefox is already running in the background, my shortcut for Firefox (e.g Ctrl + Alt + 9) won't do anything - it will only launch Firefox, if it is the first Firefox window to be opened. Thanks anyway though!

When my most front window is a safari one and I use the shortcut key "Command N", it opens a new finder window and a new safari window at the same time. Why does it happen?

Open the General tab of the Safari preferences and correct the home page; the default page is this one. If it has become set to a folder on an FTP server or a local drive, that request will be sent to the Finder. (28252)

Adobe Captivate 6 and Shortcut Keys
I have designed a course in Adobe Captivate 6 and want to include a Shortcut key such as CTRL+O which the user hits to perform an action like they do in a production system they are being trained on for their job (non Adobe related).
When I set up a slidelet and the associated Action via a Shortcut to jump to a slide further down in the presentation this works in preview fine, but when I upload it to the LMS and test it there, it performs an Open function instead because this is being run in an Internet Brower.
Does anyone know of anyway for the Captivate CTRL+O to supercede the Internet Explorer CTRL+O?
Please let me know either way.

Trying to create course content that replicates keystroke shortcut behaviour of applications that use Function keys or Control keys is doomed to failure.
I would recommend you find another way to display the required keystrokes (e.g. buttons or images on screen) and get your users to click with their mouse to indicate the correct keys. -
Shortcut keys not working on PS CS6
HI, i have been having a problem with shortcut keys on Photoshop CS6 on Mac retina display.
Everything works fine but often, randomnly, the keyboard shortcut keys don't work. I would have to quit PS and reset the PS by pressing shift+option+command key when opening the program.

You can use an input field to enter and edit text. It consists of a field name and the field data.
Use
When the input field has the focus [External], you can enter text and numerical data using the keyboard.
Access
Sequential element navigation works for input fields, which means you can move the focus [External] forwards to an input field using [Tab] or backwards using [Shift]+[Tab]. You may need to press [F2] to start the text editing process. If an underlying function exists, you can start it by pressing [F2] this corresponds to a double click with the left mouse button.
Help Functions
When the input field has the focus [External], you can call up the help documentation for this field by choosing [F1]. If the input field has a tool tip, you can call it up by choosing [Ctrl][q]. You can open the context menu of the focused input field by choosing the [ContextMenu] key or [Shift][F10]. In more complex applications, the F4 help opens up a dialog box and provides selection options. If there is an F4 help, this is indicated by a small icon to the right

Exit
To finish editing, choose [Tab] or [Enter] to leave the input field and accept the changes made. To finish editing and undo the changes made, choose [Escape].

Message ShortCut Key not working properly
Hellow every one, guys i am encountrying a problem regarding my nokia e5 , i've just bought it recently and still left with 8 months warranty. The problem i am facing is, the message shortcut key which is on the keypad of this Phone, is not working properly. When i do long press to open new text msg, it sometimes doesnt opens any thing and sometimes even open messaging and then close it. At a certain angle i have to apply a little more force in order to operate it properly. Please help me wheather its a hardware problem or any sort of dust particles have emerged inside the keypad resulting in loose contact of the button and the motherboard.

I have been unsuccessful uninstalling mywebsearch. Mozilla Firefox shortcut key
takes me to mywebsearch. mywebsearch was apparently installed on 5/23/2010
when i thought i was accessing a cool screensaver website. I WANT MY FIREFOX
