Which should I upgrade to?

I recently bought a track pad for my iMac not realizing I need to upgrade to 10.6 Snow Leopard to use it.  Now the new Lion is coming out for the same price.  Should I wait and upgrade to Lion or upgrade to 10.6?  What is your opinions?

It is best to wait till there is a 10.9.1 update as new OS X systems always cause problems to some installations. Better not to risk losing data unless you have a bootable clone that enables you to revert to the original (pre upgrade) state. Haste makes waste.

You are on Windows 2000, you do not have a "Firefox" button, and should consider yourself to be fortunate in that you still have menus and don't have to do anything to get the menus back instead of the "Firefox" button. (The same applies to Windows XP users).
Use the "File" menu to get to Import. You are not on Windows 7 or Vista, and don't have to put up with the nonsense added for Aero.
If you want the "Firefox" button you can get it with View -> toolbars -> (uncheck) Menu Bar. The menu bar and the "Firefox" button were supposed to be mutually exclusive (which is impossible in some cases without being incompatible).
Once you are using the "Firefox" button ...
Use the "Alt" key to view the menu bar (temporarily) containing File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. On Windows 7 and Vista, the menu bar was hidden by default in Firefox 4 and above. These menu items are more or less available under the "Firefox" button which has the most used of the built-in Firefox menu items available in a different format.
To get back to having menus again. "Firefox" button -> Options (second column) -> (check) Menu Bar
You can make '''Firefox 7.0.1''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6)]. • Should I upgrade my 2008 iMac from 10.6 to 10.7 or 10.8?

I'm wondering (a) should I upgrade at all and what to and (b) if I do can I go back to 10.6 somehow?
    (a) I would like to have increased connectivity between my iMac and iOS devices via iCloud, and I like the new Mail app in Lion/ML. Anyone got experience with older iMacs running Lion or ML?  How well do they cope?  Any advantages or disadvantages of note?
If a lot of people find that performance is really bad on similar iMacs the following is not relevant. (I have increased RAM to 4GB (max) and have a 320 GB HDD)
I was thinking of some ways to upgrade that might allow me to just see how the iMac handles a new OS and still allow me to go back to SL if it slows down too much.
    1. Install Lion on a partition.  If it works well install Lion onto whole system, if not delete partition.
    2. Install Lion on whole system and if slow go back to 10.6 via a Time Machine backup (doubt that would work).
    3. Install Lion on whole system and if slow go back to 10.6  via a backup in other software (CCC for example – which I don't have yet – might work?).

I am trying to get my system current.  I am now running Mac OS X, version 10.6.8 (I believe this is "Snow Leopard").  What should I upgrade to?

The current system is OS X 10.8 which is downloadable from the App store, which you can upgrade to directly if your system meets the system requirements.  Note that starting with OS X 10.7, PowerPC-based programs will no longer run. So, for example, people with Office 2004 got surprised when they upgraded and found that the older Office programs would no longer run. Newer Office programs are OK.

  • Should We Upgrade To The 9.2.0.5 Patchset

    Hi,
I notice that the 9.2.0.5 patchset is now available on Metalink, using patch number 3501955. It comes with an upgraded version of Oracle OLAP, which brings it up to 9.2.0.5
Should we upgrade to this new version? If we do, will the AWM and the OWB OLAP Bridge still work with it? Does the 9.2.0.5 version include the one-off upgrades in the 9.2.0.4.1 patchset? Are there any new features in this new version to be aware of?
AFAIK, the main significance of the 9.2.0.5 patchset from an OLAP point of view is that it's a prerequisite for Enterprise Planning & Budgeting (as detailed in this presentation http://www.oracleuser.co.uk/reportingtools/Presentations/mslight180304-1.zip by Marianne Slight) but I'd be curious to know if there are any other new features, or issues to be aware of.
    regards
    Mark

In general, I would recommend OLAP users to upgrade to the 9.2.0.5.0 patch set. Yes, it contains the OLAP 9.2.0.4.1 one-offs. This cumulative RDBMS patch set contains OLAP bug and performance fixes, in addition, to the general RDBMS fixes. As for new OLAP features, none to report. No new APIs therefore the tools running against 9.2.0.5.0 should work fine. However, I did enter a bug against AWM 9.2.0.4.1D with OLAP 9.2.0.5.0. The Aggregation Wizard did not work against an OLAP 9.2.0.5.0 analytic workspace when it did work with the OLAP 9.2.0.4.1 version.

  • Should I upgrade to 3GHz or upgrade to X1900 XT instead

Should I upgrade to 3GHz or upgrade to X1900 XT instead??
Which of these would give me more bang for the money I spent? Would the better graphics card help me when Leopard is here? or is the extra CPU better?
    Your opinions are needed!
    Thanks

I think it's exactly 10%. Everything in the system
runs as a multiple of 133Mhz. The 3Ghz CPUs aren't
    really 3Ghz but 2.93Ghz (i.e. 22*133Mhz versus
    20*133Mhz for the 2.66Ghz CPUs).
    This is not true.
Intel's information on their Website states that they are indeed 3 GHZ, actually using an 8x multiplier:
The FSB is actuallty 333MHz FSB is quad pumped (for 1333 MHz total per chip), not 133 MHz.
Therefore the actual speed of the chip is 2.997 GHz (effectively 3GHz) using a 9X multiplier.
The 2.66 is an 8 multiplier (2.664 GHz).
You may be confusing the Xeon 5100 series with it's 1333 MHz bus with the Core 2 Duo chip. They are actually the same chip with two important exceptions:
    1) The Xeon 5100 series allows for multiple processors (e.g. 2 dual core chips)... Core 2 Duo only allows for one chip.
    2) The Xeon 5100 series has a choice of 1066 or 1333 MHz FSB (1333 only in the 2.66 and 3.0 models), whereas the Core 2 Duo chips are only up to a 1066 MHz FSB for now (266 MHz quad pumped).
Thus the top line Core 2 Extreme only runs at 2.93 GHz, which on that chip is an 11X multiplier.
The extra FSB speed of the 5100 gives a slight bandwidth and speed increase over the Core 2 all other things being equal.

From what I can see, unless you're doing things with old versions of Xcode on a Mac (in which case, the solution seems to be to upgrade to the latest version), this seems to e an iTunes issue.
Accepting that it works fine with another iPad, I suggest trying the following:
    1. Restart the non-working iPad
    2. If that doesn't work, reinstall iTunes. If you're on a Windows PC, I suggest using Control Panel to uninstall all the Apple apps, restarting the PC, and doing a fresh install. If you're using a Mac, a repair permissions might help too.
iTunes 10.3 is now available, and that may make a difference.

  • Do I go with the MacBook pro or the MacBook air? I'm going into 8th grade and were required to have labtop. I Also edit videos for my YouTube chanel. Which should I get 13 inch model.

MacBook Air: thin, light, fast SSD storage. Cons: not upgradable, expensive.
MacBook Pro: cheaper, upgradable, better graphics card, more storage and RAM for the buck.  Cons: not as light
you'll get more for the money with the MacBook Pro. the Air is better as a second computer for people.

  • What version of Visual Studio should I upgrade to?

I am using Visual Studio 10 Professional in my Company. There are only two people using it but our WPF application is vast and we also have WCF services. The OS is Windows Server 2008 R2.
What version of Visual Studio should I upgrade to?
    Thanks.

Visual studio 2013 pro would mean upgrading your solution but is the current version.
    2015 is on the way.
Check the os requirements if you think you should maybe hang on for that.
I think 2015 ctp is still available to trial.

  • Should i upgrade from photoshop cs3 extended to photoshop cs6 non extended

hi im just wondering should i upgrade from photoshop cs3 extended to photoshop cs6 NON extended...... would i loose options from my extended version?
also i dont use photoshop cs3 that much, does anyone think its worth me upgrading?
    thanks
    lee

    Good day!
I think I read that with 2013 the upgrade path would be shortened, so you are probably not eligible for upgrading anymore.
Apart from that the benefit of purchasing the current version of Photoshop naturally depends on what you are doing with Photoshop (both in terms of which features you use and how much you use the application overall).
Smart Objects have been improved quite a bit, Puppet Warp is an interesting feature, Configurator allows for the easy creation of custom Panels that can combine Tools, Commands, Actions etc.,  …
But to judge the programm yourself you could just install the trial – mind you, the trial is Photoshop Extended, so you may want to consult the Reference on which features you would not get with Potoshop Standard.
You might also want to look into Cloud Licensing – or at least »Adobe« wants you to …

  • Guys ... I have a 2008 MacPro running the current Yosemite.  I also have installed the sound amp called "BOOM!"  I have the Sound set to Line Out which should have the computer boot up to BOOM! Instead, it boots up to the Internal speaker. What's up?

    Hi Folks ...
I have a 2008 MacPro running the current Yosemite. I have installed the recommended upgraded video card, but the sound is as it was new. I also have installed the sound amp/graphic equalizer called "BOOM!"  I have the Sound set to Line Out which should have the computer boot up automatically to BOOM!  and thus to the external speakers.  Instead, it boots up to the Internal speaker.  According to the folks at "BOOM!", this is happening to others who have similar Macs.  They can't find any explanation within BOOM!, so I am turning to you all.  Any ideas?

    Hi Kappy ...
Sorry, I guess I didn't state the problem very well.
I don't want the computer to boot up to the internal speaker.  I want it to boot up to the external speakers.  However, even though System Preferences is set on Line Out, when the computer boots up or reboots, it erroneously goes to internal speaker.  So, every time I boot up, I have been going to System Preference/Sound and clicking on Line Out.  From that point on, everything is OK until the next boot up.  It is a small annoyance, but annoying all the less. The simple explanation seems to be that when the computer is shut down, it does not hold the setting for Line Out and resets itself to Internal Speaker.  How do I change that behavior and get it to go to Line Out whenever it boots up?

  • Should i upgrade to Tiger?

i have a 1.25ghz eMac g4 w/ 512 RAM. ..should i upgrade from 10.3.9? or do you think it will be slow on this machine?

    Hi jonathan berry2;
First of all let me say that the upgrade from Panther to Tiger improved the performance on my old G4 so much I was able to delay the hardware upgrade until the PowerMac Quad came out six months later.
I don't generally recommend hold off on either operating system or hardware upgrades but in this case since Leopard is so close I would suggest waiting. If you wait you can see if your system can run Leopard which I suspect it will be able to then you can get Leopard. If not, you can get Tiger probably at a discount.
