Which software to test the line? BERT or any advice?

hi mates
need some advices about the best test method for below system:
I have a physical network line between two computers which consists of fiber optic cable, media converters and utp cables. Nontheless end of the lines are regular RJ45 connectors. Ican ping the other PC through this line.
but I want to test this line with a software running on PC ( Bit Error Tester or something similar software I can run on PCs and see if the line works fine)
I dont want to test the line with cable tester devices. Is there a software you can recommend me for test purposes?

I think that VLC Media Player will play avi files.

If you purchased the computer before 2010, your computer hasn't got Thunderbolt, so you can't use it

I have Satelite Laptop, it will not boot into Windows, I think the Hard drive may be faulty.
How do I test the hard drive in DOS?

Update: I tried the "Toshiba Recovery Wizard" after everything else either fizzled out or hung up. After going all the way thru the recovery process (up to 100%), I finally got an error message.....it didn't work. And now, when I fire up the computer, I don't even get to that menu with the recovery options....the only thing I can boot into is the screens with the various ways to run your OS (in "safe mode", "safe mode with networking", etc).
I'm not a techie, but I'm guessing at this point, the part of my hard drive that got damaged in the fall was, at the very least, the partition with the recovery data. Couple that with the fact that this cheapo Toshiba laptop didn't even come with recovery disk (or ANY kind of disk, even basic installation software!), I'm screwed: I don't see any way to get a workable computer now without some kind of disk to boot from. So NOW my concern is more about spending the $$ for a new OS and THEN finding out the hard drive has other problems too...is broken in some other way to boot.
How to check this? As I said, I did run "chkdsk" back when I could get into the recovery menu and run the fix-it programs. It didn't note any problems. Thinking of taking this opportunity to upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista (which I never liked), but I have to know that the computer is otherwise ok....how to be sure?

Fusion Drive: How do I manage which software is on the Flash portion?

Any idea how I can see which software Mountain Lion is placing on the Solid State portion of my Fusion drive? Can I manaually manage it, as they suggested?
From the link below, it is suggested that once I add a partition to my Fusion drive, the "plus" symbol in Disk Utility to add additional partitions will be grayed out. You cannot partition the Flash storage. When I go to my (Apple configured) drive in Disk Utility, there is NO plus sign next to my drive. I haven't attempted any partitions. Is it possible that my drive was not formatted properly from the factory?

You don't have any direct control over the allocation of data between the physical drives. It's automatic, based on your usage pattern. If you're not satisfied with that, Fusion Drive isn't right for you.

During a standard iTunes upgrade to the latest version (11.1.4 for Windows Vista), the installation failed with the following error message: Could not open key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Apple Inc.\Internet Services. Does anyone have any advice as to how I can fix this and reinstall iTunes? When I try to open iTunes I get the following message: iTunes.exe. This application has failed to start because MSCVR80.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. When I try to run the installer I get the above error so I'm going round in circles!

Solved: I had somehow lost permission to access the HKEY above (or rather, its parent key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Apple Inc.) so I went to the registry editor and checked the 'Full Control' box for the key and the installer now works.

Reconciling 2 versions of the same Catalog. Any advice?

I generally store the catalogs I use a lot on one drive, and those I use infrequently on another drive. Recently I found that one of the catalogs was on both drives, and that I had used it at least once on both drives. Both catalogs now show the little badge 'Changed by external program' on all photos.
Does anyone have any advice on how to reconcile the differences? For a start, how to tell which one I have used most frequently since the 'split' occured. But also a way to find out what I have been doing on one or the other, or a way to merge them. Frankly I think its possible that I only used one of the versions once (to make a collection and do some keywording). But really I have no idea, as I only discovered the problem after I had them both open in the same day. Even manually transferring that one collection and keywording session would be time consuming and tedious, and there might be more.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I usually am very strict about my catalogs, but somehow this one slipped through the cracks.

I don't think there are any ways to reconcile these catalogs other than tedious hard work.
One thing you might try is to import one catalog into another, and to have the import action create virtual copies of duplicate photos with different metadata, so the photos wind up next to one another in the combined catalog and the comparison os somewhat easier. Use File->Import from Catalog and check Preserve Old Settings As A Virtual Copy option. Make sure you make a backup of both catalogs before you do this.
Another suggestion is to use one catalog in the future, and then these types of problems can't happen.

I bought my dad a new ipod nano and a jbl wireless speaker from the same apple store. Everything worked perfectly with the bluetooth connectivity the first day. Then my dad accidentally hit the "forget this device" button when he was trying to turn the bluetooth off. Now the nano either does not recognize the device or it will recognize the device but not connect. I would appreciate any advice.
